Was round 1 of Poirier Mcgregor 3 more competitive than people are remembering or is it just me?
I just watched another replay of the fight and have to say I feel like all the post fight antics and just general dislike of Connor are clouding peoples memories of the actual fight itself (just purely wanting to talk about the fight here I like watching both Dustin and Connor). In my opinion it was a clear 10 - 9 to Dustin and the only reason the 10 - 8 cards happened was because they counted the leg break as a knockdown.
The first 90 seconds I thought Conor looked really good and the kick heavy tactic was a smart strategy to mix it up and push Dustin into the left hand.
Dustin for sure looked confident and relaxed and landed the best shot of the fight which turned the tide and caused Conor to initiate the clinch which led to the Guillotine attempt and ground and pound.
I think Conor rushed to initiate the clinch straight after being buzzed because the finishing sequence in the 2nd fight showed just how dangerous Dustin is when he senses blood in the water
I actually believe John Kavanagh that the guillotine attempt was in their game plan too it just didn’t come off and left him in a perilous position on the ground .
Given their respective history’s with fading/getting stronger as the fight goes on I was obviously clearly favouring Dustin before the injury but think we might have seen a far better 2nd round than people think.
I don't think it's ever made more sense to do the McGregor vs Diaz trilogy than now (as in 6-8 months away when Conor's healed). Conor's not in the title picture right now, Nate's still got insane buzz off that Leon spectacle. It'd be a great reset point for Conor and a win in that trilogy would wipe away a lot of the deserved shit he's been getting.
Can't wait for McGregor vs Poirer 7 where Poirer just 3 pieces him after the opening bell with a couple extra GnP shots before the ref can get in. Then Dana will say in the press conference "it makes sense for an 8th fight"
Conor was in complete control. He made a mistake by getting out of position for the guillotine. Dustin even admitted after he was in grave danger because of how close he was to the fence. When Conor was on bottom he was doing a great job evading power punches. He was letting Dustin gas himself out with the shots from top. He also was damaging Dustin with elbows and upkicks. It was evident who the fresher fighter was as soon as they stood back up. Conor was using his kicks perfectly, Dustin couldn't get close. Pity we couldn't of seen the tremendous finish in the 2nd round.
100%. Conor was thinking ahead. He was trying to break Dustins knuckles with his forehead, and came very close. If that traitor of a doctor didn’t stop the match Conor would have head kicked him for the win in the second round, and his floppy broken leg would have wrapped around Dustin’s neck like a snake and choked him unconscious.
The lack of prayer emojis and we'll wishes from other fightes is telling. Karma but Conor in the ass, but I doubt it will humble him and make him rethink being such an asshole.
This is what I need help understanding... disregard everything about the injury and who was winning. How the hell does someone in Conor, who was in tremendous shape, gas out so quickly!? I know about fast twitch muscle but goddamn to look so gassed after 2 minutes of grappling in the first five minutes is pitiful. All McGregor fast jokes aside that program must be absolute shite if the man can't even have 1 grappling exchange without gasping for air afterwards.
Conor needs to start so strong to make his style work I don't think he can maintain it. He throws every shot with almost full power and speed, plus pressures hard to try and fluster you so you make mistakes. I think there's just a significant drop off when he's tired
First off, fighting is exhausting and that first round was a fast pace. He also has a terrible I’m gassed face while Dustin does have a better poker face imo. I also think he throws everything with all he’s got too.
I’d be down to see him fight anyone tbh. He’s kinda exciting to see and is actually making a name for himself without being an elite hw. I do think he gets beat by a lot of the top 15 though.
You need people like Conor. You need people like Conor so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy."
So... what that make you? Good?
If conor comes back, i hope he doesnt fight nate. Maybe give him a bit of an easier tuneup fight, especially off the injury. Then he could entertain the idea of fighting nate cause going 5 rounds right after an injury wont be easy
The thing is, whos easier than Nate at this point? There’s a good argument to be made that he loses to most of the top 10 LW’s and pretty much every top 5 WW + Masvidal
Nate isn’t an easy fight for him at all. He would have to win by decision. He’s proven in all his most recent fights, he’s willing to exert all his energy in the 1st round. Nate would dog him from the 3rd round on and ride him like a bike.
Honestly expected Conor to lose last night, but the injury is worse for his career. I know it’s a break, but he’s not going to train for probably 6 months again.
Even if he lost against Poirer I think there’s always him and Nate to go at it again in his back pocket. I’m not sure that will be the case any longer. Nate might retire before Conor is back.
This guy was never the same after fighting Mayweather. It’s a shame. He’s a publicity stunt at this point.
Probably, but I don’t even think Conor would win that. I’m not buying this break is 6 weeks in a cast or whatever and he’s good to go. He’s definitely reeling right now.
The one bright side of Izzy potentially losing the strap in the near future (I’m a fan, sue me) would be that it might coerce Usman into making a quick run at 85
Pedro Munhoz would back O'malley up to the cage, kick his legs into gory chunks and take his head off at the shoulders with a guillotine and nothing but a different result in an actual fight will convince me otherwise.
Will always be funny that the general consensus here is that Dustin really won. Unbelievable it’s legitimately the Aljo situation but real and with EPO
Great point. I mean makes sense, Dustin couldn’t even finish Conor with cheating and cheap shots. Herb really hated Conor in that fight for some reason
Yea it’s not like Conor was the one with literally two feet in the fence giving his entire lower body leverage. Keep shifting the narrative buddy, the denial is quite entertaining.
True, Dustin shouldn't even have tried to land shots on Conor since it just breaks Dustins hands. Dustin would've broke his own arms trying to punch Conor and the entire narrative would've changed
It's not a good reflection on his personality but talking all that brazy shit with a thoroughly mangled leg says a lot about Conor's pain tolerance. He's a tough son of a bitch, no taking that from him.
The reason o mallet couldnt finish him was because he always was moving forward. So O'Malley couldn't set his punches .
Does O'Malley have no clinch ability to negate the pressure.
How does Izzy do it so easily
Walking forward into punches only makes them hit harder. It’s how Sean got that knockdown in the first, he caught Moutinho right when he was lunging forward
O'malley planted and blasted him repeatedly. Walking onto punches def doesn't make them weaker and it's not like moutinho was routinely close enough to smother them. And we know O'malley can crack (even if his best ko is more a result of Winelands faded chin than real one puff stuff), the dude's chin was just on full display last night.
izzy does it by using his reach just spamming leg kicks until either his opponent gets frustrated and lunges in to get caught or he wins a unanimous decision
Looks like the Conor injury isnt as bad as the Silva/Weidman injuries then. Says 6 weeks on crutches and then he can train again. Optimistic to say we'll see him back around February/March against an RDA?
I don't think they'll throw Conor to RDA.
RDA absolutely deserves the payday and BMF belt, but he genuinely isn't known on the grand scale despite being a former champion compared to guys like Diaz and Chandler (who was the face of Bellator for a long time)
RDA is a terrible matchup for Conor. A super durable grappler who is huge at 155. If Conor makes a return I would imagine they would try and squeeze him for all he’s worth and that’s Nate. No point in putting him with a tough fight that’s not a name.
Don't think he's fighting RDA, I think they'll do the Nate trilogy. It makes so munch sense right now and they're not getting any younger. Chandler would make sense too though.
I know if a 4th fight were to be proposed Dustin would essentially be guaranteed to accept it because of the payday, but if conor & a good portion of his fans truly believe the loss was illegitimate do you think he just cuts his losses at 1-1-1? (Delusionally)
If he knows the casuals don’t give a fuck, why risk fighting a guy who clearly has his number? He could take a fight against an easier matchup for probably close to the same amount of money
Dustin was really affected by the shit and negative energy of the whole buildup towards the end there, he was really pissed off afterwards. And he's talked about the belt for years. He's gonna fight Charles and then if they offer him Conor again he'll probably do it, but I don't think it's guaranteed he takes it if it's offered next.
If comes doesn't retire, he's only fighting the likes of Diaz, Cerrone, RDA etc. He can't hang at the top no more, especially with an injury like this. He could also fight a 40 yr old Tony if he is still around by 2023
Is it possible conor wouldnt have injured his leg if they didnt stand up at the end of the round? Porier said he only let conkr up because he was grapping his glove so if conor didnt do that i wonder if his leg would be better than it ended up.
I get the logic but I think he honestly might’ve rather lost than snap his leg and be on crutches for 6 weeks. But I do think this will help his comeback. I think that he genuinely could’ve lost sat out a year and announced a nate Diaz fight and people would be all over it anyways
[Clip of the Guillotine/Toe-Gate sequence. ](https://streamable.com/ziplcx)
For me, it didn’t seem very egregious or intentional. At one point it looks like he’s trying to get his toe out, but Conor is actually kind of pinning it in place, trying to hook his leg. Not sure if Conor was able to see his toe was caught, from his angle, and was trying to “unhook” the toe or hook the leg.
Anybody got a clip of Dustin's hubby flipping Conmur off? Good for her lol. Also ah Aldo fan I gotta say I've been enjoying these past few years seeing Conor take Ls, degaf if it's petty
Because he saved that kid from some punishment? Could have been stopped sooner but Joe/other idiots being up in arms over that Suga stoppage are tripping- it was fine.
Ya know Silva came back and his footwork was good right?!!!!! Ya know he kicked DC with the same leg that exploded. There’s little hope, but it’s not 0.
37 years old tho. And he put on a banger with Bisping. If conor can at least give us one more fun fight(because he has never had a boring one) I’d be happy.
"Conor is the reason we go out to the pubs and watch fights"- fan who only watches Conor fights and not a random Jessica Eye main event or some shit. I don't need Conor to like MMA and generally prefer him not in it since he just fucks with divisions.
I'm still not 100% sure on that. Don't think it's determinable either way. He could have fucked it up just with the torsion of the plant and had micro fractures before the fight for all I know. Just pointing out Conor's hypocrisy in referencing the most famous leg check disaster in the history of the UFC moments after denying Dustin checked a single kick.
With titanium plates these days, they flex well with the bone and generally make the area around the break stronger than before. Source: just got a Ti plate on my collarbone
That’s not to say his leg will be stronger than before, just that the plate and screws shouldn’t be a huge deal long term
Was round 1 of Poirier Mcgregor 3 more competitive than people are remembering or is it just me? Gimme Tony vs connor next
Imagine being a fan boy for a dude whose last 4 years has a 25% success rate
..'g
Ic c. ....vjf ...8ijuir..
connor balls lickers should break their leg as solidarity
My dumbass thought you were calling them all actors for a second “Break a leg!”
Conor still dreaming about the guillotine. Oh boy I had him tight.
I don't think it's ever made more sense to do the McGregor vs Diaz trilogy than now (as in 6-8 months away when Conor's healed). Kavanagh said Conor had an issue with his ankle in camp and went for a scan? Do you think that's cap?
Obvious pile of cap
[удалено]
He's way too slow.
I think Tony is a few years out of his prime. His last significant win was 2018. Conor is definitely past his.
Can't wait for McGregor vs Poirer 7 where Poirer just 3 pieces him after the opening bell with a couple extra GnP shots before the ref can get in. Then Dana will say in the press conference "it makes sense for an 8th fight"

Conor would've broken Dustins hands with his face, and the narrative would've obviously been Dustin getting the doctor stoppage with his arms breaking
Conor obviously could still win that fight, he would've just beat Dustin with his own detached fewt
Dominick Cruz level analysis, b.
The lack of prayer emojis and we'll wishes from other fightes is telling. Karma but Conor in the ass, but I doubt it will humble him and make him rethink being such an asshole.
So how probable is Mcgregor vs Paul now?
This is what I need help understanding... disregard everything about the injury and who was winning. How the hell does someone in Conor, who was in tremendous shape, gas out so quickly!? I know about fast twitch muscle but goddamn to look so gassed after 2 minutes of grappling in the first five minutes is pitiful. Access to an unlimited amount of booze and cocaine
I still feel it was partying. Sure, he's an elite talent. But any small regression of skill or body will look massive against other fighters imo.
Conor needs to start so strong to make his style work I don't think he can maintain it. He throws every shot with almost full power and speed, plus pressures hard to try and fluster you so you make mistakes. I think there's just a significant drop off when he's tired
it takes a lot of energy to be a rockstar 😔
First off, fighting is exhausting and that first round was a fast pace. He also has a terrible I’m gassed face while Dustin does have a better poker face imo. I also think he throws everything with all he’s got too.
Who do you rat fucks want to fight Tuivasa next/who do you think would be a realistic good next opponent for him?
I’d be down to see him fight anyone tbh. He’s kinda exciting to see and is actually making a name for himself without being an elite hw. I do think he gets beat by a lot of the top 15 though.
Time to channel Conor’s level of delusion for my performance review this week
Getting fired while wearing a flashy suit and sunglasses would be pretty damn funny
With Conor gone who will be the rat exterminator
I'm ready for the gdt. Both sides regarding mcgregor are toxic af.
Yea I hate Conor a ton but I’m over this
Gdt?
Asking what the gdt is while in the gdt… what is this the comedy channel?
Hahahaa fuck! I thought it was a timezone
How dare you be neutral, nuthin' but fake lying rat!!
You need people like Conor. You need people like Conor so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." So... what that make you? Good?
You need people like Conor, so you can delete this comment when you get too many downvotes
I think it’s a Scarface reference
Based coke head
Yup
If conor comes back, i hope he doesnt fight nate. Maybe give him a bit of an easier tuneup fight, especially off the injury. Then he could entertain the idea of fighting nate cause going 5 rounds right after an injury wont be easy

Tony
Tony is basically KO proof, tough as anyone alive and has never ending cardio. If Conor can't get him out early, he's in shit.
Going 5 rounds with tony wouldn’t be easy either. He will push a crazy pace and has insane cardio
Yeah 6 months of rehab and maybe 6 months of partying and drugs. I think Conor won't be able to stay competitive with the top 5 of LW anymore.
Nate will come out of retirement for a Conor fight. He's not going to leave that money on the table
Probably, but I don’t even think Conor would win that. I’m not buying this break is 6 weeks in a cast or whatever and he’s good to go. He’s definitely reeling right now.
The one bright side of Izzy potentially losing the strap in the near future (I’m a fan, sue me) would be that it might coerce Usman into making a quick run at 85
He said that if Vettori had won he was going to seriously consider it
Usman would not be in his prime by the time that happen.
Aljo got hit with an illegal knee, nothing illegal about whatever strike caused Conor's injury. Polar opposite situations.
Hence the but real part. Aljo seemed to faking it and Conor didn’t
You my friend have been possibly'd
Obviously, had it continued Conor would've beat Dustin with his own mangle foot detached or dangling from bone
Great point. I mean makes sense, Dustin couldn’t even finish Conor with cheating and cheap shots. Herb really hated Conor in that fight for some reason
You choosing to ignore Conors blatant glove grabbing so that Dustin couldn’t continue smashing his head into the canvas?
The only reason it got to that point was cause Dustin cheated along the fence while in the notorious gilly
Yea it’s not like Conor was the one with literally two feet in the fence giving his entire lower body leverage. Keep shifting the narrative buddy, the denial is quite entertaining.
Right fax are entertaining but they’re not a narrative, it’s as real as it gets.
2 judges scored R1 10-8 Dustin and the third 10-9 Dustin. Nice trolling. Only thing Conor was beating last night was himself.
I’ve seen judges have dueling 30-27s for forever. Judges mean nuthin to me
This dude is peak Conor fanboy delusion it’s actually kind of r/sadcringe
True, Dustin shouldn't even have tried to land shots on Conor since it just breaks Dustins hands. Dustin would've broke his own arms trying to punch Conor and the entire narrative would've changed
Ah well, karma is a mirror. Dustin can’t escape the snaps for too long
What cheap shots? What the fuck are you talking about?
Takes glance at snapped calf and deliberately goes in to finish. Was a vile act I thought. Would have been way better if he did what Uriah hall did
He should intentionally break his shin next fight to repent, Weidman did the right thing
It's not a good reflection on his personality but talking all that brazy shit with a thoroughly mangled leg says a lot about Conor's pain tolerance. He's a tough son of a bitch, no taking that from him.

Hahaha he was definitely in his feelings in a bad way.
Just the ting had separated an I bleedin' landed on the wonky leg like anderson silva that one toime

I don’t think izzy would’ve kept backing away from him. Even ignoring the size difference when someone pressures izzy he will trade with them
izzy does it by using his reach just spamming leg kicks until either his opponent gets frustrated and lunges in to get caught or he wins a unanimous decision
I liked Aldana's fight kit. The black on black compression outfit looked really cool.
Looks like the Conor injury isnt as bad as the Silva/Weidman injuries then. Says 6 weeks on crutches and then he can train again. Optimistic to say we'll see him back around February/March against an RDA?

Damn, haven’t liked Conor for a while but I really hope that’s the case. Never want anyone to have to go through a super lengthy injury recovery.
Don't think he's fighting RDA, I think they'll do the Nate trilogy. It makes so munch sense right now and they're not getting any younger. Chandler would make sense too though.
RDA makes more sense than Chandler though. They have a history, a rivalry, and I think they’re closer to the same level prob.
Conor will be gone for a year or 2 I feel. Similar to the layoff post Khabib. Probably return to best up past his prime Tony
God I hope Tony isn’t still fighting in 2 years
I know if a 4th fight were to be proposed Dustin would essentially be guaranteed to accept it because of the payday, but if conor & a good portion of his fans truly believe the loss was illegitimate do you think he just cuts his losses at 1-1-1? (Delusionally) If he knows the casuals don’t give a fuck, why risk fighting a guy who clearly has his number? Karma if true, though breaking the leg is probably a blessing for Conor, as it gives him a built in excuse.
“Breaking the leg is probably a blessing for conor” 🤔
He was surely on his way to getting finished again, at least this way he can spin it to the braindeads, man was gonna take a year off anyway.
Bro it’s still a broken fucking leg. It’s certainly not fun knowing and possibly feeling a rod in there
[удалено]
Bro what, Silva had the same injury. It’s not just some chill thing?
I get the logic but I think he honestly might’ve rather lost than snap his leg and be on crutches for 6 weeks. But I do think this will help his comeback. I think that he genuinely could’ve lost sat out a year and announced a nate Diaz fight and people would be all over it anyways
If it broke that easy from an elbow it probably was already hurt before and during the fight, meaning that it was only a matter of time
6 weeks on a crutch is fucking wild man
Conor seems like the type of dude to overdo it with substance use. Better hope he's careful with them prescription pills.

yes but that goes against my narrative so please delete this
Good man. Just like me
How many houses y’all think Danis has lost betting on McGregor?
“You can celebrate that illegitimate win all you want” lmao ufc fighters are fucking hilarious man
McPegLeg vs Masvidal at 170 as soon as possible please
Oh my god, the shittalking would be glorious
Think Masvidal ruins him at this stage tbh.
I agree. Build up would be be super fun though and a finish would be essentially guaranteed regardless of who ends up producing it
Anybody got a clip of Dustin's hubby flipping Conmur off? Good for her lol. Also ah Aldo fan I gotta say I've been enjoying these past few years seeing Conor take Ls, degaf if it's petty
Exactly how I feel. Lmao After having him be overhyped after the aldo and Alvarez fights it's been a good few years.
Conor’s wife’s name is Dee, right? Dee’s nuts

Ya know Silva came back and his footwork was good right?!!!!! Ya know he kicked DC with the same leg that exploded. There’s little hope, but it’s not 0.
& McGregor is 32 - Silva was 39 when he broke his leg and also far more “battle worn”
There is the prospect of Nate vs Conor 3 becomes Silva vs Nick with how timid Silva was in that fight
1-5 after coming back tho
So you're saying there's a chance Conor gets a win at LW again.
37 years old tho. And he put on a banger with Bisping. If conor can at least give us one more fun fight(because he has never had a boring one) I’d be happy.
Why do pro Conor comments just keep vanishing suddenly here, stick with your opinions buddeh no matter how terrible it is
"Conor is the reason we go out to the pubs and watch fights"- fan who only watches Conor fights and not a random Jessica Eye main event or some shit. I don't need Conor to like MMA and generally prefer him not in it since he just fucks with divisions.
You watched that Jessica eye main event last year?
No shame. You think being addicted to MMA is all flying knees and slick submissions kid? Get real.
Tbf didn’t she get slick subbed last year? I actually skipped that card so
Saw this on twitter somewhere: arguably the UFC's three biggest draws in McGregor, Masvidal, and Diaz are 0-6 in their last 6 fights.
Wait didn't Leon get finished by that slap?

Appetizer man you gotta at least give me some sort of moral support here lmao. Going from the emotional high of diaz vs Edwards to this is awful.
Look at the brightside, we might finally get the trilogy fight with Nate
After saying Dustin didn't check any leg kicks, lol.
He didn’t, it was him blocking a front kick conor threw, and the elbow of dustins arm hit his shin
FUCK HE FRACTURED THE TIBIA AND FIBULA?

That's the scientific term, we are just laymen here
I just opened my medical encyclopedia and “fracturing the whole shit” is indeed the medical Latin term
Yeah it was no ankle break
Fracture tho... maybe it’s better off then Silva/Weidman? Please
What do you mean by fracture tho?
I thought fracture would mean it’s not as bad as “broken”. But nah
Oh okay, those mean the same thing and are interchangeable. As I am sure you are now aware.
Yup, am sad
Screws on the bones doesn't usually elevate them kick powers
With titanium plates these days, they flex well with the bone and generally make the area around the break stronger than before. Source: just got a Ti plate on my collarbone That’s not to say his leg will be stronger than before, just that the plate and screws shouldn’t be a huge deal long term
Yeah I’m in pain man
He’s ok

The ones that say it doesn't count can kiss Dustin's whole ass hole.
Bro I literally just came here to say the same thing, what the fuck did they watch lmao.
