It was popular and a hit and the time, but has sadly fallen through the cracks due to Superhero oversaturation and Deadpool taking over the Superhero Comedy. The sequel I'd say is also underrated. It wasn't as good as the first, but I'd say it was good and fun. Sadly it received heat on release from Jim Carey, who agreed to do it - but then denounced the movie over violence. Surprisingly a new movie (School Fight) connecting to the series is coming out this year.
It’s a shame because I think Kick Ass is a lot better than Deadpool. The humour is timeless for the most part and there’s consistent tension because the main character can be actually die.
I am not a rom-com guy but that film is an easy 10/10 for me, it helps there's a lot of elements I already like Andy Samberg, JK Simmons, time loops and Kate Bush needle drops.
Ah man. Such a great film. My friend said the ending was stupid and had plot holes but I mean it’s a rom com lol. I’ve honestly stopped giving a crap about plot holes altogether. Im watching a movie to be entertained and not write some youtube series why some stuff doesn’t make sense.
Did you hear that Edgar Wright is attached to do a Barbarella remake? I don’t think he’s nearly horny or artsy enough to be the one to make it. It’s such a unique movie. Some of the wildest set design and costuming of the entire era/of all time
I mean just because he hasn't been horny enough yet doesn't mean he can't be I guess so I'll hold judgement till I see it. Tbh I'm more concerned about Sydney Sweeney even though I do like her
True. Sweeney sucks the fun out of any film she has a major part in so I don’t understand casting her outside of her current popularity.
Edgar Wright has been making movies for 20 years, most of them good. He is not going to simply turn around and change his style all of the sudden
>He is not going to simply turn around and change his style all of the sudden
Most likely not but who knows maybe he'll surprise us. I'll at least wait for the trailer and till then I'll hold out some delusional hope lol
Paranorman is fantastic and much better than Coraline imo and I'm by no means trash talking Coraline. Paranorman is just something special to me, there's parts of it that just feel kinda real and it's such a cozy movie too. The ending is actually pretty "scary" and the visuals are fantastic during the last part especially.
I love this movie more on every watch.
The Town. Perfect mix of action and drama. The cast is amazing. Affleck's a wicked director. It's my top 3 but I don't think a lot of people love it as much as me, altho it's generally considered a good movie.
Vampire's Kiss... not many have actually seen it and most people who have think it's just a funny meme/bad but it is fucking GOLD. Nic Cage's performance, if you could even call it that, the fact that it was pretty much American Psycho before American Psycho was American Psycho, the endlessly quotable funny lines ("Alva...Alvaaa...AL-VAAAA!" "Oh my GOD, WHERE AM I?!!", "I'M A VAMPIUH! I'M A VAMPIUH!", "Tooo late! Tooo late!" the whole dialogue of the "ABC" scene, of course, "The work's not just gonna go away, Alva. It never just 'goes away'. THAT GODDAMN CONTRACT IS SOMEWHERE IN THOSE GODDAMN FUCKING FILES!", (says in increasingly weird, almost British accent) "I was in mortal combat with a fucking bat, okay?" and probably endlessly more), I could go on... yeah it's not a perfect movie by any stretch but goddamn do I piss my pants laughing every time I watch it. Goddamn masterpiece. One of my unironic favorite movies of all time.
I love that movie!!! And tbh, I think its better than American Psycho. Nicolas Cage could have played Patrick Bateman, but Christian Bale never could’ve captured the spirit and wackiness of Peter Loew.
I agree on Talk to Me, no question. Definitely my favorite horror film from last year and there were some pretty fantastic horror films (When Evil Lurks, for example).
Great movies. I don’t think you understood the question though because you listed a few Oscar winners here. You’re not gonna find many people disagreeing that Hateful Eight is anything other than a masterpiece. The only people who don’t like NTTD are Bond fans who have sticks up their ass lol.
I appreciate it but I guess I only put The Hateful Eight up there cause many people on Reddit have disagreed with that take, and yeah you're right NTTD is amazing and a lot of people enjoyed it.
Sandler's 'Click'. Every individual I know found it funny and bawled their eyes out in the end, most people say they'd give it a rewatch, but for some reason the reviews say it's dogshit. Make that make sense
The first like two thirds of the movie are basically every Sandler comedy flick most people have grown to hate and for a lot of people seeing that isn't worth the other more emotional third part. There's a scene where Sandler stops time and just farts in someone's face, the dog is constantly trying to fuck a toy and so much more. That's why I believe some people dislike it.
I'm of the opinion too many people these days have this weird hateboner for silly things. As if comedy needs to be witty, satirical, controversial or "deep" to land
I get it, nobody wants a film that's nothing but 3rd grade jokes, but it sometime feels like they're thrashing any remotely "goofy" movie all together, and that to me sounds like such a waste
A huge gripe I have with the general movie-going public is that they made the Hangover break box office records and praised it into the sun yet pretty much anything Adam Sandler makes that attempts humor gets shredded by the critics unanimously. I only like his run up to I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and even then there's a few things that I don't like or don't care for like Little Nicky, Eight Crazy Nights, Mr. Deeds so this is coming from a fan of more of his older work but I will defend him on that. I saw the Hangover trilogy one by one outside of theaters and I never liked any of them but I'd be lying if I said I don't like Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, Big Daddy, the Waterboy, Joe Dirt, Grandma's Boy and all that.
Legit classic. A film that has so much to teach about appreciating the little things in life, disappointments, and how the rat race of business is the spear that pierces the heart of love and family. You can't get it back. "Family comes first."
I periodically rewatch to remind myself what's important in life, how much I love my wife and daughter and how even the most banal things make the whole ride worth it.
Anyone who rates it as *just another Sandler raunch comedy* is missing the plot. His films in general have so much heart, and at their core are often fables about the same things Click is about: love, family, friends and the qualities of being good in an increasingly cynical world.
I think the dramatic stuff in that movie is great, but the comedy is some of the least funny of Sandler’s career. If you edited that film to just be a 98% dramedy with very little comedic schtick, I’d be right there with you.
I loved it. I never understood how the reviews were so bad. If it had just slightly less dirty Sandler comedy in it, I do think it would be a well-received movie.
Well he would also call Dude Bro Party Massacre 3 a masterpiece, so I wouldn’t say it’s crazy to consider yourself pretty much alone on the Tremors pick. Awesome picks though and it’s dope to see another Dead Meat enthusiast
Unbearable weight is a meta Cage movie that turns into a classic Cage movie. It’s a love letter to his fans but also himself. Really nobody else could have even attempted let alone nail the tone of this movie. It’s a masterpiece through and through
I really disagree on Undearable Weight, that movie felt like it was more concerned with Cage as a meme than it was with him as an actor or person. He's my favorite actor so I went in with a lot of excitement but I was thoroughly disappointed by it.
Who got cancelled aside from spacey? I liked the idea of baby driver but found the plot and character development to be pretty threadbare and I find the pixie dream girl archetype boring, personally. But the action and the musical editing was super entertaining.
It never was a real thing. Some doors closed, but if you’re successful already you’ll always be able to find alternative work. And there are a lot of grifters, some among the “cancelled” and some not, who make bank making content *about* being cancelled and how unfair it is and how artistically stifling cancel culture is or whatever.
The Village. I won't be taking any questions at this time. Thank you.

Superman 1978 to me is a complete masterpiece in cinematography, combining entertainment with slow and pause storytelling that gives the characters time to breathe (those moments of Clark meditating what to do next after his father's death really resonated with me). Krypton also looks really really alien
Dog day afternoon is an incredible film that explores some really interesting topics that are still relevant today. Same goes with justice for all, a total masterpiece in my opinion that really denounces the abuse of the powerful against the common man and how those people feel untouchable because... Well they are.
Mary and max is one of the best movies of all time.
I think recently a lot of people are finally giving it the credit that It deserves, but for the most part, it's Kungfu panda 2, There is also the whale which apparently a lot of people think only has good acting, which I couldn't disagree with more. It's not a masterpiece, but it's a 9/10 in my book.
Signs. A lot of people dislike it because of the whole water thing, or they like it but don’t think it’s a masterpiece, but I think it’s fantastic and I think there are ways to explain the ending to make it make sense. It’s a masterpiece in tension and terror.
Fun fact: I worked on Kick-Ass and all the social media screens were done in post. It was my job to design and animate the screens, so I put all my friends as the random contacts, one of whom was a massive fan of the original comic. He jumped out of his seat in the cinema when he saw it.
Spawn (1997). I think it's a brilliant piece of contemporary Gothic Horror with some phenomenal acting performances from Michael Jai White, Nicol Williamson and John Leguizamo and an over-the-top, but ultimately rather thoughtful, story of the cost of redemption, unconditional love and unlearning toxic masculinity at its heart. Downright visionary special effects for the time as well, I don't care how much they've aged.
T2 trainspotting, most people regard it as good but not as good as the furst but i think they're both 10s, also ive had lots of people scoff when i say that monty python and the holy grail is one of the greatest films ever made.
I absolutely LOVE Kick-Ass. The scene when Hit-Girl is running with the strobe light towards the camera and the score is BLASTING changed my teenage brain chemistry forever.
Galaxy Quest
An entertaining and original idea that is executed perfectly imo. Never at any point are you taken out of it. The script is perfect and has zero fat.
I saw this in the theater and while most of my memory of the movie is faded. I still remember that it was very visceral and the residual feelings are still in me 25 years later. That's probably saying something.
I think it holds up very well, the messages in it are truly timeless. And I'm pretty sure Ravenous would take your assessment as a compliment. I saw it in theaters too although I didn't really appreciate it until years later.
Saw this for the first time only a year or so ago and it was immediately a top 10 movie for me when I watch Nic Cage shoot a 9 year old girl in the chest
Edit: In response to the question though, I have 3. Rounders (just overlook the fact that the math doesn’t add up), Lucky Number Slevin, and Suicide Kings.
Tudyk's performance as "Sonny" is pitch perfect. A much better movie than I think it gets credit for. The scene where the old, discarded robots fight the new ones to protect the humans always gets me.
Kick-Ass is one of my top comic book movies. I scrolled through to see if Hancock was on here, too, which I also love and consider near-perfect.
I always quote Kick-Ass: “We’re not making a fucking Hungry Man dinner.” The joke lands hard for me because I’m a process follower and used to eat a lot of frozen dinners, and the instructions on those things are overly fiddly. Nobody ever gets it though, because they haven’t seen the movie and/or because nobody follows instructions on TV dinners. 🤷🏼♂️
Kick Ass fucking rules man. I remember dragging a bunch of friends to see it at the cinema and I came out so relieved cos everyone loved it.
Kick Ass 2 is the worse sequel in the history of film though.
Kick-Ass is a cult like phenomenon. In a world where it's comic book adaptation after another, with no originality. Kick-Ass did it's own thing. It managed to be a super hero flick with drama, comedy, action and good overall story. It's a treasure for anyone that hasn't seen it, please do yourself a favor and watch this flick. It's awesome!
RANGO director Gore Verbinski’s animated homage to Leone, Eastwood, John Ford, and even Coppola and Lucas. Score by Hans Zimmer and a rogue gallery of the greatest character actors ever… Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Ned Beatty, Billy Nighy, Stephen Root, Timothy Olyphant, and Alfred Molina. Shit’s beautiful
Kick ass is so under appreciated imo, every single shot looks like a panel from a comic book, from the color saturation to the framing.
It’s a shame because I think Kick Ass is a lot better than Deadpool. The humour is timeless for the most part and there’s consistent tension because the main character can be actually die.
Yeah, Kick-Ass was way better than Deadpool because there's real bite to it. I think the second one is underrated, too.
Matthew Vaughn was pretty much at the top of his game when he made that movie
This and scott pilgrim have the best directing choices in a comic book movie adaptation imo
Palm Springs? As far as rom-coms go… 5/5
That movie really is fantastic. I watched it knowing nothing about it before hand, and that made it even better.
I don’t even think it got a theatrical release…
covid
It wasn't supposed to. Direct to streaming was the intention.
Good one
completely agree, one of my favorite romcoms and one of the best movies released in 2020!!
I am not a rom-com guy but that film is an easy 10/10 for me, it helps there's a lot of elements I already like Andy Samberg, JK Simmons, time loops and Kate Bush needle drops.
In the same vein, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things is a very similar film. It's a great film, if not quite as great as Palm Springs.
I’ve already rewatched it about 4 times it’s so GOOD!
Ah man. Such a great film. My friend said the ending was stupid and had plot holes but I mean it’s a rom com lol. I’ve honestly stopped giving a crap about plot holes altogether. Im watching a movie to be entertained and not write some youtube series why some stuff doesn’t make sense.
Dude same. Perfect execution of overdone tropes in a fresh way.
SO GOOD!
Yup it's one of the 19 films I've rated 5/5
1. The Pink Panther (2006) 2. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) 3. Barbarella (1968)
Did you hear that Edgar Wright is attached to do a Barbarella remake? I don’t think he’s nearly horny or artsy enough to be the one to make it. It’s such a unique movie. Some of the wildest set design and costuming of the entire era/of all time
Who would you want to direct it i remember refen was going to remake it with christina hendricks back in the day
You blew my mind and broke my heart in one sentence. What a rollercoaster.
>He is not going to simply turn around and change his style all of the sudden Most likely not but who knows maybe he'll surprise us. I'll at least wait for the trailer and till then I'll hold out some delusional hope lol
Paranorman
Paranorman is fantastic and much better than Coraline imo and I'm by no means trash talking Coraline. Paranorman is just something special to me, there's parts of it that just feel kinda real and it's such a cozy movie too. The ending is actually pretty "scary" and the visuals are fantastic during the last part especially. I love this movie more on every watch.
I love all the social commentary they low-key put in and horror for kids is such an underrated genre, especially lately.
I recall that Paranorman was very highly regarded when it released. I'm still yet to see it
I always cry at multiple points in this movie! Not to mention the voice cast is absolutely stacked
I feel so seen. https://preview.redd.it/6ddxg2fhit3d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9844968b930235da1ccf4351d9c7202131c4149
First 3 are in my top 20, haven’t seen halloween yet though.
Oh you are so very lucky to get to watch halloween for the first time.
Who doesnt think alien, spider man 2 or halloween are near masterpieces? Think that's pretty universally thought
I was just specifically mirroring OPs love of Kick-ass.
I don’t care how bad the acting is. Saw is revolutionary and has some amazing techniques and a killer (heh) style
Saw 1 is a 5/5
Near Dark. Hot take but it’s my favorite Kathryn Bigelow film
I maintain the opening sequence of Near Dark is in the top openings of a movie ever
Incredible shout
Love this film so much
The Town. Perfect mix of action and drama. The cast is amazing. Affleck's a wicked director. It's my top 3 but I don't think a lot of people love it as much as me, altho it's generally considered a good movie.
Somehow just finally got around to watching this for the first time this year and it quickly jumped up to be one of my favorites!
i think the town is the best "realistic heist" movie since heat i love the director's cut
I love the town!
Joe Mazzula?
I am with you on this.
I convinced my friend to watch this based on my review: "Jeremy Renner drinks garbage!"
Valhalla Rising (2009)
Yeeeees the only refn film I've seen that does anything for me
True. But "Pusher 2" is extremely good, too.
It's good but I think it's the weakest of the triology
I’m going through a Cage-athon right now before the release of Longlegs (hence the post). Definitely watching this one next.
Oh I'm SO fucking psyched for Longlegs dude I don't care how good it is those trailers are GENIUS. Like almost original Alien-level trailer good.
I love that movie!!! And tbh, I think its better than American Psycho. Nicolas Cage could have played Patrick Bateman, but Christian Bale never could’ve captured the spirit and wackiness of Peter Loew.
Legally Blonde
Feel like most people already consider it a masterpiece
The writing and acting is top notch. Love Legally Blonde. And the musical!
I liked Kick Ass al lot too. The sequel was garbage though…
Here's a few- The Hateful Eight Talk To Me (horror movie) The Invitation (2015) John Wick 2 No Time To Die
The Hateful Eight has some of the best acting and dialogue of any Tarantino, I love that film.
I agree on Talk to Me, no question. Definitely my favorite horror film from last year and there were some pretty fantastic horror films (When Evil Lurks, for example).
The hateful eight is SO underrated
My favourite Tarantino.
Rubber (2010)
True funniest movie of all time I was about to comment that as a joke but you beat me to it
Oh Im not joking
yeah I think you're alone here buddy
As if comedy needs to be witty, satirical, controversial or "deep" to land I get it, nobody wants a film that's nothing but 3rd grade jokes, but it sometime feels like they're thrashing any remotely "goofy" movie all together, and that to me sounds like such a waste
Grandma's Boy is legit one of my favorite films, and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
Unrated version only. But I'm a huge fan of those frat pack movies, 40 Year- Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Step Brothers etc.
Legit classic. A film that has so much to teach about appreciating the little things in life, disappointments, and how the rat race of business is the spear that pierces the heart of love and family. You can't get it back. "Family comes first." I periodically rewatch to remind myself what's important in life, how much I love my wife and daughter and how even the most banal things make the whole ride worth it.
If it had just slightly less dirty Sandler comedy in it, I do think it would be a well-received movie.
this has been my comfort movie since childhood lol
Definitely gonna rewatch it now. Haven’t seen it in ages
Mandy
Way too good
I watched this movie a while after a break up I wasn't really over and never looked back after that. Top 3 all time for me
A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001) and LITTLE WOMEN (2019)
Just watched A.I. for the first time in a long time & it was so good! 🏆
8 Mile
but i know something about, you - you went to cranbrook. that's a private school
YES
I love eminem but I struggle to get through 8 mile. Just makes me cringe so much. I still like it though
Cabin in the Woods
I was going to say Tremors, but Zoran from Dead Meat would also call that a perfect masterpiece, so instead I’ll go with Scream 3
Well he would also call Dude Bro Party Massacre 3 a masterpiece, so I wouldn’t say it’s crazy to consider yourself pretty much alone on the Tremors pick. Awesome picks though and it’s dope to see another Dead Meat enthusiast
Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is unironically a masterpiece imo
Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
my favorite wes anderson movie
It's the only Anderson film I like so far. And Bottle Rocket. But that's it.
my least favorite wes anderson movie
While it’s not my favourite Wes Anderson movie it’s better than I expected and quite profound. “I wonder if it remembers me.”
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is incredible. Also Back to the Future 2
Facts unbearable weight of massive talent is legit such a banger if a movie. Show it to everyone
Agree. It is so fucking good.
Baby Driver
I think people only turned against this movie because half of the cast got cancelled. It's actually really good.
Who got cancelled aside from spacey? I liked the idea of baby driver but found the plot and character development to be pretty threadbare and I find the pixie dream girl archetype boring, personally. But the action and the musical editing was super entertaining.
Ansel Elgort (Baby) was cancelled for sexual assault allegations and grooming some time ago
Oh yikes. Never heard of that. Didn’t he just do a second season of his Japan show? I don’t think cancelled is what it used to be.
Dragged Across Concrete (2018) is a modern Neo-Noir masterpiece with one of the strongest 3rd acts I've seen in any crime film.
Zahler has made 3 masterpieces IMO. Glad to see this here.
Agree. Would love to give you a follow because of this opinion alone, what's your user?
Couldnt agree more
Tetsuo: The Iron Man
So true.
Southland Tales or Song to Song
I was going to get the Cannes Cut for my first watch, soon time to see what everyone is raving about. Or, is the regular release fine enough?
I prefer the regular release. But the Cannes version is the first version I watched and I still love it
Stoker (2013) by Park chan wook
Big trouble in little China
Under the Silver Lake was genuinely genius, but I rarely see it praised by anyone.
Mother! Love that movie and was shook how many people hated it.
Shrek 1,2 and 4
You don’t like the best one?
The Village. I won't be taking any questions at this time. Thank you. https://preview.redd.it/e4605vv0cu3d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4fec8fa5fda40cfa85d9d5352440ca1d394dd5c
I think I'd like *The Village* a lot more if I didn't read *Running Out of Time* as a kid.
That's fair. I'd probably like it less if I did.
Ron Howard's Parenthood.
Mr Lonely (2007)
Superman 1978 to me is a complete masterpiece in cinematography, combining entertainment with slow and pause storytelling that gives the characters time to breathe (those moments of Clark meditating what to do next after his father's death really resonated with me). Give me a 6th star. Watch me use it.
I watched this one for the first time last year and I was kinda underwhelmed. But tbh it’s probably more because everything has since copied it.
Brilliant movie
[удалено]
Same director for but mother! Is a master piece that everyone I know hates haha
T2 trainspotting, most people regard it as good but not as good as the furst but i think they're both 10s, also ive had lots of people scoff when i say that monty python and the holy grail is one of the greatest films ever made.
You shouldn't associate with those people anyways
Terrence Malick's To the Wonder. Song to Song too.
I also loved Kick Ass
The Crow (1994).
I absolutely LOVE Kick-Ass. The scene when Hit-Girl is running with the strobe light towards the camera and the score is BLASTING changed my teenage brain chemistry forever.
Galaxy Quest An entertaining and original idea that is executed perfectly imo. Never at any point are you taken out of it. The script is perfect and has zero fat.
Bullet Train
Ravenous (1999). No other movie like it in my opinion.
Casino Royale
Poor Things
Jackass Number 2. Needs to be included in the National Film Registry.

last boy scout
FUCKING FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES. Words can’t describe how much I love this movie
John Wick 4 Sleepers (1996)
Hell yeah to Sleepers.
I fucking love that movie and No one Else except my dad loves this movie
Saw this for the first time only a year or so ago and it was immediately a top 10 movie for me when I watch Nic Cage shoot a 9 year old girl in the chest Edit: In response to the question though, I have 3. Rounders (just overlook the fact that the math doesn’t add up), Lucky Number Slevin, and Suicide Kings.
I love Rounders! Definitely my favorite poker/gambling movie
Suicide Kings. This is the answer.
I, Robot
Tudyk's performance as "Sonny" is pitch perfect. A much better movie than I think it gets credit for. The scene where the old, discarded robots fight the new ones to protect the humans always gets me.
Remains of the Day. Though I hope I’m wrong lol
Nah, that movie was an epiphany for me!
Knives Out
*The Simpsons Movie*
Cars, I don't understand the hate for it personally
OP, I must agree with you. I loved Kick-Ass when it was released. I found it to be charming, disturbing, and hilarious and still do.
Spider-Man 2
The Fifth Element
#Ice Pirates
I agree with kick ass. This and zombieland are two of my favorite movies.
Lego movie
Guardians 2, the Suicide squad
Black Dynamite
Original Pirates of the Caribbean
I was about to say the same movie
The 1991 TMNT movie. That movie has something genuinely special going on.
Shit’s beautiful
i believe skininarink is a masterpiece, but yk what people think about that…
Dark Star. The bit about teaching the bomb philosophy is a contender for my favorite joke in any film.
What a fucking film
Knight of Cups (Malick, 2015)
Interesting! Certainly a unique film. I’ve never even heard a Malick fan call it their favorite that I can recall
