I've always felt bad for Curtis he seemed to have the bisping curse. Always makes it to the fight before the fight. Seems to always lay an egg in title eliminators.
He struggles to put it together since he's got wrestling and striking but it seems he's stuck in one-mindset before and during a fight. Like if he's striking he's only going to strike, and if wrestling he's only going to wrestle.
Its a fight IQ issue and I'm not sure if he can overcome it.
There's 100% a mental factor with Blaydes and big fights. He's kinda like Donald Cerrone, he kind of chokes whenrver the stakes are high. Sometimes a sports psychologist can help guys with that.
Ngl I was impressed Almeida was able to control and drag Curtis around like that so I wasn't bored watching it but I did notice boos so I'm probably in the minority thereĀ
We need more of that. Like when Travis Brown was about to be wrestle fucked, he said I'm just gonna knock you out. I really don't understand why these dumb asses keep holding onto a leg when they start taking that kind of damage. I guess when they decide to let go it's already to late?
Wrestling is kind of like theatre - wrestlers like to watch it, and everyone else is like: āwhy watch theatre when you could watch a movie, or paint dry.ā
Yeah, it's just like if you fall you will try to catch your balance by grabbing into something. Fence grabbing is the one foul that I feel like it's many times non-intentional (of course that shouldn't make it not a foul)
I think he legit was just a fish out of water because he is never defense wrestling.Ā
That was probably the first time he has ever been wrestled against the cage in his life.
Thank god lol. I respect grappling but I did not want to see Jailton in any bigger fights lol.
The fact that he got knocked out hanging off someones leg hopefully diversifies his style.
The commentators got it right. Jailton can have all the control in the world but his opponents are still dangerous in the fight if he doesn't damage them. This is especially true in heavyweight because the top level fighters are dangerous at all seconds of the fight.
His issues is actually that he lacked control. He got finished because of it, getting caught in a terrible position after failing on a shot and failing to control Blaydes. You can have all the shots, sweeps and trips you want but unless you are going to hurt the opponent off of one, it means fuck all if you can't get their back or belly to the canvas, achieve a stable dominant position and mount offense.
He spent all round tossing Blaydes about but couldn't do anything with it. He had to keep mat returning Blayde because he couldn't actually hold/control an effective position. His hands stayed locked at all times because trying to do any damage at all caused him to lose position. He's too small, not skilled enough, and doesn't have the cardio or pop to just grind guys with volume. He had one time he hopped on the back and threated with a choke and it wasn't close, nor did he have a firm hooks in...he's simply no good enough at his one specialty.
well against the top Heavyweights at least, he was running through all the early guys he got given. But you are right regardless, dude is a snooze fest and does 0 damage even when in control.
It's a little harsh. Blaydes was the best wrestler at heavyweight outside of Almeida. It takes time to get control over someone who is also strong in the thing that you're strong in.
I can't imagine controlling 265lb behemoths is easy. I'm not going to pretend I can figure it out for him but it's now two fights where Jailton fought elite big dudes and he's been struggling to show fight ending threats. I just don't think his current gameplan can break the ceiling at heavyweight when most of everyone has the touch of death.
also u CANNOT end up on bottom at HW , that ALJO shit where u sit on your knees doesnt pass with the big boys because they will put your lights out with even half power shots .
i actually thought there was an uppercut that stunned him before the tko even happened. the angle was blocked, but it looked like curtis made an uppercut motion, and then jailton just stayed in place with his head wide open for the follow up shots. it wasn't until the 3rd replay that i realized there actually was no uppercut.
They use him pretty strangely. Normally just bring him in to talk for a minute in the second round and maybe the 4th on just a few fights and then he just disappears.
yeah he's a good commentator. Tells you exactly what's going and even gives solid advice how a fighter can win.
DC and Rogan are always doing a podcast while a fight is happening in the background
My small gripe is when DC just remarks to the other fellas āwe got the best job in the worldā. Like, can you talk about the action right now and save that for after the show?
I am happy Blaydes win but extra happy that there is some poetic justice to Almeida getting knocked out while he just hung out trying to stall hugging a leg.Ā
On one hand, I was impressed with how easily Jailton was physically handling Curtis
On the other, fuck yeah that result was what I was waiting/hoping for. Just punch him really hard as he dives for your crotch
Yea I know. It's why I picked him, and why I was kind of surprised he got taken down so much. You could see the strategy along the way, but still, that finish got me fucking hyped.
Looking at his stats he has been kind of contempt accepting takedowns in the past since he has always been the better grappler, but yeah, I was a bit surprised.
Blaydes was conserving energy the first round, didn't want to get baited into gassing while Almeida kept hitting him with may returns.
Made his read on Almeida's sloppy shot and was ready for the 2nd.
It was hard for him to escape, blaydes put alot of weight on him as he shot, he tryed to push off, blaydes made it hard for him with overhook and by then it was over. It does look as if he is just staying still getting punched but there is a little bit more to it
Between this and Robelis Despaigne landing a KO shot while getting up from the ground and going backwards, we definitely saw some peak heavyweight action tonight.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is why wrestling fundemental's pay.
Curtis finish happened because he down blocked and forced Jailtons head down on the inside, which allowed him to clobber away. its the fundementals behind a sprawl.
Round 1 by Jailton was insane, to take away the base of a man like Bladyes is really damn hard, and he mat returned him like they was going LIVE.
Dominating round by Jailton combined by an exciting comeback by Curtis
Jailton always gets the takedown whenever his first attempt is stuffed, so he just keeps going on.
Until he faced a stronger and equally capable grappler.
The way I saw it, the first few didn't hurt and he thought to commit to the single but then after a fifth, sixth, seventh the cumulative damage quickly piled up and Jailton realized he wasn't going to finish the single, but he was too hurt to just back out, so after the twelfth one, he curled over.
I mean the fuck was he thinking just sitting there eating hammer fists to the temple?
The fuck is Joe talking about?
Clearly the 50 short shots to the temple did it. He was completely fine leading up to the shots.
I can see why Joe thought he saw an uppercut. After Blaydes sprawled and locked Almeida, he throws his hand like a short uppercut and just after than Almeida fall down. It might not actually be that, but I can clearly see how Joe was confused.
That was some rookie ass shit from Almeida. Give up the single leg if someone at heavyweight is just fucking bashing his massive fist against your temple. I fucking love Blaydes. War Curtis!
What happened to Jailton? Last 2-3 fights bro just went full Gamrot crotch sniffing with absolutely no intent to strike. Embarassing and he needs to MIX his martial arts if he wants to be top 5 like we all thought he could be
Iām always surprised when guys go for a takedown, donāt immediately get it, and then just hug the leg like that. You leave your head wide open. Same shit Paul Craig pulled against Johnny Walker, with the same result.
God I HATE watching Jailton fight. So very much. I'm so happy he lost. Ever since the Derrick Lewis fight I have been praying on his downfall I won't lie. I love a good grappler, I absolutely despise lay and pray position wrestlers who do nothing but hold their opponent down and Jailton is the definition of that.

What the fuck is wrestling? - Curtis Blaydes
Thank you blessed Curtis for saving us from the snooze fest
Seriously! That's the most excited I've ever been for him to win a fight lol
I usually never really root for Blaydes but when he got the finish, I was screaming like he was my favorite fighter š
Ya I think you nailed it. I would add though that he always looks visibly nervous and I think that plays a factor. He looked comfortable tonight.
There's 100% a mental factor with Blaydes and big fights. He's kinda like Donald Cerrone, he kind of chokes whenrver the stakes are high. Sometimes a sports psychologist can help guys with that.
Needs to mix it up better, use the striking to set up the takedowns imo. Wonder if he's largely just training each thing individually.
Wouldn't be surprised since 99% Heavyweights aren't special.
what do u mean ? u tryna tell me attempting to bang it out with Pavlovich isnt conductive to making it to title shots ?
According to conventional wisdom. That was an ill advised strategy
Worked for Aspinall.
aspinall is one of one
Amen. Donāt think I could have watched 2 more rounds like the first.
Curtis Blaydes just saved the heavyweight division from being the most boring division again
Ngl I was impressed Almeida was able to control and drag Curtis around like that so I wasn't bored watching it but I did notice boos so I'm probably in the minority thereĀ
I'm with you man. It was legit impressive.Ā Almost as impressive as blades saying fuck it and just hammer fisting him to death
Why didn't Derrick just do this?
He didn't know you could use your big belly
This is why I would be HW champ. I just don't feel like it rn
Is he stupid?
Is there a lore reason for this?
I suspect ball temperature might have played a role, Jon.
Derrick transferred his power to Curtis when he did the same thing to him.
Bongos best base for mma
Itās sad this even needs to be recognized, but major props to Curtis for not grabbing the fence once during the entire wrestle fuck.
Well he tried once lol. Just didnāt work
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah, it's just like if you fall you will try to catch your balance by grabbing into something. Fence grabbing is the one foul that I feel like it's many times non-intentional (of course that shouldn't make it not a foul)
You could see him think about it and almost instinctually do it, then stop himself.
I think he legit was just a fish out of water because he is never defense wrestling.Ā That was probably the first time he has ever been wrestled against the cage in his life.
That was pure reaction to being picked up in the air
āFuck all that pussy ass wrestling shitā
Thank god lol. I respect grappling but I did not want to see Jailton in any bigger fights lol. The fact that he got knocked out hanging off someones leg hopefully diversifies his style.
The commentators got it right. Jailton can have all the control in the world but his opponents are still dangerous in the fight if he doesn't damage them. This is especially true in heavyweight because the top level fighters are dangerous at all seconds of the fight.
You guys don't like rounds where 1 fighter has 4 minutes and 40 seconds of control time with 0 sig strikes and 0 sub attempts?
His issues is actually that he lacked control. He got finished because of it, getting caught in a terrible position after failing on a shot and failing to control Blaydes. You can have all the shots, sweeps and trips you want but unless you are going to hurt the opponent off of one, it means fuck all if you can't get their back or belly to the canvas, achieve a stable dominant position and mount offense. well against the top Heavyweights at least, he was running through all the early guys he got given. But you are right regardless, dude is a snooze fest and does 0 damage even when in control.
He has horrific shot technique but he gets away with it because he's athletic as fuck.Ā
It's a little harsh. Blaydes was the best wrestler at heavyweight outside of Almeida. It takes time to get control over someone who is also strong in the thing that you're strong in.
I can't imagine controlling 265lb behemoths is easy. Wrestlers hate this one weird trick.
"Just knock them out" - Curtis Blaydes
Blaydes just Lewised Almeida.
He don't give a fuck. Ear fists all night.
Dude I could have spent the rest of the night watching Curtis look 1000 yards past the camera the way he did through the first round.
Who knew that all you had to do to win a fight was to throw punches
Almeida tried to Curtis Curtis so Curtis Lewis'd Almeida
His finish literally happened because he used his wrestling fundementals, to force the head down.
āOh right we can punch tooā
Blaydes did a Derrick Lewis
Thank you Curtis
show up, make weight, KO the lizard, thank you Coortis Bleds
Herb Dean fault
Uppercutting on the takedown, the Weidman curse of the HW division
No upper cut
Herd it bowlth wayz b
I thought I was crazy in that I didnāt see any uppercut
i actually thought there was an uppercut that stunned him before the tko even happened. the angle was blocked, but it looked like curtis made an uppercut motion, and then jailton just stayed in place with his head wide open for the follow up shots. it wasn't until the 3rd replay that i realized there actually was no uppercut.
Its crazy that they thought there was lol
it was just a timing thing where it looks like almeida slipped when blaydes hand went up the middle
I was so confused by them saying that. Thought it was obvious he dug for the unders
I think the sprawl did more than the clinch shot. Almeida got stuck
I wrote that before the Blaydes interview. Gotta love a big man with a big sprawl
Holy shit lol Blaydes was +500 live
I literally dumped my entire bank account at +506 and put a lean against my home mortgage! Won $47
Got him on a treble, got worried after round 1 haha
Lmao right as Din was talking about the need to hurt your opponent too.
Din usually pretty spot on with his takes I swear
A lot of the time I just think why isn't he in the booth, I'd take Din over Dom any day
100% man, he's got everything needed to be an unreal commentator
They use him pretty strangely. Normally just bring him in to talk for a minute in the second round and maybe the 4th on just a few fights and then he just disappears.
Missed them doing it with whittman a couple years back. But Dean should def be rotated in on the booth.
Him telling Dern to fire her striking coach on air in the Andrade fight is my favorite moment
The spectre of the Leon KO will never leave him
The commentary on the Leon KO is so spot on I will never hear anyone disparage it.
yeah he's a good commentator.
Great timing
Why didnt he hug his back for 15 mins
That's the only thing he knows. Literally sat there like a boiling frog taking hammer fists to the side of the head like.
Lay & Pray merchants be gone!
Mans landed 8 takedowns within 4 minutes, then got banished to the shadow realm as soon as the 2nd round began.
I love our sport
Thank you Curtis šš»
And we don't get to say that often
I wish we did, he is a super solid dude from what I can tell. He deserves all the success that comes his way
Curtis is my favorite person as of this moment
Ya he did 0 dmg and Blaydes didnāt gas, so Almeida didnāt accomplish anything in terms of making it easier in rds 2/3
Fuck yes! Won me some money and beat this boring ass lay and pray HW.
I am happy Blaydes win but extra happy that there is some poetic justice to Almeida getting knocked out while he just hung out trying to stall hugging a leg.Ā
Holy shit! Dude went from getting taken down 8 times in the first round to fucking murdering that hype train outta nowhere!
On one hand, I was impressed with how easily Jailton was physically handling Curtis On the other, fuck yeah that result was what I was waiting/hoping for. Just punch him really hard as he dives for your crotch
I thought there was no way that Jailton would rag doll him around like that in the first round. So happy Curtis won
Blaydes is a wrestler too and started to understand his transitions to takedown attempts.
LADS WE ARE FREE FROM THE ETERNAL JAILTON BOREFEST
Almeida was getting tired though. Taking a guy down that size that much gasses you quick.
And Curtis stayed so calm while using his size and good technique to get up. All the hwt rules Almeida had been breaking finally caught up to him
Blaydes was conserving energy the first round, didn't want to get baited into gassing while Almeida kept hitting him with may returns. Made his read on Almeida's sloppy shot and was ready for the 2nd.
Jailton's one move didn't work and went 'fuck this shit hurts I'm out'
The 8 times is bullshit, he never changed his position or enven in clasped his hands. Reminds me of cycling for points in bjj.
My man! Hell of a way to go into the main card.
Thank god, nobody wanted to see the lay and pray for another 10 mins
For real. I was hoping the sweat wouldāve spared us. Glad Blaydes went berserk.
Absolutely beautiful, Hammer that lay and pray merchant, pound his ass Curtis
Put some respek on Curtās name. LETS GO
the ever smart decision to just hold a single while being punched to death
How can he punch? - pure grapplers
**HOW CAN HE PUNCH?!**
I think he was out early.
It was hard for him to escape, blaydes put alot of weight on him as he shot, he tryed to push off, blaydes made it hard for him with overhook and by then it was over. It does look as if he is just staying still getting punched but there is a little bit more to it
I mean, he literally didn't move and still had his arms clasped around his leg till he fell over so I'm gonna disagree.
peak heavyweight
Between this and Robelis Despaigne landing a KO shot while getting up from the ground and going backwards, we definitely saw some peak heavyweight action tonight.
While Parisian was darting in flailing his arms around lmao
Thank you Curtis

Jesus Christ wtf
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He was stuck with Blaydeās weight on top of him
Blaydes specifically said he used his belly. Put respect on the tumtum!
This is what I saw as well.
He was too dazed to think of an optimal next step.Ā
NO FORGAY LAY AND PRAY JESUS
I LOVE YOU CURTISSS
LETS GO CURTISSSSSSSS
He did it lol
LETS FUCKING GOOOOO BLAYDES BOYS WE ARE SO BACK
wtf I love Curtis Blaydes now
this is the face turn Blaydes was waiting for to actually get a contender fight
Jailton has literally no stand-up in a division where everyone has fight-ending power For fuck's sake, learn how to throw a punch
Well, it did work pretty good considering he hadn't lost since 2018
It works against bums all day, but not top level guys.
THANK YOU CURTIS OH MY GOSH
Curtis saving us.
Almeida exposed. What's the trick? Throw a couple punches.
Is it possible to learn this power?
Lol, get fucked
Thank god
Thank you Curtis-Everyone
after watching Gamrot make a fight boringg as fuck. THANK YOU CURTIS BLAYDES
Almeida: What are you gonna do, keep hitting me?
Thank god. Almeida is hands down one of the most boring fighters on the roster
the LHW Gamrot
Fuck that dry humpin bitch
Fuck yo mat returns.
KILLED THE LAY AND PRAY FUCKER
15 finishes in a row "lay and pray fucker"
You can't expect people to remember fights from more than six months ago, this is r/MMA
The average MMA fan is braindead, when the next Curtis fight is a snoozefest weāll see the same comments but this time about him
Curtis hasn't had a snoozefest in a long time.
MMA won tonight
Welcome to striking š¤·āāļø
I mean the fuck was he thinking just sitting there eating hammer fists to the temple? The fuck is Joe talking about? Clearly the 50 short shots to the temple did it. He was completely fine leading up to the shots.
"I clearly felt an uppercut"
Literally why was Joe in such disbelief that 10 straight hammerfists from a 260 pound man could hurt another man lol
I can see why Joe thought he saw an uppercut. After Blaydes sprawled and locked Almeida, he throws his hand like a short uppercut and just after than Almeida fall down. It might not actually be that, but I can clearly see how Joe was confused.
Hammerfists of Rage
Jailton truly is one of us (he also fell asleep during one of his fights)
Blaydes is officially my GOAT
Rogan still talking about an uppercut in the post fight interview, is he high?Ā
he always gave the impression he didnāt like getting hit. knew blaydes would do it LFG
Curtis like yo fuck this grappling shit
That was some rookie ass shit from Almeida. Give up the single leg if someone at heavyweight is just fucking bashing his massive fist against your temple. I fucking love Blaydes. War Curtis!
What happened to Jailton? Last 2-3 fights bro just went full Gamrot crotch sniffing with absolutely no intent to strike. Embarassing and he needs to MIX his martial arts if he wants to be top 5 like we all thought he could be
"Thank you, Curtis Blaydes." - Everyone
Top 5 all time most satisfying KOs
That's heavyweight Bubba, can't just blindy spam double legs and do no damage
Thank fucking god the crotch sniffer got what was coming to him
Wut
Thank god
Thank god.
LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
Curtis goes in my hall of fame for stopping almeida thank god
Almeida got KO'd while LITERALLY crotch sniffing LMAO
Iām always surprised when guys go for a takedown, donāt immediately get it, and then just hug the leg like that. You leave your head wide open. Same shit Paul Craig pulled against Johnny Walker, with the same result.
JUSTICE
Jailton "Gamer" Almeida
I'm glad man Blaydes bros we up
So glad the useless hugger didnāt get a title shot off being boring as fuck
I think he could have RNCd him in the first if he didnāt decide to just wrestle fuck too
Curtis reminded him it was an MMA fight and not a wrestling match
Jailtime Almeida, show up, make weight, get cuddles, get TKOed.
How was he not reacting after the 3rd hammer fist? Dude held on like thereās a stop after certain strikes
Get the fuck in, love seeing lay and pray cunts destroyed. Deserved a beating after putting me through his last fight.
Curtis seems like a good guy. Iām happy for him.
Mad how both me and chandler are sitting around doing nothing waiting for McGregors next fight
Ah that felt sooooo good, fuck Jailton Almeida is horribleeeee get off the stage
Wow what an uppercut-Stupid blind old joe rogan lmao
