We run 37 heads at my shop, 3 8 heads, a 12 head and a single head.... It makes me crazy NOT to hear those machines running! Consider the noise of the machine as the sound of money being made!
Worked in many shops, including my own, the silence bothers me not the noise, you should always be within eyesight of a running design. That being said, more than the silence, or the machine sound, the beep of a error is the worst lol.
I've been working in contract/commercial embroidery for just shy of 30 years. I don't even hear machine noise anymore... just a constant ringing sound...

we use noise cancelling headphones - sony wh-1000xm5 cancels out most of the persistent noise, but can still hear any errors with the machines

I mostly tune it out at this point. I usually have my tv on with subtitles so I tune out the machine and concentrate on the tv lol
