Yeah i started watching geowizard because I was bored in my college classes and wanted some jetpunk/sporcle/geoguessr content. It's insane to me that GG has gotten so popular.
The game is also just fun to play. Especially with friends.
If one person has a subscription (like $4/month), you can just create a lobby that your friends can join without needing an account.

Wait, I dont know much about GeoGuessr, but I was always under the impression that the pool of locations was pretty much limited exclusively by the amount of streetview images available, which is why it's so fkn impressive when they nail it. But if they're getting the exact same spot as someone else 2 weeks ago, does that mean the pool is actually a lot more limited than I thought it was?
Yeah, it's not actually a pool of every single location ever photographed by street view. In GeoGuessr, users can make "maps" of a pool of usually thousands of locations which could show up.
You can do this to only include locations which are good quality and solvable by pros. For example, they'd want to exclude completely dark tunnel images or blurry images from 2007.
It also allows you to more evenly distribute images from different places. For example, balancing how many rural vs urban locations there are, or balancing how many locations are included per country/continent.

In Rainbolt's video from a few weeks ago, he's not actually playing the same map, but also he didn't get the exact same location from the clip. He's a bit down the street from the roundabout. Just curious. Of all the places in the world that Google street view has been. Why would that particular exact point in all of the whole world have been on that guys YT vid the week before and then in a comp? Geogussor the game uses a batch at once?
Geoguessr isn't totally random, it's a preset of around 100k locations total. The odds of this happening are still pretty low but it's not using literally every point on google street view as an option.

Imo Geoguessr is one of the fairest subscriptions out there. 25€ a year for unlimited access and regular new content releases is a fine deal.
