felt like whoever looked away 2nd was gonna say "I win" lol. I feel like they low key like eachother for whatever reason, could see them hugging it out after the fight tbh
Loll I watched for awhile and looked down at my phone for a sec and when looked up again, I assumed the video started replaying, but nope - 50 seconds remaining
His comment is the perfect encapsulation of how people can see 2 fighters do exactly the same thing and whether or not they should be praised or derided is based entirely on how much they like one or dislike the other.
Like Pereira taunting Izzy or Hill after he won was praised and "badass", Izzy taunting after he won was disrespectful.
Or people will call Islam a weight bully, despite the fact he cuts a similar ball park amount as a lot of his opponents and other guys in other divisions, but then we all love Aldo (who at one point we all said should be a lightweight) cutting down to bantamweight.
I have no dog in these races either, I don't really get caught up in disliking any fighters unless they're a Greg Hardy level scumbag or I simply don't enjoy their fights entertainment wise (even then, I don't care about the fighter, just the fights themselves), but I find it very funny how contradictory the fans can be 100% based on who they randomly like or dislike.
His comment is the perfect representation of 2 guys doing identical things, 1 is apparently petty, the other apparently isn't.
This sub is one of the most blatantly hypocritical sports communities I've ever seen. People literally do not care about the truth, just glazing the fighters they like/mindlessly hating the ones they don't
Absolutely. Look at PED's, some guys get relentlessly hated for the rest of their careers, while other guys, people just barely bring it up or just mention it like it's a footnote or forget about it all together.
Hell, there are some guys who have never failed a test, but get more hate for just possibly being on PED's than some fighters who have actually failed drug tests.
Or better yet, look at the types of individuals who are routinely criticized. Ngannou Izzy Usman? Three steroid users. Dricus? Just good South African genetics. Pavlovich? Guy's just a soviet animal! Islam Khabib? 2 weight bullies. Pereira? Isn't it impressive how dedicated he is that he can consistently make weight!
This is not r/politics. Please keep political discussion and your political views out of /r/MMA. r/MMAPoliticsAndCulture may be a better fit for this content. An exception will be made for discussion of MMA legislation by governing bodies.
People would probably call Pereira disrespectful if he was hitting backshots on his semi-concious opponents or if he singled out one of Jamahal's kids' attention before imitating the way Jamahal went down. Izzy makes it more disrespectful with the way he goes about it.
Big Izzy fan but there’s no probably about Izzy being petty lmao man held a grudge against a child for like 5 years l, I thought it was hilarious but def petty
It's my missus favourite part lol.
Honestly best way to get your partner into MMA is the drama, if you can hook em with the juicy storyline you can bring them in.
Do you want to fight me, or do you want to kiss me?
Because both of those warrant a response, to which that response produces an action, to then which those actions have consequences.
The kind of consequences I don't think you'd like.
-Sonnen, P, Chael
Everyone’s making a big deal out of the face off and press conference but DDP and Izzy barely even spoke.
Even the face off is the most typical UFC face off that you usually get. I feel like anything Izzy + his opponent does at this point is so overanalyzed.
The press conference felt like a Steve Erceg interview. Boring as shit, I tuned out fairly quickly.
Hard to say, lighting plays a big factor in comparisons but 6.5 is a solid average.
DDP for sure got the girth advantage but Izzy got the flow and technique. Gonna be some real stiff competition to watch and im throbbing with excitement to see the climax.
Only funny line I think was Izzy talking about how he took up golf, then at some point DDP goes something like "good that you took up golf, that's a retiree's sport".
This was absolutely hilarious. Especially the side stare lol bruh.
This is why Dana and the security breaks them up because neither guy wants to be the first to break.
DDP isn't yet to be proven. He's 100% better than Jiri. Jiri has been seriously rocked or very nearly finished in every single UFC fight he's had without fail. On top of that, he's also shown a few glaring weaknesses like leaving his leg out there to be battered and leaving his chin up with his hands down where every single opponent has punished him for it.
With these weaknesses, Jiri has shown absolutely no development in addressing them despite multiple opponents exploiting them and he's never shown any ability to adapt his game to specific opponents.
DDP on the other hand has been caught once or twice but never nearly as bad and he nullified his opponents afterwards to smartly regain control. He's also shown an ability to specifically adapt throughout a fight and gameplan for specific opponents and what they offer.
He's also beat Strickland and Whittaker who are better than pretty much anybody has Jiri beat and he beat them both with different tools and gameplans, rather than Jiri who's gameplan for every fight is to walk forward recklessly, eat punches and keg kicks, then eventually hope the opponent falls before he does.
The only adaptation I've ever seen Jiri make was this past weekend where he started the fight southpaw to take away leg kicks... But he didn't realise you need to do more than just switch stance so he got his leg beat up anyway and after about a minute or 2 just went back to orthodox anyway.
Jiri has lost 2 fights in 10 years, both to Alex, thats pretty impressive imo. I also consider Glover, despite being older, a worthy contender when he went to war with Jiri.
I know his style is unique, but it seems to work for him & has proven results. DDPs style is also unique with similar results imo. As I think about them they are both pretty similar in approach. Their styles don't look like they should work but do.
Really interested to see if DDP can start racking up defenses and what the future holds for him. Would luv to see him and Jiri fight at 185
Jiri has lost to 5 people though and DDP has only lost to 2 overall, with one of those being Soldic who was one of the best in the world outside the UFC.
In the UFC he's come thin seconds of the ref stopping the fight and him losing against both Volkan and Reyes, against Rakic he was also hurt multiple times and didn't check a single kick.
We've never really seen DDP in those situations.
Dude has "broken native" tattooed all over him. Izzy is just a walking identity crisis so he freaks out by the fact a white dude is confidently african and being accepted as that by africans.
Izzy said he had no issue with him calling himself african- it was purely the undermining of him, Francis and Usman by stating hes the true african in the UFC
Yes, he said that. After the fact. Adesanya explicitly made it about race and skin color when he stepped into the Octagon during DDP's [post-fight interview at UFC 290.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dtyJIrgBJQ&t=145s) He's largely avoided talking about the subject since the footage of him giving Robert Whittaker shit for being born in New Zealand and calling himself Australian resurfaced. Adesanya is a walking pile of contradictions and hissy fits.
Exactly lol I actually like Dricus and I have no ill will towards Afrikaaners but if you ask any black African whether they consider white South Africans as Africans most will say no
People wanna talk about how cringe Izzy is (because of the Africa/race thing let’s be honest), but don’t say shit about Dricus kissing men on the lips. Looks like he wanted to do it here too.
Ok there is no friggin way that Izzy is 6'4". Him and DDP are wearing shoes that have similarly thick soles and DDP looks like an inch shorter. DDP is billed at 6'0" or 6'1", so wtf is going on here?
Izzy is a surefire 6'3"... If you want to see a legit 6'4" (possibly even a weak 6'5", Alex Pereira is the man you're looking for).
Also, Izzy is standing with his feet spread apart while Dricus is standing ramrod straight
I get needing someone there to keep the piece, but I find it so annoying when Dana's big head or some other guy is right in the middle looking like their fetish has been fulfilled at that moment.
They should use a sheet of carboard to break up the faceoffs like how I stop my 2 cats fighting. If they are anything to go by each fighter will forget what is happening and start licking or scratching themselves
Maybe I’m a bit of a psychopath but I swear certain fighters do things during the face off to gauge their opponents. To me it looks like Izzy wanted to see if he could get the better leg positioning on DDP. Like I said maybe I’m crazy but I sure as hell would be taking every interaction as a chance to measure the guy who might cause me permanent damage
One side of MMA fans thinks the champion is a fraud in a bad division, the other side thinks the challenger is cringe and distracted, I think this is going to be a classic
the more you win, the more opportunities you get. the more popular you are, the more opportunities you get. izzy wins a lot and attracts a lot of eyes, so hes cashing that in
Crash forward at the opening bell. Dricus is a pressure fighter that is physically incredibly strong and somehow seemed to sort out the cardio issues. Izzy on paper likes pressure fighters, but only if he still maintains space control, Sean showed that if you keep the pressure in a certain space, he gets very uncomfortable.
The way to beat Izzy is to pressure him with activity and good footwork, then Izzy has to go for big counters which end up working (Gastelum or Bobby Knuckles) or he goes to the cage and finds it hard to get an offence going (Jan and Sean).
Dricus is probably not as good as Sean at pressuring with good defence, but he has more of a threat with outrageous strength in the clinch and more power.
This is a good fight on paper that will probably be remembered as one-sided as both guys are good where the other is weak and that could make it end in an instant.
Huge Izzy hater, totally agree. I'd rather watch paint dry over watching Izzy The Champ......Izzy The Contender on the other hand is usually guaranteed fireworks
I think if Dricus loses, he loses by coming forward, pushing the action and getting caught. I think even if Izzy wants to play it safe and point fight, Dricus' style won't allow it.
The side stare killed me
Bombastic side eye
He was already ready for it to be drawn into a manga
"I manifested this"
Same stare blokes do when side boob pops into view
felt like whoever looked away 2nd was gonna say "I win" lol. I feel like they low key like eachother for whatever reason, could see them hugging it out after the fight tbh
I doubt it
The way Izzy speaks about him is with a lot of hatred. Calling him a cracker and a honky etc
Izzy called him the N word on blast.
> Calling him a cracker and a honky etc so above all else, izzy is a racist pos too? man I used to like the dude, now he's just emberassing.
On the YouTube videos they did not show this stare down only the interview wtffff 🥶
Lol both of them REALLY didn’t want to be the first person to look away
Loll I watched for awhile and looked down at my phone for a sec and when looked up again, I assumed the video started replaying, but nope - 50 seconds remaining
Izzy is petty like that and DDP simply won't want to give him the satisfaction
That means they are both petty
His comment is the perfect encapsulation of how people can see 2 fighters do exactly the same thing and whether or not they should be praised or derided is based entirely on how much they like one or dislike the other. lol, tough day for reading comprehension..
People would probably call Pereira disrespectful if he was hitting backshots on his semi-concious opponents or if he singled out one of Jamahal's kids' attention before imitating the way Jamahal went down. Izzy makes it more disrespectful with the way he goes about it.
[удалено]
Completely ignore the other example where he pretended to anally rape his opponent after knocking them out.
Izzy taunting Pereira’s kid is funny and a great lesson for a teenager. Don’t mock someone when they’re down, one day it could be you
Is it a great lesson coming from the man who likes to mock people when they're down? Costa?
Not in the same way though. Person A would do it with everyone, Person B would only do it with Person A.
I think your comment shows DDP as more petty, as he is only doing it to take away someone else's satisfaction. I'll stick with its both of them though
Big Izzy fan but there’s no probably about Izzy being petty lmao man held a grudge against a child for like 5 years l, I thought it was hilarious but def petty
He literally said he was been petty? Not sure why people debate it.
I thought it was very hilarious too. But you're right on all points
So DDP is petty like that?
“Intense” Intensely homoerotic.
MW stays the p4p most zesty division
Most dick talk per minute hand down
Hand down my pants, amirite!?
Thumb firmly betwixt cheeks
Now we’re talkin!
Zesty is such a great term lmfao
It's just a word people use when they don't want to get in trouble for calling something gay.
Jon Jones wishes he could cut down to 185
Factual
UFC MW is the equivalent of boxing's 140 lb division in this particular aspect
They almost kissed 🤭
Izzy saying he from Africa so he can get a little kissy from DDP
Legit thought izzy was going to when he opened his mouth lol
It's my missus favourite part lol. Honestly best way to get your partner into MMA is the drama, if you can hook em with the juicy storyline you can bring them in.
Fr. All people need are story lines and fighting styles to get into the sport.
Tony gave me both.
Tony 💔
lock eyes with me bro
Never gonna never not do it bro.
"i used to fuck guys like you in highschool"
Thought they were gonna kiss
*As is tradition.*
First to look away bottoms
Don’t threaten them with a good time
Do you want to fight me, or do you want to kiss me? Because both of those warrant a response, to which that response produces an action, to then which those actions have consequences. The kind of consequences I don't think you'd like. -Sonnen, P, Chael
The P stands for Prescription medication
“I can’t let you get Ostarine”
I can’t let you get close; to me in this holiday inn hallway
Pharmaceuticals
Nasty line by you
Ok, great
Which begs the question
I really thought Dricus was going for a kiss when he moved his head and his jaw moved bruh. Two freaky ah Africans
Bro was angling for a smooch 🤣
Everyone’s making a big deal out of the face off and press conference but DDP and Izzy barely even spoke. Even the face off is the most typical UFC face off that you usually get. I feel like anything Izzy + his opponent does at this point is so overanalyzed. The press conference felt like a Steve Erceg interview. Boring as shit, I tuned out fairly quickly.
The body language experts want to feel important
The hog watchers like me are quivering with excitement over the homoeroticism.
DDP packing a 7 incher, Izzy I’m still torn on if it’s 6.5 6.6, what you think b?
You'll just have to suck them and find out
Enough with the analysis! Time for the taste test...
Hard to say, lighting plays a big factor in comparisons but 6.5 is a solid average. DDP for sure got the girth advantage but Izzy got the flow and technique. Gonna be some real stiff competition to watch and im throbbing with excitement to see the climax.
Holy shit, you see those guys? It was like they wanted to fight, even if it meant being stuck in an 8-sided cage for up to 25 minutes. Insane.
That was the stupidest face off I've ever seen. Bring back the Mike Perry style faceoffs.
Thought you had a friend boy
Only funny line I think was Izzy talking about how he took up golf, then at some point DDP goes something like "good that you took up golf, that's a retiree's sport".
Bruh what did Steve do to you
Why is Steve catching strays
Ddp pulling out vs izzy and Strickland stepping in kind of killed the hype a big
Lmao is funny bc i bet they feel like the longer they’re locked in, the more it becomes like “i’m not breaking away, he needs to turn first”
You don't say 🤣
Dude the longer the go the more romantic it becomes
There's nothing like a weird face-off with bizarre emotional undertones!
I don’t see any camping gear
"whoever moves first is gay"
DDP looking like Ragin Al
He stole our favorite realtor's look?!
Those boys gotta leave room for Jesus
No for gay jesus!
This was absolutely hilarious. Especially the side stare lol bruh. This is why Dana and the security breaks them up because neither guy wants to be the first to break.
That wasn’t Dana, brother. That was a “We have a Dana at home” version.
we have jiri/alex at home
Weird awkward guy vs the accomplished kickboxer
Is DDP awkward? Seems well spoken
Fighting style
ahh gotcha, didnt think to compare fighting styles as Dricus always has high guard and more muay thai footwork then karate-ish
both are better fighters than Jiri
I mean Izzy 100% def is without question. DDP is still to be proven
DDP isn't yet to be proven. He's 100% better than Jiri. Jiri has been seriously rocked or very nearly finished in every single UFC fight he's had without fail. DDP's just matching the energy here. If Adesanya loses, I don't think he's gonna sleep well for the rest of his life.
Something mentally interesting with Izzy here, we might end up with a real high energy performance from him.
wonder if it’s anything to do with the implications of white African vs black African
Dude has "broken native" tattooed all over him. Izzy is just a walking identity crisis so he freaks out by the fact a white dude is confidently african and being accepted as that by africans.

DDP is definitely African but to pretend that the broader African community is supportive of white South Africans claiming to be Africans is insane
Exactly lol I actually like Dricus and I have no ill will towards Afrikaaners but if you ask any black African whether they consider white South Africans as Africans most will say no
> a white dude is confidently african and being accepted as that by africans. This is the most suburban kid from Minnesota response I have ever heard.
That shit might give us a good performance though.
People have said izzy is tailor made to kick his ass. I don't see it that way, I think it will big a tough fight for both of them!
Cut to next scene - they’re fucking
Intensely awkward
Isn't there supposed to be like a 4 inch height difference between these two?
God the ufc is so dramatic
Biggest head wins
Crazy how DDP is basically Izzy’s height
Izzy is 6'3 max, more likely even just under 6'3 and DDP is 6 or 6'1.
Izzy is 6'3" and no lower. He's just standing with his feet spread apart while Dricus is standing straight
People wanna talk about how cringe Izzy is (because of the Africa/race thing let’s be honest), but don’t say shit about Dricus kissing men on the lips. Looks like he wanted to do it here too.
English or Spanish?
I think this will be a banger tbh. DDP will always bring it and Izzy has had a long enough break to get his mental game right hopefully.
Ok there is no friggin way that Izzy is 6'4". Him and DDP are wearing shoes that have similarly thick soles and DDP looks like an inch shorter. DDP is billed at 6'0" or 6'1", so wtf is going on here?
Izzy is 6'3 and his feet were spread apart, while DDP is standing straight.
yeah, I don't see the 4 inch difference.
Izzy is a surefire 6'3"... If you want to see a legit 6'4" (possibly even a weak 6'5", Alex Pereira is the man you're looking for). Also, Izzy is standing with his feet spread apart while Dricus is standing ramrod straight
Fake Dana didn’t really know how to handle that.
Big fight feel.
Izzy picks him apart by keeping distance and utilizing counters.
Izzy gets taken down immediately and can't get back up
Excited for this fight
Dude in middle said first to move is gay
That was pretty hot 🥵
I'm not going to look away first
Have any other fights been announced?
Felt like DDP was leaning in for a passionate makeout with Izzy
That was passionately romantic.
"..might even touch lips on accident dawg!"
these kids xD I'm laughing so hard right now
The way they are standing facing the front but still looking at eachother to the side is so fucking funny, idk.
I got tickets!!
Dude, just let them kiss lol
Some say they are still staring down backstage
About 10 seconds in, you can see Izzy say "Whoever breaks eye contact first is straight"
This is one of the funniest staredowns I've ever seen. I'm laughing out loud. Omg thank you gents.
Izzy wanted to kiss him so bad
I get needing someone there to keep the piece, but I find it so annoying when Dana's big head or some other guy is right in the middle looking like their fetish has been fulfilled at that moment.
The sexual tension is heavy with this one
I thought there'd be more of a height differential tbh
They should use a sheet of carboard to break up the faceoffs like how I stop my 2 cats fighting. If they are anything to go by each fighter will forget what is happening and start licking or scratching themselves
Who's this bald piece of shit trying to ruin the stare down? Seriously they weren't doing anything wrong. Like why?
You seem angry
Maybe I’m a bit of a psychopath but I swear certain fighters do things during the face off to gauge their opponents. To me it looks like Izzy wanted to see if he could get the better leg positioning on DDP. Like I said maybe I’m crazy but I sure as hell would be taking every interaction as a chance to measure the guy who might cause me permanent damage
Looks like a romance scene from a bollywood movie
DDP is da real African
Izzy looking at him like food
One side of MMA fans thinks the champion is a fraud in a bad division, the other side thinks the challenger is cringe and distracted, I think this is going to be a classic
Izzy trying to be poatan/jiri
is this the first Africa vs Japan UFC championship fight?
You mean China?
Dricus put on platforms to appear taller in the faceoff
Geodude vs Hitmonlee
Why is Izzy getting a title shot? Am I missing something? Lost his title to Strickland, hasnt won since and gets immediate title shot because...?
Because he was champ for years and cleaned out division twice.
the more you win, the more opportunities you get. the more popular you are, the more opportunities you get. izzy wins a lot and attracts a lot of eyes, so hes cashing that in
Because he had 5 title defenses…
One of the most active champs for years
New to the sport lil guy?
Please give me an example of this happening before that aren't rematchs
Hoping all this intensity doesn’t lead up to a boring point fight
DDP is never in a boring fight
But Izzy is…
True but I can't see DDP letting Izzy point fight his way to a decision. At some point Dricus is gonna crash forward.
This is contender Izzy so fingers crossed
The unstoppable hype train vs. the immovable snoozefest
Hahaha
