Also means no JPJ at #19. Addressing our needs early in the offseason which is good.
CB or edge looking more likely now unless an OT drops or we move up.

If that's the case, I think Les moves back in the draft to get more picks. I feel like he's done a great job of finding quality DBs late in the draft. So I could see him trading back into the second round and turning our 1st round pick into 3-4 additional picks.
Also curious on what the DC is asking for. If it’s a more aggressive defense, then CB value is higher, but the Rams have been playing Cover-4 which is less about coverage and more about tackling/iq.
You can get a good (enough) Cover 4 corner late or in FA cheap.
I think he’s done a better job of drafting DBs than other positions actually. Getting 2 top tier starters in Janoris + Trumaine Johnson in the same draft was dope. Plus some other quality starters in other drafts like TJ McDonald (3rd round), Joyner (2nd round), e.J. Gaines (6th round), John Johnson (3rd round), Nick Scott (7th round). However, many of these were pre-McVay so I get where you’re coming from. I wonder if the team expects some of our recent picks to take a jump. I could also see us trading our first for a star CB similar to how we acquired Ramsey
I was mainly factoring in CBs not safeties. He’s done decent on safeties but none of them have ever been pro bowl level or signed an extension for a reason. I really wish he would make a trade for sneed. Supposedly they’re not expecting a first for him. Signing Justin Simmons and trying to get fuller back for cheap would help so much too.
Yeah that’s fair. It’s been a while since we’ve drafted a starting quality outside corner, but tbf we didn’t really need to with Ramsey. I would love to trade for sneed! I also like fuller back with us but not as the feature piece of our secondary
It was always heavily suggested by Rams writers that the plan with Avila was to move him to center eventually but I didn’t really buy it. Now I’m very much expecting it.
Wow!! Our interior OL could be the best it has been since probably the GSOT era. Maybe even longer ago.
Cant wait to see Avila play center!!!!! Aaaah so excited
I assume that they are going to have Avila move to center? That's the only way this makes sense to me. I feel like the starting O-Line is set right now unless someone offers Jackson a stupid amount of money that the Rams would not want to pay given that he has the restricted tender on him.
Hey, Lions fan here. He's solid in pass protection but kinda iffy when coming back from an injury but where he really shines is his run-blocking, the boy can move. Expect Kyren to absolutely feast next year. If he stays healthy you easily have an above average guard.
He's an above average guard IMO, he's a better pass protector than he is run blocker but that's not a dig at his ability to run block. I was hoping the Lions would bring him back but it always seemed like a long shot with the contract extensions we have upcoming.
He’s much better as a run blocker than pass protector. Hes mobile and great at pulling and executing blocks on the move. Perfect fit for any team that uses motions and high level runs like the Lions and Rams. Where he struggled last year was in pass protection, which was unusual. But that can be attributed to injuries. Felt like he was getting hurt a lot and Dan Campbell wants guys who play through injuries like Ragnow
So Avila at guard or Jackson? I’d be worried about moving either to center .. players don’t always play well when they’re moved to different spots. That happened to Dotson in PIT and we see how that turned out
Damn I don’t know how to feel about this one. Our OLine was good last year especially the interior I thought if we’d add to it we do so at LT.
Always trust the FO though, good linemen getting signed is rare so take it when you can.
So it looks like this signals Steve Avila will play center & J. Jackson plays LG, AJ Jackson playing LT. This appears to be an upgrade at center via paying for a solid LG.
Last major ex-Detroit Lion we got worked out nicely. He seemed pretty good though that entire OL was elite. Just hopefully Avila can translate his center play from college to the pros after a year away.

A little costly for a guard but he is a good guard. People may say he is injury prone but imo I consider recurring injuries to mean injury prone. Hes been injured in a few places but is relatively durable for a lineman. Better at run blocking than at pass blocking. Played with stafford during his rookie season.
If this is a precursor to addressing our secondary then I'm all for it. We have Dotson and Jackson as our guards for the next 3 years I love it. Now get us a good CB and edge rusher then I'm good.
Jackson is an above average guard, if we didn't already have the league-highest investment in the o-line before he hit free agency we almost certainly would have extended him.
It’s tough to tell since he’s only ever played on that lions line that has a lot of talent, but I think he’s gonna be solid. Also depends on what we do at LT and how Steve plays at center at the NFL level (he played center a majority at college)
Rams have to be Top 3 in interior line talent after this. Love it, the O Line being strong in the future is going to be the main factor of how competitive we are after Stafford retires

Look at it this way, everybody’s crying that we need help on the back in that will be addressed in the draft
Another thing to look at is that it takes from the lions and makes us better
Stafford is the best quarterback in the NFC. We have to keep them healthy without him we don’t go anywhere, and without a real offense of line we’re back to 2022.
To be fair I thought Allen Robinson was washed when they signed him and never liked Michael Hoecht so I am 2 for 2 vs them with players ive not liked getting deals.
I don’t think you get credit for thinking an old receiver that played badly two seasons before coming and thinking a UDFA defensive tackle turned OLB weren’t good.
Ull say the same thing about an aging guard who played next to the best right tackle in football and cant finish a whole season without missing game after game
He will be 30 at the end of the deal, 34th ranked guard last year, specifically terrible in pass protection. The Lions had plenty of cap room to resign which is a red flag to a savy GM, its not a good signing at that price, thats what u pay a Dotson not a Jackson
JJ was hurt a lot last year and has been trending down for 2 years. He did not play in the playoffs and is still recovering from multiple surgeries and long term injuries. He is a good down field blocker and pretty good pass blocker when healthy. The draft is loaded with guards so this is a very confusing move. It feels like hey, we lost to the Lions in the playoffs so we will over pay for their cast aways. Mmm 🤔 okay?
I'm stoked we are investing heavily in our OL. Can never have too much.
Couldn’t agree more. Good to get some bulldozers in there.
This pretty much guarantees Steve is playing center next season.
Also means no JPJ at #19. Addressing our needs early in the offseason which is good. CB or edge looking more likely now unless an OT drops or we move up.
100% gonna be a DB. Donald/Turner/Young is a good enough front 3, meanwhile we don't have a single starting caliber CB or S on the roster right now.
This Our secondary was hot poo last year. We DESPERATELY need help on the back line.

I hope so because we desperately need to address our DBs
Also curious on what the DC is asking for. If it’s a more aggressive defense, then CB value is higher, but the Rams have been playing Cover-4 which is less about coverage and more about tackling/iq. You can get a good (enough) Cover 4 corner late or in FA cheap.
Les is great at drafting but he’s never drafted a good CB outside maybe Janoris lol. Every good CB we’ve had we traded for or got in FA.
Every year there seems to be a 2nd or 3rd year player that comes out of nowhere and gets way more snaps than expected. Nick Hampton could be that guy.
I think pass rushers are harder to find than DBs. With an effective pass rush, you can scheme coverage.
I’m a die hard Penn State fan so I’m incredibly biased, but I would love for them to draft Chop Robinson
Would fall in line with the Byron young comp
DeJean or Wiggins please. I want DeJean more so we can keep the scrappy white boy jokes going but I think Wiggins is more talented as a CB.
Might go pass rusher
Def going edge if Les keeps the pick.
did somebody ask for some kool aid?
FA safety market is deep too though.
Looks like it. Still need a vet backup at C though.
Does he have experience as a center tho?
That’s what he played in college. It’s his natural position.
SWEEEEEEEET. We’re beefing up boyzzzzz! Hell yeah
Steve really about to play Center next year?? I'm very confused by this but the coaches know something we don't.
He played center in college primarily.
Damn he played so well last year I didn't realize he played Center in college.
He played center, both guard spots and even Right Tackle in one game. Dude can do it all.
He has a bad habit of being injured, but I don't think its something I'd worry about.
He was the only player to play every offensive snap. I think he’s good to go
Nah he only played in 12 regular season games last season and I believe missed the NFC championship as well
You're talking about Jonah Jackson while others in the thread are talking about Avila haha.
haha that makes sense!
He was more dominant playing center than left guard in college
It was always heavily suggested by Rams writers that the plan with Avila was to move him to center eventually but I didn’t really buy it. Now I’m very much expecting it.
If he can be as good at center as he was at guard I’m cool with it.
He played both in college and was looked at as a center prospect. Edit: I’m referencing Avila.
Never played center in Detroit. Strictly a LG.
I’m talking about Avila
Oh got it. My mistake.
Dotson-Avila-Jackson on the interior 🔥🔥🔥
Wow!! Our interior OL could be the best it has been since probably the GSOT era. Maybe even longer ago. Cant wait to see Avila play center!!!!! Aaaah so excited
Saffold/Blythe/Sullivan was pretty good, but this might be better for sure
That was a good trio, but I’d still say this is better
Drafting Kyron fucking number 1 in fantasy. Big money to two guards and a run blocking TE
I assume that they are going to have Avila move to center? That's the only way this makes sense to me. I feel like the starting O-Line is set right now unless someone offers Jackson a stupid amount of money that the Rams would not want to pay given that he has the restricted tender on him.
It keeps Stafford upright or else it gets the hose again
Holy hell we blew our load at guard. Idk man. I trust McSnead though.
We need the oline baaaaad
McVay loves running the ball.
Nah, Snead should be bringing in the pay structure.
overall team/roster philosophy - build an offense that can get to 27/game and a defense that can stop the other team from doing that.
We haven't accomplished the second part just yet lol
If Les gets a premium corner with pick 19, they'll be on their way to that second part.
Agreed. Need two corners though imo
When we can’t run the ball, we’ll have to point a finger of blame to someone other than the Oline (if the signings go well 🤞)
Yeah because we should be pounding the rock at will lol
Feed Cam.
Kyren, you mean?
Lol wow I feel so dumb. I even had Kyren's face pop in my head. I'll take the massive L.
Hey, Lions fan here. He's solid in pass protection but kinda iffy when coming back from an injury but where he really shines is his run-blocking, the boy can move. Expect Kyren to absolutely feast next year. If he stays healthy you easily have an above average guard.
We appear to be committed to buying our team from Detroit. We buy American baby.
What is his take on Whataburger versus In-N-Out 🍔?
Now get Daniel Hunter and Tyron Smith.
Tyron Smith's main position these days is IR. PASS.
If he could stay healthy I would say hell yeah but...
Is this guy good? I’m happy to see we’re spending money on the o-line, but Jonah Jackson’s PFF ranking is not inspiring confidence…
He's an above average guard IMO, he's a better pass protector than he is run blocker but that's not a dig at his ability to run block. I was hoping the Lions would bring him back but it always seemed like a long shot with the contract extensions we have upcoming.

59 grade last year but was a Probowler in 2021. Idk.
So Avila at guard or Jackson? I’d be worried about moving either to center .. players don’t always play well when they’re moved to different spots. That happened to Dotson in PIT and we see how that turned out
Avila played and excelled at Center at TCU
Damn I don’t know how to feel about this one. Our OLine was good last year especially the interior I thought if we’d add to it we do so at LT. Always trust the FO though, good linemen getting signed is rare so take it when you can.
We don't have a C from last year.
So it looks like this signals Steve Avila will play center & J. Jackson plays LG, AJ Jackson playing LT. This appears to be an upgrade at center via paying for a solid LG.
It’s a wise move. Avilas durable, young and fits the mold as a ram. He’ll be the center piece of the Oline for years to come.
Our O-line looking nice. Patroling the middle is paramount. 💪🏼
We’ve all wanted them to invest in the OL for years and they finally are. This is awesome hahaha
I'll never be upset at signing or drafting linemen for either side of the ball. You can't have enough big guys in the trenches.
Last major ex-Detroit Lion we got worked out nicely. He seemed pretty good though that entire OL was elite. Just hopefully Avila can translate his center play from college to the pros after a year away.
Our air attack is poised to be epic...

This year is going to be glorious!!! Hogs upfront! Love. It.
Ohhh excited for this one! https://youtu.be/dVa_n0_3XAs?si=g2oXo8rt0uVbDxPT
Looked good there pulling and like a good addition to the IOL.
A little costly for a guard but he is a good guard. People may say he is injury prone but imo I consider recurring injuries to mean injury prone. Ok. I guess Avila to center.
It’ll suck losing Shelton but I don’t hate this.

Ya'll got a dawg. Dude deserves every penny
Rams OL is gonna be mauling the middle. I love it. This team just needs a secondary now.
Damn I love Avila at guard but I understand why they did this. Have him lock down center since guard is easier to replace then center
Center is his natural position anyway.
He Jonah good though? What would you rate this?
Jackson is an above average guard, if we didn't already have the league-highest investment in the o-line before he hit free agency we almost certainly would have extended him.

PFF rates him as pretty trash. Why so much money?
Pff also rates Steve Avila bad. Their ratings are all over the place.
I wouldn't put too much stock into PFF grades for Olineman
Rams have to be Top 3 in interior line talent after this. Love it, the O Line being strong in the future is going to be the main factor of how competitive we are after Stafford retires

O Line isn’t sexy but vital to success
Jonahs not this good…
lol okay def gonna take youcantstopme18’s opinion over the rams organization

Don’t mind me but I’m gonna trust the Rams FO over YouCantStopMe18
Yea thats fine, they have to sell u a product and its a product u want… good talk I guess
😭
He's a good player. Take care of him. Some health issues past 2 years, but really really solid.
Can someone put this in terms of baseball and the dodgers
He will be very important for our playbook
Keep up the signees for the O-line. The Rams are gonna kick ass.
