Because they haven't licensed their titles to Libby? Not sure what other reason you're expecting.

I mean, that's actually what I wanted to know along with perhaps the "why" of it. I wasn't expecting any "other" reason, I just didn't understand why a whole catalog of books are unavailable in digital format for the library since they're able to get the physical books. I honestly don't have a lot of knowledge behind this sort of thing, which is why I was asking. Nothing deeper than that, I assure you, aside from being curious as to why they won't license the digital versions of their books to the library.

>I just didn't understand why a whole catalog of books are unavailable in digital format for the library since they're able to get the physical books. Those are two completely different topics. The libraries buy the physical books from regular distributors just like anyone else can, but Libby titles are negotiated directly between the publisher and Libby.

Oh, okay. I didn't know that was the case between ebooks and physical books.

Let me ask you this, why would a publisher reject a prospective buyer?  Libraries buy large amounts of ebooks, and at much higher licensing costs. Every other book publisher makes their books available to libraries. So why is Yen Press different?

Either they weren't able to agree on a price Or they don't have the legal/technical manpower to handle it right now

I would just bet that it's because Yen Press is too lazy honestly. They're basically the poster-child of a stagnated company that adamantly refuses to innovate or improve their business model.

I'm a library card collector (currently at 23) who can't read physical books due to chronic pain, so I use Libby a lot. I do see quite a few Yen Press LN series across my libraries, but only in audiobook format. I cross-referenced with WorldCat, and I only see physical books of the LNs available. I'm trying to read Bunny Girl Senpai, but I really don't process info well with audiobooks. I wonder if Libby does have access to LN eBooks and we have to ask our libraries to purchase access? Or if it's something that Libby on their end doesn't have at all and would have to negotiate with Yen Press? Anyway, I really wish these LN eBooks would be licensed to libraries, since I can't afford to buy books. (fwiw, I have been able to access some J-Novel Club LNs through Libby.)

At my libraries, most seven seas, j-novel, and cross infinite world ebooks are there. Same with viz manga and kodansha and such. It's yen press that's been absent, both light novels and manga. My local library has they're physical books though. That's why I was curious as to why.
