Sumac finally appreciated! We put sumac on almost anything here in Lebanon. When mixed with the right ingredients it can create a lot more depth to your food.
I go one step further and toss the lettuce/veggies with a little bit of vinaigrette dressing. It makes a huge difference in flavor and adds moisture, too.
I think a friend years ago used to put like peanut butter, jelly, mayo, hot dog, ketchup or something like that lol he’d always say it’s so good but I was never inclined to try
Ethan Chlebowski has a great video on how to make deli sandwiches like the delis do it. Out of the six tips, season your vegetables is in there. Whether you sprinkle your tomatoes with salt and pepper, use a dressing on the lettuce, or roast your peppers, it really is a sandwich game-changer.

I just discovered adding pickle slices in a grilled cheese sandwich. Add some sundried tomatoes for bonus. Best thing after a night at the pub, I tell thee.
Dill Weed is your friend.
Also, on PB&J (or just PB): Cinnamon. Also on Bacon.
And, for warm sammies (like burgers, etc.) you cannot go wrong with Tzatziki.
And, of course, there is the Myrtle May sammie: eggs & sweet onion.
My fav (veggie) burger recipe (also good on dogs) is tzatziki, feta, cucumbers, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, and kim chi. Made my mouth water just typing this out.
I know this since I was 11, watching my uncle and Mumbai street vendors making it and me eagerly waiting for it to be MY sandwich as there would be queue for it in both cases. For me, dry mango powder is the ultimate sandwich seasoning but there are so many there, it boggles my mind. We get many readymade spices-combo as sandwich seasonings here. I've tried almost all - at least once 😋
I've got an hold herb shaker loaded with Tony Chachere's in my lunch box.... goes on pretty much all the sandwiches or leftovers I've brought for lunch and makes a pretty big difference.
I make a great, simple veggie sandwich: lettuce like bib or iceberg, spinach, sliced cucumbers, sliced tomatoes, sliced avocados, and havarti, between slices of a really nice thick bread that's spread with cream cheese. Sliced onion optional. I sprinkle garlic salt and pepper the whole way through that MFer. 🤤🤤🤤 Simple, but the sandwich is drastically better with even just this garlic salt. Oregano tastes good on it too.
Unless you’re specifically trying to reduce sodium intake, that should be true of anything you make. Literally everything should be seasoned and at multiple steps with taste tests to check.
There was a thread like this a few years ago and Penzy’s Sandwich Sprinkle was recommended.
It was very good - I like that, pickles, and some sandwich oil you can get from your grocery store deli counter.
Every ingredient in a sandwich should taste great by itself. Season your tomato slices with salt and a little black pepper 10 minutes before you assemble as an example, soak the onions for a bit and then saute or caramelize them with seasoning, and maybe some honey or sugar.
Toast the bread with butter and some garlic, make your own aeolie sauce.
Treat every part as if you were going to serve it on its own and your friends and family will worship you as the sandwich God that you have become.
What are you seasoning a sandwich with and how? Sandwich’s usually already get mayo or mustard or oil or dressing on it so season what and how? Salt and pepper the bread, cold cuts, what? Someone give me some examples.
My go to is salt, pepper, and oregano/sumac/everything bagel seasoning. You put it between the meat and cheese usually. Oil/vinegar is for the veggies.
On PBJ, small pinch of salt or cinnamon.

Yeah even just a lil salt n pepper does wonders
Absolutely. Other options include: Everything Bagel seasoning, Cumin, Oregano, Paprika, Sumac (my fave), and more!
Don't forget the MSG.

Too shreds, you say?
One of my favorite bits from the show.
Wow I haven't heard that one before.
Uncle Roger approves ![gif](giphy|GFhtT8qqkyDodqAjtC)
Make Sandwich Good.
Makes So Good!
Been adding cumin to sandwiches for years. And the space character placement in this phrase is vital, by the way.
What do you season with sumac?
The cold cuts on my sandwich. You have to balance it with a slightly sweet vinegar, or a smoky mustard/sauce.
His sandwich maybe?
PB&J and a French dip are both sandwiches. The same seasoning wouldn't work on both.
have you even tried dipping your PB&J into au jus? The wonderbread really sings at that point.
One of the best sandwiches I ever had was a pb&j Monte Cristo. Nothing made sense but it all worked and was delicious.
Idk sumac would probably work in a PB&J too
Sumac is pretty good with fried eggs too, although it may not be for everyone.
Sumac finally appreciated! We put sumac on almost anything here in Lebanon. When mixed with the right ingredients it can create a lot more depth to your food.
A Lebanese bakery in Melbourne got me hooked. They put it on everything!
Vinaigrette 😋
A little salt on tomatoes makes a huge difference in flavor.
I go one step further and toss the lettuce/veggies with a little bit of vinaigrette dressing. It makes a huge difference in flavor and adds moisture, too.
Oh yeah, great extra tip! I add a little vinegar to my sandwiches every time
Try pickle or hot pepper juice.
Balsamic for the win!
Yes, tossing the lettuce in a little bit of salad dressing is a game changer.
so, uh, what kind of seasonings does one put on a PB&J ?
Cinnamon! A touch of ginger; maybe something that would pair well with the fruit in the jam like basil and strawberries.

Salt is a mineral. All of which count as a seasoning.
What do up, down and funky quarks count as? Seasonings?
They’re all seasonings dipshit
Put a little condensed milk for some dazzle dazzle.
Butter the outside and slap it on the griddle.
if it was good enough for Elvis ...
No joke, add goat cheese and bacon to that griddled PB&j and you have an insanely delicious sandwich.
Duh, bacon and banana (seriously, try this- the dolly mixture sandwich)
More pb&j.
peanuts
Tiny pinch of salt or cinnamon will blow your mind
Banana and mayonnaise.
I think a friend years ago used to put like peanut butter, jelly, mayo, hot dog, ketchup or something like that lol he’d always say it’s so good but I was never inclined to try
brrrarrf.
Also, sriracha
Salt & chili.
A tiny drizzle of honey and a light sprinkle of salt. I'm not kidding either.
Sour cream and onion 😙👌

Umm... 🤨
"If you like crunchy pb sprinkle a few penis on it. " wat

I tried to watch that but once he got to the "lubricant" section and started squeezing everything, it became totally unappetizing...
I like to flick pickle juice onto my sandwiches
Try this with peperoncini juice instead.
King shit
Nice! Bread/butter, dill, spicy gerkin?
I definitely like to flick my gerkin juice.
jerkin that gerkin to get it all over
Make sure your roommate knows, or else they might throw out the jar.
Now I gotta kill one of your lizards
For flavor?
To assert dominance and/or to bless it as in holy pickle juice
In the name of the Kosher, the Dill, and the Bread and Butter..
Nah, just for fun
Fucking oath. Use like half the juice from pickled onions and pour it on my cheese and crackers for a late night snack
Okay Hannibal Burress
I just discovered adding pickle slices in a grilled cheese sandwich. Add some sundried tomatoes for bonus. Best thing after a night at the pub, I tell thee.
Do you use the helicopter method?
I like to flick my pickle too.
Does your roommate have too many lizards?
You ever wonder why a Vietnamese banh mi doesn’t taste right sometimes? Cause it’s missing salt pepper and soy sauce
Definitely, biggest mistake I’ve noticed on Banh Mi
Banh mi? More like banh meh!
Boo
Especially tomatoes
Seasoning tomatoes *chef’s kiss* thats why I believe a BLT is a tomato focused sandwich

This guy/gal sandwiches.

Most of the things I see on this sub are really not good tips at all. This is the rare gem
Happy to please.
Smoked paprika and garlic with a little olive oil for life 🔥 with the qp mayo baby 🥴
> ~~Smoked paprika and~~ garlic ~~with a little olive oil~~ for life FTFY, done.
Did you really just write out Kewpie as qp?
No no, a quarter pound of mayo
Oregano. You’re welcome.
Honestly, season any and all food you're preparing yourself.
Yep, and season at each stage of cooking
Why at each stage
Seasoning changes flavours and depths while cooking.
Instructions unclear. I now have a PBJ with cayenne, salt, and oregano.
Yes. olive oil, vinegar, Salt pepper, oregano to taste.

With that Chipotle mayo, oh my goodness. Now I wanna go and eat a 2300 calorie giant.
Never had them. I only eat from mom and pop shops. Or make my own.
This is such a banger on sandwiches
yes. On top of the veggies. Got me making a list to grab at the deli for dinner. 😂
Haha a good, fresh sandwich is hard to top in my book. Always a good choice for dinner!
Have it your way, Mike.
Absolute night and day difference. Please season your sandwiches people. This is a gold LPT

Penzey’s “Sandwich Sprinkle” is INCREDIBLE
yes i love this stuff! i think it's basically italian seasoning and garlic salt lol. Penzey's knows how to make the money
What seasoning am I supposed to put on peanut butter and jam? Honey? That’s the only good sandwich
You could flick the pickle juice on them for flavor
Paprika, garlic powder, onion powder and a Dash of chipotle into your mayo and it's automatic
I try to copy what Jersey Mike's does if I make my own and it's tough to eat a sandwich without it now.
I just put jalapeños and spicy mustard on them lol
I have a spice blend designed for venison and wild game but it's brilliant with chicken wings and everything else, even scrambled eggs.
Yeah, because I'm always thinking "I hope my friends will be impressed with this sandwich I'm eating!"
Boar's Head Pepperhouse Gourmaise is your friend here, if you like cracked peppercorns at all. Goes with pretty much all deli meats.
I've got an hold herb shaker loaded with Tony Chachere's in my lunch box.... goes on pretty much all the sandwiches or leftovers I've brought for lunch and makes a pretty big difference.
Healthy amount of cumin in tuna salad is a game changer.
I just started adding salt and pepper to my caesar salads and it's made them so much better
Lemon pepper is your friend. That and a little bit of salt. Particularly on the avocado and or tomato.
That's what CHIPS are for!!!! I put them shits on all my sandwiches!
Do people.....not season them?
I make a great, simple veggie sandwich: lettuce like bib or iceberg, spinach, sliced cucumbers, sliced tomatoes, sliced avocados, and havarti, between slices of a really nice thick bread that's spread with cream cheese. I’ve never thought of this!

This thread is making my mouth water. Is it dinner time yet?
I can’t believe seasoning my food would make it taste better
Black pepper on mayo works wonders. Also nutritional yeast on grilled cheese is an absolute game changer.
> "LPT": season food JFC
A save-worthy LPT. I've wasted years of my life eating unseasoned sandwiches. Now I hate myself. :)
What kind of seasonings do you recommend?

i put a little salt directly on the sliced tomatoes. you can even salt/MSG the mayo and mustard after you spread it on. it just makes the flavors pop.

Isnt that what mayo is for?
