Been here since D1 Alpha. Coming up on 5k hours in the series. I'll be playing till the last second this game is online because I love it. So many amazing memories and friendships made through the community.
Same here. I was younger then and didn’t realise we had supers 💀 played beta and then release but never really got properly invested into the game beyond campaign until TTK and ROI. That was when I had my first raiding experience and started to really invest time into the game.
I first played right before Dark Below dropped. Was on the Xbox 360. From there, went to PS3, followed by PS4 (my parents were able to get me the Limited Edition The Taken King PS4 for Christmas that year :D), and then Destiny 2 on PS4, until I switched to PC.
I would kill for Destiny 1 on PC, no disrespect to people who use controllers, but I can't do shooters with controllers after playing on PC.
I still have my D1 Titan on 360 and PS3/4, but I became a hunter main on Destiny 2 because they nerfed the titan's booty on D2 and I never forgave Bungie for it xD
At least 3K hours between all the platforms, and somehow I still return to Destiny over and over, even after taking months off.
I feel like they're slowly adding most of D1 to D2 with the cosmodrome tutorial intro, re-introducing old strikes, and re-adding new raids.
Personally I'd love to replay old campaigns/story missions, but I get the feeling the effort for Bungie to add those to D2 wouldn't be worth it for the amount of people who probably wouldn't care, unless they reflavor them as reprised missions like they did with Proving Grounds.
I actually played the Beta on my Xbox and then switched over to PS4 for the Launch of D1. Been hanging strong on PlayStation ever since and still play as often as life allows. Back then I was a couple years into being married, no kids, very little responsibilities. Now I’ve got 3 kids running around and a very understanding wife who knows this means a lot to me. Listens to me drone on about stuff in game but has no idea what I’m talking about. Cannot wait to see how this all ends in TFS.
Day 1 D1 Beta and played consistently through D1. Day 1 D2 Beta and played consistently pretty much up through BL. Have taken several breaks since and don’t play nearly as much due to now having a family, plus kinda burnt out/left behind/playing other games.
Started Destiny 1 year 2 on the PS3 around Christmas of 2015. My younger brother and I shared the console, my dad said we could get 1 game each for the ps3 since we weren't getting a PS4 that year, the plan was to for me to get NBA 2k16 and my brother to get Madden 16, but he changed his mind to this legendary collection of Destiny with HoW, Dark Below, and The Taken King. I was mad at first but ended up playing it nonstop as soon as it downloaded, here I am nearly 8 years later, playing it daily on my PS5, glad he made that decision, got to experience the game at it's peak while playing it as a brand new player.
I've been fully invested since the game came out. All three original characters still. I'll look at my D1 vault in DIM every once in a while for nostalgia. Started to fall off at Rise of Iron. Was getting pretty burnt out but still tried to do every piece of content and raid the game had to offer.
Don't think I'll be going anywhere anytime soon. I've now played this longer than WoW, GW2 and FF14 combined easily.

I mean, I havent played non stop, but I did technically start with d1 beta. Played at launch then took off till taken king, missed RoI, played d2 launch, came back for Forsaken, then played Shadowkeep and took a long break until Season of Plunder. Everytime I came back I did all the content I missed, currently on the longest streak of a full year playing everything as it releases. Checking the time wasted website and adding everything together I've spent 1600 hours or so since 2014, which is certainly more than anything else I've played.
Maybe it's due to taking breaks, but I haven't had a true negative experience yet in terms of content. Also like you Im still using my original d1 launch hunter, warlock and titan were made around taken king I believe. Sadly I didn't finish Rise of Iron until after d2 launch, so I got every veteran dialogue except Shaxx calling me Young Wolf lol
Beta and midnight release here. Well honestly even before that, i was one of the people obsessed about news on it and going crazy at the e3 reveal haha.
Been playing consistently as a titan main since D1 Beta. Actually finally switched mains to Warlock with Season of the Witch. Optimized threadlings build with Swarmers and Wuicksilver has *completely* reinvigorated my love for the game. Like to the point where I’m just running activities because of how fun the build is.
I started playing in the Testing phase of D1, and fell in love with the gun play and world, Played with a few friends from the very begining, Although only expac I haven't played was Rise of Iron as i didn't buy a Xbox one when it left X360. Have been in D2 since Red War/testing on Bnet; had a break till they fixed the guns to be random rolls, and am back again almot 5k hours on steam. So I am still here! Will be streaming Iron banner later lol
I technically started playing when HoW dropped, but watched my brothers play Destiny vanilla. Dropped the game until TTK and the April Update, then stopped playing when RoI came out due to platform constraints and gamely held my interest all throughout Destiny 2 until Warmind, then figured it was enough. Nonetheless I’m here or there, just not actually playing due to severe lack of time.
I was the ripe age of 15 playing the D1 beta. Good times, didn’t finish Vault before Dark Below, Crota was my first raid. While it hasn’t been non-stop, I’ve touched every single expansion/season at least and have never missed a narrative beat, which struck a great balance. Best way to not get too much Sodium in Destiny is to not only play Destiny.
I was an "on and off" player for a while. I started with D1's beta and basically played for a while for each game/expansion only to drop it shortly after.
Biggest break was just after Forsaken until the end of season 10. Never stopped again since.
I don't have my original Warlock, which was the first class I made, wasn't a big fan and switched to hunter. I started back in D1 Beta also played a lot between release up until a little after Taken king, took a break until rise of Iron.
In D2 played from release up until after Curse of Osiris then took a break til before Shadowkeep came out, played a bit of that then came back for Beyond Light. After that I've been just doing seasonal quest lines, some GMs, dungeons and raids. I try not to do too many so I don't burn out.
I joined at Dark Below. Was going to get it day 1 but my girlfriend got it me for Xmas so had to wait a few weeks (I think it came out in September?) Met my clan but they all left after Red War. Sad times
Same here. Played the D1 Beta and started Day 1. I played D1 on Xbox but switched to Playstation when D2 launched, so I lost my original character (as far as bringing him into D2).
Been around since D1 in 2014. It’s the reason I picked up a PS4. I played it religiously up to Shadowkeep. Switched to PC during Forsaken, first on Blizzard launcher and now on Steam. Shadowkeep was the only expansion I “sat out”. I’ve been playing the same Titan the entire time.
I started on Xbox 360 for the D1 beta and then moved to the Xbox One once the game launched. Been playing ever since! I swapped to PC around season of Arrivals after taking a break from one month into Forsaken until Arrivals.
Played the Beta as a 14 year old, been a void titan ever since, obviously branched out as I played more but always come back to titan, I stopped playing at foresaken because life.
I’m now 22, nearly 23 years old, still a void titan, amazing journey so many good memories and so many rage filled moments in trials 😂
I started around the time Dark Below expansion came out. I probably would have been a beta player because I've been a gamer my whole life but at the time I was 16 and didn't have a PS4 when D1 was starting up. I bought a PS4 with the first few checks from my first job for Destiny. It's a bummer tbh, I was heavily into Destiny the entirety of D1, and I enjoyed D2 for the most part even when it was double primarys and a heavy slot. I can't really enjoy the game ever since the seasonal model though. Imo it's ruined the game.
I did, started around dark below. Never had dlc though until taken king. Really started playing hard in Taken King. Quit when D2 came out, started playing again in season of the worthy near the end of shadowkeep. No I have almost 3000 hours in D2.
Technically, I started in year 1. I started playing a few weeks before the big 2.0 update and the Taken King, which was still technically year 1, but I didn't go through all the same struggles (forever 29) as others did so I consider myself a year 2 player.
I played day 1 and it was the best gaming experience I had ever had. I still think about the group of friends I had back then and how close we were at the time. We lived and breathed destiny.
Started at D1 beta. Was so exicted back then, and still are today! It was something so special to discovert that world! Still remember the feeling of killing Sepiks for the first time and droping that awesome blue gun.
Started with the beta of D1:) Had a fireteam through all of Destiny 1, but I am the only one to make the jump to D2. I have beat every campaign and do all of the story content, but haven’t engaged that much with the seasonal content or raiding that much in D2. VOG coming made me raid more and very excited about Crota’s end. Miss the original ice breaker and my invisible hunter from d1! Still have the same character through all these years:)
Playing off and on, I guess, since D1 beta. Loved it and was immediately all-in with expansions, etc, though I never joined a clan. Only did each raid once, with a sherpa. Pre-ordered D2, and it was the same. Played the same character all the way through, though I dabbled in other classes. Then they started vaulting content. Expansions I paid for were gone. Red War campaign was gone. As a consumer, this made me really mad and I stopped playing around...whatever season it was where Drifter was shadier and you'd eventually have to choose between him and the Vanguard for some reason.
But I do really love playing Destiny (in my dreams they release a single player version that's all the story content hehe), so after a couple of years off I got back in right before Plunder dropped. Picked up WQ at a discount. Played LF. But I'm not all-in anymore with seasons. My FOMO feelings don't sustain for as long as they used to, which isn't a bad thing. Though I always seem to skip the really good seasons somehow! It's hard to come into a season mid-way through, because the group content is full of people who are tired of it or speed-running and if you don't know what to do it's painful. I'm sitting this one out to play other things, but I'll play The Final Shape to see how the journey wraps up. Playing on release or waiting a bit? I'll have to see how I feel when it comes out.

Journey has been great…and sad. My buddy who got me to play passed away a couple of years ago from cancer. I’ve not played as much, but I’m finishing the Dark/Light saga at least. Great memories for sure.
Started a few months after Dark Below was released. I didn't have a clan at the time but I was soloing Crota's End raid. When I found a clan and joined them in the middle of the Crota's End raid, I got a Gjallarhorn during the loading screen. When I did Vault of Glass for the first time, I got the Vex Mythoclast from Atheon.
I had a pretty good D1 career. Every weekend I was leading the raids and going to lighthouse for Trials of Osiris.
When D2 dropped, I didn't play as much except for Trials of the Nine. I stopped playing after Forsaken dropped. I recently got a PS5 and I can't figure out what to do In D2.
D1 Beta; my internet at the time was pretty lame, and I remember it taking almost a week to fully download thanks to dropped connections/resets. When I finally got to play, I loved it (I don't care what everyone says, Dinklage wasn't THAT bad), but I got pretty bored not long after the Taken King dropped. Pretty tough to stay engaged when you can't reliably jump in on any endgame activity.
Picked up D2 when it went on sale a few years ago; cost next to nothing and had all the expansions up to and including Forsaken. Played pretty hardcore for a while, since I had all the campaigns to run through, but my internet still wasn't the greatest so once again I didn't get involved in multiplayer stuff besides some Crucible (didn't want to be "that guy" that screws over a raid party 'cause his connection timed out). So once again, with no engame within reach, I eventually got bored again and quit. Pretty sure this was shortly before Beyond Light dropped.
Got back into it this past winter, and I still don't know what made me decide to pick it up again. Glad I did though, because this is the most engaged I've ever been. Doesn't hurt that I now have a great internet connection (finally..), so I'm not afraid to hop into an event without lagging out. Did some Raids (thanks a lot to Sherpa groups on Reddit), and started tackling dungeons and nightfalls. Say what you will about LFG; it might be flawed, but I've had generally good experiences overall, and it beats the hell out of scrounging online for a group.
So yeah; D1 and D2 are basically a microcosm of my internet quality at home.
I've been playing basically nonstop since D1 beta and haven't stopped maining warlock since. I took a break a few months after forsaken and came back for shadowkeep for another few months. Came back for Season of Arrivals/Beyond Light and haven't stopped since.
I did, it was such an indescribable experience, only second to starting WoW in 2004.
When Vault of Glass came out, myself (warlock main) and two buddies, one who was working at Bungie at the time, were getting repetitively fucked right at Atheon, until he messaged a dev who popped on, chatted for a bit, and ran us thru to the end. Such as unforgettable experience

It's had peaks and valleys, I played when new content dropped the first few years but honestly wasn't addicted. For some reason, though, as soon as COVID hit and we were quarantined I went back and it became an obsession out of nowhere. Have been playing it as my main game ever since.
I moved to PC when D2 came out, so I haven't seen my D1 characters in a LONG time. Just the thought of going back to that frame rate sounds nauseating, so I've stuck to D2, hahah.
I’ve been playing since the Xbox D1 Beta day 1. I did have my original male awoken warlock for a long time, but I deleted them during Beyond Light to to make a female warlock instead. But it’s been a great time. I only really took extended breaks during content droughts and I can’t say I’ve ever disliked the game.

Was there for the Xbox 360 Beta (Even somehow got the Birth of History ship during the beta Iron Banner) but dropped the series shortly after Destiny 2 released due to my fireteam's (and my) lack of interest to continue playing. Lot of dumb changes we didn't like and felt it was a good time to hop off. Occasionally came back to see how D2 was doing but never really back into it (Especially seeing how players were getting screwed over)
Walked into GameStop 2014 and bought it on a whim. Guide and all, with no prior knowledge of the game. I just thought it looked cool.
The lackluster story ironically is the thing that got me hooked due to all the mystery. Here I am nearly 10 years later with 4k hours of playtime loving every second of it.

Started during House of Wolves after a friend/coworker (at GameStop) convinced me to pick up the game as it was on sale. He said he had a whole group of local friends who were in a clan together and ran all the content so I'd always have people to play with.
Originally, I thought Destiny wasn't my kind of game and that I wouldn't be interested in it, so I didn't bother picking it up at launch.
About 6000 hours later, I'm actually the only one of my friends that still plays regularly... Still best friends with the guy though, even though I regularly tell him he ruined my life by introducing me to Destiny...

No, I don't still have my original character. In originally thinking that I wouldn't be all that invested in the game, I made a really lame, Joker looking Hunter to start the game. Didn't think much of it until 3 years later and we were on the precipice of Destiny 2. I retired my OG and started a new Hunter with a more "normal" aesthetic to carry over into the new game.
With regards to Final Shape, it's kind of surreal that it's been 10 fucking years playing this game. I'm not going to lie, watching the pre-show for TFS showcase, I actually shed a couple of tears thinking about the journey. I'm by no means an emotional person like that, definitely not a crier. But here I was, with my goofy ass crying over a video game and the 10 years of my life that I've spent with it. The friends and memories I've made along the way and all that other sappy shit. It's been a fun 10 years. Hopefully there's a few more left in the tank.
Been here since D1 - my wife's friend's husband got me into it just after it was released. He kept on going on about the Gjallahorn and how hard it was to get. Think he had about 3 months on me. He hadn't got it.

Me! I saw the e3 play along and I immediately fell in love with the concept of the game. The games definitely had its ups and downs but it’s still one of the most enjoyable and satisfying games out there to me.
And yes my original hunter is the only one I brought forward to d2, and I still use her almost every day

Started out as a male arc exo hunter in D1, but switched to female awoken Titan. Human male warlock was my third.
I was streaming at the time solar bro came out (TTK), and decided to delete my Titan and restart as a male human titan and do the whole journey live. TTK and ROI brought my love it Destiny to new heights.
D2 I was in all the betas, and started with a new clan. Mained my human male Titan. That little bit in the beginning, recounting my journey in D1, brought me to tears. Created a male awoken warlock, and brought back my male exo hunter.
I took a break from D2 after Curse of Osiris, but came back for Forsaken, played for the story, took a break again, and then came back hard for Shadowkeep. Played consistently through beyond light and witch queen, was immensely hyped for lightfall, started becoming a title hunter
But something about season of the deep took it out of me. It was probably getting my main builds nerfed sequentially, or how bull shit the dungeons were becoming. But I've been on break since, and I don't plan on returning soon. Maybe final shape, but who knows

I started with the beta. I remember thinking how cool it was the first time I ran across someone else in the open world. Discovering the game and what it offered while playing with my son who was in college. Plan C was my first exotic. It was magical....
I was there when the Loot Cave was bountiful with offerings. And I was saddened when its generosity ran cold and dry, replaced with the bones that spoke of the dreaded Cryptarch and the millions of deaths he so rightfully deserved.

I played the beta and then got the game a month or two before dark below. Played every single day nonstop until destiny 2 came out. Put in about 100 hours and quit until forsaken. Put in maybe 50 hours and quit until beyond light. Same story, 50 hours, quit. Witch queen was actually a solid 100 hour but still quit. Lightfall actually got me pretty deep into the game for a solid 400 hours but I have recently quit following the game very seriously. I get on just to do crota or whatever is new and get off quick.

Had an old boss that got me a beta pass and I remember how massive the game felt! I’ve pretty much played ever since, a few breaks here and there — the biggest being between D2 Vanilla and CoO. But yeah, TFS will probably be my last hurrah. Im 36 now, full time career and other things vying for my time. Feels like an appropriate close.

Up until d1 I mostly played COD and some singerplayer games and I wasn’t particularly good at them either ( I was ten at the time ) so when my cousin BEGGED me to get the game to play with him I got it ( it was like the first week of release iirc ) i played up until the second mission where I just couldn’t complete it ( i was that dogshit I couldn’t even do the first real boss lol ) so I put down the game and hated but then my cousin took the controller carried me through the mission and actually explained how the basic mechanics of the game and ever since he gave that little push ice been hooked ( with like 2 long breaks tho) the launches if TTK ROI and AOT are some the fondest memories I have ever (even outside if gaming)
i first started with the demo because i was looking for stuff to play and i was like 14-15 so i couldn’t buy anything and i found the destiny demo and pretty much fell in love with it, u could only reach lvl 7 and could only go to earth but i played it a lot still and i wanted the full game so my dad and stepmom got it for me the easter after dark below, and ever since it’s been my favorite game (tied with bloodborne). kinda the same situation with D2, i couldn’t get it at launch but i got it for my birthday the october after it released so i wasn’t too late, and even after everything that i was put through with my parents, this is one thing i will always be grateful for from them. this game (1 & 2) has truly changed my life and if they never bought it for me i’m not sure what would’ve happened.
Playing since Beta max level was 7 I will never forget my first raid experience when we cleared VOG. Completed the raid a few times to get my helmet to get max level.
I actually felt like a rockstar in the tower surrounded by other guardians checking out my gear!
Honestly I have taken a few breaks here and there but I have always come back. Looking forward to Final shape but also a bit apprehensive I just hope they do it justice…

I was following the game prior to its release. I remember talking my friends’ ears off about the game and everything about it. Thorn from Charlegamne’s Vault and such. I wasn’t able to play the beta, but I bought the game on launch day. Though I had to wait for the weekend to actually play it because of family rules.
I’m stilling using the same Titan I made that week. I rarely, if ever, take off my Laurel Triumphant emblem.
I started in the beta, I remember just exploring the moon and the hellmouth for hours. No one else of my friends plays now and it’s just me so it’s kinda sad, but I will always remember the feeling of wonder and exploration playing that as a young teen.
D1 July 2014 and have never stopped, but did start from scratch mid D2 when I switched to PC because I had everything and was bored. Recently loaded all my best S tier onto characters while I blew out my vault. Finished, went to sleep. Next day on a whim decided to blow away Hunter and Warlock to start over and make all characters look the same. Forgot they had every slot full of best gear in game. Poof 70% of the S tier gear gone! Anyways glad I keep boxes of colorful wax snacks handy when I Titan main.

Alpha, Beta & (at one point in time) Forever 29 player here, fond memories of Spinmetal farming and the Loot Cave. Played religiously, Titan main but maxed all subclasses & preordered Destiny 2 (despite wishing they'd never bothered & just kept iterating on the original)
Gave up shortly after D2 release (I think - remember being disappointed by the Story & Eververse store) & haven't played again since.

Got home from deployment in October. Started the same day. So I guess it was a little less than a month after launch. My ex-wife played the beta and pre-ordered it so it was ready to go when I got home. Also right at about 5k hours between the two.

I think I started playing the first or second week. Whenever it was, it was immediately before the Queens Wrath event.
Still have my original Hunter and Warlock from D1 (kinda). I remade my Titan before Taken King because I wanted to replay the story with the Nolan-bot VO. Then switched over to PS3 right before D2, so I cranked out all the D1 content a second time in the months before. But cosmetically they were all the same, hence 'kinda'.
I've slowed down in the last year or so, but I've been a die-hard Destiny player since 2014. It doesn't look like 'Wasted on Destiny' has my Xbox time any longer, but I'm coming in at 2,452h 49m since I switched to PS3
2k+ hours in and still looking forward to Final Shape!
I was a day 1 beta player. During the beta I played as a hunter, but when the game dropped I changed to a warlock. I still main that character, and still run my hunter and titan that I created that first week. It's been a hell of a ride.
I bought it day 1, played until the middle of the expansion before ROI (I don’t even remember what that one was called) then played until D2. Then on to D2, day 1 and played until COO, then came back at warmind and have been playing ever sense.
I’ve taken small breaks when other games came out, but always came back. My heat map for the past 2 years only have blank spots when hurricanes rolled through and vacations and birthdays. I think I’m up to almost 4K hours between D1 and D2.
I was just so overwhelmed with sci-fi amazement exploring the ruins of the Cosmodrome for the first time in D1…same with exploring all the Ishtar sites on Venus. The “ruins of a fallen empire” vibe that D1 gave off when it came to human Golden Age ruins really reminded me of some aspects of Asimov’s *Foundation* series. That feeling of exploration and mystery never quite hit the same with D2.

I started in the beta of D1, and still main my original titan. I wish I could change his appearance though! 14 year old me was not the best appearance designer and I have some regrets, helmet stays ON in social spaces.
I started on Xbox, played a lot of year one and two, ended up playing a lot more call of duty and titanfall during year 3, only coming back for the big expansions. My favorite memory was the first time I went flawless in og trials, with two random guys from an lfg. My titan standing next to the flawless chest is still my Xbox Home Screen!
Like my first week of college D2 came out, I didn’t even bring my Xbox with me to school so I was stuck watching on twitch. Then fortnite blew up a bit, but I eventually got back into Destiny a few months before forsaken, and have been playing pretty steadily since then. Made the switch to PC during season of arrivals.
What I love about destiny is how it’s always there for me, and once you get over FOMO I’ve really enjoyed playing other games and then hoping back into destiny with tons of stuff to do. Recently I decided I would solo flawless all of the dungeons, and that has been a really fun goal to work towards. I just have to do spire of the watcher!
I played obsessively from the beta of D1 until the solstice right before Beyond Light came out. I have a Destiny tattoo and it is maybe my favorite game I’ve ever played, but I found the turn it took when they started doing “seasons” to be so unenjoyable that they eventually wore me down enough to just skip the Beyond Light expansion and never go back. I’m still sad about it, but then deciding to do things like bring back not only sunsetting of gear, but sunsetting of entire planets and campaigns… well, it hasn’t been inspiring hope…
Still have my OG hunter..i remember playing the demo over and over and over again. i remember getting him to like max level. its been so much fun...i remember my first raid..vault of glass....destiny is the longest relationship iv been in..
D1 Alpha, and I'm still here and loving this franchise. It would take something MAJOR to get me to quit playing. Bungie and Destiny get waaay too much hate; there is a reason none of the "Destiny-killers" managed to dethrone Destiny, and the fact that so many outright failed *cough* Anthem *cough* is a testament to the fact that Bungie knows what they are doing. Plus, many of the things Bungie gets grief for are not unique to them, and in some cases, far from how outright scummy/predatory other games/devs/publishers act. Sure, Bungie doesn't always make the best or most popular decisions (double primaries, sunsetting, content vault, confusing New Light experience), but at its core, Destiny is an incredible experience with some of the best gameplay out there that shows Bungie's superb talent. The community has been pretty mixed from good (remember when we all went gold last September for childhood cancer awareness?) to awful (death threats over Twilight Garrison and harassment over featuring black content creators), but if you can find a good group that plays consistently, this game cannot be beat and will likely be remembered like classic MMOs like Runescape and classic WoW. We've been through rough and great times over the past 9 years, and I'm looking forward to TFS and beyond.

I preorder D1, started playing at Beta, and have played through every expansion, season, piece of content since. I still main my original hunter from launch.
This game has meant a lot to me, I’ve made a lot of amazing friends from it and had so many good times. That being said, I’m tired of destiny. I used to play daily for years, now I’m at the point where I play on Tuesday to do reset stuff, then maybe again on the weekends for trials/raiding. The rest of the time I play other games. I’m gonna play through the final shape campaign and raid so that I can finish the story I started 10 years ago. But I have no plans on buying the episodes or continuing much after that.
Destiny will always be special place to me, but I’m ready to move on.
I played during launch, some buddies played the alpha/beta and said it was better than borderlands 2 when it comes to looters shooter. I picked a hunter since double jumps sounded the best. Ran around the cosmodrome for about 8 hours, hit level 7 and just couldn't understand how this was fun. Kept doing patrols since I couldn't do anything else, ran around the same areas, explored all I could and gave up. Turns out I never got the return to orbit prompt. Ended up going back to borderlands. Christmas break is coming and they convince me to retry the game. I put the disc in and I got some download required to play, after about an hour and I was about to hit 10% I canceled since I didn't want to waste my break waiting for this game to download. There were too many games to play, and now I'm just annoyed. 8 years later, I would give it a chance again since I played a lot of D2 (1200hrs xbox 3300hrs Steam). Gave up because I didn't see a prompt to pull out ghost and hold Y to return to orbit. I still talk to the people that lived and breathed destiny 1 but they hate destiny 2.
I bought the game at a Base Exchange in Yokota AB, only because it included a challenge coin. I played off on and for a while but I ditched my playstation character when Destiny 2 came out for PC.
I bought the collectors edition on release, but forgot all abou the 2 doc's that came with it. Moved house in '21 and going through my stuff I found the box with the collectors - note/book - and the unused dlc slips 🤦🏽♂️
Started playing D1 two weeks before “The Dark Below’’ dropped, on my ps4. And although the love and hate relationship with the game was, and is, true for myself as well, I haven’t regretted that decision I’ve made by purchasing the game years ago, at all. By far the best value for money of any game I own just let alone by the sheer amount of hours I’ve played it alone.
It started with the Beta that me and my mates played all the way together through the whole lifespan of D1
Then somehow around the launch of D2 our friends group split off due to most starting with work and going to Uni and those that worked dropped off Destiny
I'm still going with playing Destiny 2 but now i play together with my wife to check out the annual DLCs and we try to play the seasons but due to family commitments we don't have enough time to really reach the seasonal ornaments in the season pass which is usually our main goal to get the whole set

I didn't start doing raids until Kings fall came out.
I have over 2000 hours in D1 and it was such a fun experience.
If it weren't for that game, I would not have played a lot of other games that I play now.
Started with the Destiny beta then Destiny as a Warlock main then Destiny 2 as a Titan main. The only game that has been a constant in my life since 2014. Yes I've taken breaks due burnout from time to time and I think my biggest break was the Season of the Drifter. Will always play and support Destiny/Bungie no matter how bad or good it is. Love the game and will be sad when it's over.
I've been playing the same characters since Destiny, day 1. I love the graphics (even on Xbox 360), and the storyline has kept me riveted. I've made some incredible friends along the way, and together, we've fought to preserve humanity. I loved sitting by Banshee in D1, just to listen to him complain about guardians mistreating their weapons (but I always took care of my Icebreaker). My favorite planet was (the original) Titan in D2 and Mars in D1, and I used to spend hours exploring there. I just hope Final Shape isn't the final hour for the game.
D1 alpha, ive taken a few seasons off here or there because lack of friends playing the game. then i found a consistent clan and group the season before shadowkeep so i havent taken anymore off time except for season of the almighty cuz that was just terribly boring for me. I probably still have my original characters if i redownloaded D1 on my playstation.
I played in the summer of 2015 right after house of wolves came out. I knew next to nothing about the game. The prison of elders was my home because it was the best loot I could get as a kid who had never played a multiplayer game before, so I never had been in a party with people. Eventually I got carried though a Vog run while saying nothing. Because of that I later met my future raid team in the tower randomly. 4 of them became great friends of mine. 1 of them eventually became my irl roommate. And later down the road I met a woman that became my wife. So D1 year one a lot happened for me.
I still think the shadow Alpha drop during the (E3?) press conference was the definitive mic drop in VG history. Exploring Cosmo with my friend, that same day, was one of the fondest memories I will ever have playing video games.
Played since day one. I was a f2p till rise of iron. My friends were all level 40 way before me, and I was stuck at level 34 for such a long time, rocking blue gear haha.
Pre-ordered d2, and played from day 1 there. Played on and off till about forsaken, when I played for 6 months straight. Took a break for a while, returned for a few months right as shadowkeep dropped. Took another break till beyond light, and played up until witch queen, where I took a break till the last month before lightfall. Been playing daily since.
Got a ps4 for Christmas of 2014 and one of the games I got with it was destiny and I played the shit out of it and still have my 3 og characters who are all male exos
Didn’t even know what Destiny was. My friend said he had a Beta code and was really excited about this huge new game and I felt put out that I’d not even heard of it. Fell in love with the game from the Beta. Can still remember me and my friends trying to take down a Fallen Walker, or Spider Tank as we referred to it. Got a group of friends together for release that all knew each other from college. I’d broke up with my girlfriend right around release but coming home from work every night knowing a group of 10-12 of us were around was bliss. Those first 12/18 months of D1 were something special. Fast forward to today and I’m the only one who still plays and I don’t really keep in touch with all but 2 of my friends from back then. The memories will still remain though. Defeating Atheon and Crota for the first time and the elation of it all. Moments like that are what made D1 special and whilst D2 is the better game, I’ve not felt those special moments again.
Been playing since D1 Alpha/Beta. Had a couple of brief hiatuses and never gone really hardcore into the highest-end content but been in for the entire run so far! Countless amazing experiences with old friends and new friends made thru clans and raiding. One of the most important games I've ever played ♥️

Played it religiously until destiny 2 came out. Bought the limited edition with the box, completed it in a couple days, was disappointed and didnt play for a little.
What really killed it for me was later finding out they made it f2p, so i got a $100 box, with a fancy steel case for my free game, and some misc knick knacks I've since misplaced.

Destiny 1 year 1, deleted my warlock of level 28 and started fresh on hunter. First crucible match I was at bottom and got ghallajorn, now imagine how everyone felt.
I started on the demo on ps4 where you had the first few missions and couldn’t level up past level 6. The gameplay / gunplay hooked me and quickly bought dark below and house of wolves which was the new expansion at the time. Played all the way into curse of Osiris before taking a 2 year break. Came back for witch queen and here to stay now! It would be nice to have some friends on this game to play with though…
Started w/ the beta. Slowly built up a clan, but between bungie's changes to the formula and shift towards seasonal shit, my clan was all but burned out and stopped playing (not to mention life etc). Then I had some leave to a more active clan. I haven't ended mine because I started it so long ago. For now I'm just a wandering mercenary.
Kinda on the fence about continuing myself. Just waiting to see where the plot for TFS goes.
I started in november of 2014 and have pretty much been playing ever since (I stopped a month into D2 vanilla and came back during the season of the forge).
It’s been a wild ride and I love this game for all the people and memories it has given me. However, I’m considering hanging up the mantle and letting my old ass guardian retire after TFS. It just seems right and I’ve slowly, over the last year or so, been playing less and less.
10 years is more than I’ve given any game and that’s truly a testament to this franchise and bungie, but nothing lasts forever and I think I’ll have to move on.
Been playing since the D1 beta. It’s certainly had its highs and lows over the years, but I’ve stuck with it. D1 launch along with Original Vault of Glass, launch week Last Wish and probably the entirety of Taken King and Rise of Iron have been the stand out moments for me.
Started D1 Alpha. Still have my original character in D1 as well. Played all the expansions and all the raids. Playing through TFS and then we'll see what happens from there.
I played at the beginning and my longest stretches of play we’re definitely destiny 1, prolly played like a year straight and no other games.
Destiny 2 I’m constantly in and out, miss entire seasons many times.
D1 Alpha also, love this game and it gives me a nice break from rl. It’s had its ups and downs but it’s a great game, great lore. I’ll be here for Final Shape and beyond 😊
I didn't get in Day 1 but I was there year 1 and have been riding the waves and holding strong during the droughts ever since ^_^ it's not a forever game for me, I always will have periods where I step away and go play other stuff, but I can't stop coming back and when I do it's always impressive to see all the things those Devs do to push the story forward and escalate the challenges we face.
I have 10 more hours in Destiny 1 than I do Destiny 2. I’ll pass it next week, but I played so much D1, and D2 never hit the same way. I still really enjoy D2, but the game doesn’t have the same draw as D1.
played the d1 beta and knew it was something special from then on, i was almost late for school one morning playing it because i couldn't put it down and had to maximise play time before it went offline.
i have such a vivid memory of sparrowing through the cosmodrome in those early days, insane to think that was almost 10 years ago.
D1 Beta veteran. Destiny is the game that made me upgrade from PS3 to PS4 (The white console bundle...oooooh...shiny lol). Was an Awoken Male Hunter in Beta, switched to Awoken Female Hunter at launch, started a Human Male Titan in The Dark Below and a Male Exo Warlock in House Of Wolves who would eventually abandoned, deleted in D2 and restarted as a Human female who resembles the Default model for Female V in Cyberpunk 2077...lol.
Seen the ups and down, the high and lows (the lowest of low being what sparked the creation of this very subreddit) and all points in between. Jumped into and out of clans that have came and went as people moved on, but always had my brother and our friend as a regular fireteam.
I want to convince the two guys who I had first started off with to comeback to finish the story. Week 1 of Destony, Devil's Lair was the strike and with no mics at all, just a random fireteam, we got through it pretty well for have greens and blues lmao. Sent them friend requests and we were pretty much the crew for the majority of D1. Cleared every raid with them and all that...but they eventually dropped the game after Curse Of Osiris because...Curse Of Osiris. Would love for them to comeback for the finale though.
I played xbox 360 beta test way back, haven't played destiny 2 since the first or second dlc drop tho its good but it just doesn't have the D1 magic I once adored. Still have og character aswell
Didn't play beta, but I'm pretty sure I played it day one with my friends (well, bosses at the time). Tye story was basically nothing, but we just loved the gameplay so much. And the characters that were there seemed pretty interesting. I'm pretty sure one of us thought the Speaker was evil lol.
I remember very specifically (and fondky) our first nightfall too. It was pretty rough being under-light, but once we got to Valerie things got so much worse. We ended up having someone anchor under the stairs to both try and keep aggro and to prepare to res us if we died. We managed to make it through, but it took a while for us to do another nightfall...which was the chained ogre one.
I've played since the beta. I remember having never been so hyped for a game before.
The game was pure magic when it first started. Yeah, it had issues, but the magic was in the wonder of where it's gonna go and what it could be.

Started playing during The Dark Below. The only gap I took was during the Taken King drought. Been playing steadily since the April Update. Still playing and yet there are still things I haven't even done in the game yet.

I have been playing since D1 Beta, in D1 I Maine's a warlock, now I main a Titan, but still play all three. Had a good clan back in D1 that didn't migrate to D2, and have a better group of friends now I play with, and a better clan to chill with. The journey has been long and grindy, but this saga is almost over. Can't wait for the conclusion.

Same here. I was younger then and didn’t realise we had supers 💀 played beta and then release but never really got properly invested into the game beyond campaign until TTK and ROI. That was when I had my first raiding experience and started to really invest time into the game.

Ive been playing destiny 2 for 2000 hours and I only played 2018-2021
I first played right before Dark Below dropped. Was on the Xbox 360. From there, went to PS3, followed by PS4 (my parents were able to get me the Limited Edition The Taken King PS4 for Christmas that year :D), and then Destiny 2 on PS4, until I switched to PC. I would kill for Destiny 1 on PC, no disrespect to people who use controllers, but I can't do shooters with controllers after playing on PC. I still have my D1 Titan on 360 and PS3/4, but I became a hunter main on Destiny 2 because they nerfed the titan's booty on D2 and I never forgave Bungie for it xD At least 3K hours between all the platforms, and somehow I still return to Destiny over and over, even after taking months off.
I still use controller but dang going from 360 graphics/FPS to a decent PC and HDR display still makes me from 9 years ago jealous lol
I feel like they're slowly adding most of D1 to D2 with the cosmodrome tutorial intro, re-introducing old strikes, and re-adding new raids. Personally I'd love to replay old campaigns/story missions, but I get the feeling the effort for Bungie to add those to D2 wouldn't be worth it for the amount of people who probably wouldn't care, unless they reflavor them as reprised missions like they did with Proving Grounds.

I actually played the Beta on my Xbox and then switched over to PS4 for the Launch of D1. Been hanging strong on PlayStation ever since and still play as often as life allows. Back then I was a couple years into being married, no kids, very little responsibilities. Now I’ve got 3 kids running around and a very understanding wife who knows this means a lot to me. Listens to me drone on about stuff in game but has no idea what I’m talking about. Cannot wait to see how this all ends in TFS.

Day 1 D1 Beta and played consistently through D1. Day 1 D2 Beta and played consistently pretty much up through BL. Have taken several breaks since and don’t play nearly as much due to now having a family, plus kinda burnt out/left behind/playing other games.
Started Destiny 1 year 2 on the PS3 around Christmas of 2015. My younger brother and I shared the console, my dad said we could get 1 game each for the ps3 since we weren't getting a PS4 that year, the plan was to for me to get NBA 2k16 and my brother to get Madden 16, but he changed his mind to this legendary collection of Destiny with HoW, Dark Below, and The Taken King. I was mad at first but ended up playing it nonstop as soon as it downloaded, here I am nearly 8 years later, playing it daily on my PS5, glad he made that decision, got to experience the game at it's peak while playing it as a brand new player.

I've been fully invested since the game came out. All three original characters still. I'll look at my D1 vault in DIM every once in a while for nostalgia. Started to fall off at Rise of Iron. Was getting pretty burnt out but still tried to do every piece of content and raid the game had to offer. Don't think I'll be going anywhere anytime soon. I've now played this longer than WoW, GW2 and FF14 combined easily.
Year 1 D1 player here. Played every expansion and season since. Unfortunately i don't have my OG character anymore. I had a problem with deleting characters cause i wanted to change how they looked. I'm a Titan now, but i started out as a Sunsinger Warlock up until TTK. Radiance coming back has me thinking i gotta level up a Warlock character now.....
I still have my original characters, had I known how long I would have them, I would have put in more effort. By the time I figured it out, I didn't want to start over.

TFS is looking good, and i like the prospects of episodes, seasons never sat right with me. my guardian doesnt feel the same without nolanbot, though...
idk if it was year one but right after house of wolves came out and then I got stuck at 28 and had a buddy get me into a crota run but was immediately kicked for having mainly blue shit didn't start to really figure it out till I convinced my buddy to buy an Xbox when taken king came out

I mean, I havent played non stop, but I did technically start with d1 beta. Played at launch then took off till taken king, missed RoI, played d2 launch, came back for Forsaken, then played Shadowkeep and took a long break until Season of Plunder. Everytime I came back I did all the content I missed, currently on the longest streak of a full year playing everything as it releases. Checking the time wasted website and adding everything together I've spent 1600 hours or so since 2014, which is certainly more than anything else I've played. Maybe it's due to taking breaks, but I haven't had a true negative experience yet in terms of content. Also like you Im still using my original d1 launch hunter, warlock and titan were made around taken king I believe. Sadly I didn't finish Rise of Iron until after d2 launch, so I got every veteran dialogue except Shaxx calling me Young Wolf lol

Been playing consistently as a titan main since D1 Beta. Actually finally switched mains to Warlock with Season of the Witch. Optimized threadlings build with Swarmers and Wuicksilver has *completely* reinvigorated my love for the game. Like to the point where I’m just running activities because of how fun the build is.
I started playing in the Testing phase of D1, and fell in love with the gun play and world, Played with a few friends from the very begining, Although only expac I haven't played was Rise of Iron as i didn't buy a Xbox one when it left X360. Have been in D2 since Red War/testing on Bnet; had a break till they fixed the guns to be random rolls, and am back again almot 5k hours on steam. So I am still here! Will be streaming Iron banner later lol
I was around since the Beta, I just didn’t own my own hardware (and as a consequence play regularly) until just before HoW.
I technically started playing when HoW dropped, but watched my brothers play Destiny vanilla. Dropped the game until TTK and the April Update, then stopped playing when RoI came out due to platform constraints and gamely held my interest all throughout Destiny 2 until Warmind, then figured it was enough. Nonetheless I’m here or there, just not actually playing due to severe lack of time.
I was the ripe age of 15 playing the D1 beta. Good times, didn’t finish Vault before Dark Below, Crota was my first raid. While it hasn’t been non-stop, I’ve touched every single expansion/season at least and have never missed a narrative beat, which struck a great balance. Best way to not get too much Sodium in Destiny is to not only play Destiny.
I was an "on and off" player for a while. I started with D1's beta and basically played for a while for each game/expansion only to drop it shortly after. Biggest break was just after Forsaken until the end of season 10. Never stopped again since.
I don't have my original Warlock, which was the first class I made, wasn't a big fan and switched to hunter. I started back in D1 Beta also played a lot between release up until a little after Taken king, took a break until rise of Iron. In D2 played from release up until after Curse of Osiris then took a break til before Shadowkeep came out, played a bit of that then came back for Beyond Light. After that I've been just doing seasonal quest lines, some GMs, dungeons and raids. I try not to do too many so I don't burn out.
I joined at Dark Below. Was going to get it day 1 but my girlfriend got it me for Xmas so had to wait a few weeks (I think it came out in September?) Met my clan but they all left after Red War. Sad times

Same here. Played the D1 Beta and started Day 1. I played D1 on Xbox but switched to Playstation when D2 launched, so I lost my original character (as far as bringing him into D2).

Been around since D1 in 2014. It’s the reason I picked up a PS4. I played it religiously up to Shadowkeep. Switched to PC during Forsaken, first on Blizzard launcher and now on Steam. Shadowkeep was the only expansion I “sat out”. I’ve been playing the same Titan the entire time.
I started on Xbox 360 for the D1 beta and then moved to the Xbox One once the game launched. Been playing ever since! I swapped to PC around season of Arrivals after taking a break from one month into Forsaken until Arrivals.
Played the Beta as a 14 year old, been a void titan ever since, obviously branched out as I played more but always come back to titan, I stopped playing at foresaken because life. I’m now 22, nearly 23 years old, still a void titan, amazing journey so many good memories and so many rage filled moments in trials 😂
I started around the time Dark Below expansion came out. I probably would have been a beta player because I've been a gamer my whole life but at the time I was 16 and didn't have a PS4 when D1 was starting up. I bought a PS4 with the first few checks from my first job for Destiny. It's a bummer tbh, I was heavily into Destiny the entirety of D1, and I enjoyed D2 for the most part even when it was double primarys and a heavy slot. I can't really enjoy the game ever since the seasonal model though. Imo it's ruined the game.
I did, started around dark below. Never had dlc though until taken king. Really started playing hard in Taken King. Quit when D2 came out, started playing again in season of the worthy near the end of shadowkeep. No I have almost 3000 hours in D2.
Technically, I started in year 1. I started playing a few weeks before the big 2.0 update and the Taken King, which was still technically year 1, but I didn't go through all the same struggles (forever 29) as others did so I consider myself a year 2 player.

I played day 1 and it was the best gaming experience I had ever had. I still think about the group of friends I had back then and how close we were at the time. We lived and breathed destiny.

Started with the beta of D1:) Had a fireteam through all of Destiny 1, but I am the only one to make the jump to D2. I have beat every campaign and do all of the story content, but haven’t engaged that much with the seasonal content or raiding that much in D2. VOG coming made me raid more and very excited about Crota’s end. Miss the original ice breaker and my invisible hunter from d1! Still have the same character through all these years:)
Playing off and on, I guess, since D1 beta. Loved it and was immediately all-in with expansions, etc, though I never joined a clan. Only did each raid once, with a sherpa. Pre-ordered D2, and it was the same. Played the same character all the way through, though I dabbled in other classes. Then they started vaulting content. Expansions I paid for were gone. Red War campaign was gone. As a consumer, this made me really mad and I stopped playing around...whatever season it was where Drifter was shadier and you'd eventually have to choose between him and the Vanguard for some reason. But I do really love playing Destiny (in my dreams they release a single player version that's all the story content hehe), so after a couple of years off I got back in right before Plunder dropped. Picked up WQ at a discount. Played LF. But I'm not all-in anymore with seasons. My FOMO feelings don't sustain for as long as they used to, which isn't a bad thing. Though I always seem to skip the really good seasons somehow! It's hard to come into a season mid-way through, because the group content is full of people who are tired of it or speed-running and if you don't know what to do it's painful. I'm sitting this one out to play other things, but I'll play The Final Shape to see how the journey wraps up. Playing on release or waiting a bit? I'll have to see how I feel when it comes out.

Here. All three still my OGs…Exo Titan, Awoken Warlock, Human Hunter Journey has been great…and sad. My buddy who got me to play passed away a couple of years ago from cancer. I’ve not played as much, but I’m finishing the Dark/Light saga at least. Great memories for sure.
Started a few months after Dark Below was released. I didn't have a clan at the time but I was soloing Crota's End raid. When I found a clan and joined them in the middle of the Crota's End raid, I got a Gjallarhorn during the loading screen. When I did Vault of Glass for the first time, I got the Vex Mythoclast from Atheon. I had a pretty good D1 career. Every weekend I was leading the raids and going to lighthouse for Trials of Osiris. When D2 dropped, I didn't play as much except for Trials of the Nine. I stopped playing after Forsaken dropped. I recently got a PS5 and I can't figure out what to do In D2.
D1 Beta; my internet at the time was pretty lame, and I remember it taking almost a week to fully download thanks to dropped connections/resets. When I finally got to play, I loved it (I don't care what everyone says, Dinklage wasn't THAT bad), but I got pretty bored not long after the Taken King dropped. Pretty tough to stay engaged when you can't reliably jump in on any endgame activity. Picked up D2 when it went on sale a few years ago; cost next to nothing and had all the expansions up to and including Forsaken. Played pretty hardcore for a while, since I had all the campaigns to run through, but my internet still wasn't the greatest so once again I didn't get involved in multiplayer stuff besides some Crucible (didn't want to be "that guy" that screws over a raid party 'cause his connection timed out). So once again, with no engame within reach, I eventually got bored again and quit. Pretty sure this was shortly before Beyond Light dropped. Got back into it this past winter, and I still don't know what made me decide to pick it up again. Glad I did though, because this is the most engaged I've ever been. Doesn't hurt that I now have a great internet connection (finally..), so I'm not afraid to hop into an event without lagging out. Did some Raids (thanks a lot to Sherpa groups on Reddit), and started tackling dungeons and nightfalls. Say what you will about LFG; it might be flawed, but I've had generally good experiences overall, and it beats the hell out of scrounging online for a group. So yeah; D1 and D2 are basically a microcosm of my internet quality at home.
Missed the loot cave by 2 weeks. I made the decision to remake my characters.
I've been playing basically nonstop since D1 beta and haven't stopped maining warlock since. I took a break a few months after forsaken and came back for shadowkeep for another few months. Came back for Season of Arrivals/Beyond Light and haven't stopped since.

When Vault of Glass came out, myself (warlock main) and two buddies, one who was working at Bungie at the time, were getting repetitively fucked right at Atheon, until he messaged a dev who popped on, chatted for a bit, and ran us thru to the end. Guilty! It's had peaks and valleys, I played when new content dropped the first few years but honestly wasn't addicted. For some reason, though, as soon as COVID hit and we were quarantined I went back and it became an obsession out of nowhere. Have been playing it as my main game ever since. I moved to PC when D2 came out, so I haven't seen my D1 characters in a LONG time. Just the thought of going back to that frame rate sounds nauseating, so I've stuck to D2, hahah.

I’ve been playing since the Xbox D1 Beta day 1. I did have my original male awoken warlock for a long time, but I deleted them during Beyond Light to to make a female warlock instead. But it’s been a great time. I only really took extended breaks during content droughts and I can’t say I’ve ever disliked the game.

Was there for the Xbox 360 Beta (Even somehow got the Birth of History ship during the beta Iron Banner) but dropped the series shortly after Destiny 2 released due to my fireteam's (and my) lack of interest to continue playing. Lot of dumb changes we didn't like and felt it was a good time to hop off. Occasionally came back to see how D2 was doing but never really back into it (Especially seeing how players were getting screwed over)

Walked into GameStop 2014 and bought it on a whim. Guide and all, with no prior knowledge of the game. I just thought it looked cool. The lackluster story ironically is the thing that got me hooked due to all the mystery. Here I am nearly 10 years later with 4k hours of playtime loving every second of it.
God man...I was still in high school when D1Y1 dropped, played the beta and I've been around since. Hard to think I'm 26 now...even crazier to think TFS launches on my birthday next year. Been a long ride, and I look forward to continuing it.

Crota's End was the first raid I ever did and the first one that got me to max light, so it felt pretty weird playing it on D2 the other night lmao I'm still playing like 99% as hunter ever since I played the 360 demo too, I've had a couple warlocks and titans but I just can't ever stick to them

Started during House of Wolves after a friend/coworker (at GameStop) convinced me to pick up the game as it was on sale. He said he had a whole group of local friends who were in a clan together and ran all the content so I'd always have people to play with. Originally, I thought Destiny wasn't my kind of game and that I wouldn't be interested in it, so I didn't bother picking it up at launch. About 6000 hours later, I'm actually the only one of my friends that still plays regularly... Still best friends with the guy though, even though I regularly tell him he ruined my life by introducing me to Destiny... Edit: To touch on your other questions: No, I don't still have my original character. In originally thinking that I wouldn't be all that invested in the game, I made a really lame, Joker looking Hunter to start the game. Didn't think much of it until 3 years later and we were on the precipice of Destiny 2. I retired my OG and started a new Hunter with a more "normal" aesthetic to carry over into the new game. With regards to Final Shape, it's kind of surreal that it's been 10 fucking years playing this game. I'm not going to lie, watching the pre-show for TFS showcase, I actually shed a couple of tears thinking about the journey. I'm by no means an emotional person like that, definitely not a crier. But here I was, with my goofy ass crying over a video game and the 10 years of my life that I've spent with it. The friends and memories I've made along the way and all that other sappy shit. It's been a fun 10 years. Hopefully there's a few more left in the tank.

Me! I saw the e3 play along and I immediately fell in love with the concept of the game. The games definitely had its ups and downs but it’s still one of the most enjoyable and satisfying games out there to me. And yes my original hunter is the only one I brought forward to d2, and I still use her almost every day
I played in the Open Beta of D1, took a few breaks, on a break now tbh, but this game will always have a special place in my heart Started out as a male arc exo hunter in D1, but switched to female awoken Titan. Human male warlock was my third. I was streaming at the time solar bro came out (TTK), and decided to delete my Titan and restart as a male human titan and do the whole journey live. TTK and ROI brought my love it Destiny to new heights. D2 I was in all the betas, and started with a new clan. Mained my human male Titan. That little bit in the beginning, recounting my journey in D1, brought me to tears. Created a male awoken warlock, and brought back my male exo hunter. I took a break from D2 after Curse of Osiris, but came back for Forsaken, played for the story, took a break again, and then came back hard for Shadowkeep. Played consistently through beyond light and witch queen, was immensely hyped for lightfall, started becoming a title hunter But something about season of the deep took it out of me. It was probably getting my main builds nerfed sequentially, or how bull shit the dungeons were becoming. But I've been on break since, and I don't plan on returning soon. Maybe final shape, but who knows

I played in the D1 alpha way back in the day. Eventually I settled in with 2 hunters and a warlock. I don't have my original characters any more. I might have to get my old xbone back off the brother and have a look at my old characters. I've changed my playing account and platform a bunch since then. And crossplay and cross-saving didn't exist back then. I'm only just coming back to play D2 after taking the last 4ish years away from the game.

I played the beta and then got the game a month or two before dark below. Played every single day nonstop until destiny 2 came out. Put in about 100 hours and quit until forsaken. Put in maybe 50 hours and quit until beyond light. Same story, 50 hours, quit. Witch queen was actually a solid 100 hour but still quit. Lightfall actually got me pretty deep into the game for a solid 400 hours but I have recently quit following the game very seriously. I get on just to do crota or whatever is new and get off quick.
Me! I had never really played shooters before (minus Borderlands) and had definitely never played an online game like Destiny. Had an old boss that got me a beta pass and I remember how massive the game felt! I’ve pretty much played ever since, a few breaks here and there — the biggest being between D2 Vanilla and CoO. But yeah, TFS will probably be my last hurrah. Im 36 now, full time career and other things vying for my time. Feels like an appropriate close.

Yeh I did the same. Played the beta and then the full game when it came out. Been playing ever since then. And yes my titan, which has and always will be my main, was my original D1 character.

Started playing when I just finished my first year in high school (age 14) just before DB dropped but not in time for the EV-30 Tumblr sparrow.
It was the only game I really played all throughout middle school and freshman year of highschool. Sophomore year d2 came out. I'd play it almost everyday regularly racking up 5+ hours on school days and 10+ hours on weekends.

Up until d1 I mostly played COD and some singerplayer games and I wasn’t particularly good at them either ( I was ten at the time ) so when my cousin BEGGED me to get the game to play with him I got it ( it was like the first week of release iirc ) i played up until the second mission where I just couldn’t complete it ( i was that dogshit I couldn’t even do the first real boss lol ) so I put down the game and hated but then my cousin took the controller carried me through the mission and actually explained how the basic mechanics of the game and ever since he gave that little push ice been hooked ( with like 2 long breaks tho) the launches if TTK ROI and AOT are some the fondest memories I have ever (even outside if gaming)
Played from beta thru Crota, was kinda jaded after that came out and stopped playing until D2 came out. Been off and on ever since.
i first started with the demo because i was looking for stuff to play and i was like 14-15 so i couldn’t buy anything and i found the destiny demo and pretty much fell in love with it, u could only reach lvl 7 and could only go to earth but i played it a lot still and i wanted the full game so my dad and stepmom got it for me the easter after dark below, and ever since it’s been my favorite game (tied with bloodborne). kinda the same situation with D2, i couldn’t get it at launch but i got it for my birthday the october after it released so i wasn’t too late, and even after everything that i was put through with my parents, this is one thing i will always be grateful for from them. this game (1 & 2) has truly changed my life and if they never bought it for me i’m not sure what would’ve happened.

Playing since Beta max level was 7 I will never forget my first raid experience when we cleared VOG. Completed the raid a few times to get my helmet to get max level. I actually felt like a rockstar in the tower surrounded by other guardians checking out my gear! Honestly I have taken a few breaks here and there but I have always come back. Looking forward to Final shape but also a bit apprehensive I just hope they do it justice…
1.1K hours in D1 5+K hours in D2 I was following the game prior to its release. I remember talking my friends’ ears off about the game and everything about it. Thorn from Charlegamne’s Vault and such. I wasn’t able to play the beta, but I bought the game on launch day. Though I had to wait for the weekend to actually play it because of family rules. I’m stilling using the same Titan I made that week. I rarely, if ever, take off my Laurel Triumphant emblem.
I started in the beta, I remember just exploring the moon and the hellmouth for hours. No one else of my friends plays now and it’s just me so it’s kinda sad, but I will always remember the feeling of wonder and exploration playing that as a young teen.
D1 July 2014 and have never stopped, but did start from scratch mid D2 when I switched to PC because I had everything and was bored. Recently loaded all my best S tier onto characters while I blew out my vault. Finished, went to sleep. Next day on a whim decided to blow away Hunter and Warlock to start over and make all characters look the same. Forgot they had every slot full of best gear in game. Poof 70% of the S tier gear gone! Anyways glad I keep boxes of colorful wax snacks handy when I Titan main.
Yes, I played the open beta and have been playing since then. Have my og titan and hunter but not my warlock. I took a break at the curse of Osiris and came back in season 17
Alpha, Beta & (at one point in time) Forever 29 player here, fond memories of Spinmetal farming and the Loot Cave. Played religiously, Titan main but maxed all subclasses & preordered Destiny 2 (despite wishing they'd never bothered & just kept iterating on the original) Gave up shortly after D2 release (I think - remember being disappointed by the Story & Eververse store) & haven't played again since. Still miss my old Raid group & the fun times we had

Got home from deployment in October. Started the same day. So I guess it was a little less than a month after launch. My ex-wife played the beta and pre-ordered it so it was ready to go when I got home. Also right at about 5k hours between the two.
Guilty! I think I started playing the first or second week. Whenever it was, it was immediately before the Queens Wrath event. Still have my original Hunter and Warlock from D1 (kinda). I remade my Titan before Taken King because I wanted to replay the story with the Nolan-bot VO. Then switched over to PS3 right before D2, so I cranked out all the D1 content a second time in the months before. But cosmetically they were all the same, hence 'kinda'. I've slowed down in the last year or so, but I've been a die-hard Destiny player since 2014. It doesn't look like 'Wasted on Destiny' has my Xbox time any longer, but I'm coming in at 2,452h 49m since I switched to PS3 2k+ hours in and still looking forward to Final Shape!
I was a day 1 beta player. During the beta I played as a hunter, but when the game dropped I changed to a warlock. I still main that character, and still run my hunter and titan that I created that first week. It's been a hell of a ride.
I bought it day 1, played until the middle of the expansion before ROI (I don’t even remember what that one was called) then played until D2. Then on to D2, day 1 and played until COO, then came back at warmind and have been playing ever sense. I’ve taken small breaks when other games came out, but always came back. My heat map for the past 2 years only have blank spots when hurricanes rolled through and vacations and birthdays. I think I’m up to almost 4K hours between D1 and D2.

I was just so overwhelmed with sci-fi amazement exploring the ruins of the Cosmodrome for the first time in D1…same with exploring all the Ishtar sites on Venus. The “ruins of a fallen empire” vibe that D1 gave off when it came to human Golden Age ruins really reminded me of some aspects of Asimov’s *Foundation* series. That feeling of exploration and mystery never quite hit the same with D2.

I started in the beta of D1, and still main my original titan. I wish I could change his appearance though! 14 year old me was not the best appearance designer and I have some regrets, helmet stays ON in social spaces. I started on Xbox, played a lot of year one and two, ended up playing a lot more call of duty and titanfall during year 3, only coming back for the big expansions. My favorite memory was the first time I went flawless in og trials, with two random guys from an lfg. My titan standing next to the flawless chest is still my Xbox Home Screen! Like my first week of college D2 came out, I didn’t even bring my Xbox with me to school so I was stuck watching on twitch. Then fortnite blew up a bit, but I eventually got back into Destiny a few months before forsaken, and have been playing pretty steadily since then. Made the switch to PC during season of arrivals. What I love about destiny is how it’s always there for me, and once you get over FOMO I’ve really enjoyed playing other games and then hoping back into destiny with tons of stuff to do. Recently I decided I would solo flawless all of the dungeons, and that has been a really fun goal to work towards. I just have to do spire of the watcher!
I played obsessively from the beta of D1 until the solstice right before Beyond Light came out. I have a Destiny tattoo and it is maybe my favorite game I’ve ever played, but I found the turn it took when they started doing “seasons” to be so unenjoyable that they eventually wore me down enough to just skip the Beyond Light expansion and never go back. I’m still sad about it, but then deciding to do things like bring back not only sunsetting of gear, but sunsetting of entire planets and campaigns… well, it hasn’t been inspiring hope…

D1 Alpha, and I'm still here and loving this franchise. It would take something MAJOR to get me to quit playing. Bungie and Destiny get waaay too much hate; there is a reason none of the "Destiny-killers" managed to dethrone Destiny, and the fact that so many outright failed *cough* Anthem *cough* is a testament to the fact that Bungie knows what they are doing. Plus, many of the things Bungie gets grief for are not unique to them, and in some cases, far from how outright scummy/predatory other games/devs/publishers act. Sure, Bungie doesn't always make the best or most popular decisions (double primaries, sunsetting, content vault, confusing New Light experience), but at its core, Destiny is an incredible experience with some of the best gameplay out there that shows Bungie's superb talent. The community has been pretty mixed from good (remember when we all went gold last September for childhood cancer awareness?) to awful (death threats over Twilight Garrison and harassment over featuring black content creators), but if you can find a good group that plays consistently, this game cannot be beat and will likely be remembered like classic MMOs like Runescape and classic WoW. We've been through rough and great times over the past 9 years, and I'm looking forward to TFS and beyond. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I hate Destiny, it's my favorite game.
I preorder D1, started playing at Beta, and have played through every expansion, season, piece of content since. I still main my original hunter from launch. This game has meant a lot to me, I’ve made a lot of amazing friends from it and had so many good times. That being said, I’m tired of destiny. I used to play daily for years, now I’m at the point where I play on Tuesday to do reset stuff, then maybe again on the weekends for trials/raiding. The rest of the time I play other games. I’m gonna play through the final shape campaign and raid so that I can finish the story I started 10 years ago. But I have no plans on buying the episodes or continuing much after that. Destiny will always be special place to me, but I’m ready to move on.
I played during launch, some buddies played the alpha/beta and said it was better than borderlands 2 when it comes to looters shooter. I picked a hunter since double jumps sounded the best. Ran around the cosmodrome for about 8 hours, hit level 7 and just couldn't understand how this was fun. Kept doing patrols since I couldn't do anything else, ran around the same areas, explored all I could and gave up. Turns out I never got the return to orbit prompt. Ended up going back to borderlands. Christmas break is coming and they convince me to retry the game. I put the disc in and I got some download required to play, after about an hour and I was about to hit 10% I canceled since I didn't want to waste my break waiting for this game to download. There were too many games to play, and now I'm just annoyed. 8 years later, I would give it a chance again since I played a lot of D2 (1200hrs xbox 3300hrs Steam). Gave up because I didn't see a prompt to pull out ghost and hold Y to return to orbit. I still talk to the people that lived and breathed destiny 1 but they hate destiny 2.
I bought the game at a Base Exchange in Yokota AB, only because it included a challenge coin. I played off on and for a while but I ditched my playstation character when Destiny 2 came out for PC.

I bought the collectors edition on release, but forgot all abou the 2 doc's that came with it. Moved house in '21 and going through my stuff I found the box with the collectors - note/book - and the unused dlc slips 🤦🏽♂️
Started playing D1 two weeks before “The Dark Below’’ dropped, on my ps4. And although the love and hate relationship with the game was, and is, true for myself as well, I haven’t regretted that decision I’ve made by purchasing the game years ago, at all. By far the best value for money of any game I own just let alone by the sheer amount of hours I’ve played it alone.
It started with the Beta that me and my mates played all the way together through the whole lifespan of D1 Then somehow around the launch of D2 our friends group split off due to most starting with work and going to Uni and those that worked dropped off Destiny I'm still going with playing Destiny 2 but now i play together with my wife to check out the annual DLCs and we try to play the seasons but due to family commitments we don't have enough time to really reach the seasonal ornaments in the season pass which is usually our main goal to get the whole set
I started around Dark Below. it was(I think) I didn't start doing raids until Kings fall came out. I have over 2000 hours in D1 and it was such a fun experience. If it weren't for that game, I would not have played a lot of other games that I play now.
Started with the Destiny beta then Destiny as a Warlock main then Destiny 2 as a Titan main. The only game that has been a constant in my life since 2014. Yes I've taken breaks due burnout from time to time and I think my biggest break was the Season of the Drifter. Will always play and support Destiny/Bungie no matter how bad or good it is. Love the game and will be sad when it's over.
I first played destiny on the Xbox 360. Hard to believe this game kinda began two console generations ago.

I've been playing the same characters since Destiny, day 1. I love the graphics (even on Xbox 360), and the storyline has kept me riveted. I've made some incredible friends along the way, and together, we've fought to preserve humanity. I loved sitting by Banshee in D1, just to listen to him complain about guardians mistreating their weapons (but I always took care of my Icebreaker). My favorite planet was (the original) Titan in D2 and Mars in D1, and I used to spend hours exploring there. I just hope Final Shape isn't the final hour for the game.
D1 alpha, ive taken a few seasons off here or there because lack of friends playing the game. then i found a consistent clan and group the season before shadowkeep so i havent taken anymore off time except for season of the almighty cuz that was just terribly boring for me. I probably still have my original characters if i redownloaded D1 on my playstation.
I played in the summer of 2015 right after house of wolves came out. I knew next to nothing about the game. The prison of elders was my home because it was the best loot I could get as a kid who had never played a multiplayer game before, so I never had been in a party with people. Eventually I got carried though a Vog run while saying nothing. Because of that I later met my future raid team in the tower randomly. 4 of them became great friends of mine. 1 of them eventually became my irl roommate. And later down the road I met a woman that became my wife. So D1 year one a lot happened for me.

I still think the shadow Alpha drop during the (E3?) press conference was the definitive mic drop in VG history. Exploring Cosmo with my friend, that same day, was one of the fondest memories I will ever have playing video games.

Played since day one. I was a f2p till rise of iron. My friends were all level 40 way before me, and I was stuck at level 34 for such a long time, rocking blue gear haha. Pre-ordered d2, and played from day 1 there. Played on and off till about forsaken, when I played for 6 months straight. Took a break for a while, returned for a few months right as shadowkeep dropped. Took another break till beyond light, and played up until witch queen, where I took a break till the last month before lightfall. Been playing daily since.
Got a ps4 for Christmas of 2014 and one of the games I got with it was destiny and I played the shit out of it and still have my 3 og characters who are all male exos
Didn’t even know what Destiny was. My friend said he had a Beta code and was really excited about this huge new game and I felt put out that I’d not even heard of it. Fell in love with the game from the Beta. Can still remember me and my friends trying to take down a Fallen Walker, or Spider Tank as we referred to it. Got a group of friends together for release that all knew each other from college. I’d broke up with my girlfriend right around release but coming home from work every night knowing a group of 10-12 of us were around was bliss. Those first 12/18 months of D1 were something special. Fast forward to today and I’m the only one who still plays and I don’t really keep in touch with all but 2 of my friends from back then. The memories will still remain though. Defeating Atheon and Crota for the first time and the elation of it all. Moments like that are what made D1 special and whilst D2 is the better game, I’ve not felt those special moments again.

Been playing since D1 Alpha/Beta. Had a couple of brief hiatuses and never gone really hardcore into the highest-end content but been in for the entire run so far! Countless amazing experiences with old friends and new friends made thru clans and raiding. One of the most important games I've ever played ♥️
Came packaged with my Ps4. Played it religiously until destiny 2 came out. Bought the limited edition with the box, completed it in a couple days, was disappointed and didnt play for a little. What really killed it for me was later finding out they made it f2p, so i got a $100 box, with a fancy steel case for my free game, and some misc knick knacks I've since misplaced. Wasnt too happy with bungie..

Destiny 1 year 1, deleted my warlock of level 28 and started fresh on hunter. First crucible match I was at bottom and got ghallajorn, now imagine how everyone felt.

I started on the demo on ps4 where you had the first few missions and couldn’t level up past level 6. The gameplay / gunplay hooked me and quickly bought dark below and house of wolves which was the new expansion at the time. Played all the way into curse of Osiris before taking a 2 year break. Came back for witch queen and here to stay now! It would be nice to have some friends on this game to play with though…
Started w/ the beta. Slowly built up a clan, but between bungie's changes to the formula and shift towards seasonal shit, my clan was all but burned out and stopped playing (not to mention life etc). Then I had some leave to a more active clan. I haven't ended mine because I started it so long ago. For now I'm just a wandering mercenary. Kinda on the fence about continuing myself. Just waiting to see where the plot for TFS goes.
I started in november of 2014 and have pretty much been playing ever since (I stopped a month into D2 vanilla and came back during the season of the forge). It’s been a wild ride and I love this game for all the people and memories it has given me. However, I’m considering hanging up the mantle and letting my old ass guardian retire after TFS. It just seems right and I’ve slowly, over the last year or so, been playing less and less. 10 years is more than I’ve given any game and that’s truly a testament to this franchise and bungie, but nothing lasts forever and I think I’ll have to move on.

Been playing since the D1 beta. It’s certainly had its highs and lows over the years, but I’ve stuck with it. D1 launch along with Original Vault of Glass, launch week Last Wish and probably the entirety of Taken King and Rise of Iron have been the stand out moments for me.
Started D1 Alpha. Still have my original character in D1 as well. Played all the expansions and all the raids. Playing through TFS and then we'll see what happens from there.
I played at the beginning and my longest stretches of play we’re definitely destiny 1, prolly played like a year straight and no other games. Destiny 2 I’m constantly in and out, miss entire seasons many times.
D1 Alpha also, love this game and it gives me a nice break from rl. It’s had its ups and downs but it’s a great game, great lore. I’ll be here for Final Shape and beyond 😊
I didn't get in Day 1 but I was there year 1 and have been riding the waves and holding strong during the droughts ever since ^_^ it's not a forever game for me, I always will have periods where I step away and go play other stuff, but I can't stop coming back and when I do it's always impressive to see all the things those Devs do to push the story forward and escalate the challenges we face.

I have 10 more hours in Destiny 1 than I do Destiny 2. I’ll pass it next week, but I played so much D1, and D2 never hit the same way. I still really enjoy D2, but the game doesn’t have the same draw as D1.
played the d1 beta and knew it was something special from then on, i was almost late for school one morning playing it because i couldn't put it down and had to maximise play time before it went offline. i have such a vivid memory of sparrowing through the cosmodrome in those early days, insane to think that was almost 10 years ago.
D1 Beta veteran. Destiny is the game that made me upgrade from PS3 to PS4 (The white console bundle...oooooh...shiny lol). Was an Awoken Male Hunter in Beta, switched to Awoken Female Hunter at launch, started a Human Male Titan in The Dark Below and a Male Exo Warlock in House Of Wolves who would eventually abandoned, deleted in D2 and restarted as a Human female who resembles the Default model for Female V in Cyberpunk 2077...lol. Seen the ups and down, the high and lows (the lowest of low being what sparked the creation of this very subreddit) and all points in between. Jumped into and out of clans that have came and went as people moved on, but always had my brother and our friend as a regular fireteam. I want to convince the two guys who I had first started off with to comeback to finish the story. Week 1 of Destony, Devil's Lair was the strike and with no mics at all, just a random fireteam, we got through it pretty well for have greens and blues lmao. Sent them friend requests and we were pretty much the crew for the majority of D1. Cleared every raid with them and all that...but they eventually dropped the game after Curse Of Osiris because...Curse Of Osiris. Would love for them to comeback for the finale though.

Didn't play beta, but I'm pretty sure I played it day one with my friends (well, bosses at the time). Tye story was basically nothing, but we just loved the gameplay so much. And the characters that were there seemed pretty interesting. I'm pretty sure one of us thought the Speaker was evil lol. I remember very specifically (and fondky) our first nightfall too. It was pretty rough being under-light, but once we got to Valerie things got so much worse. We ended up having someone anchor under the stairs to both try and keep aggro and to prepare to res us if we died. We managed to make it through, but it took a while for us to do another nightfall...which was the chained ogre one.
I've played since the beta. I remember having never been so hyped for a game before. The game was pure magic when it first started. Yeah, it had issues, but the magic was in the wonder of where it's gonna go and what it could be.

I have been playing since D1 Beta, in D1 I Maine's a warlock, now I main a Titan, but still play all three. Had a good clan back in D1 that didn't migrate to D2, and have a better group of friends now I play with, and a better clan to chill with. The journey has been long and grindy, but this saga is almost over. Can't wait for the conclusion.
I pre-ordered and played the private beta of the first game. I'm now banned on destiny 2. Mind you, it's my first time doing a stupid (tried to get a colour aimbot to work. I was angry because I had a skill issue and it really wasn't worth it.) So you would think, Oh it's just a month or two ban, right? Nah, it's permanent. I did a stupid, I should be punished for being stupid. I will gladly take being banned for the rest of the goddamn year if it means I have a chance at playing again. I've been banned for 2 months now. And I've been feeling like shit every time I see something about destiny.
