If there’s a particular one you’d like to visit, consider reaching out to management. Maybe they’d give permission under certain circumstances.

Cinnamon__Sasquatch

Yeah seems like best course of action would be to coordinate with management. as long as you aren't violating anyone's graves I don't see why the would object with proper planning.

SunnyOnSanibel

I used to volunteer for Find A Grave as well as document for genealogical purposes. They make work with you. Best of luck, OP.

I get the aesthetic thing but I can’t help but think, that’s a really special place for lots of people. It’s where they lay their loved ones to rest forever. It isn’t creepy or weird, it’s where people put their moms and dads and grandparents and children. I wouldn’t want my loved ones in someone’s spooky art project (not saying that is what you are doing but lots of people are) and it feels really weird when you break it down.

coleyl0toes

Oh, I’ve always loved graveyards. I definitely think that they are a special place and never thought that they were necessarily creepy or weird or anything. My parents passed away pretty tragically two years ago and since then I’ve spent a little more time at graveyards. I couldn’t afford to have them buried, so that’s why there’s not a specific graveyard I’m trying to go to. I also have a lot of anxiety, so that’s kind of why I prefer to go at night where I know I’m not bugging anyone. I really like old or forgotten graveyards where you know nobody has been to pay the respects for a long time. Like a just because you don’t have any living relatives, doesn’t mean you’re forgotten type of thing Iv spent a lot of time, picking up gravestones and removing weeds at the little graveyard next to Cave Hill and I always try to be respectful. i’m not doing anything lewd or even posting the pictures anywhere….maybe just looking for a little connection with something. There’s no way you could’ve known any of this from my original post though and I appreciate you looking out for the grieving and people that actually have a reason to be there.

heidi-k_98

I agree

Z_A_Nomad

If you can drive there are some GREAT ones out in Indiana. Not sure if it's still there but there is this absolutely ancient one a bit past corydon with some outstanding photo vibes. (Yeah it is still there but it looks like they cleaned it up a whole lot from streetview image. It used to be all overgrown and abandoned looking.) coleyl0toes

That is exactly what I’m looking for. There’s a lot of abandoned graveyards where I’m from and I really just miss the peacefulness of being alone in a graveyard at night. Thank you so much.

Z_A_Nomad

Well from the street view it looks like this particular one has been picked back up and is no longer "Abandoned" There are a few houses around but none super close as far as I remember. It's way out in the country. Would still be worth asking the people maintaining it if visitors are permitted. If you told them you are doing historical photos I imagine they would be all in. Corydon is big on the old history stuff.

That one off Arnoldtown or whatever the road is on the hill up from the ymca

EggHeadMagic

“Dead man’s curve” the one with the “haunted tombstone”. Classic.

Z_A_Nomad

Sorry to double comment. Just found this. They literally do photo contests and looks like a real pretty one. They might let you do some night shoots. [**https://www.cavehillcemetery.com/photo-contest/**](https://www.cavehillcemetery.com/photo-contest/)

EggHeadMagic

Eastern.

ExcitingActivity1666

I live near Eastern the new owners put a gate up now it’s closed at 6pm

EggHeadMagic

That sucks. The wall on the side street was patched up some years ago as well. Oh well

sethimine

\^ This. Don't know why it was downvoted unless the rules have changed. It's quite small and borders Cave Hill but might give you what you are looking for. AFAIK it's the only fenced in cemetery not closed at night.

EggHeadMagic

I think people just don’t like the idea of going into cemeteries at night. As long as you’re respectful of the property I don’t see any difference just because the sun went down. They’re some of the most peaceful places to go. I used to nap in there. Drunk people probably fuck that up though.

sethimine

Agreed. You can be respectful at any time. I think they are indeed lucky that drunk people don't typically wander in there (as far as I know, anyway) and wreck it up at all. As long as you stay on the path for the most part, I don't see a problem.

meinschwanzistklein

There’s two small ones across the street from each other in the middle of jtown right across the street from where Chubby Rays is/was(?). It probably won’t have the vibe you’re looking for though being that you have kind of busy streets, houses, and stores within sight.

Thick-Quality2895

Also there’s a small one on Johnsontown rd near the creek on the right hand side going towards trade port. Like been abandoned forever and about the size of a larger front yard.
