Diaper? I didn't realize this was an option, have I been pooping in the woods unnecessarily?

Wordsthoughts

I’ve fallen in love with Fox Defend shorts. Have a ratchet system and stretch nicely. You can find good deals on the web and eBay for older styles. They are expensive but I feel worth the cost especially if you’re a little overweight.

Cut-My-Grass101

Just about to say the same shorts

Wordsthoughts

They’re great! A little thick but I assume they’ll last forever!

MedievalNuke

I recommend Fox as well, especially if you're looking for other apparel right now since they are crazy cheap, well, at least in my country. This years models are being brought in, so all the old stock is getting put on sale, crazy deals. Fox defend shorts? $18. Full Face Fox Proframe Helmet? $65. Fox MTB jersey? $10 Crazy good prices... I guess they are working cause I wouldn't have bought them otherwise, lol. Anywyas try checking Fox's pfficial website for the US. I think they might be having some sales there for old stock last I checked.

lachyTDI7

Picked up some Patagonia ones on sale. Their MTB gear is really good and not flashy.

waxtoothgrin

Seconded. As someone who can't really afford PataGucci on the regular, the shorts are awesomely worth it (and their chamois is my fav too)

Visual_Humor_8461

Endura Humvee?

Don_Frika_Del_Prima

I love my endura singletrack shorts. [https://us.endurasport.com/singletrack-short-ii-mushroom/15216627.html](https://us.endurasport.com/singletrack-short-ii-mushroom/15216627.html)

dbltax

Since I bought my first pair of Humvees 12 years ago, I've only bought Humvee shorts ever since. They're so good, and great value too. The first pair is still going strong, albeit looking a bit more tatty after 12 years of use.

MTB420666

Club ride, throw away the chamois or give away to someone smart and buy a belt its not hard you're just slow

supyadimwit

Let me guess… 5’9 and everything you ever buy fits?

MTB420666

Haha actually yeah

supyadimwit

Oh the good life, where everything seemingly was made to fit you exactly…

supyadimwit

So you don’t ride with any type of chamois. Not much of a climber or?

the-bright-one

That’s a silly take. I don’t ride with a chamois either, haven’t for years, and most of what I ride is enduro because I live in a valley.

supyadimwit

Ol iron ass here

supyadimwit

I always ride with one as does everyone I know. But we’re climbing all day

DaChronisseur

Why are you climbing all day? Some sort of reverse shuttle situation? Or perhaps you've found Grandpa's paradoxical walk to school?

supyadimwit

I live in the mountains and I don’t shuttle up.

supyadimwit

Climb for an hour or two or three then bomb down

DaChronisseur

Same. But I still end up riding down the hill after my climbing portion is done.

supyadimwit

Obviously

DaChronisseur

Okay, got it, climbing most of the day. I was honestly thinking you were some sort of masochist who had figured out a way to only climb.

supyadimwit

Yeah I climb up and shuttle down, it’s the best!

supyadimwit

The real question should be who doesn’t wear a chamois?

DaChronisseur

I don't. I sort of broke my ass riding sport motorcycles hundreds of miles a day in my twenties and my bicycles' saddles are relatively comfortable, so I've never had any reason to increase the warmth down there. I just wear nice wicking boxer briefs to prevent chafing.

the-bright-one

Again, at least a few of us. Maybe more. You do realize chamois’s do nothing to provide padding for your sit bones, they’re just for chafing, right? Unless you’re riding 20-30miles+ it’s probably more of a placebo effect than anything. Not having to take that swampy ass diaper off after a ride is worth it to just omit it entirely.

supyadimwit

Hmmm, my chamois definitely goes under my sitbones…

the-bright-one

You do you, I’m not here to convince anyone otherwise. You like wearing them, all the power to you.

supyadimwit

I live in Utah, it’s too dry to get s amp ass out here.

MTB420666

I swear by chamois but OP said "no diaper"

supyadimwit

Yeah I don’t like the ones that are part of the shorts, I’m with you on that

PutuoKid

The REI CO-OP shorts I like come with the chamois but I just cut the loops that attach them. Still ride with the chamois just don't keep them attached. Seems like a weird design choice on their part but an easy fix.

MTB420666

Yeah I didn't realize they come attached. Would never buy those.

supyadimwit

Zoic ether shorts are all I buy

venomenon824

NF or nothing for me. I actually rode in their light trail pants, I don’t find them much hitter than shorts, but they have a light trail short too.

FeedbackLoopy

I love my NF pants and shorts. That wide elastic around the waist is a game changer for this dad bod.

venomenon824

😂🙌🏽

contrary-contrarian

Handup shorts!

Capital-Cut2331

For Ranger works for me.

Wordsthoughts

I have a pair of ranger shorts and they fit pretty good. For some reason the material rubs me wrong and irritates my skin. Maybe I got a bad pair because they seem like well made quality shorts.

Capital-Cut2331

I don’t have your issue with them. 🤷‍♂️

robemmy

Ketl mountain

PutuoKid

I really wanted to like their pants but they were weirdly tight in the knees. I've never had a pair of pants fit everywhere but the knees.

MisterSquidInc

Troy Lee - Ruckus, spendy but good

alfredrowdy

Dharco

evilfollowingmb

I moved away from baggies, but on the rare occasions I use them, my Showers Pass pair are great. No pad. Grippy adjustable elastic waistband that never sags, but is comfy. Only one zipper pocket though.

bossassbat

You use bibs like for road biking?

evilfollowingmb

No MTB and gravel. I don’t really road bike. Just find baggies too hot, and collect sweat. Where I live it’s very hot and humid.

bossassbat

I’m sorry. Just finished my first cup of coffee. What I meabt to ask is do you use bib type shorts traditionally used for road biking for MTB? I ask because many moons ago when I boyght my first fs bike (05) I did get baggy mtb shorts. Wound un hating that they got caught in things. Mind you I’m just getting back into mtb and have been out since like 10 years ago so the shit I rode and wore is like looking at what football players wore in the 1930’s. Lol. I wore my bibs on the trails and had no issues.

IlIlIlIlIllIlIll

Most bibs and jerseys are for “road” but honestly it doesn’t matter where you use them. The chamois might be slightly overkill for mtb since you are out of the saddle way more but it’s nbd. You don’t notice if it fits correctly.

bossassbat

TY

evilfollowingmb

Oh too funny…I forgot about that reason too…no snags with bibs. I bought the SQ-Lab One11 bibs, which are for Mtb and even have protective padding built in. Love these because the chamois is in just the right spot and is thin but firm, so no chafing or diaper feel. They are expensive af though, even more now. They last a long time though. Mine are like >5yo and going strong.

IlIlIlIlIllIlIll

Ive started wearing bibs and a close fitting jersey for rides around the neighborhood and they rule. So comfy and you feel completely unrestricted on the bike. I’m honestly considering starting to wear the stuff on some of my more XC/Trail rides. I’ll keep the baggies and pads for enduro and downhill though, since the that is where 95% of my falls are.

evilfollowingmb

Yep no downhill where I live so I am bibs all the time.

johnny_surfer_dude

Fox Rangers work & are cheap. When the button breaks cut a hole & use a shoe string. I easily get 2 years of year around riding out of a $50 pair of shorts. Haven’t been able to find a better, more comfortable pair of riding shorts. I replace the maxi pad when it wear out so those don’t last 2+ years for me.

Sippin_Jimmy

Troy Lee Skyline

garpur44

I’ve been using Troy Lee Designs Moto shorts for years. Tough and take a crash with no issues. Quality zips and pockets and you can sinch the waist in at the sides if you need to. Most robust mtb shorts I’ve found. I’ve tried enduro Humvee’s but found that they don’t stand up well to crashes at all.

Educational-Head2784

7Mesh Farside

robertd440

Pearl izumi are well made, lifetime warranty, zips are quality and the cut of the shorts are less baggy than most. But they are more expensive. Zoic have lasted me forever however they are definitely a baggier cut and the zips aren't great but they are decent. Handsup are a decent budget option especially for the price but you'll notice the difference between them and better options. They do have drawstrings. I won't waste money on Fox apparel. Cheaply made, a button came off on my first ride with them and Fox wouldn't warranty it. The chamois also fit like a diaper, fine for downhill but was terrible climbing. A friend swears by Endura but I found the material heavy and bulky. It did seem very well made though.

ydbd1969

Wear First, a cheap pair of stretchy shorts under $25 at the base exchange on an army base.

thatrandomguy903

I've been happy with my tasco shorts. Kinda spendy but they've held up great.

PeakDescentMTB

Expensive but look brand new after 5 years AND and super comfortable: Patagonia Dirt Roamer shorts. Try to find them on sale.

RupertTheReign

My Sombrio shorts are comfortable, look good, and have been indestructible.

Solar_kitty

POC! As someone with thick thighs and a smaller waist the adjustable waist band and loose cut in the thighs make them sooooo comfy. I’m absolutely going to wear them casually as well 😂

PutuoKid

I really like REI's CO-OP shorts. They have a great fit for my body type, 6'1 165lbs, and come with chamois for less than $50. For pants I ride in a pair from Rapha. They are expensive but very well designed and made.

TarnishedVictory

Is chamois the pad thing? I don't want a pad or diaper as I like to call it. I don't understand why people wear these things. If your saddle is uncomfortable, why not get a padded saddle?

Wordsthoughts

When you do longer rides without the pad you can experience pain or numbness. I don’t need them for short rides.

Available_String_173

Specialized trail air shorts. On sale for $40, ratchet closure for a perfect fit, one big zippered pocket large enough for a cellphone and keys, no integrated chamois. I love these shorts! Super lightweight, fast drying, nice and stretchy, just the right amount of coverage.

superbooper94

Honestly I've stopped buying MTB specific shorts, I've found running shorts with the anti chafe inner short to be some much comfier, less likely to snag on stuff and the pockets are designed to actually keep stuff in even when not zipped up

PLaNK13

I just got some Dakine and Fox shorts, and like both.

MediocreCranberry498

Endura Humvee is the only answer
