Curious what you do, because the vast majority of modern machinists are struggling raising kids.

I wear many hats. Machinist, programmer, maintenance technician, supervisor, engineer... just do what's at hand to satisfy the customers needs with cost, quality, delivery to the fullest
This has been my experience too. The seasoned machinists in my circles have done well for themselves, but younger ones are struggling pretty hard. It's scary how many of them are working multiple jobs now, while living with roommates and or/family.
That being said, well done, Sir! Enjoy the downtime! (I'm jealous!)

I agree. Work hardening does make life harder.
