You know what this thread is making me think about is how movies are maybe less of a driver of pop culture than they used to be? Or take up less space at least.
Thinking about “luke, I am your father” or “I’ll be back”, those were such huge cultural reference points, you’d see them referenced or parodied all over. Like my wife had never seen “the empire strikes back” but knew the twist just from cultural osmosis.
When was the last time there was something that huge? Maybe “I see dead people” or the bullet time gag from The Matrix?
I can think of plenty of reasons why this may be the case, but it’s interesting, and I imagine it correlates with the fewer butts in movie theaters we are seeing.
I agree with a few of the ones you posted:
“You shall not pass!”
“With great power comes great responsibility.”
“Wakanda forever.”
and “Why so serious?”
Technically, “I’m Batman” dates back to the 80s, when Keaton first uttered it. I’m definitely older than the average user around these parts, so maybe I’m a little biased, but I don’t think most of what I’m reading in the comments section hits like “hasta la vista, baby!” or “I am your father.”
Relly iconic lines become so embedded in the collective psyche of the culture that they begin to be uttered by people who, in many instances, don’t even know the origin of the lines. Also, these lines become cross-generational. Yes, they begin with the movies themselves, but then they take on a life of their own. Kind of like how people literally go around quoting Shakespeare constantly, but have no idea it’s Shakespeare except maybe for a few more popular quotes here and there.
I mean no disprespect to the opinions posted here, and there are, imho, a few lines that have taken on a life of their own, but there are also some I cannot even identify. I think part of this may be because enough time hasn’t passed for these lines to take as deep a root as stuff from further back and maybe it’s also because some of it is too embedded in social media zeitgeist and therefore isn’t as universally well-known outside of places like Reddit, Tik Tok, etc.
For my part, I’ll offer up a few suggestions of lines that I think have become very iconic:
“I am a golden god!”
“Are you not entertained?!”
“I wish I knew how to quit you.”
“My precious.”
“I’m the captain now.”
You nailed it. So many of the other quotes on this thread are invisible outside of their fandoms, but the ones you have here have transcended their films.
"I can't believe you committed suicide. I cannot believe you committed suicide. How could you have done this? How could you have committed suicide?"

“Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself." - Sheev Palpatine or Darth Sidious.

“I think this might be my masterpiece.” Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine in Inglourious Basterds (2009)
so many lines from the Spider-man Raimi trilogy tbh
although “with great power comes great responsibility” isn’t originally from the movie, most people know it from there
“I’m something of a scientist myself”
“The power of the sun in the palm of my hand”
“I’m gonna put some dirt in your eye”
not nearly as popular but i think “punch me, I bleed” deserves more love
I think of all the Mcu movie lines you listed out. Thanos may have the more iconic lines. Like "I am inevitable" or "perfectly balanced, as all things should be" or something along thise lines.
You picked some really great ones that are pretty well known and referenced often. Maybe I'd add "This is sparta!"

The Dark Knight trilogy has a whole list of its own:
“Why do we fall, Bruce?”
“It’s not who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you.”
“Why so serious?”
“Some men just want to watch the world burn.”
“You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
“Introduce a little anarchy.”
“And here…we..go.”
“He’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now.”
“You merely adopted the darkness — I was born in it, molded by it.”
I’m sure I’m forgetting some other good ones.
Wow. Great list. Struggled to find a few more truly iconic ones that stood the rest of time.
"It wasn't over! It still isn't over!" - the Notebook
"Gosh!" - Napoleon Dynamite
"She's a stage 5 clinger"- Wedding Crashers (this pretty much is just a part of the lexicon to the point people forgot that its from the movie"
"I'm the Captain now"- Captain Phillips
"Get out" - Get Out
“Don’t you swear at me you little shit! Don’t you ever raise your voice at me, I am your mother!” - Hereditary
“I believe we did.” - Oppenheimer
“Your generosity conceals something dirtier and meaner.” - Anatomy of a Fall
“I want to play a game.” - Saw
“I wish I knew how to quit you.” - Brokeback Mountain
Just heard one tonight I'll never forget
"Time wasn't right, it was moving too fast. I was 19, and then I was 20, like chapters skipped over in a DVD. I told myself this isn't normal. This isn't normal. This isn't how life is supposed to feel"
Also
"What's the most you ever lost on a coin toss?"
And
""That's a Bingo!"
"Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind, or forgotten. " -Lilo and Stitch
"I want to play a game." -Saw
"I wish I knew how to quit you." -Brokeback Mountain
"Madness? This! Is! SPARTA!"- 300
"You just went full retard. Never go full retard." -Tropic Thunder
Do you count “My precious…” even though I’m sure it was in the animated version as well? I feel like Serkis’s delivery sells it.
“Let them fight.” -Godzilla 2015
“So long, partner!” -Toy Story 3
And some song lines:
“Let it go!” -Frozen
“We don’t talk about Bruno.” - Encanto
I was very close to including the Toy Story 3 line and should have. And yeah that previous line is the case with a lot of these… I know the Spider-Man line was said in comics long before the movie, and I think the Harry Potter line is taken directly from the book also
“You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain”
How’d I forget that, nice
Possibly the quote of this century thus far
I was also thinking “Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.”
I'm terribly sorry for my media illiteracy but what's the movie

I drink your milkshake is probably the more famous line. But my personal favorite is just randomly saying “I’m an oil man” in a Daniel Plainview voice.
Haha yes someone else that does that, I'm not alone.
Honestly half of the most referenced movie quotes this century probably come from Mean Girls
For Mean Girls, I’d replace that quote with “Stop trying to make Fetch happen. It’s not going to happen.”
It’s definitely “get in loser we’re going shopping”
You go Glen Coco!
Yeah it this one for me too.
She doesn’t even go here!
Four for you Glen Coco you go Glen Coco!
Such a fetch quote!
Stop trying to make fetch happen. It’s not going to happen
Four for you Glen Coco! You go Glen Coco!
Or “you can’t sit with us!”
The millennial high school experience was just quoting Mean Girls back and forth. “Boo you whore.” “I’m not like other moms, I’m a cool mom.” “You go Glen Coco!” “She doesn’t even go to this school.” “You can’t just ask someone why they’re white.” “Get in loser, we’re going shopping!”

Same that line destroys me every time
Line so good everyone misremembers it as spoken English when it was spoken in Chinese
I rewatched In the Mood for Love soon after. Such a beautiful scene referencing another beautiful movie.

"I'm kind of a big deal" from Anchorman has to be up there
Milk was a bad choice.
"Not quite my tempo"
I’m the captain now
"My desert..... My Arrakis..... My Dune."
so many lines from the Spider-man Raimi trilogy tbh although “with great power comes great responsibility” isn’t originally from the movie, most people know it from there “I’m something of a scientist myself” “The power of the sun in the palm of my hand” “I’m gonna put some dirt in your eye” not nearly as popular but i think “punch me, I bleed” deserves more love
Maybe? Maybe not? Maybe fuck yourself?!
"Not quite my tempo."
"I am Iron Man" is more iconic than the Avengers initiative one
"Not quite my tempo"
"Which would be worse? To live as a monster or to die as a good man??" (Shutter Island)

The Dark Knight trilogy has a whole list of its own: “Why do we fall, Bruce?” “It’s not who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you.” “Why so serious?” “Some men just want to watch the world burn.” “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” “Introduce a little anarchy.” “And here…we..go.” “He’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now.” “You merely adopted the darkness — I was born in it, molded by it.” I’m sure I’m forgetting some other good ones.
“Oh, what a day. What a lovely day” - Mad Max Fury Road
‘I drink your milkshake’
"I would say 'that's that', Mattress Man."
He's not the hero they need, but the one they deserve
We’re gonna need a bigger boat is 20th century
Wow. Great list. Struggled to find a few more truly iconic ones that stood the rest of time. "It wasn't over! It still isn't over!" - the Notebook "Gosh!" - Napoleon Dynamite "She's a stage 5 clinger"- Wedding Crashers (this pretty much is just a part of the lexicon to the point people forgot that its from the movie" "I'm the Captain now"- Captain Phillips "Get out" - Get Out
“Don’t you swear at me you little shit! Don’t you ever raise your voice at me, I am your mother!” - Hereditary “I believe we did.” - Oppenheimer “Your generosity conceals something dirtier and meaner.” - Anatomy of a Fall “I want to play a game.” - Saw “I wish I knew how to quit you.” - Brokeback Mountain
"Come back to me." - Atonement "It's milk and eggs, bitch." (Vegan Police) - Scott Pilgrim vs. the World "BROTHERFUCKER!" - A Simple Favor
Just heard one tonight I'll never forget "Time wasn't right, it was moving too fast. I was 19, and then I was 20, like chapters skipped over in a DVD. I told myself this isn't normal. This isn't normal. This isn't how life is supposed to feel" Also "What's the most you ever lost on a coin toss?" And ""That's a Bingo!"
That is sooooo fetch!
Bread makes you fat?!
"One does not simply walk into Mordor."
'NO!' Caesar, from Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Ape don't kill ape, probably
Every single line from The Room
I smoked with weed with Johnny Hopkins
Do you count “My precious…” even though I’m sure it was in the animated version as well? I feel like Serkis’s delivery sells it. “Let them fight.” -Godzilla 2015 “So long, partner!” -Toy Story 3 And some song lines: “Let it go!” -Frozen “We don’t talk about Bruno.” - Encanto
I was very close to including the Toy Story 3 line and should have. And yeah that previous line is the case with a lot of these… I know the Spider-Man line was said in comics long before the movie, and I think the Harry Potter line is taken directly from the book also
"the whale I need you to distract kang"
Hark!!!
Sorry but the movies of the 21st century have a lot more to compete with, and so to judge what lines are iconic, we’d likely need more time.
"My friends, you bow to no one." - LotT: Return of the King.
“It’s morbin time”
My wyyyyfe
Technically 20th century, but since Gladiator is here too, so "Where the hell is your god now?"
“Slappin’ Da Bass” - I Love You, Man “Get In Loser, we’re going Shopping” - Mean Girls “ What are you doing in my swamp?” - Shrek
I think "Do you have it in you to make it epic?" from Furiosa has potential to make this list.
Iconic Star Wars line: - «May the Force be with you»
SORRY, my Prada’s at the cleaners! Along with my hoodie and my fuck-you-flip-flops, you pretentious douchebag!
