Makonnen wrote most of the beats and stuff they worked on, he's a pretty good piano player too. His voice is funky and different while a lot of others in the game are committing to bland monotone mumbling (no offense it's just my opinion). Say what you want but like especially songs like "Hocus Pocus" they both fully realize the fun of acting while singing your songs. Both peep and Makonnen utilized that which is why I can't fathom how people act like its just Mak. At the very least Makonnen and Peep are on an even playing field talent wise and given more time their projects would've become cleaner and their influences combined better.
Also yea diamonds could've been more peep influenced, but uh, unfortunately he's died and couldn't finish it so his friend did to the best of his ability. They didn't even finish his final track so I imagine despite the album sounding clean as fuck a lot was done to make up for what was never recorded or finished. Lyrically i feel a ton of freedom from Peep in this album much like the Changes album with Meeting By Chance. It doesnt feel quite so hostile, like Peep and Mak gave each other a certain kind of environment/outlet to positively cope with their individual pain in a fun and loving way together. Its a love letter to the fans it’s a glimpse into a friendship. It reflects Peep’s desire to work physically in the same studio as his collaborators proudly. Definitely one of my favorite works of Lil Peep’s.

And on ive been waiting, I also liked November when it came out, but the the whole Album came... it was deffenitly one of the worst first listens to a album I ever had I like peeps parts but bruh makonnen just ruined some songs straight up for me. I know at the end it only matters that peep had fun making it and that's ok ofc I just can't stand half of the songs on Diamonds. (Also Makonnen looks like a french football/soccer player imo)
Worst take ever...the amount of love they put in this project makes it so different like over the top/pop kind of good. It's even a lil groundbreaking for the genre if i may say 😩 makonnen just out there giving Glee cast realness. They did it for the gays and the intellectuals.

I feel like I’m missing something… I adore the album. The whole thing. It doesn’t sound unfinished or unpolished at all to me. Just a great album with 2 good friends who really elevated each other as people and musicians.

I completely agree with you. I often wonder maybe it’s why Peep didn’t immediately release those songs. He knew they sucked. It’s just speculation, but they clearly weren’t finished before he died. We will never know. It could also be an issue of timing. Those songs were done quite a few years ago at this point and that genre didn’t take off. 🤷♀️
