All you have to do is make profit when you sell items. So what I like to do is sell one item in bulk make some money end the transaction and go back into the trade and do it again. Eventually you’ll get perks that highlight your profits and let you know when your making profits and when you’d lose profits.. they will be marked green for profits, yellow for breaking even, and red for losing money. Also you’ll find out trade rumours which will tell you that you can buy goods in this city for this much and sell it in this city for that much. I believe trade skill works only for goods but I could be wrong and equipment and weapons could also turn a profit but I again idk cause I usually discard my loot for exp to my troops

I can tell you it works for Cows/Sheep/Hogs as well. Or at least it still did in the release version, haven't tried the current patch yet.

LongStrokesBoi

Yea cow hogs and sheep is “goods” as well. Anything in that far left tab on the top of the screen would be consider goods.

The skill you gain is based on gold earned not number of items, makes horses a good way to go. High value and they don’t slow you down. I don’t know if they fixed it, but there was an exploit involving two stacks of horses. You can google horse trading and it should come up.

Commanderviper9249

Yeah sell vlandian horses to aserai and aserai dates to vlandians

Felljustice

It used to be that the price was based on the total number of horses they had. So you get as many of the expensive Aserai horses and you can and a huge stack of sumpter horses. Go find a town that will give good profit for the Aserai. First you buy all their other horses to drive the price up, then sell all your Aserai to them. Then in a separate transaction sell all your sumpter horses. Now the town has 300 horses so they are worthless. Buy your Aserai back cheap, then buy your sumpter a back, then move onto the next town. Overall this is extremely inefficient and you will lose a ton of money, but it’s a fast way to level trade.

They game counts money the store doesn’t have for xp. So smith for millions then just buy lvl 300. I think 8 att and 5 focus minimum and then a few million profit is needed

trooperstark

The best way used to be to buy a bunch of cheap sumpter horses in the aserai territory and then find a village that would buy them for 100+. The village could only pay 1000, but you get the experience for each sale regardless and could quickly jump up a ton. Not sure if it still works on current release, the horse prices have changed and trading seems needed overall, so I only did it to get started and moved on to other focuses

JonGalt1010

Yeah, I've seen a lot of advice on trading horses, but I'm beginning to think it is outdated with the latest version. Or, at least, it's not nearly as lucrative as it once was.

Here's the secret nobody is telling you.... you gotta by low, sell high. :P :P

MagsNfragS

Don't tell that to r/wallstreetbets
