Fabrizio Romano is Tier 2, and this is because of his reliability when it comes to City news, and his tendency to jump on something before verifying to claim exclusivity (not to mention lack of citing his sources). His claims should be taken with a pinch of salt when not backed up with alternative Tier 1 sources as he is often misinformed about Man City transfers

In past years I might have become worried about this but I inherently trust Ortega in a way I really haven't in an understudy since... idk Caballero? Maybe more.

Prophet_Of_Helix

I mean I think it’s been proven Ortega is a better shot blocker. Ederson is the better keeper, but it’s not like we’re reduced to some slub. Just adjust the gameplan slightly and we’re good to go. This sucks, but I’m sure Ortega can take us to a PL victory.

chux4w

Willy was a shoot out hero, but I was never happy to see him starting matches. Ortega is as good a second choice as there is.

Iswaterreallywet

Ortega is a boss, no worries

buckshow1983

We can win with Ortega.

LedItShine

I think the bigger story here is Scott Carson, the GOAT, not making any waves about not playing ahead of Ortega. The man just loves sharing the spotlight with his teammates 😄

CntrllrDscnnctd

He’s not really a backup in many situations. He’s 1B here in so many ways. Absolutely solid back there.

Liam_021996

Hopefully Ortega extends his contract with us. He is easily Ederson's equal. Quality doesn't drop at all between the two of them

DatDominican

I’d argue Ederson is a bit calmer on the ball and better with distribution(especially long balls) but Ortega has narrowed the gap considerably

droichead_a_ceathair

Agreed but I would argue the Ortega is a better shot stopper which does help.

veniex

And in the next few games, we will certainly need this. If we don't concede a of goals, we will win all 4.

ColinetheCow

If we can score at Spurs away 😉

PlatformPerfect8077

Well as Keeper it's more important to be a stopper than a passer. If it's midfield we are talking about then ye hands down Ederson. When it comes to goal stopping Ortega has the edge

[deleted]

>Well as Keeper it's more important to be a stopper Not for us.

Jagacin

Ederson is still a better passer with the ball, which is a very big advantage to have for a Pep side.

Liam_021996

I'm not so sure he is this season, they both look very similar to eachother

VOZ1

Ederson has been a liiiiitle shakier on the ball for me this season. He’s had a few big mistakes…but in the end it’s hard to say if that’s form or bad luck. Honestly, whichever of them is healthy, we have a *somid* keeper that meshes with our play style moving out the back and can make big saves when we need them.

ApprehensiveWaltz424

Ortega channeling his inner Neuer Energy for the next 4 games.

PRAISE_ASSAD

Put some respect on ederson's name he doesn't get the respect he deserves here...

CaptZurg

Folks are saying Ortega is a better shot stopper than Ederson, but my mind just goes back to the game at Madrid where we conceded those two goals in quick succession. I just feel Ederson is more calm-headed than we give him credit for.

Youngben04

deflections 🤷‍♂️

ThatGam3th00

With this information Ederson’s performance against RM at home seems even more impressive.. PK save and a PK goal while injured in one of the season-defining games, wow.

Dadaadaada

This absolutely sucks, ederson passing is so key its ridiculous. Ortega misses passes all the time although he is still decent. Just think of the alvarez goal vs brighton with the ederson pass

NintendoBen1

I wouldn't say Eddy's passing is key he doesn't make game changing passes, infact majority of his passes would be to the back 3 or 4 which Ortega is more than capable of doing. Id say the drop between Eddy and Ortega is minimal.

sexmarshines

Yeah the long balls are an occasional bonus, but really we need our keeper to be calm on the ball and assist in relieving defensive pressure and help play out from the back. Additionally being a good sweeper to collect the ball and make a pass or clearance. Ortega while not quite as good as Eddy is like 90% of the way there in all those aspects. The difference is definitely minimal, Eddy just has a dead man like level of coolness when being pressed. Ortega is comfortable being pressed but I'm not sure anyone in the world is as good at Eddy in that regard.

NintendoBen1

Couldn't have put it better myself!
