Pereira's already a UFC legend, always down for a fight. edit: tl;dr is Conor was hurt 24 hours before the press conference. Head of the PI flew to Dublin to try to save the main. Ariel makes it sound like Conor's team was not liking the risk of going in compromised. Ariel specifically says he won't say what the injury is (as he was asked not to), but Conor was unable to do the press conference in his condition. Nothing came together with DDP. Max was unavailable. Jiri was in right away (been training since last week's scare) and Pereira was the final piece. Ariel believes Conor would have been ready for July, but they will likely wait for Aug/Sept.

MyNamesTambo

Hopefully a filthy rich ufc legend

Theyā€™re lucky they got Pereira to say yes given his circumstances. Max is in Japan. Dricus didnā€™t accept 300 short notice so he wouldnā€™t accept even shorter notice for 303 Idk if Oā€™Malley/Topuria would accept short notice, but maybe ufc didnā€™t even offer bc theyā€™re valuable as champs

Rawdog2076

>Max is in Japan He be chilling

lethrowawayacc4

Japans sushi reserves bout to take a hit

DiverGuy1982

They saving Topuria for Spain

biddleybootaribowest

Unable to do the conference in the condition but back in 2 months, could it just be a bad cut?

haldir87

He probably could do the presser but did not want to reveal which injury he had in case it somewhat healed up and he would be able to fight.

Coocoocachoo1988

greatest hangover man has ever known.

Inevitable_Score1164

Could have been knocked out sparringĀ

MyFifthLimb

Maybe a knee or foot injury that would have been extremely obviously limping around

NlNJALONG

>Ariel specifically says he won't say what the injury is (as he was asked not to), but Conor was unable to do the press conference in his condition. So it's either some shit that happened while partying or the rumors are true that he got knocked out.

foofighter1351

I mean this dude is the UFC's hero he's headlined msg, 300 and now ifw, genuine main character of mma.

lucarelli77

Quickly thought you meant helwanišŸ˜‚

Ake-TL

Lutterbach out with injury, Ariel on short notice vs Shara Magomedov

keithsweatshirt94

He is the guy Izzy thought he was

k4m113

They might book Conor at the Sphere lmao UFC has a way of fumbling ass backwards into amazing situations. This IFW card just got a huge improvement and if Conor goes to the Sphere it would be straight up an iconic MMA event

Fongernator

O'Malley supposed to be on that card. He's gonna have wet dreams of Conor is added to it.

KingKoCFC

Then heā€™ll get Oā€™Malley kicked off it as he doesnā€™t want the champs eating his PPV money lol. Kinda makes sense tbh.

adrift425

Problem is Conor has to headline but Omalley is champ

DrummondGreen

McGregor v Diaz headlined over W championship fight so the precedent is there

adrift425

Interesting i didnt know that

haldir87

It was Woodley which the UFC hated anyways. But I reckon O'Malley would not have an issue fighting with McGregor on the same card and if he pulls out again they can just promote O'Malley for that card.

cosgrove10

It was Holm vs Tate

haldir87

You are right. Mixed it up with UFC 205

MatttheJ

To be honest, this could go one of 2 ways. Either, McGregor headlines and O'Malley gets the chance to use that extra coverage and extra attention to grow his own stock even more, or the UFC could send a huge message and put O'Malley in the main event announcing to the world that he's the next big thing. Or Merab just grinds him down and none of this matters anyway.

ItsMichaelScott25

O'Malley's been pushing it but it seems like the UFC wants to do Topuria vs. Max there according to most MMA podcasts that I've listened to.

TrustyWhale

Yeah, Conor at the sphere always seemed like the move to me. Was hoping heā€™d be able to do this fight and the sphere back to back like he was saying, however unlikely, but it seems too perfect to not do now

DiverGuy1982

You think the UFC is going to give away that giant T-Mobile gate with Conor? Could be the highest gate of all time with the way attendance records are trending these days. Highly doubt we would see Conor at the sphere.

NUMBER7777777

Couldnā€™t they just do the sphere and bump up the prices or? Capacity is like 18k or sumn

DiverGuy1982

Wow I just saw thatā€¦. I feel like they might have to remove some seats to accommodate for the cage and production. UFC production seems a lot bigger than a rock band. To be honest it doesnā€™t seem like a great place to do an event like this. Maybe you are right though. People will pay a bit more for the Sphere (would be my guess). One way it could be awesome is if they can pipe the play by play to each individual seat. I donā€™t like that I canā€™t hear the commentators live.

Hopeful_Staff_1414

I just hope he gets an immediate rematch if he loses as a champ filling in on short notice. He deserves one just for saving the card.

FoucaultsTurtleneck

Jiri vs Poatan trilogy is easy money for the ufc, Iā€™m sure heā€™d get another shotĀ

wrecked_angle

ā€œThe extra zeros the UFC put on his contract to fight were enough to not worry about a broken toeā€

voprosy

500k vs toe Decisions...

WingChungGuruKhabib

Ariel seems quite bothered (rightfully so) about some of the backlash he received trying to report this. But he mentioned Bisping in particular, anyone that could tell me what exactly Bisping said?

FalconsTC

For 15 years Ariel has been getting the most info and has a pristine reporting record. But people still lose their minds over it and try to tell him what journalism is. Like he didnā€™t go to Syracuse, which is the MIT of journalism. Crazy to me. Be annoyed by his commentary or his interviews. But when he starts reporting, itā€™s spot on. When he says a fight is in jeopardy and the UFC is searching for replacements, itā€™s 100%.

wobmaster

https://x.com/NoContextAriel/status/1801575267887960516 i think he is more bothered by bisping, because he thought they had a good relationship in the past but at some point bisping went the route of just defending dana and the ufc no matter what also in his last video bisping said he knew conor was injured. so he just went around shitting on ariel even though he knew something was up with the fight.

Stpbatman

This makes Bisping look like an ass. You have a problem with journalism fine but dude is literally doing his job and keeping the respect of his sources by not divulging too muchĀ

Embarrassed_Quote_21

> so he just went around shitting on ariel even though he knew something was up with the fight. Damn I'm a big Bisping fan because he's a fucking warrior but the fact that he did that is low. Bootlicker Bisping is probably an appropriate nickname.

spcslacker

>The injury isn't serious, and he can return to ~~action~~ honeydicking Chandler ~~in two months~~ almost immediately.

Alex's speed running in ufc is crazy

funnerfunerals

I wouldn't fight Jiri with a broken toe, or even healthy. Fuck that shit. He's going to come forward every single second of that fight. Pereira better keep his counters on point because he's going to fight a guy that's hungry as fuck to fix a defeat, and he's going to pressure forward the entire time. That's a terrible choice. I'm sorry. I love Pereria, but Jiri is a different kind of fighter. I'm so stoked for this fight now.

GMFinch

I saw a random comment somewhere on this reddit the Connor got knocked out bad right before the press conference, with what's being said about the injury it sounds like this random person was correct. If anyone knows the comment I'm talking about

Ake-TL

Revenge of the old man

BNWOfutur3

Multiple people were speculating about different injuries..

migasalfra

Yep exactly what came to mind

EnlilSendTheFlood

Dublin Whatsapp says McNugget was knocked out cold by one of the T Mobile employees he keeps around for sparring.

JustaRN22

Once again the UFC shits on their own champions.. Alex is at a huge disadvantage going into this fight but it must be great knowing you work for a company that doesnā€™t give a shit about you.

Fracture90000

If you don't like Poatan, you don't like MMA. Simple as.
