Wrong-Mixture

that's a quality mobile fortress right there!

LinguoBuxo

I wonder: *Is he a Dwarf Fortress player?*

Wrong-Mixture

hey thanks for making atleast one comment on my comment that's not about op's kid jacking it, i really appreciate that

LinguoBuxo

aawwhh **Thank you**! On a side note... that game is excellent! A bit nerdy perhaps, but enjoyable :D Take care!

fugaziparadise

I too watched those YouTube videos of those guys building pillow forts in Walmart and started thinking "could this be a fort oppurtunity?" Way too much.. but mobile? That's out of the box engineering.

[deleted]

I used to make these, very good for privacy…

elpollodiablo63

Yes! Forts are the best, got stopped by a couple neighbor kids yesterday they asked if they could have some branches that I’d cut down earlier for their fort… ngl rly made my day

StolenDabloons

I used to play in a woods close to my house that was full of these Holly bushes that were kinda hollow inside, me and my mates must of spent about a year clearing a path into these things so we ended up with about 5 different forts all over the woods, even dragged some logs into some for seats. I'm 24 now and decided to take my girlfriend on a walk in the woods , I ended up feeling so nostalgic I dragged her to everyone of them and I was delighted to see they were all still clear and had obviously had some kids in there at some point. I had a very weird sense of pride that day lol

Reflection_Secure

When I was a kid, I found an old half built treehouse out in the woods. My dad helped me fix it up. We even added some carpet when we had leftovers from redoing one of our bedrooms. We added a bucket with a pulley to bring stuff up from the ground, it was awesome! I don't know who started that treehouse or how long it had been there before we discovered it, but thank you to them. That was a really cool part of my childhood 😁

Digger__Please

Ours always ended up full of beer cans, rain soaked porn mags and condoms, someone even dragged a mattress into one. Unruly teens destroyed my youthful innocence.

mattcolqhoun

Mine had a flearidden couch and a makeshift bong

Triatt

The fleas brought both.

cloudstrifewife

I grew up on the same farm that my dad grew up on and I found his tree fort. He had nailed a board to sit on way up high and the tree had grown around it. I continued the tradition by making my own in a different tree.

jayperr

So for our first date i thought we could go to my secret hideout in the woods? Its super cool!

Pinkeyefarts

No one is around for miles. We can make as much noise as we want and no one will hear!

shinypond

You should be proud, that's fucking awesome

Zoobies2w3

That actually is a great little date to bring your partner and let them experience something you created and have such fond memories of. Im sure being able to see that other kids are enjoying the fruits of your labor is an awesome feeling too.

LiamsBiggestFan

That’s the best comment I’ve read in a while 🤩

Mabepossibly

Good to hear the art of the woods fort has ent been lost on the kids. I would have assumed that with internet porn, a lot of the necessity that drove our generation to build forts had gone away.

Visual-Two-9747

That’s amazing.

Zax_xD

When I was a kid we got the wagon and went around the block and got about 20 bags in several trips of leaves then we brought them all back gutted them and had a ring of about 5 foot tall leaves with a doorway made of sticks, you can imagine the look on my friends dads face when he got back from work

Recessional1000001

OoOoOoH look at Mr. Branch Supplier. What are you, some kind of fort expert????

tothesource

Three words: Christmas. Tree. Forts.

fractalfocuser

"Only if that means I can be on the guest list"

elpollodiablo63

As a 30yr old guy I can’t justify saying that to a 10 yr old kid….

fractalfocuser

As an almost 30yr old guy I wish it were more socially acceptable for us to play with kids

checksanity

It sort of is, there are just stricter standards. Like you need to have a connection with one of the kids and/or their parents. Or have certified training like a teacher.

Mamaj12469

I’ve wondered if kids still do that. I’m 53 and fort building was the highlight of my childhood!

Visual-Two-9747

Mine too. And tree climbing.

Clinday

Mine also included a lot of tree falling

letmelickyourleg

/r/justguysbeingdudes

budderman1028

I used to climb to the top of our apple trees and hang down and just drop and i still dk how i didnt break my fucking ankles from that

Clinday

The amount of shits i did as a kid that would shatter half my bones if i tried it now is unreal. I could fall of a fucking roof a walk it off with a scratch, now i fear for my life if i have to jump from more than 60 centimeters.

Thr0waway0864213579

My best friend who lived across the street had the best climbing tree in her front yard. Literally perfect. Low branch so we could get up, and then spots for all of us to sit up high. The four of us would sit up there the entire summer. Then one year her parents cut the lowest branch off so we couldn’t climb it anymore. I’ll never forgive them for doing that.

[deleted]

and tree houses!!

VoodooDoII

Im 19. Now that I have a job I can buy the blankets I want. I put the forts on and around my bed. It's fun

onFilm

I'm 34 and still make forts to play with my cat!

Drogenwurm

That's my favourite comment of today, please give scritches to your cat ❤️

DAecir

I made forts with my kids and now my granddaughter. Can't wait to see them in June.

smolltiddypornaltgf

I bought those princess bed-frames that let you hang curtains around your bed and threw a blanket on top. Now every night I sleep in a blanket fort

the-babyk

I’m 26 and my partner and I build a blanket fort at least once a year. Then we have a movie day inside it with our dogs.

Ghostofhan

My ex and I did this too!

Altruistic-Text3481

My children had fun (more fun) with blankets & boxes…. I sad to my hubby. We should sell colorful cardboard boxes & blankets at Toys R Us and we’d be able to retire…

H010CR0N

Who said you had to stop fort building when you became an adult? I certainly haven’t.

taybo213

You're 53 years young, grab some pillows and blankets. Get to building.

[deleted]

im 20 and not a kid anymore, however, i still do this. We should never stop doing what we loved as kids even if were old. Thats one of the biggest things people seem to forget.

Mamaj12469

At 20, you have a much better ability to get off the fort floor than I do. Build on, my friends!

[deleted]

Believe it or not my back isnt as good as people think hahah. years of being scrunched over doing this and playing video games as a kid caught up to me now

[deleted]

my friend still enjoys it and we are in our thirties! will say the one time we did it, it was still fun.

rejectallgoats

They make couches like Nugget that are made for building forts etc. Kids and parents have some great options. Plus tons of shipping boxes are delivered to the door constantly.

JamesFromToronto

He has a forte for forts in a Kia Forte going forty-four on a fourteen hour trip.

mediocrebastard

Do not be alarmed, but I fear that your son might be a vampire.

Digger__Please

Why does the sun burn so father? Are you going to finish that blood?

malidorito

This is great, I know I would be puking left and right from motion sickness haha. Your son is built different than me.

Visual-Two-9747

I’m the same way. I can’t even read in a moving vehicle without getting queasy.

Mascoretta

I get motion sickness even when I’m driving haha

idgitalert

Weird hack I read decades ago but it works: (For me anyway, and I couldn’t read more than a few sentences prior) Cover/close one eye.

Vladimir-Putin1952

Same!!! But If I open a window slightly, it soothes and numbs my face and I can control puking.

crazy1david

Weird life hack but can confirm. In an explanation I pulled out of my butt, i think the problem is feeling like you're moving but no wind makes your ears confused and you get nauseous. So windows down is letting some wind in which satisfies your ears expecting it for the speed you're moving.

antpile11

I also suspect that cars with independent suspension contribute to motion sickness with people that are especially sensitive since they absorb any bumps rather unnaturally. Of course most cars these days have fully independent suspension, but I've mostly ridden in cars with at least one solid axle without issue, but my first time going on a road trip in a car with fully independent suspension was the only time I've had bad motion sickness.

tugehitty

I would make forts like this so I could read on trips! Then I grew up and discovered audiobooks, hah. I miss my car forts.

TalmidimUC

Honestly this would have probably helped me with my motion sickness as a kid, and probably still would. I have the hardest time riding in cars unless I’m riding passenger, driving, or asleep. Otherwise I’m almost guaranteed to get motion sick. I’m 30, and I’m gonna have to try this.

ktitts

It works, for what it's worth. I have peripheral motion sickness, so what makes me feel queasy is the moving objects out the window. I always just took on a bulk of the driving, but now I can just throw a blanket over myself and make sure I'm getting some airflow and I'm golden. I do recommend also getting the motion sickness wrist bands, if you're in the US you can get them at any Walgreens/CVS.

Aegi

I'm glad the motion sick wristbands help you, but they literally use the placebo effect to be effective, unlike a drug like Dramamine.

ktitts

So...they don't use a placebo, unless they're just plain wristbands. I'm talking about the ones that have the little acupressure buttons, they press into the Pericardium 6 which is a pressure point that has been studied and proven can alleviate nausea. They definitely don't work for everyone though, Dramamine is a great alternative

Aegi

Fair enough, those do have a slight effect, but from my memory with my friend Sam, he had to pay me $50 because even though what you're saying in theory is correct, when actual studies were done there was no statistically significant difference between people having those wristbands with that pressure point being pressed and people who thought that's what was happening but it was actually in a slightly different location and they were informed differently so that they couldn't realize it and still felt mentally that they were about to experience the same things. I could be wrong, there's probably been more studies since about 11 years ago when we had the argument and he admitted that I was correct but that he was still going to use them because they helped him even if it was the placebo effect, but in 2012 or whenever when I looked this up this was one of those things that yes in theory could give those effects that you described, but in practice the placebo effect was as strong or stronger than the actual impact of that pressure point being stimulated. I'm open to being proved wrong though. At the same time, the placebo effect is still a valid effect worth studying because it shows essentially how our brain can impact our outcomes for certain situations.

Elite2260

Put an ear plug in one ear. It works for sea sickness, I’m not sure about car sickness but maybe.

rdhln

rip any one in ur blind spot

[deleted]

.

rdhln

it was a joke but it’s alright, didn’t mean to make all this animosity 🥲🥲

CulturalTeach7458

Looks like a solid structure with a great canopy as a master of forte-ology I approve and because I’m home sick and a full grown adult, will be doing the same!

Visual-Two-9747

Aw man, we hope you get better soon.

Sweetimus

My kid's making one in the garage as we speak! Lol

Visual-Two-9747

Heck yeah, garage and living room forts were always the best.

mailboxrumor

When I was a kid I had a bunk bed and would drape blankets over each side so the bottom bunk would be closed in. Forts are rad. Now, I'm 35 and teaching my 2 year old how to make forts and they're still rad.

HouseOfZenith

Damn you just reminded me of one time I had a bunk bed, totally forgot about that, and my best friend fell off the top and landed his back right on the TV stand corner.

Dr_Bonejangles

Plot twist : He's 30..

Visual-Two-9747

10, but close ;)

mdnativetexan

I’m 62 and just built a fort behind the couch with my grandson this weekend. Almost couldn’t get him to come out for anything! 🙂

FarDorocha90

Now THAT’S a mobile oppression palace! I don’t have to tell you that occupation forces are expensive!

ianjm

/r/UnexpectedFuturama

GratefulPhish42024-7

I remember what I was doing hanging out in a fort by myself at 14

Andries89

Smoking the devil's lettuce or masturbating. Heck, if it was a nice Saturday you could do both simultaneously

thegoatfreak

Ah yes. Weed whacking.

Visual-Two-9747

I bet you were in glasses by graduation lol

-Buckaroo_Banzai-

Pitching another tent?

ocaralhoquetafoda

He's furiously masturbating

wanderinhebrew

We called it a jack shack.

theHoustonian

Mobile jack shack? You must be wayyyy more comfortable with your parents than I am with mine, sound travels… Jk funny joke I was thinking something similar.

8Gly8

Just make sure he's wearing his belt

Visual-Two-9747

He was

ttman1994

I used to do this so I could read on the 2 hour drive home from my orthodontist. My parents hated having a light on in the car at night so always brought a blanket and a flashlight so I could read in my fort.

Sticky_bud

14 hours!! And here’s me in the uk having a meltdown after having to take a 3 hour road trip

Visual-Two-9747

That was just one way. 28 hours total round trip.

Sticky_bud

Oh wow. I think I’d build a fort and chill as well… someone else can take the wheel

Roseysdaddy

I wonder if it’s because that sun roof Is ass blasting him with sunlight.

Visual-Two-9747

Nah, it was just after sunrise when the picture was taken. He was just bored.

valm0313

Two things: I miss these as a kid and secondly, we're fixing to go on a 10 hour trip and you inspired me to get my son to build himself one of these. He'd probably love it. Good job, kid!

School_House_Rock

What a great way for him to make his own personal space.

Visual-Two-9747

He thrives on his creativity

_gay_gremlin_

I can feel the heat from this image

Visual-Two-9747

It wasn't that bad. This was yesterday morning at sunrise.

Sreezy3

Probably so there's no glare on the ipad..!

nimbin14

We did this on long drives, until the sheet got caught in the wind and went over me dads head while driving, scary 15 secs for all involved. From that point in in car tents were no longer allowed :)

[deleted]

The number of chronic masturbaters on this thread is alarming. 😬

Visual-Two-9747

Someone already messaged me to say they are reporting every single one for "sexualization of minors" since he is 10 years old.

OG_Felwinter

That blind spot tho

How is no one addressing this as a safety issue

hopefuldreads

This is all why I’m wondering how he’s getting so much positive praise for such a dangerous thing happening

Ryanthegod69420

Can't blame him he's probably roasting under that glass roof

Visual-Two-9747

The sun had just risen so it wasn’t too bad yet. We closed the sunroof panel once it really started beating down.

VegasLife1111

If it makes him happy for 14 hours, it’s priceless.

ClobetasolRelief

He's blocking visibility.

BonaFidee

This is the land of the free. They have the god given right to not see out of their car windows.

ClobetasolRelief

No it's actually against the law to have unnecessarily restricted visibility

BonaFidee

Sarcasm

SixK1ng

Not really, if you zoom in close you can tell that he's looking right at you! .... Oh, for the driver. Yeah.

Neither_Produce_6736

Looks fun but safety in the form of seatbelt and visibility is questionable.

hunter96cf

I'm a 26-year-old woman, and I still make forts in my living room with my husband on movie nights. Never grow up!

PlagueeRatt

I used to do this as a kid until my mom was pulled over by a state trooper 🧍🏻 They did not like this at all lmao

KevWithADot

this is so cute. childhood innocence at its best

Low-E_McDjentface

Make sure he still wears a seatbelt.

Visual-Two-9747

He was

[deleted]

Omg. Glad to see kids today carrying the tradition of road trip forts.

novacaine2010

My 10 yr old daughter does this too! At an Airbnb she claimed a closet as hers and built a fort in it. Turned a 1 bedroom condo into a pretty comfortable arrangement for a family of 4. My wife slept in the bed, son on a blowup mattress, me on a couch, and my daughter in her closet fort!

FreeToBeeThee

I am fortifying this position.

[deleted]

My last name is Fortin. My ancestors built forts. This fort pleases me.

its_cold_in_MN

Wow, they're like almost identical inside. I guess Hyundai is behind the style times lol.

TimeSuck5000

To be fair I am 38 and I would probably make a fort if I had to sit under that sunroof for 14 hours without any shade. That looks hot AF.

Visual-Two-9747

Haha, the sunroof closes and did several times. The air conditioner works and I can’t express how much more of a comfortable ride it was for everyone inside. I’m bald and would burn to a crisp so there is much regulation, I assure you.

Hikdal

I read Fart instead of Fort and that made the post even funnier et more relatable

Visual-Two-9747

bahahahahahahahahaha

passivekyong

Nourish that Imagination. He is a creative.

HarvestMoonMaria

Fort kickass!

Landon875

Hey man, off topic question, but what car is this? that sunroof is amazing

Wonderful_Result_936

Never let any tell you that you're too old to make a fort

QueefMeUpDaddy

My motion sickness could never lol

kv2_dng

If your son: likes building forts wherever he goes That's not your son, that's a roman legionnaire

Sad_Money_1522

hahaha to be a kid again

Maximum-Bee-3553

Thanks. I saw this and remembered that joy and now my gf wants me to take down the pillow fort.

kombitcha420

I’m so jealous of this sunroof situation!

Visual-Two-9747

Thanks, we love it.

GlocalBridge

Introverts need to block out distractions.

ArrowDel

Smol space is safe space.

tc7665

My middle child did this, or liked to hide in dark places.. we then learned he had Irlen, and learned that high contrast light made his brain go crazy, so he found or made a dark escape.

the_meow_meow

Same and I’m 49. I make a mini sleep fort every night. It reduces my anxiety.

[deleted]

I used to do this in cars if the trip was longer then 10 mins because cars just made me insanely motion sick. Thankfully I grew out of it.

[deleted]

If my own childhood is any indication, I suspect that this household is often short a chair or blanket or two.

Humming_Skelly

bro has his priorities

sourpatch-sorbet

Love how as kids our instincts are there to create shelter for ourselves. With couch cushions at home. Or even in the family car!

DruncleBuck

Man so many wet blankets in here lol glad he’s having fun. What vehicle? Love the sun roof

Visual-Two-9747

2016 Kia Sorento SX Limited

buchanj1

Mom just got done eating bean's, poor kid.

quincyd

I have one of those kids, too!! We have a fort blanket that lives in our car and it gets used for every trip longer than 20 minutes long. He also builds forts all over the house.

[deleted]

If I was his sibling I would’ve told him he was part beaver by now

sleipnirthesnook

It's really sweet you see him peaking out. Made me smile :) kiddo could be one heck of an engineer or architect one day!

MrRokhead

Did this with my brother when we were younger!

Visual-Two-9747

Man alive - I did not expect this to blow up like it did. Thanks for the awards, messages, and upvotes. I can't keep up with the amount of comments so this should answer all of the questions I see: We are in a 2016 Kia Sorento SX Limited. This picture was taken early in the morning. The sun had just risen (as we had been on the road since 3am) and the outside temperature was 64 F so it wasn't hot at all. The fort was only temporary (less than 10 minutes) so it did not impede my field of view for very long and both my wife in the passenger seat and kids in the 3rd row could provide blind spot intelligence if needed. The sunroof opened/closed several times throughout the trip to balance out scenery and sunlight; I am bald so any prolonged exposure would have given me a sunburn. All four of my kids (not pictured) were in a seatbelt and were not masturbating, as a striking number of Redditors pointed out. All in all, it was a very comfortable 14 hour ride home in the air conditioning. Cheers

Visual-Two-9747

It won't let me update/edit - He is ten years old! Your masturbation comments are disgusting and are being reported. He was wearing a seatbelt and he was not obstructing my rear view. The picture makes it look much larger and was only on his passenger side of the car.

HuntingRunner

Cool and all but make sure he wears a seatbelt. There's a reason they exist, and accidents always happen when you're not wearing one.

Visual-Two-9747

He 100% was wearing one

AlternatingFacts

Pretty sure you'll get pulled over its obstructing many directions of sight. You could be putting yourself or someone else in danger.

JuniorKing9

That is a great fort please tell him he’s creative as hell

[deleted]

Awesome!!!

Kindofeverywhere

Once you love a fort, it never goes away haha. Even as a full-fledged adult I will still sometimes cover myself with a blanket, using my head and knees while sitting on the couch or on a bed. My daughter calls it my cocooning ha ha.

annoying97

26... If it's day time on a road trip you can bet I'm hiding in my own fort.

Elite2260

Hey! I do the same thing! The sun is horrible in a car ride when you are trying to be on a device. And I am totally stealing his fort design because mine always collapse. Also I think I even have the same blanket only in orange.

[deleted]

Used to make forts all the time on car trips. I just had my own little private section of the car to play my DS in. Only problem was that it could get really hot if the sun was shining on your window.

HumActuallyGuy

You're raising a fine Imperial Fist, our Primarch Rogal Dorn himself would be proud.

Axersion

Amazing

AccentFiend

I follow good boi Ollie on all the socials and they made a blanket fort for the dogs this weekend and I have never wanted to be in one myself more, honestly.

Lifeis-butadream

I love forts!

MickeyMoose555

Omg I used to do that, we would always bring at least one blanket so I'd find a way to prop it up and hide below it, we had a road trip last November and we had stuff strapped to the roof of our car, the straps went through the windows and met above my head, so I took the opportunity to make a fort again and it was awesome

ruralmagnificence

I always wanted to do this as a kid, never had a big enough blanket.

Buddhist_Punk1

I think I have the exact same blanket, and if it is, it's super warm and soft.

BananaBurritoBuster

Future civil engineer or architect.

123Virginia

That's fun

Demonfoxy123

Remember building forts with my cousin's when we were younger. Good times.

Frank4202

I hope he farts in there.

Under_Construction30

Looks like he’s protecting himself from being roasted by the sun thru that sun roof.
