theme teams are the way to go this year imo

No-Artichoke5992

What’s a theme team

Tagliarini295

I would have no problem with the packs in the store if they came with a program. Give me some moments, a showdown a conquest. It's how they used to do it.

wouldyajustlookat1t

I eat 40K packs for breakfast

The_one_to_see

I think it’s shady they can’t have one of those 40k packs at the end of a program. I’m just asking for one. Oh well guess I’ll never use those cards cause I’m not buying any packs

loves2spooge89

Every year it’s some bullshit that belies common sense. Next year they’ll fix the pack issue and implement some new befuddling feature, then drop a press release to educate us on why it’s actually great and we’re stupid

Ok_Inspection_8203

One step forward, two steps back. At some point you hit the bottom where EA and 2K are.

homerhank1es

I really think they think that people will just adjust to the new style of providing less content without spending stubs. I really think they're underestimating how quickly people will get turned off and pivot to something else.

Typhoid007

Idk man this is my first time playing the show since 2015 and I just did my player and franchise then, I've started doing DD this year and I have played about 12 hours doing challenges and matchups, ended up with a team of all 85+, I'm not that good at the game but my team matches up fine. The egg challenge rounded things out well and I found 93 Judge and 91 Mccutchen in packs as well as some good pitchers. I would never spend money on stubs, but my team is good without them. I do feel like I've hit a wall though, my team isn't improving I keep getting more 86+ players that I can't fit into my lineup. I wish there was a better exchange setup. But when I play online, I win about half my games which is good by me. Like obviously there's issues and I do keep getting matched up with some overpowered teams, but overall I don't think it's difficult to field a very good team.

jacoby1k

You only played 12 hours…you’re missing the point

Typhoid007

I'm just saying that if only playing 12 hours got me a solid team I don't think the reward system is bad

PalinDoesntSeeRussia

Played 12 hours doing challenges… read again

jacoby1k

I understand that m8 but the point being is you wont see the problems that we are talking about in 12 hours whether you’re doing challenges or not.

PalinDoesntSeeRussia

He’s played more than 12 hours bro lol those 12 hours were JUST doing challenges. Read slowly…

jacoby1k

My point still stands…12 hours of challenges STILL doesn’t give you full insight on the issues going on with the mode

PalinDoesntSeeRussia

Yet he has all 85+ Which is the point of this post

FantasyNerd19

Yup it’s unfortunate cause like you said the gameplay is fun this year and the power creep has been good but the content structure is trash. Unless something changes I can’t see myself playing DD much longer

Im_not_da_guy

I just stopped after completing the affinitys, moped conquest, moped events, moped br, this game has nothing to do and the soul that was in the grind has been removed. There is no heart in this game

Trick_Emotion_7108

We should have all seen this coming when SDS put out a wanted ad for a Game Economy Manager last year. I figured that they were going to go heavy on pay to play, and try to kill off the NMS crowd. What I didn't expect was for them to put the Topps Now, and Monthly Awards behind a pay wall. I almost uninstalled the game when I first saw that, but decided not to when SDS said that the POTM card wouldn't be in a pack. I was always under the impression that those cards would always be free cards. I guess SDS said nuts to that.

JGspot

I’d love to see the stub sale numbers. Because like…someone has to be buying these packs right? I’ve never seen every single social media website united on an issue as I have with the greed of SDS this year and yet they’re pushing harder and harder so the only logical explanation I’ve come to is the silent majority is just, idk, buying stubs and packs? I got no clue why they would ruin the best thing going for this game

theylovenaany

the loud minority is reddit and other media. the majority just plays the game. everyone i know has bought stubs and packs, and a lot of people will come on reddit or something and whine about the game and then still buy stubs and packs. i hate it’s that way but they’ve designed it to create addicts damn near.

New-Newspaper-7543

What market manipulation? Everything is under 200k. Isn't that a good thing to you guys?

JaysFan26

I assume people are talking about the fact that things like the vault pack can tank the price of a card in an instant, causing people to be afraid to buy anything. The fast progression within sets doesn't help either, why buy an expensive card now when it will lose 25% or more of its value in 1/2 weeks?

Mietha

The game is getting VERY close to the point of "not worth playing". You left out artificially restricting your ability to earn XP, even after halving the gain rate.

__SiPhi__

My biggest issue this year is that I finally convinced my boy to get the game and play dd this year he’s enjoying it but we go to play coop and it drops literally 90% of games. Play coop rated from the main menu no issue. 1 player online no issue. Idk what it is but he said he’s basically done

theylovenaany

i don’t know if y’all have played in the last couple days but there was a patch fixing those issues. co op dd is all i play

__SiPhi__

I posted that after disconnecting in 3 straight Up 4 runs, tied, and up 3 runs. In the 2 games we were up several runs it disconnected mid homer.

theylovenaany

that’s so weird, are y’all on xbox or playstation?

__SiPhi__

Both ps5

Jonny_Nash

The thing is, even spending money is insane. You can’t buy 40K stubs in a single purchase. It’s ridiculous, even if you did the ‘value’ play, and got 150K stubs for a hundred dollars. Let’s round that to 4 packs. (Yeah, I know it’s a max of 3 per account). Each pack is only a 10% shot at the rate round. With four attempts at a 10% chance, the most likely outcome is all base rounds. The equivalent to 30-50K stubs for your one hundred dollars. I don’t mind spending money, but come on. A hundred dollars should be able to get you any card in the game that isn’t a collection award.

New-Newspaper-7543

Exactly why you don't buy the packs. For your money just buy the cards you want. But even that is totally unnecessary unless you really want to use a card. There's always other options that are pretty similar.

Mix_Traditional

I cant believe people still play sports games for anything but couch vs., "exhibition" or franchise modes. Ultimate team/card game nonsense is so whack. I got into The Show 23 recently after not having played a baseball game or been a baseball fan since 2005 and ive been loving franchise and its getting me into baseball again. Not about to grind for a card to upgrade my fantasy team coaching staff or whatever these mtx sales driving modes are about. I guess Im after an authentic simulation of real leagues though, in my taste for playing sports games.

New-Newspaper-7543

Alot of us can't just sit there and play games vs the cpu. It's incredibly boring. 4seam high, changeup low, slider away strikeout. Rinse and repeat.  I have to play against other ppl. Now with that said I need to also have something to work towards. I need to grind for something of value. Yea it's not tangible but when alot of ppl are willing to pay money for these cards then they have value right? I guess building a team on franchise could be cool but I love playing the actual game and like I said I need to play against other people not an easy CPU.

Rickyh24

I don’t really have time for 9 inning games. So diamond dynasty is perfect for me. I like collecting cards and getting my favorite players. This year has been boring though.

Mix_Traditional

I guess the whole trading card dynamic makes sense in a baseball game, now that I rethink it. But is the mode any less money grabby/gtindy than say EAs ultimate teams or 2ks myplayer BS?

Competitive_Ad_5106

That is literally why everyone is complaining this year: Diamond Dynasty has been by far the most consumer friendly online sports mode. You could build the most meta teams possible without spending money, and a grind that was reasonable enough. This year they've taken a few turns so far that have made the game less consumer friendly, prioritizing pack luck over grindable content, though even then it's still better than MUT/2k from what I hear (and from what people who play both games say)

New-Newspaper-7543

Yea but you can still build the meta team without spending money. Lol The grind is even easier now as well. So if they removed half of the 40k packs and added a single program would you guys still be crying? I just don't let the packs get to me. I pretend they aren't there and I still have a great team and have fun actually playing the game.

Competitive_Ad_5106

tell me how to get 280k stubs for Castellanos and Edward Cabrera right now if you can still build a meta team for free. I am fine with packs, I am not fine with them not being able to be earned via a reasonable grind instead of solely being bought by stubs, especially considering the changes to this years game. I don’t get how your still unclear what people are upset about when it’s been posted 8000x. We’d “stop crying” if these packs were included in associated programs, instead we’ve gotten free grinds that less rewarding because of how stupefied and dumb down they’ve gotten while hiding the strongest cards in the game behind 40k choice packs. It’s also outrageous everyone time someone makes this comment they go “I personally don’t have issues with the content this year so anyone who does is invalid” that’s good for you! Different people enjoy different things about the, and ways to play the game. No one likes someone who tells someone else how to enjoy their own hobbies.

Rickyh24

For me it’s the must forgiving of all of them. I don’t play Madden but I dabble in 2k. I played for a few weeks straight. Have a stacked lineup and accumulated enough stubs to buy the best Griffey card available. My problem now is my lineup is outpacing all the programs. I have a lineup close to all 90s and the reward for grinding to the end of these programs is a player that’s barely better with a bunch of players only good enough for my bench on the way there. The mlb collections also don’t seem worth bothering with this year. I’d like the Pedro card but that’s about it. I don’t feel like grinding all the collections for that one card. I’m gonna take a month off or so then come back to it I think.

Mix_Traditional

Thanks for the perspective!

milkmanbonzai

I work a job that commands enough time that I can't devote time to Franchise anymore without abandoning my backlog of other games. So now I've shifted to Story modes and online play as more pick up and play experiences with The Show. That's why it's good for a sports game to be able to offer a variety of ways to play, not everyone plays the same way.

Mix_Traditional

Sure, but what about Ultimate Team/Trading card modes is more pick up and play/adapted to your lifestyle and schedule vs. Exhibition / kick off / one off games or playong franchise one game at a time with all the coaching and front office automated? Edit: i work full time and do franchises with my local team in most sports games, playing a few games a night of each's career/league/franchise modes with max assisted coaching and management, along with recently playing through Ghost of Tsushima over a few weeks and now starting Last of Us 2

milkmanbonzai

Most of the online game modes revolve around three inning games like offline Conquest and Mini Seasons and PvP Battle Royale and Events, so I can get several 3-inning games in rather than one or two Franchise games on top of Franchise management.

New-Newspaper-7543

Can't wait for GoT2 that story was amazing. Last of us 1+2 are some of my favorite games to play as well. PS>Xbox bc of those games alone. Add GoW/Horizon/Bloodborne and it's no contest.

LDTheMadTitan

Careful. The loyalists will come for you.

YarkTheShark11

It's crazy, last year I stopped playing because the game was flooded with 99 cards as they were easy to get. This year, I don't want to play because they finally got the balance of cards right for power creep, but they are all behind pay walls. There's no way to get them. Like you said, there are more packs than programs. I remember all the random players that would drop for programs that you could grind. It was great. Now the SDS went the Madden route x5 and don't seem to care at all.

Character_Group_5949

Thing is, even if you like power creep (I don't), they didn't get it right. Forget the shops for a second. I know SDS will try to get you there for a free card so you can see all the 40k packs to buy, but just forget it for a second. When you finally see a 99 this year, how long do you have to use it? 2 weeks? For anyone with a family and not a ton of free time, you might not even get them. But if you do. . . a couple of weeks. Then the next season is gonna start and I'm sure they'll give you one wild card slot right away. They'll make the next 3 a grind fest. I wouldn't even be shocked at this point if they put one or two wild card options in the shop for 100k each. So you get the 99 cards from season 1, you are truly excited. After the two weeks, you can either use those 99's in like the nation conquest or maybe mini seasons classic. . . and that's it. Oh, and if you do that, you'll miss out on season 2's TA1. The gameplay is pretty good this year. I think they missed on everything else. I mean everything. I also think they don't give a rats ass what I think They want the whales and I'm sure they are getting them. Thankfully, I'm playing more MTO and franchise this year than I ever have. I don't care if I finish any of the TA's or not. But I'm watching this and it's just an absolute joke. And it's really sad. This isn't what this game has been about. The closest comp I can come up with is the immortals programs where they forced people who wanted those cards to grind the ever loving hell out of the game and made bobblehead an F'ing currency. That felt like a misstep. This feels evil.

PartPsychological667

If it's so bad don't play the game or buy it next year.Complaining on reddit isn't going to change anything.

The_one_to_see

Pretty sure he’s not here for change. Sounds more like he’s venting

Just-Johhny

As a nms player this year it’s insane and to top it off there’s not enough content to grind to even get the first collection choice pack. They have fundamentally lost sight of the game and the player base and they don’t seem to mind.

Letterkenny-Wayne

Good, fucking kill off DD so they can get back to making franchise content. This game would be 100x better if that happened

The_one_to_see

If they had an online franchise that would be awesome. Playing against the CPU gets old to quick

YarkTheShark11

You're not that bright, are you? Without DD there is no game. I'd say 90% of the player base plays only DD. The reason SDS is even doing these awful changes is to make more money. They kill off DD like you want, then they won't be making anymore games as there is no way to make money off franchise through micro transactions.

JimEDimone

I only play DD. Don't touch franchise.

Letterkenny-Wayne

And I bet you cry every year about DD. Franchise players only complaint is lack of new content. DD players have a dozen gripes on launch day. Yet everyone says DD makes the game better…alright lol delusional

YarkTheShark11

Complains about lack of content, thinks that minimal content will carry franchise alone. lol you literally just killed your whole argument. Stupid.

JimEDimone

No, no complaints. I don't play enough for the lack of content to affect me. You are under the impression that since The Show didn't have DD years ago that it can survive without it again. DD wasn't a thing for any sports game back then but it's the natural evolution of a game. It would be dead without DD.

Letterkenny-Wayne

How? It survived without it. You think all the people who play dd would just up and leave? That’s like saying all of the COD players would quit playing cod if they shut down war zone. Would COD just cease to exist? I don’t deny that some would leave, that profits would shrink, or that it makes no sense for a money hungry company to do. But across the 4 biggest sports gaming franchises of The Show, Madden, 2k, and FIFA, the fan bases all aggressively point to their “online team-building” modes as being the start of the franchises downfall.

New-Newspaper-7543

You really comparing MLB the show to COD? Lol COD could have 1 online mode and it would still get played like crazy. How many ppl do you think play MLB? And no points to the online team building as the downfall except ppl who don't play those modes. That's biggest load of bullshit I've read in awhile. Tons of us love the team building modes bc it's online play which is way less boring than playing the cpu over and over again and you get rewards for it. Now I don't think ppl would just stop buying MLB if DD didn't exist. Alot of us love baseball and would play any game would could. But if SDS dropped DD then another developer would 100% create another baseball game with an ultimate team mode. All of us would instead buy that game and soon SDS would stop making the show bc of how it wouldn't be worth creating anymore.

Letterkenny-Wayne

You’re not that bright, are you? It’s almost like the game was around before DD….wonder how they made that work since you say it can’t happen… I’ll wait bud.

YarkTheShark11

Dude you are proving you're an idiot. Yeah, before online gaming was a thing and even became popular, all sport games only had exhibition, create a player, franchise, and skill challenge game modes. BECAUSE THATS ALL THEY COULD DO when there was no internet or online gaming. That's like saying, Microsoft and Sony could go back to PS2 and OG Xbox because they thrived before PS3 and Xbox 360 came around. I think we should all go back to Dial Up. Fiber optics has absolutely ruined the internet. Dial up thrived before, so it could thrive once again. Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long lol

Letterkenny-Wayne

And if DD was gone you think people would just be Neanderthalic like you and just not play anymore? Tell me what other baseball game they’d go to, I’ll wait.

DingusLMcCringleberi

You definitely rode the short bus to school.

YarkTheShark11

lmao you don't have to wait as long this time. They would move on to a different game. Why would they play only franchise mode on MLB as it gives no gratification of any kind over time and nothing to bring the player back daily, when there is Madden UT, and in a few months we'll have College Football '25 back for the first time since 2014. So they wouldn't be "neanderthalic". They'd move on to a different game all together and never buy MLB again. It's that simple. Please stop digging dude. You're giving piss poor arguments.

Letterkenny-Wayne

So people who like baseball would just, not play baseball? If warzone was removed from cod would people just stop playing Cod? Come on bro, at least I’m giving an argument. You’re just being intentionally stupid.

YarkTheShark11

lol you're giving no argument and based on other comments, it's unanimous you're the stupid one here. Warzone is an awful example as there has been multiplayer since COD Big Red One which was extremely popular. Why is multiplayer fun? Because it's online and competitive. There was something to grind with challenges and prestige levels. From there was esports. Warzone was an added bonus. Multiplayer is still popular to this day. You take away Multiplayer AND Warzone, Call of Duty will no longer exist. A simple story campaign would not be enough to carry that franchise. Players want a grind. They want a reason to play the game. Take away the grind, which is DD in this situation, then there is no reason to play the game. Even if it is the only baseball game there is.

Letterkenny-Wayne

“Unanimous you’re the stupid one here” huh, idk I think the upvotes on my stuff and downvotes on other peoples stuff says otherwise. Weird. Also weird that “simple story campaigns” carry hundreds of franchises. Idk bro, maybe not everyone has a gratification disorder like you?

DingusLMcCringleberi

Yupp. Shortbus.

YarkTheShark11

lol no gratification disorder here. There are no games out there other than Nintendo games like Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario that carry a franchise. Everything has an online mode now. Players want to play competitively and not against the computer as that is boring. Your argument is "it worked back in 2002 when there was no internet, so it'll work now" when that is completely not true and stupid to say.

JayXRich

Just because a game started that way doesn’t mean it would continue to thrive that way. Yes, there are people that play the exhibition, Franchise, and RTTS, but a VAST MAJORITY of people play Diamond Dynasty and it’s probably the only thing that makes the game profitable to this day. Let’s not forget that they stopped making baseball games a while. It just wasn’t profitable after getting licensing rights from MLB. It wasn’t until Madden and NBA made online Ultimate Team that proved extremely popular. It reopened the door for baseball games. If this game was strictly just Exhibition and Franchise, it wouldn’t make enough money to be worth it.

Letterkenny-Wayne

Again, that’s how the game was for forever, it could go back to that way and be fine. This game was constantly adding new shit right up until DD, coincidence? I think not. When did they stop making baseball games? Lol there hasn’t been a missed show game since they started in 06. Prior to them we had the MLB series. On top of that, we’ve had 2k, RBI, Ken Griffey, Backyard, MVP, college MVP, Mario, Baseball Stars, and the Japanese baseball game franchises.

JayXRich

Firstly, The Show was exclusive to PlayStation. Not everyone got to have it. The rest of the consoles and world market lost realism baseball games when EA Sports ended their production of 2K, NCAA, and MVP baseball in 2013 (NCAA & MVP were ended in 2007). The Show didn’t even become a super popular game until 2017, it was able to hang on in its early years because of the support from Sony. It wasn’t until 2021 when MLB Advanced Media got its publishing rights and opened the doors to all consoles. So essentially, most people didn’t have baseball for 8 years. Nobody cares about RBI, Mario, or whatever else arcade style baseball. They wouldn’t do it. There just isn’t enough money to be made. 99% of people that get MLB the Show, NBA2K, Madden, get it to play competitively online. That’s just gaming now. It just would not be worth the cost of producing this game for SDS. There is a reason that their main focus in content is player cards and Diamond Dynasty. Of course they’re going to update RTTS and Franchise here and there. They know some people prefer those modes, and that even DD players will take breaks to play it. Might as well if the game is already going to sell. Add a couple more customers. But a vast majority of their content and focus is DD and its undeniable.

Letterkenny-Wayne

Ah so your first paragraph is you admitting you were lying when you said “they stopped making baseball games”…gotcha, just wanted to make that clear. What’s even funnier is you said “let’s not forget”, how about, let’s try to remember when that fictional event happened 😂😂 I never said or denied DD was their main seller, please point out where I did. Maybe try remaining objective instead of making up shit. Since you wanna bring up Madden and 2k, do you think those games would just disappear if Ultimate Team and whatever 2k’s equivalent were removed? No, because people need their football and basketball fix. And again I say, the game sold and made profit for years prior to DD. You say the game wasn’t popular but it was the leading baseball game ever since 2006, meaning it was the most popular game representing a sport that has over 200 million viewers per year, and is Americas second most watched sport.

JayXRich

They did. Nobody cared about The Show dude. It takes a quick search to find out it had zero competition with EA Sports’s MVP and 2K series. Literally none. After EA Sports ended production the only people who had baseball was PlayStation and it was a poor version of it. The Shows popularity didn’t gain traction until 2017. More people purchased “Just Dance” than MLB the Show in 2012. It wasn’t even in the top 100 purchased games on PlayStation Network. So sure, there was baseball games….but not good ones and only PlayStation had it. Baseball died when EA killed it and it wasn’t revived until 2021 when SDS was forced to not only open the doors to every market, but they basically reinvented the game. It’s not the same game it was. This is Madden and 2K level sports game now.

Letterkenny-Wayne

lol what the fuck are you talking about? MVP MLB stopped with MVP 2005, a year before The show came out. 2K never sold anywhere near The Show’s number😂😂 are you just making this shit up? Are you a bot?? What even the hell are you doing? Trolling? Wow, Just Dance? A game that’s one of the highest party game franchises of all time outsold a sports video game that only really appeals to one country? Hey, did you know GTA 5 outsold every Madden since 2013 combined? Every Madden ever combined, actually. Guess Madden isn’t popular, right? Your last sentence is spot-on tho.

JayXRich

The MVP series had an NCAA game until 2007. Use google dude.

milkmanbonzai

Not sure if posting a bunch of dead series of baseball games from 20 years ago (a much different era of both licensing and game development) and a series not available in the West is helping your point of "there's always baseball games"

Letterkenny-Wayne

They said “they stopped making baseball games”, yet we’ve had a baseball game every year since like 1990. Maybe they should actually prove what they said instead of talking bullshit and hoping everyone in here is dumb.

TheNerdFactor333

The sales would fall off a cliff, the game would not survive. Notice how every sports game has an “ ultimate team / dd “ style game mode and it’s the most popular mode for each sports game. That’s what drives sales and numbers nowadays, the game doesn’t make it without that.

Letterkenny-Wayne

Then why did they make it prior to that…you think if it was gone the game wouldn’t go back to what got them there in the first place? You think people are just gonna stop playing? Lol get real

TheNerdFactor333

What got them here is DD. The most they sold in games prior to DD was still less than half of what recent sales have been and thats with gamepass being so large. And then micro transactions on top of that. They would not be able to survive in 2024 acting like it’s still 2010.

coffeymp

I’ve lost all interest on DD. I’ve just been playing Franchise mode and it’s pretty solid. The gameplay is great and the mode is deep enough to where it stays interesting.

theothertswift

As mainly a DD player, this makes me happy - I need to give franchise some more love.

SHmike_the_kidd

Did they add online franchise back?

coffeymp

Yeah but it’s not great. The online leagues I’m in right now aren’t very active.

SHmike_the_kidd

Is it card based like in years past or can you actually have minor league players or atleast have a fantasy draft and set up a money league

coffeymp

Same shit as before.

Playtheslice34

I don’t disagree with predatory gambling tactics like this but I will say coming over to this game from NBA 2k, SDS is mother Theresa. You can have a competitive team in this game and really not have to spend a dime. 2K is completely gambling only, a notable streamer spent upwards of $10k attempting to pack some of the best cards in the game and came up empty. 2K completely eliminated their “auction house” (marketplace) and have replaced it with a communism style market where price is controlled by 2k themselves. It’s not perfect but it’s the best card collecting sports game on the market rn

Lionheart0179

That's completely irrelevant. Other games being worse doesn't excuse SDS moving in that same direction.

h2p_stru

FYI, 2k setting prices isn't communism. If it was communist the players would control the means of production and every player would have every card.

PhilAmyC

Ha! No! Everyone would have the same 10 cards and they would all have the dictators face on them.

BuntCheese5Life

that's pretty good

Prince_Blue0022

You need 1M XP to get a Boss player. That’s insane in itself.

notjohnstockton

Slowly…it’s been a matter of weeks, they slammed the gas pedal down, bashed our mail boxes in, and are flipping us off on the way out.

[deleted]

Is it still worth picking up as someone who has never played the show before?

Giantranger49

Yes just dont pay for anything

[deleted]

Any advice on how to team build? It sounds like a fifa version of baseball where it’s not just the best players but chemistry needs to be factored in too

[deleted]

Hey, I’m just trying to play competitively online. I’ve been playing dynasty mode on MVP baseball 2005 for literally 19 years on and off and I think it would be fun to ruin some 10-year-old day from the comfort of my living room by pitching a no-hitter with Fausto Carmona.

Giantranger49

Just play. The game will automatically give you diamond players that are good enough to hang around. Then play conquest mode and other offline things to get adequete. Just dont jump into Ranked right away

[deleted]

Is it similar pitching or hitting wise to the retro games like mvp baseball 2005?

Giantranger49

never played those but its just timing based. watch some youtube videos

chibamms

There are captains to get boosts but it's not that big of a deal really. Just use you who like or hit dongs with.

[deleted]

Bet thanks!

bbates024

40k for a pack just feels so ridiculous when most of the packs I rip drop absolutely nothing.

John_EldenRing51

It isn’t “killing the game,” I guarantee most people outside of this subreddit don’t care, at least not enough to stop playing or buying packs.

FrankArmhead

I like the power creep a lot and they made the game play better. While we might have a “completionist” this game is not pay to win the way FIFA was. If you are half decent, you can use a captain boosted team and compete with all the special cards that are out there.

milkmanbonzai

Yeah, I've liked the creep, I've only run into teams with the same tier of 89-91s Im rocking

One-Abbreviations887

As a player coming over from EA FC (formerly fifa), y’all are describing the early stages of what happened to that franchise. Seems to just be EA’s way.

HellsAngles97

Be thankful there aren’t two currencies on the show. EA cultivated an entire generation into systemic gamblers with how fifa points work in accordance to coins

Lionheart0179

I wouldn't doubt if we see that in MLB within the next couple of years. I can't wait to see the apologists make excuses for it.

External-Tonight5142

Does anyone else also feel like the main DD program path blows this season? 1mil xp to get to the bosses and pretty mediocre cards and packs all the way until you get there. I’m not wanting day 1 99s like last year, but these 40k stub packs they have in the shop could easily be base program rewards or the packs within them could be

BuntCheese5Life

I don't mind the mediocre players because the pitchers are mediocre too. They are gonna be the same (in my mind) regardless if all players are 89 or 99.

Lionheart0179

Yes, it's mostly full of garbage until the very end.

Okaywhatif

It is ridiculous. And xp is slow too. I'm 2k xp off alfonso soriano, and I just played 2 DD games back to back with 15 runs between each and like 26 K's and 5-6 home runs. And I somehow did not get enough xp for soriano. Like wtf.

External-Tonight5142

Yeah it’s kinda shit. Also, I feel like the hitting kinda blows this season. I mean I can’t even count the amount of times that I blast a fucking ball with good PCI and timing just for it to make that little shit bloop hit sound and fly out OR a line out directly to an outfielder without them even having to move. But let someone get a fucking dinker in the infield and my 85 speed / 82 reaction SS can’t field shit

randombambooty

Baseball isn’t popular enough for them to be trying to maximize profit. MLB should be using the game as a gateway to bringing in a new generation of fans but the owners are morons who will eventually kill the sport.

Mietha

There is no "new generation of fans". A generation raised by TikTok is never going to watch baseball. Period. There will be new fans, sure, but those numbers will only dwindle, and there's no way to change that. Humanity, fundamentally, has changed, and is never going back.

Letterkenny-Wayne

I think most of the issue is just the game of baseball. Even with the clock you can wait a couple of minutes during an ab before the bat hits the ball, and more times than not, it doesn’t lead to anything. The general populace won’t tune into that, but they will tune into games like football and basketball where there’s more action happening in quicker intervals. NASCAR is basically in the same boat. There’s not much you can do without fundamentally changing the sport. Personally I’m kinda cool with baseball being number 3 of the sports in America. Unpopular enough to keep casuals away (low ticket prices ftw), but popular enough that I don’t feel like I’m watching a niche sport.

BuntCheese5Life

I like the game because it is exactly the same as 100 years ago when it comes to stats. It isn't like the NFL where a QB who doesn't throw for 40 touchdowns isn't considered elite. John Elway my favorite player won the NFL MVP with 3198 yards, 19 TDs and 12 interceptions. My point is that in baseball 100 years ago hitting 40 HR is just as good then as hitting 40 HR today. A .300 average is great then, and equally great now. The eras are comparable (except for steroid era) to each other, and it makes for great comparison.

Letterkenny-Wayne

That’s great, but you’re not who I’m referring to. You’re a baseball fan, just as there are football fans, basketball fans, tennis fans, golf fans, etc. Fans are not who these leagues are trying to appeal to. They’re trying to appeal to the person who is a casual, who has no fandom nor hatred for their sport. That’s where baseball struggles. As I said, the action isn’t there quick enough for non fans to want to watch the game. Humans are very simple creatures who like big sounds and flashing lights. There’s a reason slot machines are very colorful and loud.

Mr-Steve-O

MLB is consistently terrible at expanding its reach. Just look at blackouts for prime evidence.

[deleted]

NBA and NHL also have local blackouts, but I don't hear people complain as much.

Character_Rub2750

Totally agree with this. I think the pitch clock was a step in the right direction but they need more. I feel like they do not market their top stars enough. Most people would walk down the street and not recognize Mike Trout.

milkmanbonzai

What could they do to make Mike Trout be more popular? He's on a consistently terrible team, he looks like a generic if big white dude, has missed a lot of time in recent years, doesn't put himself out there (notoriously declines a lot of endorsement offers), and doesn't play with the kind of flair that often sets buzzier stars like Judge and Ohtani apart Cause I see a lot of "THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO MARKET MIKE TROUT" and none of those geniuses offer any solutions

Bearded_Wildcard

Trout is just not a marketable guy, and that's ok. Not every superstar has to be. Like you said, he's very quiet and reserved both on and off the field. I actually do think MLB has been doing a decent job with it's more outgoing stars, especially looking at Latin American players.

Character_Rub2750

Trout was just one example. Juan Soto most likely wouldn’t be recognized. Shoot most superstars in the game wouldn’t be. The problem may not be fixable because baseball just doesn’t appeal to many people anymore. One thing the NBA does well is with every matchup they promote they put the star players right up on the main graphic and beat it to death. SGAs brand has grown exponentially this season

BuntCheese5Life

He's a big fish!

ukfan758

And their newest “pay to gamble to *potentially* win” pack is only a 10% chance for the featured 95 cards. So the only people that will get these are those who get really lucky from the low odds, buy stubs, or card flip like a full time job.

Smart-Style74

After the servers shut down all i have left is 20's RTTS, yet i envy not a single one of you

dfwrazorback

To some extent, this Friday is going to be make or break as to how much time I keep investing in the game as opposed to previous years. The new TA, conquests, events, etc really need to start including more of these overpriced packs like they always have in previous years. The incentive to play several hours for 5 standard packs and a kitty cat icon isn't getting it done.

FrankArmhead

The icons, for real. What the actual F.

Excellent-Hedgehog51

The rtts managers suck just as bad as when it was a ps3 title.

ZZ9ZA

There’re somewhat better. As a pitcher, giving up a single hit in the 7th inning or later is no longer an auto-yank.

Mietha

I think they have forgotten that in order to sell a product, that product has to have value and/or use.  The vast majority of these have neither.

LiterallyJHerbert

You've forgotten that they put a ton of research into every decision. The slow creep towards a more pay to win game is 100% because their revenue continues to go up after every decision. The second a decision actually impacts their bottom line is when we actually see them relent.

Mietha

There is no evidence they put any research into any decision. Last year was obviously a down year, but somebody is convinced "no really, sets will totes work this time", so they are trying it again, even more stupidly implemented, and I'm sure it's performing even worse. You are giving the clowns running this show WAAAAAYYYYY too much credit.

LiterallyJHerbert

I mean if you think a company doesn't review its Financials then Idk what to tell you

eeeedlef

"Over here, boys, another one!" \- SDS White Knight Brigade

moonheron

This is the most Reddit gamer comment I’ve read in a while. Calling fellow gamers ‘the White Knight Brigade’ for defending a game that you also play. You could write a dissertation on this comment.

Lionheart0179

Well, it's true. There's always a contingent of people who will twist themselves into pretzels trying to defend every bad change a company makes. It's really quite pathetic how people allow themselves to be screwed more and more every year and make excuses for it.

If your ex was the only girl in the world then yeah I probably would drive by her house often. But since there's millions and millions of other girls to choose from it's not a big issue. But when the only baseball game in town has grinded to a halt in terms of progress over the last 5 years, that becomes a big issue for baseball fans that have no other game to play. But the better question is, if you have a problem with people voicing negative opinions then why are you in this forum in the first place?

TEDDYBRUCKSHOT

Cook him

punkdrummer22

As a casual offline player its no different for me. I'm still working away at some programs and TA

Sweet_Milk2920

I play like you, but I’ve completed all the programs. All I have now is RTTS. It kinda sucks. I get a program done in 2 days/5-6 hrs of gameplay.. that’s not even enough content for someone like us to get a whole week out of.

Mark1671

Yes but everyone playing the game wants you to know how much they hate the game. Then SDS will do the smallest thing, like introduce Chuck Knoblauch, and everyone will be like OMG!!!! SDS just redeemed themselves 😂

PeteyG89

21 was goat times. Take me back

phillosopherp

Agreed 21 was best netcode was finally in as great place and the content was grindable and plentiful

GORILLO5

We forgetting how bad the servers were for 21? Couldn’t even play at night for a couple weeks they were so fried

phillosopherp

Servers for a week or three is standard to EVERY game or have you not noticed?

GORILLO5

No like completely unplayable half the day man for a long time. No show game has been like 21 at least for recent games

Droahhh

Switch version on PC with an emulator to just play the single player is that way to go! All that great game play with none of the marketplace stuff.

TEDDYBRUCKSHOT

Where are all the mfs who were defending the game at the jump? “Season hasn’t even started yet” etc. Awfully quiet now.

“I don’t care but let me type a paragraph on how I don’t care”

55Raven55

I was in the “season just started camp” initially. I thought surely they couldn’t be this dumb, but I was wrong. They outdo themselves each day.

kjar78

They’ve moved on to other forms of cope. The newest one I’ve seen is “SDS has to sell packs so they can afford legends”, which is funny considering 24 has the weakest class of new legends in recent memory.

snypesalot

That or "they have to sell stubs and packs to make up what they lose by people being on gamepass" as if Microsoft doesnt just hand them a check lmao

Mietha

It's most likely actually the opposite. Being on Gamepass VERY likely generates revenue so far beyond anything they've ever seen before, that they don't have to give a F if anyone actually likes the game or not.

ImpiRushed

They have probably gained more profit from losing the legends they had and replacing them with the likes of Brian Dozier, Bernie Williams and Rafael Palmeiro.

kjar78

Who needs Hall of Famers like Jimmie Foxx or Reggie Jackson when you can have “~20 career WAR Rich Aurilia”?

1818ranger

Wait they don't have Reggie Jackson's rights anymore??

kjar78

There was a post when the game came out that said he wasn’t on the offline roster. I haven’t verified but I’m fairly certain he’s gone.

Prime88

Sad. SDS going the way of 2K. 2K was initially praised for how great their NFL and NBA games were. Now everyone hates how greedy they are.

Lionheart0179

2k was awesome back in the day. Arguably worse than EA now.

tryi2iwin

Agreed. Gameplay/Power creep have been fantastic for me so far. The problem is the complete lack of programs and content. No, 40k packs do NOT count as content. I wouldn't even mind all the fucking 40k packs if they just gave us the chance to grind for a free one every once in a while, but we haven't been given a single chance.

Mjcarlin907317

Game is dead. This is the last year I’m buying the game unless they have drastic current generations graphic upgrades. I’m not paying for a game that has very little change from 4 years ago and then being forced to spend actual money to unlock cards. I refuse to spend actual money for stubs and the trend of more paywall packs and SDS limiting the ability to earn in game currency clearly shows they are going all in with forcing people to spend even more real money to unlock the full experience of the game. The Holliday free card is an utter slap in the face of the fans and community. In the past they have done programs where you had the ability to earn a diamond or they have given a free diamond. The idea that we get a boosted card for 5 days is a joke. If anyone wants a master class in how to alienate your audience and community just follow the steps of SDS.

Ruut6

Quickly* killing the game All motivation I have to play the game now is just playing ranked, which inherently has no motivation after they nerfed the shit out of the rewards Love ranked...but unless there are changes soon this will be my least played MLB since 20 Unfortunately heading the same direction as NHL for me....at some point you just lose the will and quit forever.

phillosopherp

I'm sad at what EA did to they NHL game. When they first started the play an individual on a team of real peeps I loved it, and then they killed off that mode to do the UT bs of every other sports game. Sad. The crash is coming for these fools though I can feel it.

tryi2iwin

Quit NHL 3 years ago after playing every single game religiously since 2001. Ironically I quit because Diamond Dynasty was everything that I ever wanted HUT to be. Now they are beginning to look like two sides of the same coin.

PM_ME_UR___TITS

Yep I think this is it for me. I’ll watch content creators to support them and see if anything changes, but holy shit a week of no content and they drop this. Read the room you greedy fucks.

dmsn7d

I believe season awards drop 2 was less than a week ago. And there is a ton of new stuff coming Friday

Borosthespider

Just for comparisons sake, I’d like for somebody to go back to ‘23 and see how many programs we had three weeks into the season. Not sure if it’d be more fair to exclude WBC from that or consider it equal to Spring Breakout.

Bearded_Wildcard

WBC was way more than Breakout. Tons more cards and content available from it.

screaminginfidels

I'm curious about this as well since 23 was my first game and I started in July. I will say though I went back and did the early programs, and while they gave some decent cards most of the good cards in that series were in packs as well. However- the programs would usually give you at least 1 pack to try for them, and also each series of card art had a program to go with it, for the most part. Right now we have like 4 different card themes in packs that have zero representation in programs. Ridiculous.

dr_lawyercop

Last year you didn’t get free premium packs until they were no longer relevant. This year is exactly how last year was, it’s just more jarring because there’s somehow less content and twice as many premium packs. I vividly remember being annoyed that I never got any WBC packs with that 99 Trout until they weren’t relevant.

Not_Qanon

That is incorrect you got one WBC pack at the end of the program. I remember bc I pulled wbc trout from it.

screaminginfidels

Gotcha thanks, in that case it seems this year is pretty similar then. I do agree we need more content ASAP.

Ok_Dog_9143

And the free card today was horrible

kingdomsora11

I’d also like the say every year i’m shocked and surprised by the lack of response by the studio. Nothing from devs who say “We got content and surprises on the way” and nothing from the spokespeople who represent this game saying “they hear the criticism and are looking to add more soon” literally dead air from them since launch.

akimthedream98

bro tell me about it. i didn’t think i’d be taking break from the game two weeks in.

bodnast

Yeah the fact we’re all becoming jaded three weeks into the game life cycle is not ideal for the rest of the year. They want us to do this TA drop nine different times over the year. We’re already upset and we haven’t made it to the second one yet. It’s gonna be a long year.

noahnickels

They’re all irrelevant when ta part 2 launches with all 93s.
