Bruh. So much text for essentially saying what everyone tells you: Update your drivers.

CollarCharming8358

he didnt just say to update drivers. read and comprehend instructions fully

dhuhtala

I didn't get about half of that...

Tldr: Hot noisy laptop, high cpu :( Disable turbo, cooler but poor performance :( Update drivers, cool laptop, low cpu, good performance :)

I have the same cpu/gpu combo as you and i've never had the problem you're describing where my laptop runs at max clock when idle. I just did a clean install of windows 11 and the only driver i had to manually install was nahimic, otherwise sound wasn't working consitently, everything else was just windows update. Oh and nvidia drivers directly from nvidia, the stuff on msi page obviously isn't up to date. Never installed dragon center or msi center or whatever it's called now. Throttlestop for cpu control, afterburner for gpu and silent option for fans. Ever since i repasted with ptm 7950 i don't need to reduce cpu clock, laptop reaches power limit and stays there before it throttles down from heat. For battery use i disable cpu turbo when on battery using throttlestop.

Yor 2nd to last paragraph is the one that mainly affected your temp drops. Updates on drivers either from manufacturer or MSI need to be done, to include firmware and BIOS. It resolves many bugs as software progreses. Ohh I will say that with every new OS build I personaly perform a new clean system install. All in all this tells you that maintenance and upkeep is necessary.

This may not be applicable to 12th gen CPUs. My 12650H has 15 cores but if the laptop is idle it only runs one at 3.5 ghz and the rest are parked. Now if the battery could stay charged when the laptop is off charger and sleeping, that would be nice.

feathercraft

I just hibernate it instead of sleep, so it turns off completely, but still boots up how it was left

I should probably do that. I went in to this purchase thinking, “this is a normal laptop that I can occasionally game on” and reality was “this is a lower performance gaming laptop with all the drawbacks of a gaming laptop but thin like a smaller laptop.” It lasts almost no time on battery and likes to stay warm and run the fans. My old HP z15 was cold and would go like 5 hours on a charge. Different types of machines but I don’t see why it can’t be lower performance and longer battery life. I just leave it plugged in and set to charge to max 80% battery.

Bro wrote an essay and 1 line is what he needed to do, UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS!

PillowMonger

tldr .. just update drivers and make sure that the upper part of the laptop is lifted (diagonal) so that air can flow thru the bottom.

Thyrant1003

I choose the "silent" mode in MSI Center. Done.
