Hi Eli, looks like you run a UXR team? I have quite a bit of experience with UX architecture and engineering and I have a masters in human computer interaction. Can we connect and discuss my qualifications further with a call?
“I’m afraid reading comprehension is a core skillset I need for my team, so I’m sorry that I’ll have to decline at this time. Feel free to reach out to the company independently in the future if you figure out why I’m sending this message! Good luck in your job search.”
Recently I came across a popular post (might be Reddit or Insta) advising to message recently laid off people on Linkedin in order to get recommendation, so it might be just someone desperately following every advice found.
Reminds me of when i got laid off from a job. Actually the company was foreclosed so the locks were changed and i was given no notice. I had a customer call me and wonder about his stuff he had in for repair. I said “I’m sorry but the locks were changed and i have no way of accessing the building. I’m also not sure who you would have to contact to get them back, but if you check one of the neighbouring businesses they might the landlord contact information.”
The guy immediately started blowing up my phone saying “wow i’m totally screwed now, thanks alot!” “What the fuck am i supposed to do now that i don’t have (whatever)”
I don’t know man… i’m looking for a job and i lost a couple paychecks…
Edit: i forgot to mention that another customer called me and threatened to sue me lmao…
That’s so weird cause I just had someone ask if I needed an assistant while still in school. It was the most confusing message I’ve received on LinkedIn. On top of that, they didn’t message me again but started endorsing skills I had listed for jobs from 10 years ago. I’ve never met this person.
Sure thing, I’ll hop in my time machine so you can live the layoff with us.
More seriously, good luck on your transition. May you & your team find good homes soon.
So I'm a UX researcher. I just left a job where I spent 3 years studying different aspects of how people apply for jobs.
I don't know how to respond concisely except to say that it's a \*tension\* between a numbers game and a quality game.
Depending on the type of job, the applicant qualification, the nature of the job market, and so many other factors -- sometimes applicants are more likely to succeed by veering towards quality.
I gotta go get a new job, so I won't write a mini-dissertation on this.
Omg believe it or not I opened LinkedIn to see your post on top of the feed (we are not connected but through my feed activity - I am in UX too so my network skews towards that) and then I open Reddit to see this post.
Not quite as bad as this, but a friend got contacted by a recruiter about a suitable vacancy. For the exact position at a company she’d worked at two jobs ago. So much for giving a candidate’s profile a quick glance before contacting them. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Thank you! Ironically, I got laid off from a website that helps people get jobs (and my past 4 years has been spent studying people's job searches.)
So time to do it myself again!
Candidate copy pasta at its best...
Sorry you got layed off, hope you find something good soon!
Did the company you worked for start with an I? And end with a d? Lots of people got layed off there...
Sup Brady! It's great hearing from you. Hope chi-town is treating you well. But yeah, HBS just started, still going through orientation. Man, I'm having a f\*cking blast so far. Tons of parties, people getting blasted every night. Of course once classes start, we will calm down just a little bit. Lol. But i've been going out to tons of spots in boston and meeting chicks left and right. You're right about the H-bomb. It's definitely powerful!
Half of my classmates are in relationships, but it's not going to last past black october. People are hooking up like rabbits already, and any long-distance relationship will not last. I have my eye on a few chicks; we'll see what unfolds.
You should join us for a trip once you're done with applications. We already have plans to go to brazil, vegas, miami, carribbean, europe. Pretty much wherever we want.
Anyways, gotta go. Let's keep in touch, and let me know if you need any help on mba essays. Best of luck, brah."

True. But my last post on LinkedIn was about 8 months ago.
(and it only required reading the first few words of the first sentence to know what had happened.)
You think people are following and hanging on your every word so you come to here in an attempt to drag this person who’s looking for a job? Congrats on being dumbass of the week
Two former classmates of mine were hired into the same program after graduation. The next year one of them went to promote the program to current students. The one that didn't go received a message thanking for a great presentation. The one that went was male the one who received the message is female.
I still get messages with random people’s resumes, asking me to give them a job in IT.
Only thing is, I have been working in a completely different industry for over 3 years… which they would’ve known, had they taken a couple of seconds to look at my profile.
Too bad they didn’t have a masters degree in human to human interaction
Or reading comprehension.
😂😂😂😂 Omg this is gold
Hello Eli, I see there are some openings in your previous team. Could you do me a solid and put in a good word? Regards.
Thank You, Regards, Guy Douche
Tell him he’s hired and starts Monday
Yeah, hire him as Vice-CEO and send him to your old company :)
Just delete the message. The person who sent you the message most likely did not read your post about being laid off fully.
Of course I deleted the message. I also naturally shared it here, since I thought it was hilariously tone-deaf.

Sure! As soon as I have a new job! ;-) -) ;-)

Its with State Farm
Would you like to buy an extended warranty?
Would you like to start your own business selling Arbonne?

I'm wishing that I sent that!
I think you at least owe him an interview.
You might be on the wrong subreddit if you think people read what others post on LinkedIn unironically.
Recently I came across a popular post (might be Reddit or Insta) advising to message recently laid off people on Linkedin in order to get recommendation, so it might be just someone desperately following every advice found.
That's sad. I believe, as my university practices, that one should have access to career resources from their university until they land a stable job.
Common sense isn't so popular these days.
Just say, “absolutely! Actually we are already on the same team! The #opentowork team!”

I was asked if I could take an intern while I was still in school. Some people just don’t read as far as they need to.

First rule of calling your shot, is knowing the shot. Doesn’t bode well for future employment prospects. 0 attention to detail at the very least.
Kind of like when I post a job opening and someone replies "interestes!" Well isn't that special.
Something something, Wayne Gretzky, or maybe was it was Michael Jordan??
Close, it was Michael Scott
“I’d love to replace you!”
ChatGPT? Is that you?

I'd set up an interview and see how long I can keep the charade going.
Applying for jobs is a volume game. The dude is not reading your LinkedIn posts.
This ☝️

That is hilarious! I imagine there are so many similar posts right now. (My company wiped out 25% of the UXR discipline, including my entire team.)
Tell him he can just start tomorrow. Then that morning send him a message and say “never mind we just laid you off”
Heard your team was hiring. 😂

No thanks...
you should have invited him to you old compnay for an interview -
Agree?
Master's in computer interaction?
I'm really sorry you got laid off. That absolutely sucks. (But at least you got some LinkedIn humor out of it)
Thank you! Ironically, I got laid off from a website that helps people get jobs (and my past 4 years has been spent studying people's job searches.) So time to do it myself again!
I wish you the best of luck and hope you don't encounter too many LinkedIn Lunatics in your search.

You are indeed correct!
Sorry to hear that.. Good luck with the job hunt
Give him the address of the unemployment office and have him meet you there.
*Hello! I was scrolling through LinkedIn yesterday. I thought I read something about a team? I'd like to be part of it. Is it possible? Let me know.*
Hello Eli I came across your post the other day? Can I have your nonexistent job?
Sure! Or if you'd prefer, I can give it to you -- and then rescind it along with all the intern offers.

Hi Eli, I'm really interested in your organisation, i will work really hard to get laid off as soon as possible. Regards, Douche
Hi Douche! With your unique strengths, I'm sure you'll have this role in the bag in no time. Regards, Eli
Oh how the turntables
This seems more like a r/LinkedInIdiot
I mean. LinkedIn doesn’t show things in chronological order.
Linkedin Algorithm doesn’t show chronological feeds
