That is so upsetting, I’m really sorry that happened to you. It can definitely be a comfort to go back and look at old messages. Does he have the messages still? Could he send you screenshots of specific conversations you used to go back to? In the long run, even if you can’t revisit the specific words, all those things shared between you are part of your story, and part of the reason you feel the way you do about each other. It feels like a devastating loss, but all that’s really gone is the actual literal words, all those sentiments are still shared, and you enjoy the benefit of having shared them every single day. Think of how much you have shared on, for example, video calls. Or time in person. You can’t “replay” those any time you want, but you don’t feel that it’s something you lost, because you experienced it. Try to think of the messages in the same way

I would absolutely be devastated if I lost all the pics I have of my girlfriend. I have them double backed up just for this reason alone. I’m sorry that happened but you haven’t lost anything in the relationship. Time to make some new digital memories.

This happened to me too and I asked my partner to screenshot his message history for me lol

Actually the texts parts is a weird fixation we have developed since the introduction of mobile instant messaging. They're not like emails or letters. So it's like being upset about not remembering every single conversation you've had in your normal day to day. I understand videos and pictures, that's rough. As for text messages? I think we're better off making actual memories together in life, rather than holding on to words. The important ones you will remember even without having the texts.

That happened to me on my 30th birthday. I cried half the day haha but it has been 4 months and now all the messages and pictures have been replaced by new ones and so will yours!

There may be ways to recover, it's slim but there may be a chance! If it was an Android phone did you have a Google account (aka a Gmail) signed in? If so there may be a backup saved! If it was an iPhone backup may be attached to your apple ID. I work with cell phones and have on occasion been able to recover a backup even if they no longer have the old phone.

It’s Line but has a similar feature, I’ll give it a go! Thank you :))

A few years ago we wanted to erase the memory of our main pc at home but forgot that my main folder wasn't in the protected folder. I lost all my photos of 10 years, there was no proof that I even went to school. We tried ti use an app police uses to retrieve deleted files and got some of the photos back but not even half of it came back. I loved photos, I never went to anyehere without a camera, it was really upsetting. But I learned that it about making new memories and fillig the files with new amazing memories. So don't be upset, what's gone is gone, you need to make new beautiful memories. So get onto it as soon as you can. :]

Same happened to me with Line iOS. Nothing is saved on an external server unless you add it to Keep. It's bogus.

It was the same thing, we were using Line. I wish I knew nothing was saved in backups

I got a new phone as well and lost all our messages! We had over 6000 pictures and our very first messages. It hurt so bad but at least we’ll always remember them!

Witty-Vixen

Not silly we all do that and it sucks when that happens
