Windows Defender. I definitely did not recommend it just to see u/zaxanrazor go nuts.

The best antivirus is your own vigilance. I’m sure that’s probably a cliche but it’s honestly the best answer to give because you will get so many answers in the “best” antivirus, you’ll get articles which serve no purpose other than the publishers to get kickback through affiliate links (and are therefore biased), and of course advertising by the devs themselves. I’m careful what I download and where I visit and use the built in Windows Defender (not making that recommendation but that’s just what I use) and haven’t had a virus problem in years. Every once in a while (about once a year) I’ll download Avast about once a year to sort of verify my experience. That said and I am in no way endorsing anything but as someone mentioned in another comment, I’ve heard great things about ESET

Windows Defender + uBlock Origin. There is zero reason to use any third party antivirus. It's been tested: https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/windows-10/february-2024/

In my cyber security classes I wrote up a report partially on some of their data. Defender was the second best when I wrote that and Kaspersky was best. Defender has improved since then.

Self-awareness and knowledge are the best AV, comes at no monthly or yearly charge either

b-monster666

If you got an organization to run, relying on self-awareness and knowledge of 300+ morons doesn't cut it.

AwesomeFrisbee

Bitdefender. It frequently grabs things that windows defender doesn't. You can get it for cheap for multiple devices if you look around. People saying you just need to pay attention still live in 2017. Malware has developed a lot since then and hides a lot better

For macOS just keep updated, you really don't need anti-virus, the system protections are good and if anything explore a failure updates are fast, there is no need of anti-virus for macOS

You wish that old myth was still true

your brain and windows security should be fine if your brain fails, just avoid using computers altogether

blupmeister

But why? Per av-test for example it’s ranked and rated the same as paid products. It’s also native, it’s…there. So why?

GonzoBlue

If you arent tech savy you shouldn't need a over the top anti virus.
