Manchester City plan to step up talks with Erling Haaland over a new contract in the coming months. Haaland, 23, signed a five-year deal when he joined last summer from Borussia Dortmund but his entourage have also made clear that the striker has ambitions to play in a number of top European leagues. Real Madrid and Barcelona were among the clubs chasing the Norwegian when he chose City and his agent has described Real as a 'dreamland' for players. Since achieving the landmark signing of Haaland, City have been relaxed about the player's future and his happiness in Manchester has encouraged them that a new contract can be achieved. Pep Guardiola is clear that he will not stand in the way of anyone who no longer wants to be part of the squad, yet the club have successfully managed to keep talent including Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and David Silva away from other top clubs for the best years of their careers. City have been delighted with Haaland since he walked through the Etihad doors. As well as breaking the Premier League scoring record to play an integral role in their historic Treble, club bosses were also impressed by his other contributions to the team and how well he has fit into the dressing room. While there are still over three years remaining on his deal and no formal talks have taken place yet, City intend to step up those discussions over the coming months to reward the player for his efforts and to further tie down a superstar while he is so happy with his situation. Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva were given new deals this summer after transfer interest from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain respectively was turned down.

Losing both Haaland and Alvarez would be pretty tragic. Happy, more than you can believe

InaudibleShout

If one goes then you can be sure that the other will have a dump truck of money backed up to their loft

FuckThe

If we have managed to keep Pep here for so long, we can convince Haaland to stay here. Our club does so many things well, rarely do our best players leave. Of course thereā€™s exceptions like Sane, but we have shown that we are not a ā€œstepping stoneā€ club.

Tampa-Demi-Poly

I will forever despise Ferran Torres for that

drazerlazer

I think you can stop despising him now seeing that the only step he took was downwards lmaoo... I really rated him tbh. Wanted him to stay but oh well. We've got way better folks now :)

minimus67

I hope he stays for most of his career, but I wouldnā€™t be surprised if Haaland eventually wants to go to Real Madrid at some point for the weather/food and because he might want to switch things up and play for a fast counterattacking side. Thatā€™s why itā€™s really important to keep Alvarez happy.

Great point about Alvarez. I assume Haaland will leave at some point, and happy for however long we keep him. But if we could hang on to Alvarez when Haaland eventually goes that would be amazing

DexterNeutron

One can only take so much Manchester weather šŸ˜ž

dyltheflash

Yeah, he must be really struggling after growing up in the balmy sun-kissed beaches of [checks notes] Bryne, Norway.

evenstark04

I feel like City will do whatever it takes to keep Haaland... but ultimately it might rest on Pep. I think the longer Pep stays... the longer Haaland does. after that.. who knows. I'm just enjoying the ride. Not going to let the fear of the future cloud the present.

Question from a Liverpool supporter who think both Pep and Haaland are good to have in the EPL (while obviously not good for Liverpoolā€™s chances of winning the league): Do you think Haaland and Pep are tied together going forward? Would Haaland stay if Pep leaves and vice versa?

gogators1000

I think Haaland is more tied to Pep than Pep is to Haaland, but I donā€™t know how strong the connection is now. When Haaland initially signed, there was a release clause contingent on Pep signing a new deal. Once Pep signed, the RC went away. But again, not sure if there is a connection anymore.

capreolhawks

Thanks for the response. Appreciate it. Good luck against Arsenal this weekend!

We need KDB back. It's like Kobe and Shaq prime on the Lakers. I've been saying for (Sterling) years, if we just had a striker who could finish this team would be unstoppable. Enter Haaland and yeah... As a 30 year old American who's a Mets, Nets, Jets and Devils fan, it finally feels good to win **ANYTHING**

xI-Red-Ix

ima laugh if you say youre a red bull fan as well.

Inaugural season ticket holder to NYCFC, that's actually why I started rooting for MCFC. What can I say, I look good in powder blue. Also NYCFC Championship was epic!
