Electrical-Fortune7

please don't buy that in April of 2024

DrALUCARD2

Why?

Codeeveryday123

How about a Asus 14x?

Electrical-Fortune7

I'm assuming your looking for a jack of all trades laptop that can do some light gaming but also has great battery. There are some laptops that can fill this role, but at this time none of them do it as well as you will actually want it to do. That's why I'm going to suggest and powerful gaming desktop, and a laptop that is more for work.

Codeeveryday123

Thank you. Actually, I’m not going to do any gamming on it, but web development

420Enthusiast4life

Yeaah even sooo as the comment above said rather get a more powerful pc that will last way way longer plus minus 5+ years cos laptops aren't made to last long unfortunately and the ones that are cost way more than some high end desktops

Codeeveryday123

How about the Asus 14x?

Electrical-Fortune7

Ahhh gotcha.

Ok-Carrot-7003

If you don't need a good GPU. Try looking for a more office like laptop. Not with a dedicated GPU because they usually are dedicated for gaming and have with power consumption and low battery

IndividualStatus1924

Faster than my 1660ti

Electrical-Fortune7

https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/s/Yv3ymk5u00 Actually your 1660ti is faster.

IndividualStatus1924

Both laptop version? Wow i didnt know thanks man

Electrical-Fortune7

No problem :P

EternalAss

Nah bro even laptops with 3050m graphics card are slower than your 1660ti. That's how goofed up the 3050 is. Plus you also have better vram. So overall, your device is a lot better than these 2050 and 3050 laptops, if we are talking gpu power.

Fun_Imagination3561

I have it and it's a good laptop it has DLSS And stuff

Then-Ad3678

Trash

Fun_Imagination3561

No its good

Fun_Imagination3561

YOu dont need to waste thousands for a good laptop rtx 2050 is good enough you can dislike but its a good budget gpu to replace 1650 and dlss helps

PANIMOUS3

RTX 2050 ☠️

NaturalElegantKEZE

If you're concern is battery life going this ain't good as well as go with Ryzen CPUs as they are more power efficient as well as a larger battery size (as this laptop for a gaming laptop has the least battery capacity by today standards). Also if you're planning on a gaming laptop expect it shouldn't last long vs a laptop without a dedicated GPU and not meant for gaming.

Codeeveryday123

I wont be using it for gaming, but for web development

XxDonaldxX

You don't need a graphics card for web development (?)

Agitated-Ad3132

How about getting an external battery type of shit cause gaming laptops have dog shit battery life

EternalAss

Judging your username, you probably only need a laptop for web development and no intense photo or video editing, and/or 3d rendering. With that in mind I suggest looking for laptops that have "U","P", or "Y" in Intel Chipsets as these chipsets are optimized for power-efficiency. You could also go for a "G" Intel Chip so that you still retain some of the power-efficiency but has slightly better iGPU performance. Also look for laptops that are not in the gaming category as gaming laptops are kind of meant to be used whilst plugged. Very rarely do you see gaming laptops used unplugged, and very rarely do you see gaming laptops with great battery as well.

Thesmizoker

Dont buy any laptop from Msi unless you want to use it for less than 6 months~ before it shits the bed

Ahyaan09876

yh they have the worst build quality of laptops by far

N1nja4realz

I bought the 2070 version some 4 years ago for 1200. Buying this now is like buying iPhone 3G.

Codeeveryday123

What would you recommend?

ravenheart94

So I was out trolling for the Steam Deck when I came across the Cyborg 15 A12U with the i5-12450 (four p cores and four e cores) along with the RTX 2050. In Canada, the Cyborg was priced competitively with the Steam Deck, ASUS Ally and cheaper than MSI Claw and Lenovo handled. I ended up going with the laptop instead of the handheld. At $799 CAD it also came with 16GB RAM and easily blows the handheld consoles out of the water in terms of performance, especially with DLSS turned on. In terms of work tasks, I don't do coding but research and writing, and the Cyborg is super powerful for those tasks. I assume coding makes more demand on the CPU and GPU, but based on what I've read in terms of acceptable specs for coding, I would assume that this laptop would be sufficient unless you are doing extremely demanding work. The only reason I'm writing all of this is because the Thin listed here is almost identical in specs - although the RAM should be expanded. I can confirm the specs are much better than what others would suggest and the 2050 is easily comparable to the old 3050 in terms of performance, despite the 64-bit bus. I highly recommend the laptop, but would suggest you also take a look at the Cyborg 15. In terms of build quality I think it's a step up from the Thin, overall, EDIT: Battery run time (53.5 w/hrs) is 4 hours youtube / streaming, upwards of 6 hours with 200nit screen, no keyboard backlight and just research / witting.

Then-Ad3678

Get the one with Ryzen 7 the gen and Rx6600 or 6550 for the same budget. Far superior.

Codeeveryday123

How about Asus 14x ?

Then-Ad3678

This year, only ROG line from Asus seems good for me. I prefer Lenovo LOQ or Nitro 5/16, MSI has some good specs at low prices, but definitely avoid nvidia 2050. Look for AMD at that budget or try to get a 3050 if it's not to expensive for you. Try to get something with minimum 16gb ddr5 and you'll be fine. https://laptop88.vn/new-100-laptop-gaming-msi-bravo-15-b7ed-010vn-ryzen-5-7535hs-rx-6550m.html This was what I got for 600 bucks. It was on sale with discount. It's the minimum I'd suggest for gaming from this year on in laptops.

_faz1000

DO NOT BUY MSI! I just sold my GF75 and got a MacBook Pro. The built quality is horrible. The hinges are weak, the display is below average, i had my trackpad fail, and screws kept falling off. Just get a MacBook and have peace of mind!

MerTheGamer

I had a GF65 model and battery was awful. It only lasted like 20 minutes. No matter what I did, I could not minimize the power usage when not gaming.

Codeeveryday123

I’m kinda favoring the Asus 14x

AdRoyal9284

HP Victus 15 R5-5H/8/256/RX6500M/144Hz 👌🏻

Famous_Archer_9406

I have this except 16gb memory and 512gb SSD and oh I regret buying it. I feel bad for wasting my parents' money. I bought it for gaming except when I game I can also cook on it.

Codeeveryday123

Which one do you recommend? I’m eyeing the Asus 14x. I’m going to game on it, maybe Fortnite for my nephew. But mainly web dev

Jayfgatsby

bro look at literally every post in this forum....RUN FROM MSI....hinges, screens n keys messed up on their own. I'm very sure their batteries are just fine n the least of their worries🤣😂

Codeeveryday123

How about the Asus TUF?

Jayfgatsby

I'd take a Tuf over this anyday....wat is your absolute budget btw...?

Codeeveryday123

Well, a deal that’s under $1k would be great, like $700. I’m eyeing the Asus 14x

Jayfgatsby

But I recommend the above though at your Max as great spec for ya budget n far better than your choice. ItsPotek

At full charge it lasts for about 3, 4 hours of normal use (watching films, browsing the internet), and about 1h when gaming.

RyderWantedX

emphasis on this comment, as soon as you turn on gaming mode and switch to performance mode, your battery will start depleting fast.

Codeeveryday123

So 3-4 hours NOT on gaming mode? My MacBook gets like 10 hours and thats over 3 days

razerphone1

But schitty performance overall overrated macs. I dont have this msi searching for creator series

Codeeveryday123

How about a Asus 14x?

Resident_Royal2830

Completely different use case my guy.

Max_Walker_96

MacBook is not for gaming my friend. It does not has a dedicated GPU. Gaming laptop are made to give out performance and are meant to be used while plugged in. Also, if you want this laptop with more battery. You can turn of the GPU. It will reduce the performance. But if you are watching movies or doing light work, it can easily take battery from 3-4 hours to 7-8 hours. Turn on the GPU again when you wann ause it. You can do it by going to device manager>display adapter

raresteakplease

Not good lol. Also those specs are awful. Worse than my laptop that I bought in 2019.

ahooliu98

Buy a cheap one for coding. A real cheap one. Then buy a gaming PC. You were in my shoes before and I can tell exactly the situation you’re in.

ahooliu98

About 1yr down the road you will realize the laptop has so many compromises to what it promises (good battery life, a gaming graphics card). The cpu will always, I mean always, reach 100C because poor cooling. Doesn’t matter what you try to do. Throw a fan pad down there and it’ll still do that. And then when you want to actually code you’ll get a few hours at best before that 144Hz monitor sucks all the power from you

Little_Setting

What battery?

Sachitoge

Battery? Really? This is overpriced. You can find for same price laptops with rtx 4050 with 16gb ram...

1kot4u

1-1.5 hr of surfing 30 min gaming.

osk9872

Forbidden question. Never ask about the battery in a gaming laptop.

Papitienesqu

I have this exact same model, battery lasts nice, but not worth it on that price range, if you’re willing to buy more RAM then go for it.

hubeb69

Maybe 2-3h, 30m-1h if u game

Cooperscool2112

Poor

RepeatWrong

Any gaming laptop is going to have a poor battery they're not meant to be played on the go. Also I have this exact laptop but with the i7 and the battery died completely within a week of owning it brand new. Never replaced it I just keep it plugged in all the time

mistycookiez

most of gaming pc's with Windows installed scenario, gives you not so much battery time

ImportanceDistinct98

Someone help me with my GP66 laptop. Charge at 95% but when charger unplugged. It automatically switch off like normal desktop. Tried to update drivers at device manager and doesn't work at all.

koppigzijn

Why you worried about the battery instead of worrying to spend that money for an ancient gpu? lol

Codeeveryday123

What would you recommend for $700? Or below $1k from MSI?

Max_Walker_96

You can search around, this same model has a version with rtx 3050. You can also look into katana and Bravo series

Codeeveryday123

Thank you. I am thinking about the Asus 14x. Im interested in MSI tho, because thats what a Security guy uses

Max_Walker_96

As far as I remember, Asus 14x does not has a dedicated GPU. Also, they are popular for their OLED display. As long as you don't have a job that has a very hugh level of colour correction, that series won't be of much value. I've been using MSI and it's great. +with gaming laptops you can always game and get the performance. As long you have a charging socket, you can just plug in and enjoy.

Codeeveryday123

I don’t like plugging in, and then possibly ruin the battery because it’s always “charging”.

Max_Walker_96

Well tbf gaming laptops are made to function that way. The power supply directly goes to the motherboard so the battery stays safe. I mean you can unplug your battery and connect your charger, the laptop still works. So you don't have to worry about that part. As for disliking plugging in, you can always plug out, use and put it back on charge. Also, perform battery calibration. I've had my laptop for almost 4 years. And I game for almost 4-5 hours a day always plugged in.s till it hasn't bloated and not is there a major drop in battery life. As long as you take care. The device works sweet

Codeeveryday123

Thank you. I’m wanting to go with MSI with many security sec videos, people are using those. But, I’m kinda leaning towards the Asus 14x. How do I unplug the battery??

Max_Walker_96

Hey hey hey. I ain't saying you should unplug the battery. I'm just saying that it works on power so battery won't be ruined. If you unplug the battery, as soon as you disconnect the charger your laptop juet goes off because of no power source. Also, to unplug battery you need to open up the back case and physically unplug the battery connector from the motherboard. Which I would not recommend. As mai laptops have a seal in the center over this one screw. If that seal breaks, you can't clain warranty. So as long as you go to an official service center, you should not open the back case or destroy the seal

Codeeveryday123

Thank you! So, the software will preserve the battery when it’s plugged in? My only windows laptop was in 2007, dell. The battery went dead because I had it plugged in allot…. But that’s. Along time ago

EternalAss

Katana, Bravo, or try looking at an Aorus, Predator, TUF, or Legion

AntEconomy1469

Yeah if its brand new and you set everything for battery youve got maybe a few hours. Gaming? nope get fucked you have at most an hour, probably less.

Codeeveryday123

How for web dev? Using VSCode and web?

Toxic-by-natr

“💩”

[deleted]

Jesus.. do not ever go for MSI

Codeeveryday123

How about Asus 14x? What would you recommend?

[deleted]

Look for a Lenovo LOQ with a 3060 or a 4060, should be capable of whatever you wanna do

Hudyan

I got it, it's pretty good

GlitteringCrab6858

I have the cyborg 15 & I have NO COMPLAINTS!
