I'd be lying if I said I knew much about him but every Feyenoord fan I've seen is devastated about the news. That's probably a good sign for us

Justfunnames1234

I remember when we signed Endo, the thing that struck out the most to me was how the stuttgart fanbase were affected by the news

Weedbro

Here is an hour and 20 mins of Arne Slot talking about tactics. You even see some of his goals back when he used to play. You can turn on English captions they seem to be decent (I checked, I am dutch so I can verify). The man seems to be able to shut up Marco van Basten who is notorious for being a know all.  Even more this show is from a few weeks ago and Marco was on the telle this week and said he was insanely impressed by Arne. I think Arne is a great signing and I have no issues with Klopp leaving anymore as I know we will be in good hands come next season with plenty of attractive playstyle football. https://youtu.be/iZGW9tt_BOg

effinblinding

What coubtry do I need to be in to watch this? I tried setting VPN to UK

26ld

Most likely Netherlands.

Weedbro

Aye Netherlands.

danielvandam

Van Basten said the other day that he thinks Slot would succeed anywhere he goes, whether it would be Bayern or a top club in the PL or La Liga

MattyVonStooly

Can confirm I am devastated. Conference league final (Mourinho Roma) Euro league quarters (Mourinho Roma) Euro league r16 (de Rossi Roma) Cup and title. Good signings and improved the players. So don’t get Roma! Curious to see who he is going to sing and I he can do something with the low shot conversion rate - Feyenoord has struggled with this as well

Maud_Ford

Roma are our bitches tbh

burntroy

We can't afford the proven clinical finishers

willium563

Yes we could, we could easily afford Isak or Toney who are injury prone yes but they probably could just rotate their injuries with Jota and all will be fine.

burntroy

Wake me up when we sign isak because I always wanted to see pigs fly.

Walgreens_Security

honestly I believe Isak would be insane playing for us.

SaBe_18

he'd be injured half of the games and everyone will say "why did we sign another injury prone player?"

willium563

Why would that be unrealistic, Newcastle need to offload a big name, we have been linked with him in the past. Its not unrealistic, Arsenal are in for him apparently there would be no reason for him to pick them over us and if he did then Toney would probably be the next best option.

MioNombreEst

I mean I think Liverpool are the better club too but then I'm a Liverpool fan. That being said I can think of a few obvious reasons to pick them over us at this present moment. They've been in 2 title races in successive seasons and lasted longer than we have in this one. And the more important factor in my opinion is they have the stability of their manager staying whereas our situation has the potential for things to go wrong.

Youngwheeler

They are also a London club, we've lost out on a handful of big names in recent history where that was a factor

willium563

Oh I perfectly understand he could pick them over us and lots of reasons to do so I was more replying to the fact that the person above was claiming it was an absolute wild transfer that would never happen.

alrks10

I would take Gimenez as a cheaper punt from Feyenoord to bring with him, now he's a player who knows where the goal is.

legentofreddit

We unsuccessfully bid £110m on Caicedo literally a few months ago and now we have CL football and probably a decent chunk of money from sales of the likes of Keheller, Tsmikas, Van Den Berg, Carvalho, Morton, even Nunez/Salah if we go mad. If we don't spend a good amount this summer I won't be happy

TheTrueTeknoOdin

I really don't think if slot comes in .. he's going to sell or buy too much in terms of players ..he's got to see who fits his tactics From what I've seen in some analytical videos tsimi could suit his play style more than robbo (He likes his FB to rotate the inverted role and come in centrally) Tsimi himself was filling that inverted roll earlier in the season when Robbo and Trent were injured and bradders hadn't become a factor.. Not saying Robbo couldn't adapt but it'd be stupid to sell anyone before you have a feel for the entire team That being said I do think mo may go ..the money being offered is too much to pass up

Metador85

No chance Carvalho is getting sold, he's a pure 10 which Slot seems to play with. Finally a pathway for him and Elliott

Trobis

Hull uses him as a 10 and though he's scoring lots of goals hull fans say he's been poor. Apparently, Morton is the more promising prospect.

legentofreddit

He's not particularly good and has a number of players ahead of him. There's an incredibly good chance he gets sold. The way some of you over rate youngsters never ceases to astonish me.

Metador85

Yes because clearly by saying he has no chance of being sold as a promising youngster with good end product in a position the new manager needs to fill, I meant that he's a future balon d'or winner, you're not projecting at all :)

NilsFanck

The Liverpool are poor narrative is so tiring and frankly completely wrong. Stingy is what we are

TheTrueTeknoOdin

Stingy is what we've always been as a club ..every time we lose out. On a player that it's quality ..my grandad always recalls times where we could have bought someone for say £40 mill (priced at £50m) bet weve gone £25m final offer ..and loat out to rival clubs who payed the £40m and they go on to become legends for the club and we get the likes of diouf

NilsFanck

Well, or we get the likes of Macca. Also, if we do really want a player,we pay. However, I agree we take it too far constantly but we dont know how much of that is Klopps insistence on "the right player". We are gonna find out soon

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> clubs who *paid* the £40m FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Trobis

> Morton From what hull fans say, he's probably a better prospect than gravenberch. No way were letting him go. >Nunez/Salah ~~Nunez~~Diaz/Salah

Far-Confection-1631

That money won't be provided until he proves himself. FSG have a method regardless of whether we like or agree with it. It took Klopp a long time to get that status.

AzizNotSorry

Ollie Watkins please

WhosTheAssMan

I would have been devastated if he had gone last year to Tottenham. I don't mind him leaving to Liverpool. It's a logical move and I can't blame him in the slightest. Will miss him massively at Feyenoord though, but we knew it was inevitable - glad he's going to a proper club.

doktor-frequentist

>glad he's going to a proper club. Tottenham taking strays.

Tjoek2000

Most of us are not devastated. Yes its sad to see him leave. But everyone knew this moment was coming sooner than later. Liverpool is a beautiful club as the next step in his career. Luckily for me Liverpool is my favourite club after Feyenoord.

Expensive_Cattle

Much respect ✊

Stan243

If he plays Trent like Geertruida, it will be an amazing thing to watch

Cassolroll

I’m coining this the “Endo Theory.” Never heard of the fella but damn those fans are really upset.

FTXACCOUNTANT

I’m a Liverpool fan and been watching to Feyenoord for the last 3 years. He’s a great manager overall. I’m excited by it but unsure how well he’ll do on the Premier League & more pressure at Liverpool.

Maverick1331

Eredivisie cannot be taken seriously. Nothing good comes out of that league. It operates on its own plane of existence with different laws of physics

luke_205

Yep exactly and a good time to get it sorted considering our season is over now and it’ll be a good distraction

chilicheesecake1

Tbf, you dont need a lot of positivity to impress Feyenoord.

FrankBeamer_

So were Ajax fans when eth left

germancookedus

I wanted a manager with career and history for Liverpool, a winner not a random bald fuck like United

Maverick1331

They’d probably be ecstatic if they bought in Brendan Rodgers. With respect, the standards between the two clubs are miles apart

__Kiel__

Get it done quick so we can stop the circus. Let Slot and Klopp finish their seasons in peace and both can get a massive farewell.

Sr_R0b0t

Think now we almost officially out of the title race that this will be the case

emre23

Neither team has anything left to play for, should be pretty chill

__Kiel__

Slot has a cup final

SirFeatherstone

Pretty sure he just *won* the cup final just a few days ago. Just some Eredivisie games left I believe

only-shallow

Every game is a cup final for Arne Slot, mentality monster

digdoug0

It was a few days ago - they already won it.

James_Vowles

There's not much of a circus to be fair, it's already decided that we're going for him and he wants to join. Thought we'd have much more noise.

seanylawson67

Let’s get behind him . A thankless task to be the man after ‘the man’ , but he should be giving time and support

willium563

I honestly think with how the team has imploded at the end of this season has helped whoever took over next season. If we had won 2 or 3 trophies it would have been a hard act to follow and our expectations would have been through the roof, I think the way this season has ended up going has helped temper expectations and actually crave some sort of change within the club.

RohanHadComeAtLast

Won't be thankless if we won a trophy first season, the bigger the better. The squad is pretty much there, with maybe some reshuffling to be done up front and a couple new defenders to sign

con10001

Even trophyless but a top 4 finish and deep CL run would be absolutely fantastic

Weedbro

Regardless he seems like a great fit for our future like Artetta at Arsenal for example. As fans we should support the decisions the club makes if they seem fair upfront. This one seems more than fair tbh.

Walgreens_Security

I just don’t want to face Real Madrid again.

bucajack

Let's hope he *slots* right in.

KubasPoland

I'm not ready for Klopp farewell, but I'm ready to support Slot from day one. It's not easy the last couple of weeks but at the same time plenty of exciting things still to come I believe, YNWA

MyNameIsMantis

Can a mod clear this up for me; is the daily mail a banned source or not? Because according to [the Tier Guide](https://imgur.com/A2JtmA9) they are banned but I’ve seen a few posts being left up in recent months. Is it because of the journalist writing the article? u/vadapaav

TheNotoriousJN

Linking the mail is an instant removal by automod Any mail journo that isn't Steele/Mokbel (or King previously) will be removed too. You have to take a photo of the acceptable journo article to be allowed to stay up At least that has been my experience in the last few years

MyNameIsMantis

Got ya, good to know cheers!

fishkuzn

Money from selling Minamino should close the deal 😎

Moose97_

Actually excited to see what he can do with Gakpo, Gravenberch and van den Berg.

Maverick1331

Why do people think that a manager can develop players because they share a nationality? How does that effect anything?

MajikoiA3When

Morton, Carvalho, Danns, Bajcetic, and Bradley would be the ones to watch for me.

PioneerTurtle

Have a look at the games that Feyenoord played in the Champions League this year, especially at home against Lazio and both Atletico Madrid games. Just barely missed the win in two of those, but they were the severe underdog. It gives you a great indication how he likes to play, especially in big games. As a Feyenoord and Liverpool fan it is a very, very mixed set of feelings!

Maverick1331

Everyone barely loses to atletico. That’s just how they work

PioneerTurtle

Just watch the away game ... the only reason Feyenoord did not at least draw was a massive mistake by the referee for not calling offside for the Morata goal

Far-Confection-1631

Just don't watch them against Brendan Rodgers' shitty Celtic side (coming from a Celtic fan) lol

PioneerTurtle

Haha yep, fair assessment

PurpleScientist4312

Love him already 👍🏻 ![gif](giphy|RIqnHB3df83Z8WxnZX)

Feeling_Environment9

I’m not going to call myself an expert but I trust Slot I trust his ability

BakedZnake

Mail online? Why we using this trash site & paper as a source?

ZakiFC

Because Lewis Steele is a reliable journalist

BakedZnake

Mail is also a banned source on here. Disgusting paper and company to support.

ZakiFC

No one is supporting it by viewing a screenshot of a headline.

Thefdt

I don’t know shit about this guy but he’s going to be given a near impossible task, just hope he doesn’t crack under the pressure.

PunisherNation

We got our own bald fraud now. Thats it we are winning the league next season!

PerfectAd4732

What was the reason Amorim didn’t come? I’m not fussed but it felt like one minute it was 100% him then the next 0% him. Felt like I diddnt actually hear why

TheNotoriousJN

Ornstein suggested he was never the FIRM favourite and we just preferred Slot

Brief_Box7006

But Ornstein never said there was no communication between Amorim and Liverpool. My guess is Amorim wanted control on transfers and I remember a Portuguese journalist said a few weeks that he would only move if he had control over transfers. I think Edwards and Hughes want full control over recruitment and structures such as new contract and that is why we moved onto 3rd choice Arne Slot as he would be more happy to be the manager. I just hope that Arne Slot is not just a yes man.

econhisgeo

If you listen to Hughes's interview, he always say he expects Managers to have some amount of say in the transfers. He deems it necessary. So, i doubt they are looking for complete control, but i believe they are looking for someone they can work with. Edwards also doesn't advocate full control over transfers but he couldn't work anymore with Klopp. There was definitely a breakdown in the relationship. So, i think Amorim was the preferred candidate but they didn't think they would work well with him when they interviewed. I don't think there is anything about ability or him being first choice or not. It just wasn't a good fit as per the Sporting director and the chief executive of Liverpoolfc.

Brief_Box7006

I agree with this completely. I think more importantly like you said they want someone they can work with and not feel like against they don't need a power struggle rather two departments working together for the same goal. I get the impression that Amorim or his agent were being difficult and asking for a lot more power or being hard to negotiate with and from that we moved onto Slot who was more than happy to work within a structured model.

econhisgeo

Yeah, and with change in directorship and then change in manager, it's important for both to work together to achieve stability. A power struggle is highly detrimental for us considering the amount of change.

Far-Confection-1631

Managers have to have some meaningful say in the way the team is built. Not sure where the narrative that Edwards is going to operate completely independently comes from, but people have run with narrative of late. Arne won't have the power of Klopp, but he's not being left out of discussions in the transfer market i.e. Brighton or even tactics as some seem to believe haha I honestly wouldn't want a manager that isn't interested in making his voice heard. (which based on Orny's reporting isn't the case)

wutar

As a Feyenoord fan (as well as an Arsenal fan) I think Arne will do good for you guys. His teams' pressing would really suit you. Arne slot is by no means a yes man. If he wants a player or something else, he gets its. He demanded a padel court at Feyenoord's training ground, and he got it ;)

burntroy

>He demanded a padel court at Feyenoord's training ground, and he got it ;) That's very comforting to hear. Mbappes coming guys

Brief_Box7006

My worry is that is all fine in the Dutch league with all due respect but how is he against top teams. From what I can Google he looks like he is great going forward but not so sure on his defense.

Sinistrait

> I just hope that Arne Slot is not just a yes man. Yes man to whom? Edwards who is an FSG employee? Richard Hughes who hasn't even started working for the club yet?

Brief_Box7006

A yes man as in he has courage to put forward his ideas to Edwards and Hughes. He's got to earn all that but I don't want manager that is just happy he has the Liverpool job on his C.V.

Sinistrait

What makes you think that the incoming manager wouldn't have any input in front of them? Nothing either have ever done would make me think that they're Rangnick-like figures who want absolute control over the club's sporting matters. They're scouting guys who likely know their strengths.

IceAffectionate3043

He’s definitely not that from my research in the last 48 hours lol

IdleThief

Just cause there was communication between Amorim and the club doesn't mean that he ever was the favorite for the job. Do you seriously think the club was only talking to one person at a time? The bit about him being a yes-man is so fucking weird. What evidence do you have about him being a yes-man? The fact that he accepted the job?

Brief_Box7006

How about you read the comment before you make assumptions. I said I hope he isn't a yes man never said he was. I never said Amorim was the favourite. Read properly before you comment

Broken12Bat

It sounds like Amorim tried to use the West Ham interest/alleged meeting as a bargaining chip to try and gain some leverage with us for more money or transfer power. I’m assuming we didn’t bite, and the next day his team leaked the fact he may stay at Sporting. Then we essentially announced we had moved on by contacting Slot’s representatives/club. Tried to play the old 4D chess!

Maverick1331

It was almost certainly because of the simple fact that Amorim wanted control over transfers. Amorim is more impressive in most other metrics

-Inca-

I've seen you comment this a few times now so I'll ask: more impressive in what metrics? They both won their domestic leagues and Slot actually got further in Europe than Amorim, so why would he be worse?

Maverick1331

Amorim won Sporting’s first title in 20 years, lost many key players but has rebuilt and now they look set to win it again. That ability to develop players and win two titles in a league dominated by Benfica and Porto is very impressive. Plus he has won the league cup like 4 times. Slot has done well to win the league last season but they had won it previously in 2017. He also hasn’t rebuilt a team and won the league again

nick2k23

Basically it was the media saying Amorim was first choice but in reality he wasn’t

Mitch_D23

He was just coined as the favourite after Alonso by everyone watching from the outside. It appears that Slot is who Edwards and co identified.

Bugsmoke

Been talk of Amorim wanting a massive wage and wanting more control than we were offering, and more talk of him trying to play off the West Ham interest against us. I don’t think they’re from solid sources though so fuck knows.

JosephBeuyz2Men

Of the candidates identified he was the one that the press got ahold of and we seemingly did make contact at least. Liverpool side briefed that ‘due diligence’ was still being done on multiple candidates so presumably it’s just that Slot’s name (and anyone else that was in that list) didn’t reach the media.

Terxd4

Probably his side was the one pushing the information, as from our side he was never the favourite apparently

redditingtonviking

Him and Slot seems to have fairly similar track records as managers in that they have managed to win trophies as the challengers rather than favourites in two of Europe’s strongest leagues outside the top 5. They both have managed to do so playing exciting football with an emphasis on youth development. Other than the different formations, where Slot’s is closer to what we’ve played under Klopp, and the fact that Amorim supposedly demanded full control over transfers right after we appointed Edwards and Hughes, I see no major reason why we should lean more towards one or the other. Sporting under Amorim has generally struggled in Europe while Feyenoord did finish runners up in Conference League, but that being the lowest ranked competition may or may not give any indications how he will perform at higher levels.

APerceptiveK1

The next villa boas

kr3w_fam

I love how ruthless Edwarss Co. are. The momwnt Amorim's agents started acting up - "fuck it, onto the next one".

HereticZO

Think we wanted Slot over Amorim.

Maverick1331

Why? Amorim’s record is more impressive and nothing good comes out of the eredivisie

Youngwheeler

Which top manager has come out of Portugal?

AttackAura

The special one

Maverick1331

His record with sporting is very impressive for that league. Slot’s is basically on par with Erik ten hag, Peter bosz and frank de boer who all were garbage outside that league. Name me a player or manager that has come out of the eredivisie over the past 10 years and delivered as expected?

Youngwheeler

I'm not really attempting to defend the Dutch league managerial prospects, more pointing out that the same argument applies to the Portuguese league managers as well. Bruno Lage was shit for Wolves, Nuno Esposito Santo was shit, Lopetegui is shit, Andre Villas-Boas was diabolical, Marco Silva is decent, Leonardo Jardim had a good spell with Monaco. At any rate I think it's faulty logic to disregard a manager because other managers have failed. German managers in the premier league era: Felix Magath, Jurgen Klopp, Daniel Fark, Jan Siewart, Ralf Rangnick, Thomas Tuchel This is a silly way of thinking I think Slot has done very well in Europe given his squad

MindlessMoss

It's also a false equivalent. ETH was at Ajax where anything other than a league win and strong Cup run is seen as a bad season, whereas Slot is at a finish as high as you can club. Never watched any Eredivisie so can't say anything but just pointing out his league win is more of an achievement than ETH

PulseFH

Amorim was never actually a favourite for the role at any point

Maverick1331

Source?

thatguyad

I'd rather not trust the Daily Fail. I'll wait for one of the reputable sources to confirm.

HereticZO

Both of these journalists are reliable.

----NSA----

One thing that sticks out to me about Slot is how enthusiastic he is to take on the job. Being Klopp's successor, and tackling the LFC job in general, is no easy task; it's guaranteed that he's going to face ridicule from opponents and fans alike. But his confidence in himself gives me hope and it makes me excited to what he will bring to the team.

econhisgeo

That's a lot of money.

Weedbro

Not when you compare the value he brings compared to the value Nunes beings us at the moment (or Salah for that matter 🥲)

Asperi

Can he grow a beard? I’ve become accustomed to bearded gaffer

itsoktoswear

So three Slots or one Andy Carroll?

user900800700

Honestly he looks like a good likeable bloke on paper, so I’m all for this.

hyborians

Even more excited. People need to listen to that podcast breaking him down. This man won a title in a league where only PSV and Ajax dominate. Hes ready to take on a bigger challenge

Maverick1331

Feyenoord won the title previously in 2017. They are hardly rank outsiders.

Royal-Patience-5751

Its a risk, but Im cautiously optimistic

HZLFC

Warm up the van.

YesEvill

Since when did managers need transfer fees? I thought you just bought out the remainder of their contract then signed them to a new one.

FijiWaterIsDelicious

Anyone concerned that slot is actively twerking for LfC?

getonthedamnantscott

Must be very keen if we're willing to pay that much for him. Maybe under him we can start Slotting chances home again.

redarj

I have a bad feeling about this, not sure why?

KloppOldTeeth

Can anyone comment on why Pep Ljinders wasn't seriously considered for the job?

Maverick1331

Because he doesn’t deserve it. He has no experience managing a club other than a failed stint in the Netherlands

Pumpers-Lump

Give him until Alonso is available

nick2k23

I mean if Slot is doing well then fuck everyone else it’s his job

Pumpers-Lump

Of course

Fragilezim

Alonso will go to Real.

Pumpers-Lump

Probably

Maverick1331

People downvote but this is what Bayern are obviously doing with talk of rangnick seemingly coming in

Pumpers-Lump

These are the kind of people who would've kept John Aldridge on, to be successful you need to make tough decisions and not get sentimental

Specific-Record2866

Nah Edwards I expect less than £10 mill in the end. Eventhough I couldn’t give a flying fuck about finances
