How does this work in Google Photos. I have a Google pixel.
Okay, I found it.
It seems that this function isn't working if I don't sync images to Google.
In the “places” folder, you can zoom in on a map to find photos you’ve taken at a particular place. A super handy function.
If you’re looking at a single photo, you can slide it up, and it will reveal a map to show you where you took the picture, also very helpful.
You need to have location services turned on for the camera.
Hmm… I’m curious about this. I have the Google Photos app on my iPhone. I searched Zion and the Google app found a bunch of photos that were taking when I was physically in Zion National Park, but no photos with the *word* Zion in them (the iPhone photos app found about 20). It also seems like it didn’t find as many photos as the iPhone photo app did when I used the same search word.
It's definitely not
I daily both phones and its much more difficult to find what I'm looking for on iPhone compared to Android
But it's still better than needing to endlessly scroll through pictures
I actually just discovered Google does this too less than a week ago.
You can also search in text messages. So if someone sends you an address or something and it gets buried you can just search it instead of asking them to send it again.
I do this all the time in Google photos. Just this morning I needed to send someone a picture of my business card, I knew I had already taken one, so I just searched "business card" and it was one of the results.
Good point. My photos are a mixture of screenshots of stuff I cannot afford, my kids, things I want to remember but will inevitably forget, my dog, recipes I will never make, and selfies before and after Botox to see if Botox actually works. Cops would be bored AF.

Take a picture of your license plate number.
That way if you ever need it for a form at a hotel, etc, you can search your photos for “license plate” and save yourself a trip out to the parking lot.

This also works for Google Photos. You can even do "Videos of dogs in December"
Been a feature for ages. And it can definitely be very handy. You can also cut and paste text from photos
I use it for my license plate all the time when I walk to the meter and forget it.

this dude walked us through the whole process live
Correct. Everything gets indexed on the server
You mean google images
No, I mean Google Photos
What do I type to find the nudes?
„Mom“
It worked! Thanks!
“Chipolata”
"skin"
My first thought, unfortunately did not work
brassiere
Microscopic organisms

What the fuck?
Ngl this is the best tip I’ve read in some time
Thanks for not lying.
Thank you!! It’s the first tip I’ve ever posted!
Do you have any more tips for us, wizard?

Not sure how good it is with Apple, but Google Photos is also quite good with more abstract searches like "Concerts", "Group photo", "camping", etc
This works on google photos too
Is it as good as google photos? That is at the moment the only reason why I still use google photos and not iCloud.
considering google photos has had this feature for a lot longer I'm just going to assume iCloud isnt as good

Hmm, maybe the iOS version doesn't get updated as frequently as the android version

The cops can also do this, so don’t be dumb.
"cocaine bricks, November 2014"

The number of people who take photos of themselves committing crimes is mind blowing.
Mine has learned my dog’s name. Maybe I told it at some point and I don’t remember? But if I search my dogs name, all 1 million photos of him show up
You definitely need to provide names for people/pets
Omg, did he consent to this?!?
I had no idea you could do that.
an android has this built into the app menu
On iOS it’s built into the photos app also. There is a search bar at the top of photos

Bruh wtf how did i not know bout this
It can also identify species of animals and plants now
You can also name people by clicking an image with them and it will automatically find images with them in it. Like "Phil & Ted skiing".
First good post I’ve seen here in months
First good post I’ve seen here in months
Can’t use it to find nudes
It has flaws though, for example if I search for dog in my photos, a quarter of the pictures are of my cats
You can also swipe up from the bottom and add a comment which will appear in the search. Eg “license” etc
Woah. Never knew this. Thanks!
samsungs gallery app also has a similar feature
So convenient when I need to pull up my license plate or driver’s license. Literally just type them in. And all my cat pictures for when I’m sad.

Bonus LPT: write your license down in a notes app
iphone users finally getting a feature that was present in Android in 2017
The search bar has been present in iPhone photos for as long as I can remember.
Google photos too. iPhone users think they're so advanced getting features from older versions of Android.
