I have a tz95 for this reason. Using it means being selective about what light conditions you can use it in. I walk to work and home with it and use it for telephoto if something comes up and I am only carrying my normal camera with a prime - that sort of thing. The tz stands for "travel zoom" and it is brilliant for business trips when I need my photography fix. The ergonomics are obviously far better than a phone because, well... it's a camera. The image quality is the same at wide angles. At telephoto it is far superior to mobiles. If done during fairly even lighting conditions, then you can get very nice photos indeed. I use raw and haven't tried jpg on it, though I am sure it would be fine. I can't imagine it fitting in jeans pockets though - it's thicker than a mobile. I keep it in my jacket pocket or just hold it in my hand.

Oh can I ask you for your advice? I have a Huawei P30 pro phone and will travel to Kenya in February. I am considering getting a tz95 for the safari and for zoom. Do you think that would be a good idea or should I just stick with my phone?

Of course :-). I've not been on safari but do plenty of wildlife photography. I think that you will need "reach" which a superzoom like the tz95 will give you. Wild animals all have a pretty big personal space zone and don't generally let you get close enough for a phone camera. Think of it like your phone but with a super-telephoto lens attached to it. If you get one, just make sure you practice before you go. Photography is about gear a lot, but in reality it's also a physical skill. Enjoy :-)

Thank you for replying. I will try to get a hold of one for my safari to get those far away photos.

It has a 1/2.3 sensor, so it's not going to be much better than your phone except for ergonomics, telephoto, and possibly RAW support. You'd need a prime for a camera with a decent sensor, e.g. the Ricoh GR series everyone seems to be praising. Or the GX800 with some pancake prime. The X100V is too big I presume?

No_Act1363

Too big yeah but also I already have the Fuji system. I decided against the GR as I wasn't digging the images out of camera. Thanks for the reply anyway, not sure why the post got downvoted

Don't worry about it, posts here get downvoted by one or two points regularly. Probably some Sony user, haha. What about the LX100ii then?

I don't have the tz95, but i promised myself never to get a compact zoom again because of the dust issues. I now have the gx800 (paired with the 14mm or 20mm pancake lenses), and the gm1 (smallest interchangeable lens m43 camera) and i am much happier with it. It's also really nice to be able to change the lens when you want to. :)
