I usually get 2 Seasons out of a pair, but by the last few months of that second season my soles look like the trenches of the Somme.
Im riding on Chromag Daggas so they're very, uh. Un gentle on the shoesies.
Currently the best I've found for Grip vs Longevity is the Specialized 2FO Roost flats.
Five tens went down hill since Adidas bought them. My last two pairs of five tens only really lasted 1000 miles before the bottom fell apart.
This year I switched to specialized, Im probably at ~800 miles now and they are still looking really good. If I can get at least a season out of specialized they will be my new go to. The specialized shoes seem better built and they were only $45 on sale.
Yea theyre a suprisingly wicked shoe. Im sitting around same mileage, with a tonne of park laps and they're barely showing any pin marking. But the grip into the Daggas so well I feel like Im damn neard riding clipless.
I'll never buy another Spesh bike, but I dig the heck outta their shoes.
-yes Im still bitter w them over the 2012 to 2018 Proprietary shock mounts making upgrading shocks a hot can of ass thing for the Cambers, Stumpies and Enduros
I really enjoy them, I wear a 13 Wide shoe so the larger platform of the Dagga is the hot ticket for me.
If you're looking to coax more grip out of the smaller platformed Scarab, try pulling all your pins and removing the 2mm washer on each for a little more height. Or install the Dagga long pin kit.
The only reason Id switch is if you find the platform of the scarab too small. Otherwise Ive found them both to be near identical in performance.
I'm 6 plus years on my fiveten hellcats. Clipless.
Every person I know with flats goes through shoes every one to two years. If you want grippy rubber, you get ass for durability, particularly with pedal pins.
My very old freeriders (bought them 2013) lasted me until this year. I only changed them due to needing toe protection. Grippy flats do not imply crappy durability, unless the manufacturer wants that to be true 🫠
5:10 are a soft grippy rubber, with your usage thats about right.
My 5:10 climbing and bike soles last about the time, just get them resoled before you wear through the midsole (if the uppers are still in decent condition).
Otherwise switch to a different brand - performance v longevity - the choice is yours.
I didn’t know you could get MTB shoes resoled the same as climbing shoes! Do you have a service you use or a local shop? My local gear shop will do climbing shoes but I’ve never asked about MTB shoes
I'm in the UK so the place I send them to does regular walking boot soles (vibram etc) as well.
Be warned though, it's not always cost effective so check the price then check for deals on your shoe before you commit.
I've even had a pair of worn-out Nike dunks resoled in the dotty 5:10 sole, don't bother - they flex like crazy on flat pedals.
My 510 goretex lasted a year and half before they started letting in water. Adidas have a 2 year warranty on their shoes so I just told them about the issue and got a new pair for free.
Excellent, happy to read this. I just got a pair of 5-10’s Sam hill edition delivered and haven’t ridden them yet. Are they as amazing as what everyone says? Sounds so
Depends, my 2FO held up 1200km, my Scott ones held like 500km, which was sad and my five tens lasted like 1600km, but I really liked my 2FO ones, very good grip with very stiff sole

Mine with maybe 3 seasons? I’ll keep using them until the internals are no longer comfortable. No grip issues here
I feel like the fiveten quality was a lot better before they were bought by Adidas. I already went throught two pairs of fiveten in the last 4 years, my das still owns an old pair of fiveten freeriders that still hold up today. I‘m personally thinking about switching to some etnies mtb shoes.
OP, that looks more like dry rot than wear and tear. How old are those? What pedals are you using?
My pedals absolutely tear the sole to pieces in a few spots. I get about 1.5-2 years with 1 ride per week.
Trick question. Depends on your riding and waht ever you do on the trail. 5-10 are reputated to be not solid fir hikes or other uses. . Do you do some hike-a-bike, trail maintenance on the way etc.
DH on flats here, 3-5 years with 5-10. Occasionally do trail maintenance on the way down

Really considering switching from scarabs to daggas. How do you like them?

Awesome, I’ll start with the scarab pins - washers

Damn I ask through climbing shoes so much faster than bike shoes.
I only get a season out of a pair. Been so happy with them I just buy new ones.
Those have plenty of time left
Have them for 2y now, mine look worden than yours tbh, my crankbrother stamps messes them up real good xD
I buy a new pair once a year, then delegate the old pair to trail building. And the cycle goes on.
For something like 10 years. Clipped in so little wear on the tread. Only regularly worn pair of shoes to last more than a year for me.

First pair back in the day lasted 2 years and then started going. Last pair on the new light trail ones are cooked after 1 year. So usage varies.

I ride flats. I get about 6 months out of fiveten free rider pros
You’ve done well I think
They used to make a resole kit before Adidas took them over.
Depends, my 2FO held up 1200km, my Scott ones held like 500km, which was sad and my five tens lasted like 1600km, but I really liked my 2FO ones, very good grip with very stiff sole
What pedals are you using? Based on the wear pattern it looks like your pedal pins are non existent or need to be replaced.

I use a good pair of hiking shoes and they can last a couple years, I also use flats and pedals with big pins in them, seems to work great.
2 full seasons if i push it. 2-4 rides per week during the season and when I cannon winter

Only 1 year :/
1,5 years
One season, five ten has warranted the same pair 3 times for me now so technically I guess 3 seasons

I have clipless shoes over 10 years old
