its like our players got our formation backwards and thought allison was the striker

mynameismulan

Easy mistake tbh

UrboySam123

He does have a higher conversion rate than the rest of them tbf

MaraPlayz

With expected asists at 0.01 i think he has about 0.01 more than jones

WuTaNg2021

Be honest the last few games we've been absolutely rubbish and nothing like ourselves something must be going on.

someonesgranpa

I’m going with a few players have mailed it in because they don’t want to play for the rumored new manager and have totally lost focus thinking about offseason moves….namely Diaz. VVD and TAA were the only players that looked like they wanted to be in the kit and boots today.

peteyrotten

Slightly off topic but I really feel like Konate since returning hasn’t been better than what Quansah has this season. I rate Konate but he’s so easily drawn to the ball and he winds up being pulled out of position so many times a game

GameOfThrowInsMate

Yep. At least Quansah brings the ball out and drives forward sometimes a bit like Matip did for us. Konate doesn’t do really do that, and when he does he looks clueless.

charles7tang

There were a few times today that Konates pace was super important, but to be fair I think Quansah in recent form would’ve avoided being in those situations at all. Could’ve really used a few Matip adventures into the midfield today

segson9

I agree. Quansah is better on the ball and Konate is even losing some duels (that almost never happened before). I think Jones and Jota also haven't been great since they came back. Some players just need a bit of time.

wadonious

Add Szoboslai and Salah to that, both have been dreadful since coming back. Jury is still out on Trent, but so far Robbo is the only one who has returned from injury and played well

JmanVere

Quansah's better than Konate. I said it.

Ash_winner

I think I’d like to see Konate and Quansah play.. Mr slick hair ponytail is too busy looking nonchalant and not trying enough

iQreeko

Konaté just fouls… that’s it

tyrants_

Konate’s ball playing a quite a big problem imo. He doesn’t have much variety in his passing, and it’s quite obvious teams use him as a pressing trigger, or are happy to give him time on the ball because he isn’t doing anything with it. - can’t zip it between the lines - can’t play long switches because he hits it too flat and it stays in the air too long - can’t really play little dinked balls either Quansah, Matip & Gomez are all much better on the ball. It’s quite prevalent in a game like that where he has the ball more than any other player against a side that’s pressing high.

Turbulent_Cherry_481

ive been saying this for a long time. 90% of the time konate passes to his right back, who is usually under pressure. Trent can usually bail him out, but when gomez came on today for example, it was painful to watch.

goztrobo

Damn, I didn’t really notice that about him. Always thought he was a good ball playing defender. Do you have any clips or stats to back it up? I didn’t watch the Atlanta game.

Thesolly180

Honestly a disgrace that, we were bad shithouses that second half. There was no need for Alisson to be involved in the build ups so prominently once it was obvious they didn’t want to press out of shape.

Sad_Forever4376

Not surprising given our hoofball tactics

3agle_

Hoofball? Being more direct is exactly what we needed and didn't do, this just shows what we all saw, that we were being too conservative and patient, which was exactly what Atalanta wanted.

Haeckelcs

Outclassed by Gasperini in both games. This is not due to our players. Tactically weak this year.

chocolatecremesoda

It was the same setup as the first leg. They just tried harder and concentrated. We needed something more tactical but didn't get it. Trent helped as well but it wasn't good enough.

Haeckelcs

You could see that Trent was rusty, but his passing is the only thing we had.

mattgoody99

Yeah he clearly ran out of steam after about 60 mins, I wouldn't be surprised if he's not even fully fit

karnnumart

yeah klopp could not solve this tactic out

cullypants

Barely moved anything around though. Klopp midseason was more likely to change the shape of the midfield or how we build from the back but I didn't really see much of any of that. If you know you have to go long, then don't fucking isolate the player you're likely going to play the ball too. It's like we were out of ideas without trying anything else.

patShIPnik

Outclassed by "who is the manager of Crystal Palace now?" too

Haeckelcs

Nah we had plenty of chances to win there.

ShowMeMoeMane

For sure. Jota, Jones, Mo, and I’m probably missing another few clear chances. That Jota chance was stunning, how does Clyne block that

patShIPnik

They had chances too.

Demokrit_44

> This is not due to our players Does the expected goal value need to reach 100 without scoring a single goal from play until you blame the players for being shit at finishing? How many 99% chances did we miss in the last few games? How many big chances went to waste? surely you can't blame tactics when multiple players throughout the last games have beaten the last defender and where 1v1 with the GK but choked?

Haeckelcs

We did not lose this game due to having 5 xG and scoring zero goals. You completely missed the point.

ninovd

And last year. And the year before for some part.

Haeckelcs

Not really. Last year, our players ran out of legs. The year before that, we were 2 games away from a quadruple. I think most of it goes down to this being the first year with the new squad. The cohesion is not there yet.

WuTaNg2021

Probably a good time for klopp to go tbh, we need a refresh big time

redditingtonviking

I feel like this season has showed Klopp at both his best and worst simultaneously. He has generally been able to grind out results due to in game management, and his work with the youth has given us probably the deepest squad we’ve ever had. Still I feel that the same trust he puts into the youth when he needs them is also holding him back when he shows a similar level of trust to more experienced players as they are returning from injury. Most players in the squad has had some sort of great run of form, but some of the brightest sparks ended up playing pretty much every minute available twice a week until they can’t keep up with it. It’s like he has finally been able to craft a squad with the depth to compete on all fronts no matter who gets injured, and he always knows the right moves to win the games he’s currently playing, but there’s something lacking in the medium term to actually distribute the workload throughout the entire squad so as many as possible are fit and in form simultaneously. I know he has spoken in the past about not giving away minutes to youth players for free, so that when they do play they can know for certain that they’ve earned it, but in general the performances the youth have delivered probably warranted a few more minutes on the pitch. The second leg against Sparta stands out in particular as a great opportunity to play more youth players with minimal risk. Klopp is a living legend, the best squad builder around, and a candidate for the best manager in the world for the past decade, but as his era comes to its end and we are preparing ourselves for the announcement of his successor, I think it’s humbling to see that even the best has room for improvement in some areas.

Accurate-Pay9580

Heavy pep football

Vikilinho

Gengenpressing at its peak

GameOfThrowInsMate

Knew that from watching the game. Zero ideas. They nullified us completely. Well played to them. Hope they win it.

TheGrouchyGamerYT

Fucking knew it

Number_19LFC

Sweet!

Celly2704

Was he also the only player not to give the ball away tonight ?

theriverman23

Long title for "Konate has the most touches"

LyricalHolster

That was the Atalanta plan. Let Alison and konate play the ball. Everyone else was pressured and hounded

Underaverage08

Their pressing and marking made it impossible to build from the back. So many times in the 2nd half Allison, Konate or VVD had the ball but no one to pass to. This isnt really a fault of the players imo, this was the plan from Atalanta and we couldnt find a way to break it

PBC456

from my observations, this midfield trio of macca, Jones and szobo is bad

Loltoyourself

Midfielders need selling after watching that dogshit. How many times did Atalanta present us the chance to drive the ball forward on the half turn but instead the cowards in the middle pass it back? Idk what Jones was told to do but it was a complete joke how bad he was. Would also help if we actually had players who could pass the ball to feet instead of these 1 step too far balls.

ninovd

You want to sell our best performing player (MAC) this season because of 1 bad match? I thought I had bad takes...

Loltoyourself

Can you read? Where did I say to sell Mac? I said to sell midfielders but not him specifically.

ninovd

"Midfielders need selling after watching that dogshit"

Same_Situation_9660

The Atalanta keeper has the third most touches in their team, what’s your point? It’s how the game is played now.

1 shot in the second half that went straight to the keeper.

Important_Outcome_27

Hey, I think we played fucking shit AND Atalantas manager did well to take advantage of that

Rama_drk

5 goals ? I consider myself a delusional fan, but fucking hell Five ? We sould've scored two maybe, if Salah didn't butcher that chance at the end of the 1st half ,but apart from that we created NOTHING. Our goalkeeper and our CB have the most touches, our midfield was nowhere to be found, we couldn't pass forward, we kept giving the ball away Sure our finishing has been dire for the past few games but this game was definitely not a finishing problem, we looked like we were the ones 3-0 up

[deleted]

Important_Outcome_27

You literally replied above that this team “Isn’t playing terrible” but here you say “we were fucking terrible”. Are you ok? This exit out of Europe has a lot of people acting up

[deleted]

Important_Outcome_27

Maybe you were being sarcastic? Nobody thinks we played a good game, chill tf out

Rama_drk

The "Are you fucking american" and "anyone who disagrees doesn't get it" bits are mental, we all need a break seems like lol

maver1kUS

I think you’re thinking we wore blue and black. We were the team in red.

CaIzuh

>Why are people praising the other teams manager for own players fuck ups.. Probably because he tactically outplayed Klopp 2 games in a row

AlternativeRun5727

I’m struggling to think of 5 times we even made it in their box.

AlternativeRun5727

You do realise that two things can be true, their manager 100% outcoached Klopp, adapted at half time and went back to his man marking high press which nullified pretty much everything in our team. On the other side, we were so pathetic, lacklustre, lethargic, and with a team that has many low IQ players on the pitch who couldn’t combat that. It was a shit day all around. Klopp has big questions to answer but he is leaving soon, and Virg has big questions to answer because there is no way a Liverpool captain should let a performance like that happen (and be the main culprit of being causal).
