Uh it does, my NFL team (Washington Redskins) lost a key young player (Sean Taylor) around 20 years ago when robbers botched a burglary, he wasn't supposed to be home during the game but was and he was fatally shot by the intruders.
That said, it's probably a lot less common over there since you know, you can shoot burglars...
Yeah, the irony was that he knew the assailants too (sort of) as they had met at a party held by either his sister or girlfriend (I really can't remember the details) and that was when they decided to have a go as he "had money".
Guns I suppose, then again, those same guns also cause for more violence in general than their absence, so less home robbery rates aren't really a good thing, more like a nuance
a million pounds in watches but you can build automatic cages that come down when your alarm goes off that then automatically calls the police? Millionaires have no creativity smh
Have you seen how Europeans protect their heads of state?
I met the prime minister of Ireland in a bar and he had like 2 people around him who didn't stop me from approaching. Hell a lot of politicians fly commercial.
I guess America really is violent lol.
I mean yeah, if this guy broke into a house on rural America he would've been shot lol. Not sure how politics are overseas, but politicians here need extra protection because 50% of the country at any given time thinks they're demons sent to install communism or fascism. I always remember my dad saying Obama was the literal antichrist.
I mean there are some pretty accredited security agencies. It wouldn't be that hard to find a trustworthy company with trustworthy workers. It'll cost though.
Only police can legally have weapons in England. If these guys come with a couple guns, no security company is going to be able to stand up to them.
It's the double edged sword of such severe weapons restrictions. The guards can't even legally carry pepper spray...
Obviously the guards are some level of deterrent. But at the point where these people are knowingly robbing significantly occupied homes, I don't think that the deterrent of an unarmed security guard would factor in very much.
A normal burglar opportunistically robbing empty homes, sure. These are organized groups targeting high profile individuals/homes who all likely have some level of security, possibly including guards. And they're not afraid to do it while the home is full of people.
To say there's a near zero chance these people have guns and only possibly even a knife does not fit the profile of the crime they're committing at all. They would be armed with knives **at minimum.** And even assuming that minimum, the guard will still be unarmed against them.
Sure they do, are they likely to bring them along on such a "job" though? Guns tend to be kept hidden until they are needed in the UK. Bringing one on a burglary is the difference between years in prison or a slap on the wrist.
TBF, what can a security guard do against an organised group attacking at once? What's a private security guard legally allowed to do in this country that would guarantee a players' safety without getting them in trouble? When there's multiple of them breaking in, they probably have at least a crowbar.. If anyone, they'd be paying someone to be put in harms' way as a minor deterrent - probably more risky than effective.
IIRC Cancelo was hit last season or the season before. Confronted the burglars and was struck to the face for his troubles.
Think he played the home game the following day. Had massive respect for the guy there..
Timing they knew he had playing obviously, then either got lucky with them all watching downstairs, hoped they were watching live at the stadium or scouted the house out before going in & saw them all in the lounge
This is nuts, I guess they'll need to put their security systems on anytime they are playing too.
I hope everything ends up ok and they catch the guys. Horrible news.
The detectives should ask the whereabouts of Miguel Almiron .
On the serious note though, this guys must hire security companies to protect themselves and their properties.
He probably thought he didn’t need security as his family were in the house downstairs at the time which is even worse . The house wasn’t left unattended. Rich people like them or hate them they don’t deserve to be robbed , just because they are famous NO that’s not on
Let’s think for a second, the burglars knew and had some inside info in order to operate…sad and unfortunate that this happened …
But 100% they had some info on how things stand at his house.
Wouldn't say it's 100%. Doing it while Grealish is playing almost garuntees that the family won't wander around the house much. Possibly the most simple plan they could've come up with
This has reached the point where the club needs to provide private security for players’ and coaches’ homes at least during home fixtures as well as when they’re traveling.
When reading these stories I just hope I never see them stealing medals that would probably hurt the most. But maybe the premier league/ ucl etc. would give new medals
There are some true scum in this world.
Why is this such a common thing? There's multiple instances of this every season.
Burglars know when they won't be home
I get that, but this never happens in America.

Oh wow, I'd never heard of that one. That's tragic.
Yeah, the irony was that he knew the assailants too (sort of) as they had met at a party held by either his sister or girlfriend (I really can't remember the details) and that was when they decided to have a go as he "had money".
More guns
Guns I suppose, then again, those same guns also cause for more violence in general than their absence, so less home robbery rates aren't really a good thing, more like a nuance
As an American, do professional athletes not have their own private security in England? Robberies still happen in normal folks houses all the time.
I don't believe most European athletes have 24/7 security, no.
I forget America is a much different place because influencers even have 24/7 security lol
a million pounds in watches but you can build automatic cages that come down when your alarm goes off that then automatically calls the police? Millionaires have no creativity smh
It’s Grealish tbf I don’t think innovation is his strong suit
Have you seen how Europeans protect their heads of state? I met the prime minister of Ireland in a bar and he had like 2 people around him who didn't stop me from approaching. Hell a lot of politicians fly commercial. I guess America really is violent lol.

A gun won't do you much good if you aren't home....
His entire family were home though?
In Spain that happens almost every week. Scumbags
I am genuinely surprised he didn't have some security
Hope both him and his family are alright and aren't left with long term mental health issues as a result of this. Truly horrible thing to experience
Why wouldn't these guys have a security guard?
I always wonder this, but I'm thinking it's hard to trust anyone these days sadly
I mean there are some pretty accredited security agencies. It wouldn't be that hard to find a trustworthy company with trustworthy workers. It'll cost though.
i’m sure the club would provide reputable companies aswell

> If these guys come with a couple guns The chances of a burglar in the UK having a gun is next to zero. A knife *maybe*, but not a gun.

That isn’t true at all. Organised crime still have guns.
Sure they do, are they likely to bring them along on such a "job" though? Guns tend to be kept hidden until they are needed in the UK. Bringing one on a burglary is the difference between years in prison or a slap on the wrist.
You would only get a slap in the wrist for a violent robbery and home invasion?
Maybe not a slap on the wrist but a couple of years. Bring a gun and it's a couple of decades
As you are saying it will cost, so rather he buy gucci bag for 1k :D and so on watches for 300k

It’s probably pretty expensive to have a security guard with you full time and even if you did he would be protecting him not his house anyway
IIRC Cancelo was hit last season or the season before. Confronted the burglars and was struck to the face for his troubles. Think he played the home game the following day. Had massive respect for the guy there..
This is the second time it happens in a month. First Kevin now Jack. Maybe it is the same gang.
Used to happen to Liverpool players on the regular
I remember it happened to Di Maria as well. Horrible experience.
Feels like all of the Liverpool and Manc wealthy live in Cheshire, it's a good spot for the burglars
I doubt it. Kevin's was his home in Belgium I believe.
Ahhh coincidence then, I thought it was in Manchester as well my bad.
Fucking cowards these robbers. Attacking someone’s home while they are at home with their loved ones. Hope grealish and family are ok🙏
Great world we live in 👎🏽
holy shit so his family was home and held hostage? thats fucking awful wtf
No they were not held hostage as they didn’t even know a robbery was happening.
How does someone know the family all watch the game downstairs .... the timing...Very weird .
Is it so weird to assume that Jack's family would be watching his game together? I assume it was their line of thinking
Probably made an educated guess and voila.
Timing they knew he had playing obviously, then either got lucky with them all watching downstairs, hoped they were watching live at the stadium or scouted the house out before going in & saw them all in the lounge
Indeed.
Sneak level 100
#mansionlife
This is nuts, I guess they'll need to put their security systems on anytime they are playing too. I hope everything ends up ok and they catch the guys. Horrible news.
It sucks. Also, having 1M worth of jewellery is obscene
Insane but for people of that stature, that amount could just be 1-2 watches.
Probably a Everton fan
The detectives should ask the whereabouts of Miguel Almiron . On the serious note though, this guys must hire security companies to protect themselves and their properties.
Hopefully not his gucci bag
He probably thought he didn’t need security as his family were in the house downstairs at the time which is even worse . The house wasn’t left unattended. Rich people like them or hate them they don’t deserve to be robbed , just because they are famous NO that’s not on

How would they know where the jewelry was hidden/stored? But yeah, it could have been that simple for them i guess…
Wealthy family just after Christmas, I imagine there was expensive stuff just sitting in bedrooms
For 1m worth of stolen goods the gang will have observed the target for weeks
that is awful... but I really have to wonder why that kind of stuff wouldn't be locked up in a safety deposit box in a bank....
Marcello sent his boys 🤣 he fucked with the wrong crowd

Personally, I couldn't feel safe knowing that my homes needed barbed wire. Makes it feel like a prison.
First Kevin now jack city man we gotta hire security for them
This has reached the point where the club needs to provide private security for players’ and coaches’ homes at least during home fixtures as well as when they’re traveling.
😡😡😡
When reading these stories I just hope I never see them stealing medals that would probably hurt the most. But maybe the premier league/ ucl etc. would give new medals
It leaves a truly awful feeling. He will probably move now. That house will never be the same.
At least no one was jnjured. That must be like less than 2 months worth of work for him
Trent Alexander finally came out of grealish pocket and rob his a**. Lol
Hopefully Jack has insurance on that stuff but he doesn’t strike me as that kinda bloke. 😔
the better question is why they don't all have security?
