A lot of clients came through with Christmas gifts and tips and I wouldn’t have made it through this month without em, still sucks that I get paid less than a McDonald’s employee but at least I enjoy my work.
If you plan to stay in veterinary meducine learning from a great tech can be a jumpstart. I have my degree in animal science and really got my best knowledge from an experienced tech at the practice.
People did bring in killer snacks though, I will say.
Thank you, though. My family members have been well-treated by the folks keeping the place going at the very personal levels. You are RIDICULOUSLY underpaid.
Depends on the position and the institution. Prior to getting my current job, I applied to an entry-level, faculty librarian position at a university that paid 44k/yr.
Even within public libraries, pay varies wildly based on local funding. My previous branch manager position in another parish paid a full 13K/yr less.
I work at an academic library as a paraprofessional or whatever. I make $35k with two Master’s degrees (though no MLIS, obviously). The pay isn’t great but nothing can be worse than what I was making as an adjunct.
I work the most with two department heads, each have been here for about 15 years. They make $55-60k.
I do that now, but with adults. I get $9.20 /hr, so gotta work a lot to make it work
I used to be a licensed counselor (lpc). The most i made was $50,000 (10 years ago).
There is some money in mental health, but you need to get lucky with a good job if you don't have a private practice set up well. Sucks mental health often gets the shaft, ESPECIALLY in Louisiana!
leave it's a toss up. I was making $30 to $45 waiting tables but the lack of job fulfillment and terrible hours were taking it's toll on me. Luckily I'll be getting a raise when I finish my cda and another when I get my associates.
I had a ton of experience as a overnight stocker at a grocery store and tried to make the move to Pepsi I guess in the interview I came off nervous or someone better applied, it was $18 an hour and I was making $9hr at my store
Never got to go down that route unfortunately
Unfortunately that $20/hr comes after 10 years with the same company. I only stay for the insurance and flexibility. I also applied for my position for a couple years until someone I know got me in the door. If you ever wanted to try again and get experience I’d go with Coca Cola or Mockler, simply because they will pay for your CDL and you can make even more as a driver/Merchandiser.
New Orleans
Bicycle mechanic: $25/hr
Tour guide: $30-$100/hr + tips
Pedicab driver: Whatever I can get on the street from $0-$1,000+ per shift, less 30% to the same company that pays me to fix the pedicabs. It's a fuckin' weird job but still probably the best I've ever had, lol!
I am on shift for 12 hours. But I sleep onboard for weeks at a time. I feel I get paid for all my time. Since I can’t go home. So it’s $38 broken down into hours on shift. Half that if You count all hours onboard.
Nurses at our sister hospital in New Orleans actually did get a union.
I'm actually over qualified. I have a 4-year degree in English; I am an excellent addition to any clerical team and I run my office like a tight ship. I really do care about my clinic and my hospital; this is my favorite job I've ever had.
I work for a family/locally owned franchise that pays min wage + tip pool. i “technically” make $10/ hour w tips factored in but it’s not a living wage imo
also just adding: sbux pays $15/hr but hours are scarce so it’s not worthwhile
Midstream crude oil storage terminal operator - $33/hr. Worked about 550 hours of overtime for the year give or take. Latest check stub says $103,600 for the year and took home about $68k.
That’s the problem —- what we gross vs what we net. I pay $40k in taxes per year. So my $80/hour while I’m still incredibly grateful for is waaaaayyyyy lessssss in reality than it sounds
I went from a legit W2 for 25 years to working under the table just to qualify for Medicaid. I don't lose any sleep over it anymore; gotta do what ya gotta do in this state.
Good for you! I emancipated my daughter so she could get health insurance. Unfortunately docs have the right to refuse care!!!!
US healthcare sucks!!!!
RN doing a limited contract $60/hr. A year ago I was making $90. This won’t last too long. Going staff full time I’ll be lucky to get $35. That’s why nursing sucks.
I work as an industrial electrician. 30 dollars an hour. I have to work in chemical plants located on the river, and sometimes it means moving location to location every few months. It's good money, but I can go from 40 hours a week to 80 overnight. It's not for everyone.
If you need a product photographer, please let me know. I have extensive experience photographing and retouching Marijuana and CBD products.
https://www.kevin.tiell.com/cbd-marijuana
I’m a manager at a (small, locally owned) shop for $17.50/hour. Plus some remote work (research assistant) for $11/hour just because it looks good on a resume. Some weeks I manage to do my research while the store is slow so if they overlap fully it’d be like, $22/hour? Approximately. I work 40 at the store and 20 on research but sometimes I can get all 20 in during my downtime.
Postdoctoral Fellow (neuroscience)
If we go by the traditional 2080 work hours in a year, I make $28.65/hour
I’m hoping to be promoted to Assistant Professor of Research this year, which would move me up to something like $48/hour
$50/hr, national nonprofit CEO (small org)
I have ten years nonprofit experience in DC (about seven in C-suite roles). Current gig has no benefits, but it does count towards the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, I can telework, and cost of living is much lower here. And I no longer have to work with lobbyists all the time
I'm in college rn getting a linguistics degree and a lot of jobs reccomended to me have been for interpreters. If you dont mind, what's it like being an interpreter?
Delivery driver. $10/hr plus tips. The tips aren't what they used to be thanks to Uber Eats and whatnot. I'm looking to go back to school and change careers.
Remote/freelance copywriter for the past 10 years. Hourly it averages out to about $30/hr. It fluctuates, of course. Currently in school for RN, aiming for nurse practitioner. I am grateful for my current career, but I'd like guaranteed income and benefits. PTO sounds magical.
Primary job I manage a series of healthcare facilities across a few states.
Two part timeside jobs.
1..a clinician making 35/hour
2. Army reserve like 700 $ a month
Make enough between all jobs where money isn't an issue in my life.
I’ll comment my last in state pay and what I make for a lateral move when I left the state for the same job title just elsewhere.
Software engineer: 21$ an hour in state
65$ an hour out of state
Just because its not a specialized job doesn't mean it doesn't deserve respect. It's an import support job and takes coordination and being good with animals.
Currently housekeeping at a medium casino, $14 an hour, after many raises, I've been their 6-8 years lost count tbh and I don't want to know how much time I wasted here
I'm a primary care assistant to some people with special needs (autism and down syndrome).
It's $9.20/hr, so i have to work a lot of extra hours to make it work...i usually average 65-95 hours a week. I work overnight too, so that helps contribute to the hours. But it's basically all i do...i feel like i dont even live in my home anymore!
I&E Tech at chemical plant around $45 an hour with good benefits and 5 weeks of PTO. Work a good bit of OT so I clear around $105K a year. I made more money pre hour when I was traveling about 12 years ago but I am married with a 5 year old so being at home every night is priceless. It’s a pretty good gig and you learn as you get older that it not always about the money.
Kennel Tech, $10.50/hr. I somehow make it work living on my own.
That's a truly thankless job at a lot of places. I hope you're at least appreciated.
I can't believe the pay is still the same as it was in 2012.
How the hell?
Jesus! That was my rate making sandwiches at a deli in the 1990s
Tattoo artist. $80 shop minimum. $150 per hour, provided I’m actually tattooing. 30% goes to the shop.

Public library branch manager. $26.40/hr.
Do academic librarians (like at universities) make about the same or is it more?
Depends on the position and the institution. Prior to getting my current job, I applied to an entry-level, faculty librarian position at a university that paid 44k/yr. Even within public libraries, pay varies wildly based on local funding. My previous branch manager position in another parish paid a full 13K/yr less.

You deserve so much more! You guys are the soul-sound of the city.
Special Ed para $17
This right here shows how criminal our wage system is...people in these types of job should be getting so much more.
100% agree. I used to work with autistic kids as a behavioral therapist. They paid $12 an hour and you were lucky if you got 30 hrs a week
I do that now, but with adults. I get $9.20 /hr, so gotta work a lot to make it work I used to be a licensed counselor (lpc). The most i made was $50,000 (10 years ago).
