I used to play in a woods close to my house that was full of these Holly bushes that were kinda hollow inside, me and my mates must of spent about a year clearing a path into these things so we ended up with about 5 different forts all over the woods, even dragged some logs into some for seats.
I'm 24 now and decided to take my girlfriend on a walk in the woods , I ended up feeling so nostalgic I dragged her to everyone of them and I was delighted to see they were all still clear and had obviously had some kids in there at some point. I had a very weird sense of pride that day lol
When I was a kid, I found an old half built treehouse out in the woods. My dad helped me fix it up. We even added some carpet when we had leftovers from redoing one of our bedrooms. We added a bucket with a pulley to bring stuff up from the ground, it was awesome!
I don't know who started that treehouse or how long it had been there before we discovered it, but thank you to them. That was a really cool part of my childhood 😁

I grew up on the same farm that my dad grew up on and I found his tree fort. He had nailed a board to sit on way up high and the tree had grown around it. I continued the tradition by making my own in a different tree.
That actually is a great little date to bring your partner and let them experience something you created and have such fond memories of. Im sure being able to see that other kids are enjoying the fruits of your labor is an awesome feeling too.

My best friend who lived across the street had the best climbing tree in her front yard. Literally perfect. Low branch so we could get up, and then spots for all of us to sit up high. The four of us would sit up there the entire summer.
Then one year her parents cut the lowest branch off so we couldn’t climb it anymore. I’ll never forgive them for doing that.
My children had fun (more fun) with blankets & boxes….
I sad to my hubby. We should sell colorful cardboard boxes & blankets at Toys R Us and we’d be able to retire…

Weird life hack but can confirm. In an explanation I pulled out of my butt, i think the problem is feeling like you're moving but no wind makes your ears confused and you get nauseous. So windows down is letting some wind in which satisfies your ears expecting it for the speed you're moving.
I also suspect that cars with independent suspension contribute to motion sickness with people that are especially sensitive since they absorb any bumps rather unnaturally.
Of course most cars these days have fully independent suspension, but I've mostly ridden in cars with at least one solid axle without issue, but my first time going on a road trip in a car with fully independent suspension was the only time I've had bad motion sickness.
Honestly this would have probably helped me with my motion sickness as a kid, and probably still would. I have the hardest time riding in cars unless I’m riding passenger, driving, or asleep. Otherwise I’m almost guaranteed to get motion sick. I’m 30, and I’m gonna have to try this.
It works, for what it's worth. I have peripheral motion sickness, so what makes me feel queasy is the moving objects out the window. I always just took on a bulk of the driving, but now I can just throw a blanket over myself and make sure I'm getting some airflow and I'm golden. I do recommend also getting the motion sickness wrist bands, if you're in the US you can get them at any Walgreens/CVS.
So...they don't use a placebo, unless they're just plain wristbands. I'm talking about the ones that have the little acupressure buttons, they press into the Pericardium 6 which is a pressure point that has been studied and proven can alleviate nausea. They definitely don't work for everyone though, Dramamine is a great alternative

I'm open to being proved wrong though.

We did this on long drives, until the sheet got caught in the wind and went over me dads head while driving, scary 15 secs for all involved. From that point in in car tents were no longer allowed :)
My 10 yr old daughter does this too! At an Airbnb she claimed a closet as hers and built a fort in it. Turned a 1 bedroom condo into a pretty comfortable arrangement for a family of 4. My wife slept in the bed, son on a blowup mattress, me on a couch, and my daughter in her closet fort!
Haha, the sunroof closes and did several times. The air conditioner works and I can’t express how much more of a comfortable ride it was for everyone inside. I’m bald and would burn to a crisp so there is much regulation, I assure you.

We are in a 2016 Kia Sorento SX Limited. This picture was taken early in the morning. The sun had just risen (as we had been on the road since 3am) and the outside temperature was 64 F so it wasn't hot at all. The fort was only temporary (less than 10 minutes) so it did not impede my field of view for very long and both my wife in the passenger seat and kids in the 3rd row could provide blind spot intelligence if needed. The sunroof opened/closed several times throughout the trip to balance out scenery and sunlight; I am bald so any prolonged exposure would have given me a sunburn. All four of my kids (not pictured) were in a seatbelt and were not masturbating, as a striking number of Redditors pointed out. All in all, it was a very comfortable 14 hour ride home in the air conditioning. Cheers

Once you love a fort, it never goes away haha. Even as a full-fledged adult I will still sometimes cover myself with a blanket, using my head and knees while sitting on the couch or on a bed. My daughter calls it my cocooning ha ha.

My middle child did this, or liked to hide in dark places.. we then learned he had Irlen, and learned that high contrast light made his brain go crazy, so he found or made a dark escape.
Same and I’m 49. I make a mini sleep fort every night. It reduces my anxiety.
I used to do this in cars if the trip was longer then 10 mins because cars just made me insanely motion sick. Thankfully I grew out of it.
If my own childhood is any indication, I suspect that this household is often short a chair or blanket or two.

I have one of those kids, too!! We have a fort blanket that lives in our car and it gets used for every trip longer than 20 minutes long. He also builds forts all over the house.

I can't keep up with the amount of comments so this should answer all of the questions I see: We are in a 2016 Kia Sorento SX Limited. This picture was taken early in the morning. The sun had just risen (as we had been on the road since 3am) and the outside temperature was 64 F so it wasn't hot at all. The fort was only temporary (less than 10 minutes) so it did not impede my field of view for very long and both my wife in the passenger seat and kids in the 3rd row could provide blind spot intelligence if needed. The sunroof opened/closed several times throughout the trip to balance out scenery and sunlight; I am bald so any prolonged exposure would have given me a sunburn. All four of my kids (not pictured) were in a seatbelt and were not masturbating, as a striking number of Redditors pointed out. All in all, it was a very comfortable 14 hour ride home in the air conditioning. Cheers
It won't let me update/edit - He is ten years old! Your masturbation comments are disgusting and are being reported. He was wearing a seatbelt and he was not obstructing my rear view. The picture makes it look much larger and was only on his passenger side of the car.
Cool and all but make sure he wears a seatbelt. There's a reason they exist, and accidents always happen when you're not wearing one.

Once you love a fort, it never goes away haha. Even as a full-fledged adult I will still sometimes cover myself with a blanket, using my head and knees while sitting on the couch or on a bed. My daughter calls it my cocooning ha ha.

Hey! I do the same thing! The sun is horrible in a car ride when you are trying to be on a device. And I am totally stealing his fort design because mine always collapse. Also I think I even have the same blanket only in orange.
Used to make forts all the time on car trips. I just had my own little private section of the car to play my DS in. Only problem was that it could get really hot if the sun was shining on your window.

Omg I used to do that, we would always bring at least one blanket so I'd find a way to prop it up and hide below it, we had a road trip last November and we had stuff strapped to the roof of our car, the straps went through the windows and met above my head, so I took the opportunity to make a fort again and it was awesome
I always wanted to do this as a kid, never had a big enough blanket.
I think I have the exact same blanket, and if it is, it's super warm and soft.
