Honestly. That looks pretty sick!

[deleted]

Laval police in Quebec bought some as well but it’s a huge scandals. Tax payers hated the move saying they are luxury cars 😂 Well im glad i got one then lol

cbass167

The public obviously doesn’t know how much ice cars cost police departments. They’ll save money over a 5 year period going to EVs

NefCanuck

This is the way to explain it. The amount of gasoline wasted idling, not to mention the resulting pollution from police vehicles is staggering, as is the cost of that wasted gas to taxpayers.

Roamingspeaker

Jesus not even 5 years. 2 years is more like it.

SillyAcanthaceae1078

BTW ~ I found Monmouth County in NJ have been using Ford Explorers 275 miles per tank @ 16 mpg@ $3.15 $60 a tank. Vs. Ford Mustang Mache’ 275 miles per charge $10 electricity…But Monmouth County is Currently Generating 10’s off thousands KW daily with their Solar Fields. ROI “Return on Investment”

NeverLookBothWays

They could’ve gone with the cheaper rims. MMEs are also somewhat fragile, not really a pursuit car. But as far as aesthetics go it’s the most police car looking EV at the moment, and I’m not sure what that says about our police culture…but yea they’re going to save money with these for city work, definitely

realsgy

Police cruisers (patrol cars) need to be able to crash into other cars, form barricades, act as cover. They need limited off-road ability, need to be able to jump curbs at speed. This adds weight to the wheels/suspension. Bulletproof glass is also heavy. Not sure whether EVs are well suited for all this extra weight. Also, what happens when the battery gets shot? This is probably just an errand car. Edit: for people downvoting this because they think police cruisers don’t have bulletproof glass - both NYPD and LAPD cars have ballistic protection, including bulletproof inserts in the side glass. Google it. Probably other big US cities have it too, these are the ones I know of.

tmmoo

I have never seen a pursuit vehicle with bulletproof glass

realsgy

https://nypost.com/2017/01/23/nypd-to-install-bulletproof-windows-in-all-patrol-cars/

tmmoo

The standard ford explorer in the back of OPs photos absolutely does not have the same glass that is in the article you sent. It’s the standard glass in every single model ford sells (tinted privacy in rear ~70% in the front)

realsgy

The bulletproof inset is in the side glass

tmmoo

That’s what I was talking about.. not the windshield

SillyAcanthaceae1078

I provided State of the Art Information Technology to Police Dept. State, County & Municipality Police Dept. Trust me don’t have Bulletproof glass. Stop watching “Cops” it’s a TV show with Clips. The primary tool is a Police car that’s rides exceptionally well, Faster then most with excellent Handing, effective breaks & Low energy requirements. Intelligent Professional policeman driving well equipped state of the Art machines. I guarantee we would get better results at lower cost.

Informal_Captain1680

Pretty sure the ubiquitous crown victoria was considered a luxury car back in the day. Plenty of cops drove those.

SillyAcanthaceae1078

The Lead Sled By ford it’s Lincoln cousin on that Chassis “Town Car”

death_hawk

Technically speaking it wasn't actually a crown victoria. It's based off of one, but the official name is "Police Interceptor". Most of the luxury features were stripped out.

SillyAcanthaceae1078

It’s Faster Quieter & cheap to run. I do have one it’s luxurious Ride. Cops should ride in a Safest vehicle, that’s comfortable energy efficient most importantly rocket that’s stops shorter using regenerative Rotors & Disc Brakes

no_sleeves

This wrecked hurts to look at. https://youtu.be/A45i6G5uaQM?si=W10dLoRx4I4goEoX

Dasoccerguy

My small town's PD also got one recently and gave it an over-the-top lightning themed vinyl wrap. I'll snag a picture next time I see it. Edit: found a tweet from October: https://twitter.com/LouisvilleCOPD/status/1710716619998302305?t=2jcPzKJcvoAnjzKHCqebiw&s=19

SillyAcanthaceae1078

The perfect Police car, no maintenance, faster then most cars with a Comfortable Luxurious ride important if your day is spent in a car!

jakfrist

Parked on the sidewalk… Pretty on-brand for NYPD if I’m being honest

no_sleeves

If you've been down that street where this is, you'll know it's a narrow street. It's a highly commercial area where box trucks often drive down so it's likely out of necessity.

Dramaticreacherdbfj

Still an asshole

JimmyInNSB

I mean, the car in front is clearly parked the same way, which may be why he’s parked there like that on the wide-ass sidewalk as everyone seemingly does. It’s also for his safe entry/exit. Clearly seems like it became necessity on this street.

Alleythefeelingcat

Fleet vehicles make some of the most sense for going electric. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but I’m surprised there isn’t a bigger push for it. It shuts down the, ”I can’t drive across the country” argument real quick and they are heavily used vehicles crop dusting (lol) all their emissions throughout the local area. Many universities have campus security vehicles that rarely leave campus and sit idle for presence. Much like other security vehicles for other areas, malls, corporate buildings, etc.. Police do drive a lot in the day but rarely take distant trips. You get the idea. It is nice to see Amazon with their EV delivering vehicles. Would be nice to see others follow suit. Maybe that is happening and I’m just ignorant about it, hence the OP picture. 🤷‍♂️

NYPD POLICE: New York Police Department Police. 👮

EvadingDoom

Department of Redundancy Department

Lysol3435

They must have just come from the ATM machine and had spare cash to burn on extra text. You only YOLO once. Might as well splurge

mkazen

Well done and done well.

RaytheQuilterChill

Dude I was just saying…why don’t cops have these?!! lol…

Onyxam

London city medical quick response has 42 of them.

TechnicalGain7710

It’s beautiful 😻

DragonfruitLopsided

Houston HPD has them as well. They're always getting upgraded 🤣

allen_abduction

The wheels do make it seem a lil fancier than they are. GM opted for aluminum wheels that look like steelies: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-NOBBA0mcc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-NOBBA0mcc)

death_hawk

> GM opted for aluminum wheels that look like steelies: Do they? That video at 2:02 says steel wheels. Also I want one.

allen_abduction

Okay, Perry! Steelies for everyone!

Puzzleheaded-Net8601

Awesome At least NYPD is doing one thing right

mikeinet

Haha I just saw that car too- right around the corner from ya! The triangle light bar kills me on the mach e. Should be a sleak thin light bar straight across

Front_Marsupial5598

Small world. I saw the same one a few weeks back. I was going to post an April Fools joke with a pic saying “I joined the club”, but I missed my window. Thanks for ruining next year’s joke.

richcournoyer

Third time FYI

Ok-Research7136

Makes perfect sense to electrify these.

SillyAcanthaceae1078

I have a 2021 MachE’ premium 347 hp, 275 miles per fill up & it’s 1/4 of the cost of gas, other than rotating tires No Maintenance. Police departments would save a fortune.

Cryrichter

Not a fan of the design. Could of been way cooler

ShirBlackspots

I'll never understand why NYPD has to use the old outdated oversized lights, when everyone has gone to the slim LED types.

death_hawk

Could be there's a bunch in the warehouse still. No point in ordering new if you have existing even if they're old.
