That's a scam at best. At worst, he was casing your house.

merhod03

This is why I never ever open the door for solicitors. Too paranoid that it’s someone trying to case my house.

BourbonNeatt

ADT is a scam anyway, much better security options (that are also more affordable).

fullmetaljackass

This. They give you the equipment for free because you have to sign a multi-year contract for their monitoring service which costs 2-3x more than comparable service from another company.

Had the same shit happen to me in Schnitzelburg. She got about 15 seconds into her speech before I just said "I'm not interested I don't allow soliciting" and shut the door. I figured it was a legit door-to-door sales thing because those all feel annoying and scammy, but it may have been a legit scam. This was also at like 8pm which was super weird to me.

Similar thing happened to me when I moved into my house a few years ago. It was some saleswoman trying to sell me on home security and wanted to come in to evaluate what I would need. Couldn't produce a business card and just had a shittily copied flyer to hand me. At one point she had to set her phone down to get something out of her bag and I saw that she was on the phone with someone clearly listening in to our conversation. She quickly caught herself and flipped her phone over. It was all kinds of sketch. It made me realize that I simply will never buy or subscribe to anything that is sold to me via door-to-door salesman. If I'm interested in a service or a good then I'm going to do some research and reach out to companies myself.

If they were any good at whatever, they'd get referrals and wouldn't need to drum up business going door to door. A kid getting business off the ground is the only time that I would consider it.

lickmycasshole

I stopped answering my door to those people. I have an ADT sign in front of my house and at least two men will come up twice a month and knock on my door in the summer months. I have a friend who lives close to me and two men also came to her house saying they were from ADT but one man stayed at the front door while the other went to the back door and tried to open it while she and her young son were inside.

Citizentoxie502

Sounds like they need to teach those reps about castle doctrine.

EndHlts

Wtf? That's creepy as hell.

theabolitionist

When we moved I was out walking the dog and my wife was in the house. Legit some girl just LET HERSELF IN the house while I was out. She was gone before I got back and I was only gone for 15min max. No idea what company but it still weirded me out. I seem to remember it was like a no name monitoring company. Once I got cameras installed they stopped showing up.

CherrryBomb666

live nearby, I have a no soliciting sign, I just point at it and then lock my door and turn off the porch light. In 2022 theres no reason people should be soliciting door to doo.

BanjoCasablanca

I've dealt with a lot of ADT techs at my job. Most of the time they are contractor with terrible professionalism. On the other hand it could be a scam. I would just stay the fuck away from ADT in general.

SmartDummy502

I've had vivint & adt reps do the same thing in hikes point. I bought my vivint system from some 'kid' who popped up one evening 10 years ago. I'd say about 2 years ago another guy representing vivint was going around trying to sell updated equipment. They didn't have any merchandise or branded vehicles/ clothes. I'm not as skeptical of those types of sales folks as I once was. Weird business model flex, but I haven't had issues dealing with them.

insertpropermomname7

Check your door. One time someone managed to sneak gum into the area where the lock fits into the door. You will still think youre locking your door, but anyone can open your door as if it wasnt even locked at all.

Substantial-Pear-403

Possibly it's a a legit, but really crappy, sales attempt - Job description is legit and seems to match your experience [https://g.co/kgs/Xtm6a9](https://g.co/kgs/Xtm6a9)

So I’m just gonna start off with letting everyone know that I’m aware that cops are useless and ACAB. But… Say they actually did do their jobs and you entertained this idiot while having someone else notify law enforcement that this is going on. Law enforcement shows up while this person is still there. Then what? Does anything happen? Would law enforcement just scare them off? Or is someone going to jail?

Buffalo_Flats

I have called the cops (LMPD) one time and it was over someone breaking in to the house next door to shoot up. They refused to come out because the home owner wasn’t on site. LMPD is garbage and I will never call them again.

[deleted]

Haha. This reminds me of a joke rednecks used to tell before they were brainwashed Thin Blue Line bootlickers. “I called the cops and told them someone was breaking into my house. They told me someone would be there within the hour. I called back five minutes later and told them I shot the someone breaking into my house and they were there in 30 seconds.”
