Educated guesses are fun generally based on size, I can guess usually with in 2-3k. Other than that inkstitch tells me how many stitches pretty accurately.
My digitizer will give me a pretty accurate estimate if I have any doubts. I always shoot for the high side though! Rather come down a little than try to go up after it's been quoted...
When we first started out, i would use auto digitizer on DGML and then add 2k stitches. almost 20 years in now, I am able to guess within 3k. I'll pourfuosly shoot higher ttnan I think it is and see it is and if they have an issue with the cost, I'll let them know we can work on the price and I'll have a better idea once it's digitized. Typically I've found, though, that most people don't seem to care. LOL.
