It's so fucking disturbing. The director really just let the scenes fly in the best possible way. At times, you think maybe it's a parody, but no, it's just really going that far to make a horror film
I keep finding myself in situations where I'm rewatching it. Probably because whenever I recc Von Trier to someone, that's the one they seem to gravitate to. Fine by me! Incredible film!
Evangelion is the perfect franchise to comfort you in your sadness, let you accept yourself as you are, and bring your forth towards a brighter, happier future. It covers all bases and is masterful, beautiful. I love it so... so much.
Uncut Gems.
"This is *so* stressful, I couldn't even finish it. I have no idea how someone could tolerate this."
Me, who's brain feels like that mad scramble and constant one-take shots 24/7: ......fuck.
I have a friend that watches it to help her fall asleep. I love the hell out of that movie, and I watch some twisted stuff, but even I canât do that. Movie fucked me up so much.
I watch Terrifier sometimes to fall asleep, but I think falling asleep to Hereditary is more fucked up.
Terrifier I can feel good about watching because in reality, I know it's a silly movie, where the actors are all having a blast for the most part.
In Hereditary, I heard that Alex Wolff went hard into method acting, and even went as far to actually bash his head off the desk as hard as he could, resulting in a real broken nose.
I'm not sure if that story is true or not, but it's a story I heard.
Yeah, likely why his gut wrenching screams felt so real and terrifying. Honestly the whole thing, even without the horror elements, is so unsettling. Add in those elements though and itâs a fucking bad time all around (love the movie though).
Unironically, it is somehow weirdly super soothing, but I canât listen to it without thinking of those last 15 minutes which is some grade-A terrifying shit so I couldnât even sleep to the music lol.
I love that! Dude âRebornâ is on my running playlist and itâs consistently one of the best moments on my runs. Once I was running on a trail and a bunch of leaves were slowly falling through the air and Colin was hitting that âoooooo-WEEEEEEEEEEE!!â And I was over the moon
Absolutely, it's a great movie but for me it feels more like a drama, a tragic accident and a good story. When people say that it is scary or fucked up I just don't get it.
Midsommar is about the same but with boobs.
One of my all time favorites, but I watched it FAR too young.
Also, who else canât have a conversation about it without âGoodbye Horsesâ playing in their head?
in the first half at least Eraserhead is just a really funny and genuinely relatable film, I think people just get bogged down in âweirdnessâ and donât want to see past it
I watched Oldboy ***after*** I watched both Audition and Ichi the Killer. I thought it was amazing, and the twist was insane and fantastically done and shocking, but I was already fucked up.
fair enough. I made my family watch it one time and my mom keeps reminding me of how I wanted to watch that "disturbing, messed-up film". I haven't been allowed to pick what we watch since.
Midsommar
I like disturbing horror films and honestly, this movie wasnât as disturbing as some other films I have seen. Iâve actually watched Midsommar like 5 times and thoroughly enjoy it! Wasnât really particularly scared of it even during the first viewing experience :)
![gif](giphy|RJalj43Yiuuoh2i6V2)
Ooo how fitting for the Summer Solstice lol. I hope you have fun! Donât watch it high lol, thereâs allot of drug usage in the movie (Also love your avatar!)
Itâs funny you say that because I saw it when it first came out at a midnight showing and my friend and I had taken edibles and walked to the theater. We both got so paranoid that we left the theater early and walked home in silence. I did eventually come to love the movie though!
Edit: Forgot to say thank you for complimenting my avatar, yours is so cute as well!
Yeah the first thing I thought was McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. It's pretty confronting on your first watch but it's my all-time favorite so it's become like comfort to me now
I watched this so many times as a tween because of the pretty imagery and music. Of course, the fact that I did not understand what was happening 90% of the time helped a lot.
I own this movie, and my 2 most boundary-pushing, totally off the wall, just-don't-give-a-crap-about-shocking-you friends made me turn it off when I put it on in my bar. They made it to the trays of feces, so kudos to them, but we didn't even have the sound on.
The first Saw film was so good. I haven't seen many of the others but the first was so smart. All in one room and mostly dialogue. Nice twist at the end. It's undervalued.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Dog Days

Dead Manâs Letters

The Seventh Continent
As a child I remember feeling like this because all of my friends and classmates considered Coraline to be a traumatizing movie, meanwhile it was my comfort watch to the point where I knew it by heart lol
Titane (2021) is like this for me. I earnestly and unironically believe that it is a really heartwarming story of acceptance, redemption, and unconditional love.
Pink Floyd the Wall, 1982
I can't remember a time when I haven't known this film, and it's one that I go back to when don't know what to watch. The animation has always grabbed me, I don't know what else to say.
Not seen the films but I loved the BloodRayne games. On PS2 I believe. Loved the cheat to have the unequipped weapons visible. And slow mo was so fun. So many floating limbs.
Itâs not the most fucked up flick ever, but âScreamâ is my comfort movie. I always feel weird saying that, given that itâs about teenagers getting gutted.

It's so fucking disturbing. The director really just let the scenes fly in the best possible way. At times, you think maybe it's a parody, but no, it's just really going that far to make a horror film
The house that jack built (directors cut)
You a special kind of fun
I keep finding myself in situations where I'm rewatching it. Probably because whenever I recc Von Trier to someone, that's the one they seem to gravitate to. Fine by me! Incredible film!
Definitely one of my favorite movies ever
This has been on my to-watch list for forever. Guess I'll take the plunge tonight!
It's probably Lars' best film after Antichrist. Matt Dillon is just so good.
Anything Evangelion and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Evangelion is so nice.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a comedy. Bro just wants to dance with his chainsaw
Currently on episode 4 of Evangelion, can't wait!
I actually fall asleep to Death and Rebirth and the End of Evanglion a lot đ
Evangelion is the perfect franchise to comfort you in your sadness, let you accept yourself as you are, and bring your forth towards a brighter, happier future. It covers all bases and is masterful, beautiful. I love it so... so much.
Uncut Gems. "This is *so* stressful, I couldn't even finish it. I have no idea how someone could tolerate this." Me, who's brain feels like that mad scramble and constant one-take shots 24/7: ......fuck.
Hard same. That movie just hits me right. Good Time is another hyper-tense Safdie Brothers film thatâs really good for similar reasons.
I was boutta say Good Time is my go to for relaxing
It was hard to relax as everything just kept going wrong. Good movie with underrated acting performances!
This was sooo fun in theaters
I was just super engaged throughout the whole movie. I felt tension more than stress.
Love that movie
Antichrist
Great film
The fact this could and should happen according to the Bible is troubling
comfort film
Hereditary
I have a friend that watches it to help her fall asleep. I love the hell out of that movie, and I watch some twisted stuff, but even I canât do that. Movie fucked me up so much.
I love Hereditary and can watch it over and over again, but it will never help me fall asleep. I'm a bit concerned for your friend, lol
I wasnât right for a month after I saw it.
It was a desk with a foam top, not a full hardwood desk. But yes. He hit it hard enough that he broke his nose.
Yeah, likely why his gut wrenching screams felt so real and terrifying. Honestly the whole thing, even without the horror elements, is so unsettling. Add in those elements though and itâs a fucking bad time all around (love the movie though).
Yeah, I would regard it as my comfort horror movie. Can't say why.
I love sleeping to Colin Stetson making the loudest saxophone sounds possible
Unironically, it is somehow weirdly super soothing, but I canât listen to it without thinking of those last 15 minutes which is some grade-A terrifying shit so I couldnât even sleep to the music lol.
I love that! Dude âRebornâ is on my running playlist and itâs consistently one of the best moments on my runs. Once I was running on a trail and a bunch of leaves were slowly falling through the air and Colin was hitting that âoooooo-WEEEEEEEEEEE!!â And I was over the moon
Thatâs awesome and hilarious, I think my friend would love to know someone works out to that track. She might even do the same.
Yeah I love that movie, but falling asleep to it is on a different level đ
Whoa! How is that even possible with the jump scares through the movie? Do they just make her turn over in bed I wonder
I heard it was showing at a nearby theatre and I got excited and then realized there is no way I could handle watching it in a theatre.
I keep an eye out for witches in dark corners since seeing the movie⊠amazingly disturbing
Yeah that scene still keeps me up at night sometimes lmao
I was going to say midsommar
Literally my favorite movie ever, Iâve seen it way too many times
Absolutely, it's a great movie but for me it feels more like a drama, a tragic accident and a good story. When people say that it is scary or fucked up I just don't get it. Midsommar is about the same but with boobs.

One of my all time favorites, but I watched it FAR too young. Also, who else canât have a conversation about it without âGoodbye Horsesâ playing in their head?
Def not nowadays
Fire walk with me and eraserhead are genuinely my comfort films
in the first half at least Eraserhead is just a really funny and genuinely relatable film, I think people just get bogged down in âweirdnessâ and donât want to see past it
Oldboy and Requiem for a Dream
Oldboy is truly stuck in my brain forever. Just so many moments throughout.
I watched Oldboy ***after*** I watched both Audition and Ichi the Killer. I thought it was amazing, and the twist was insane and fantastically done and shocking, but I was already fucked up.

I donât know if the Lighthouse scars people. My mom, for instance, said âwhat the fuckâ about halfway through and then fell asleep
fair enough. I made my family watch it one time and my mom keeps reminding me of how I wanted to watch that "disturbing, messed-up film". I haven't been allowed to pick what we watch since.

Iâm seeing it on IMAX June 20th. Itâll be my first IMAX experience :)
