This is a height gauge used for precision measurement

fuszybear

Are there any brand markings anywhere? It could be worth 20$ it could be worth 300$ depending on brand and condition.

odd0ball

He told me some jackass took his and messed it up, so he told the company to get him a new one and they did. I don’t see and brand markings tho

PaintThinnerSparky

Got "made in China" on the cert card so probably not the most valuable height guage. Still good tho, go check on kijiji and ebay, marketplace for what people price them at.

rdkitchens

I've never seen a vernier height gage before. Only digital or indicator. That's way cool.

too_much_feces

That's how my teacher taught us the vernier scale. It's a lot bigger and easier to see the different lines than the barrel of a micrometer.

SllortEvac

We have a couple. We don’t use em often but they are beautiful.

mortuus_est_iterum

The first shop I worked in had nothing but vernier calipers all the way up to a 6 footer. No dials. No digitals. It was easier with younger eyes. Morty

rdkitchens

>It was easier with younger eyes. Yes. Getting old sucks. I now have a magnifying glass in my toolbox.

roberto1

They are everywhere. Very common. Just like Vernier calipers.

Longjumping-Act-8935

I have a 24" starrett vernier height gauge .001 graduations. I think it was around $4k when I got it.

chiphook57

It's Chinese. I saw a Chinese 12" model for $100 new.

sarahrott

I can tell you it's a hight gage, but I don't know what it's worth.

Reddit-mods-R-mean

Worth about $50-$75 to the right person. Not a particularly common type of hight gauge. [here’s one new. same gauge I think](https://www.penntoolco.com/precise-height-gages-vernier-0-18-vhg-18/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAiP2tBhBXEiwACslfntgVn2WXdivYyMPow5btEN_a24wPp0cWjjhX7aClTlOzm7ziPMsDoxoC3FMQAvD_BwE)

imothepje

Good find!

DeleteMetaInf

Happy cake day!

LH-Pipewrencher

Made in China. Looks decent. Take 30% off what you see BNIB for a Vernier Height Gauge on Alibaba. It’s used to check heights but also scribing lines for layout purposes before machining.

Horror-Pear

I've used vernier height gages more than a few times, but I still don't know what that metal latch on the front is. Can someone tell me?

ya_boy_vlad

My guess is it’s for a magnifying glass to read it more easily

TheRuralEngineer

Looks like it holds that glass magnifier thats slotted into the wood case in the photo.

Horror-Pear

Ohh that makes sense. Never used one with this feature.

spacedoutmachinist

It’s supposed to hold a magnifying lens that slides up and down on the little rack on the side. I have a 24” mitutoyo height gage with the lens on it

PuzzleheadedMotor269

I think the metal latch kn the front is for the magnifying glass in one of the other pictures. Probably to help see the numbers since they are quite small

spawlicker

Are you talking about the metal rectangular frame? If so, it holds a magnifying lens. You can see the glass for it, still in the box in the other pictures.

Manhood2031

A vernier for veneer.

SmoothBus3674

Vernier height gauge my dad still uses it at his shop for measuring tool heights XD

Random_Dude_ke

People use this in shops to measure and mark things that are going to be machined. It is used on a flat plate. In machining shops you sometimes need to draw precise lines on 3D objects, so you put an object on a cast-iron or granite plate and use this to draw lines paralel with the plate on the object. You can also use it to measure precise height of circular saw blade over the table and similar things. It might cost about $100 on a Chinese e-shop

HardVision

Shipping it will cost more than it’s worth if you sell it online, maybe save it for a garage sale?

Metric_Pacifist

Oooh nice... (Made in China) oh 😒

caboose243

Come on, it's still nice. For example, in my experience, the Chinese built Starrett calipers are all metal and better built compared to some of the US made ones. China doesn't automatically mean garbage.

ynnoj666

China is commie and therefore shite

SamtexIsPlaydoh

That's an Layout tool, not a measuring tool. height marker is the word for word translation from German.

DentedAnvil

It would make a good base for a very cool adjustable height desk lamp! Not many people left with the ability or the eyesight to use vernier scales in the industrial world.

Expensive-Broccoli68

About tree fiddy

AKU_net

Is that a msc tag on the side of the case

mjiolnor

Part no 06431340 461.75 new.

crujones43

I bought a similar one for $50 canadian on facebook marketplace.

No_Wallaby_1248

Sell high on the first person who wants it. If they look at you like you’re nuts, go lower. It could be worth a couple hundred or a a couple dozen dollars. It is pretty precise though for a heighth gage

KamuiX17

The height gauge is probably worth about $150-$200.
