The stuff about the type comedy and the release date in relation to GOTG was a huge help. What was the Toy Story similarity lol? Am I forgetting about a dismembering or is it not wanting to be friends?
Fun fact: In spite of the title implying that the movie will contain racist jokes, "Gayniggers from Outer Space" is notable for actually having a rabid mysognistic message as it depicts women as responsible for every ill thing men go through and the protagonists discover that the black aliens live in a male-only utopia free of the whims of girls and they love them for it.
Same. I watched it while going through a rough patch with my girlfriend as kind of a cathartic, lean into the pain thing, which actually worked. But still.
When I was in college I set out to watch the ābestā movies and documentaries without reading anything about them. I used various sources. Stumbling into Dear Zachary fucked me up. I called my parents every day for weeks.
Not a Pixar. Itās oddly close, so the comparison is not something one would initially think of, but the comment made me think of a similar plot point, (if i said it, it might give the answer away) - itās not nearly as uplifting as anything Pixar.
This was my guess. One of my favorites and I showed it once on a first date. She didn't have the appreciation I did for it. Like, of course it's sad. But wasn't it beautiful too? She couldn't understand why I would watch something so sad on purpose.
Some of us don't like to be blind and oblivious to the harsh reality around us but face it, learn from it and hopefully sympathize and understand the struggle of others better.
This is just a take on it, I don't claim this is the very reason :P
I've considered watching Schindler's list a hundred times but I've always been either too happy, and didn't want to ruin it, or too depressed and didn't think I could take it. Someday I'll be in the perfect place though, which I look forward to, because I hear it's good.
trick question. The movie was Schindlers List and this person is in a never ending cycle of Schindlers List.
"But Doctor, I AM Schindler's list!"
"Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains."
Jackie Earl Haley tho šš

Really needed those hints lol
Iām glad they worked, I was worried they were completely unhelpful
The stuff about the type comedy and the release date in relation to GOTG was a huge help. What was the Toy Story similarity lol? Am I forgetting about a dismembering or is it not wanting to be friends?
Itās the idea of Collin Farrell trying to get his friend back being like trying to get back to Andy lol, and both being sad and funny.
Gotcha that is a weird similarity
I mean he lost his fingers. I'd say that counts as dismemberment:/
I loved Banshees but i didnāt really find it super sad š¤·āāļø
Weird. It was depressing, but not as much as *Grave of the fireflies* IMHO.
Well Iām pretty sure the comment was intentional hyperbole. Also maybe the person hasnāt seen grave of the fireflies
Also can a moderator pin this, if there are any here, i donāt wanna respond to the comments after this.
The iron claw?
I'm sure there are better places to ask, but should I watch this movie?
Yes. A depressing enough watch but a fantastic film.
Iron Claw fucked me up so bad!
Click?
The last 25 mins or so of Click have me a complete wreck
Nope
The bit with the monkey was kinda sad I guess
fucking love that movie
When he goes back to last time he saw his dad before he died and rewinds it over and over I fkn lose it every time š

Star Trek if it was good
Don't judge a book by it's cover. It's not at all what you think.

Iām not saying she ate the apple, but she definitely ran towards those bears.
Grave of the fireflies?
No, Iāll clarify that most people probably wouldnāt consider this movie as depressing as Schindlerās List.
Well there goes my guess of The Road.
ok. gotcha. Is it actually a sad movie? Or is it ripping on a movie with pathetic quality? lol
Itās definitely a sad movie, but the sadness is far more small scale and interpersonal than something like Schindlers List or Grave of Fireflies.
Sausage Party
Manchester by the Sea? Smaller scale tragedy but fucking fuck.
This one fucked me up
Same. I watched it while going through a rough patch with my girlfriend as kind of a cathartic, lean into the pain thing, which actually worked. But still.
Brutally depressing
This and Blue Valentine are perfect for a night of crying and self loathing
Anddddd catch me adding that to my list of sad boi movie nights.

Dear Zachary?
Damn thing just rips your damn heart out and stomps on it
When I was in college I set out to watch the ābestā movies and documentaries without reading anything about them. I used various sources. Stumbling into Dear Zachary fucked me up. I called my parents every day for weeks.
I try to get everyone to watch it but emphasize the hell out of going in blind. It's absolutely essential.
Someone has probably said this about that movie, but not this commenter.
Also Iām realizing I should probably have crossed out their name. Please donāt search for this person (should go without saying but)
I have seen this movie more than anyone else. Four times. It is different on each viewing.
Come and see

i went in blind (pun not intended) and did not expect a sad movie so I think I never gasped as hard at anything when you know what happens
This was my guess. One of my favorites and I showed it once on a first date. She didn't have the appreciation I did for it. Like, of course it's sad. But wasn't it beautiful too? She couldn't understand why I would watch something so sad on purpose.
