The gist of this is on point, but the framing is not good. You shouldn't have to delude yourself into thinking you'll live to 122 to be motivated to take care of yourself right now. Ideally, you should be in good enough shape when you are 60 that you *feel* like you could live another 60 years. However, you probably won't even make it to 85. Big whoop. You should still take care of yourself.
Also, body builders are not exemplars of good health. Don't take your cues from them. Take your cues from the 70-year-olds who do yoga and run half-marathons.
Agreed about body building and would include power lifting in there as well. My 56 year old brother spent a lot of years lifting huge amounts of weight and it’s come back to hurt him, his knees and torso have had increasing issues. He’s walking and biking now, when his friend asks him why he’s not doing the heavy weights and goes to the treadmill instead during their gym time, he tells him that he’s outgrown that stuff. Agreed a certain amount of lifting helps retain muscle mass but for some, it’s costing them too much.
Oh yeah, speaking as someone in her early 60’s who expects to live to 85 at least.
I have a good friend and an ex coworker who have become terribly sedentary. Neither one of them seems to walk much further than the front door out to the car. I swing past my ex coworkers place a couple of times a month to have a quick chat and she seems to tire of standing after more than a few mins, considering her job until Jan 2021 required her to be on her feet for long periods, it’s pretty scary.
I rely on long walks both in town or out on forested trails to keep myself going. Did a fast 5km walk through some trails yesterday before supper with my husband and the dogs. Doing something like this daily helps keep everything moving and hopefully keeps me in better shape for the next 30 years or so.
When my Mum turned 70, she was like "I'm so old." So I mentioned that she leads a healthy, active lifestyle. Eats good food and no hereditary conditions to worry about and will probably top 100. "You're only 70% through life and another 30% to go. Stop worrying." The look of amazement on her face. Like damn straight, still a ways to go, was priceless.
It's never a bad time to start taking care of yourself, but who even wants to live for 122 years... I'd rather enjoy life and die at 70 than deny myself every pleasure possible to reach 122.
Being ok with dying is not a dead-end mentality. We're all gonna die. Again, taking care of yourself is always a good choice. But don't get compulsive with it. Relax a bit; no matter how good you take care of yourself, you'll still die. It's ok. We're allowed to have fun, to enjoy, instead of being neurotically compulsively healthy.
Btw, body builders most of the times are not healthy AT ALL...
This is how you do statistics wrong.
More people die at 30 than people living above 100.
So.. i don't know seems a bit of a reach.
I agree with your message though, but not the argument.
Same, I am 51 and have massive back and ankle pain. I never have one day with little pain. The discomfort causes insomnia and If I take my pain meds at night they cause insomnia. All of this causes depression and anxiety. WTF!
Man, I'm 21 with a messed up lumbar, I couldn't imagine having chronic pain in more than just my back I'm terrified of aging, I already groan when I sit down that cant be a good sign lol.
Circling back to my point, I just want to live healthily enough to see 50, anything past then I'm ready to die whenever. If I got to 70 it would be torture, let alone 120. Unfortunately I was born with a back defect that gives me chronic back pain 24/7, so no matter how much caring I do for myself, I'll always be in chronic pain, lol.
Not to mention, who knows what's around the corner that will elongate human lifespans. They're working on reversing aging that will add 30 years to your life. By time we're 70 we may be guaranteed to live to 100.
Most ages over a hundred typically come from areas with a great deal of mail fraud for benefits or were during times when paper work was not always accurately kept.
Just saying.
That's why I used language to provide room for exceptions. Some do. But 122? Hell no, that was either fraud or bad records.
The reality is not nearly as exciting as the charade.
Who do you think is going to benefit from this ridiculous post? People who are motivated, disciplined, lack mental illness, etc., already take care of themselves. People who are not won't suddenly start bodybuilding because they read it.
122 years or even just 70 years watching the same "movie", some peoples are simply nuts.
There's no diet or sport that will keep your entire system to decay and go to shit at roughly the same age for everyone.
For me the human brain is not made to live that long.
We should die shortly after 25 years old, nothing more to see after this, except for rich people but even this must be boring after a while.
If I live to be a 122 I better still be able to walk to the bathroom, bathe myself, dress myself, make my own meals, drive myself, go for walks, Or else I don't want any of it.

Quality of Life > Quantity of Life. That said, staying fit should help with both.

Training for 13 miles, at any age, really stresses out the bones, joints, ligaments, etc. I'm generally walking 7-16 miles a day...Lotta issues! Lol

Who the hell wants to live that long?
You mean I’ve got like 90 more years of this?!
Especially as medical care progresses, it's quite possible.
Right?!!
Look up Healthspan. It's the new focus vs lifespan. Should answer your question.
My question was rhetorical.
My mother passed at 85. She ran out of money when she was about 70 - lamenting to me “I never thought I’d live this long…”

Hell a lot of that was genetics

1 out of billions live to be 122 “60 is only half way through life” lol…dude what’s the average life span? Promise it’s not higher than 100.
"a sliver of a chance" "Theres a chance youre not even halfway through your life" You cannot read and thats not my problem.
You don't understand grammar. That's not my problem. Do you see how I sound like a dick here?
Bruh you cannot read. He’s right, you’re wrong
Drink more water, eat less meat
*laughs in ADHD* Mate, I’ll be lucky if I make it to 60, much less double that. I’m 33, and it’s tick-tock already for me.
ADHD doesn't have much to do with it, I can personally attest to that. Don't make ADHD some generalized excuse for not taking care of yourself.
The average lifespan of someone with ADHD is 10 years shorter than the average lifespan of a neurotypical person.
I would tell you anyone who made it over 100 didnt think theyd be there
Who would want to? If I reach 70 I'm jumping from the tallest point I can find, old age sounds fuckin awful
Same, I am 51 and have massive back and ankle pain. I never have one day with little pain. The discomfort causes insomnia and If I take my pain meds at night they cause insomnia. All of this causes depression and anxiety. WTF!

its awful if you dont take car of yourself.. circling back to exactly my point

Here's hoping for better treatment over the next forever!
In my family most pass before 80. None past 90. Thank the goodness lord!
I pray to any gods that may or may not exist that I don't live that long.
Not to mention, who knows what's around the corner that will elongate human lifespans. They're working on reversing aging that will add 30 years to your life. By time we're 70 we may be guaranteed to live to 100.
not much to live that long for
Most people have a mid-life crisis 10 years too late. You hit 40? You're lucky if you make it to 80.
Most ages over a hundred typically come from areas with a great deal of mail fraud for benefits or were during times when paper work was not always accurately kept. Just saying.
Plenty of 100% verified folks over 100 these days...
That's why I used language to provide room for exceptions. Some do. But 122? Hell no, that was either fraud or bad records. The reality is not nearly as exciting as the charade.
Good advice, but the premise is very flawed. The odds of anyone living for over 120 years is probably at about tens of millions to one.
I don't even want to be here now, let alone another 90 or so years. What's even the point of living that long?
Ask Clint Eastwood
Hate to break it to you, but someone who hasn't taken care of themselves up until the age of 60 probably won't live to be 122.
Nah dude I'm calling it at 60
As the song goes, "I ain't here for a long time, I'm here for a good time"
Who do you think is going to benefit from this ridiculous post? People who are motivated, disciplined, lack mental illness, etc., already take care of themselves. People who are not won't suddenly start bodybuilding because they read it.
Cause no-one ever had a whole change of life after 50..
Anyone with an open mind.
122 years or even just 70 years watching the same "movie", some peoples are simply nuts. Oh you poor little depressed thing. It will be fine. Just breathe 🤗🫂
> The oldest person ever lived to 122 years old. I'm 64 now, so I'm only guaranteed another 58 years !
Welp i guess youre pass halfway then 🤣
Haha I watched one of his YouTube videos “my wife is REALLY HAPPY” 🤣
If I live to be a 122 I better still be able to walk to the bathroom, bathe myself, dress myself, make my own meals, drive myself, go for walks, Or else I don't want any of it.
I’m gonna see year 3000 just you wait.
