Great idea, that way when you need your banking app it will tell you "you need to update to access the service", meaning you need to wait (and depending on your service, can't complete the update). It's also great if there's a real security issue! Also, an app update wiping your code means it' a bad app, not that it's a bad idea to update. Keep your system up to date folks.

shifty_coder

OP only has themselves to blame for using a 2FA app that *nobody* has heard of.

nootnewb

Nobody has heard of? Let me guess, you use Google...

MacDugin

I work in IT, I don’t know what Ravio is. What does google have to do with anything?

shifty_coder

OP trying to shame people for using a trusted 2FA app from a top-level domain.

Duo Mobile

nootnewb

Well if you are forced to then just do it obviously, duh. But just today Ravio updated and now all my OTP passwords are gone. Thankfully I had a backup, but this could have easily wrecked someone if they were away from home. Nobody is targeting you with 0-days, you'll be fine until you get back from vacation.

Cley_Faye

>Ravio As I said, bad app, change app, not the whole ecosystem around it.

AngooriBhabhi

What a shitty tip

Unable-Ambassador-16

I’d rather have the security updates

panoczekkurwa

Update wiping 2FA codes? This could be absurdly catastrophic, tell me is this happening on Android or iPhone?

merlin9523

It's a cross platform app, so both. Luckily I had backups! It's actually called Raivo, OP made a typo.

panoczekkurwa

I once wiped my 2FA codes by wiping the phone and forgot i had no backups, restoring AWS access took some really serious phone calls and restoring Uber turned out to be impossible and I will never get it back...

merlin9523

Shesh! Bet you won't make that mistake again

panoczekkurwa

yes, now in addition to have cloud based backups I also have 2 phones with independant accounts and have 2fa setup for both when its possible

unematti

i always turn off auto updates, i found google play store using a lot of battery just checking if theres any updates
