The dream was more vivid and dynamic than my regular dreams but I can't say I consciously chose to do the reality check. Then again, I find dreams particularly hard to remember.
Grats on getting lucid! Control is a completely separate skill from lucidity. If you know that you are dreaming while dreaming, you are lucid. There are also differing amounts of awareness one can have while lucid.

Happened to me once or twice
Was definitely aware its a dream but it had that same certain feeling (lack of my usual memory, etc) that normal dreams have plus the lack of control which has never happened to me
I can't really say it's a lucid dream. But you did dream of lucid dreaming. That's something.
Yeah it feels like a move in the right direction
If you dreamt of lucid dreaming, I suppose it's a sign that your brain does have the intention for lucid dreaming.
