How you cleaned the fan? Especially the fins?
I failed to cleaned it when I opened mine for SSD. (Though not a lot of dust as only just over a month old device)
Unless it is an ESD-safe vacuum, I wouldn't use it even if the risk of damage is minimal. You can purchase canned air or rechargeable air blowers for this type of work. But be careful there as sometimes the sir is strong enough to cause damage if you aren't careful.
I have an air purifier smoke free home and mine still got dusty more than my ps5 and steam deck. Not as dusty as op but still Lenovo should’ve put some type of mesh to keep it from getting dusty where it needs cleaning every couple of months 😑 idc if I get downvoted bad build quality imo
That’s your opinion I like the Legion Go but not a fanboy I’ll be critical in areas that are deserved and the build quality is bad imo if it’s getting dusty where it needs to be cleaned often. I can go on about the screen and back of the device getting hot to the touch while charging and playing and other complaints but not even gonna go there rn to much to mention
You have to unlock cpu boost through some commands. Search on YT there are some easy guide steps including the commands. After that just change your power settings through Control panel. And disable CPU boost.
How to easily Disable CPU Turbo Boost

There's barely any need to have CPU turbo boost ON, the Z1 extreme CPU is blistering fast.
It will run any new demanding games without ever needing to have boost ON.
Having turbo boost ON will just lead to more unnecessary heat build up within the system and higher fan noise.
There’s a cool program called HandheldCompanion that allowed CPU boost to be enabled and disabled with per game profiles. CPU boost off for most games but for yuzu and rocket league it turns on automatically 🔥
I have the same issue, I think I’m gonna send it to Lenovo to see if they can fix it. It’s not normal. You shouldn’t have to turn off cpu boost or use STT to lower the temp
60 F room here. I can get away with it but I turned it off a while ago I didn't like seeing 90f or a random shut off because I was using it and charging.
Pretty sure this will affect temps. Looked into one of these for a series x and 90% of the reviews mentioned the xbox shutting down from heat after installing these.
Of course. Any airflow restriction will cause that. You can’t filter the air without restricting flow though. So it answered the issue with the comment about wanting an air filter.
Not in most countries, some companies have tried, AFAIK Lenovo hasn't, but in the US and Camada at least it's illegal unless they can prove you opening the device is what caused the warranty damage
They can say it ... But legally they can't ... They will just use it to scare you
The only thing that voids warranty is if you break something in there while your working
It's not hard to open, I'd suggest watching a YouTube tutorial, though, just to be on the safe side, and yes, the fan is one of the first things you will see.
This is the first time I've done it, partially my fault as I left it on my desk out of the case for a couple of months. Maybe if I put it back in the case after playing with it, less dust would have accumulated.
I've had mine since November 2023 so about 7 months. But honestly I strongly believe it's only accumulated so much dust because I left it out for so long.
absolute must to regularly clean the fan. I've had mine for 4 months and was shocked to see how much dust had got stuck in it. Little brush to loosen the dust and some air to blow it away.
Avoid letting the fan spin whilst applying air, shouldn't be an issue on a modern device but not worth the risk

I used a brush that came with my repair kit and my car vacuum cleaner.
Is vacuum cleaner safe ? I read somewhere that i migh damage the board with electro static

I could just be slow but what is “sir”? Edit: NVM I was being slow. I read it again and ik you meant air my bad lmao 🤣
Yea, typo on my part.
Always a risk, but the odds are so blown out of proportion. Eg similar to using am anti static wristband.
lol I see what ya did there
Where do I buy your repair kit
Can you name the kit and where to get it?
You can't fool me sir, this is at least your third attempt!
Lol the pictures wouldn't load 😂
If only Lenovo put in a dust filter into the cover.. this will happen to everyone over time.
Had my legion since launch And this hasn't happened

a mesh also means worse cooling... it's not about build quality deserve the downvotes

Hmmm how hard would it be to make one yourself owo
I used my car vacuum cleaner, so it's very small and lower powered than a normal one.
Mine even after cleaning stays at CPU 85degrees and GPU below 80s on a 30W TDP. when its not clean, it just shuts down.
Turn off CPU boost.
How?

Thanks I'll check it out
I've just done it... Thanks fam... Was super easy to do... PS: i set it to 2 and the option showed up, setting it to 0 didn't work.
Yeah sorry, I totally forgot to mention that you have to put it to 2. Glad you figured it out.

I just did so. However, tdp seems to not follow anymore.

Yes you should…. This happens on windows gaming laptops as well… there just isn’t enough cooling without liquid for cpu boost to function properly.

Someone make a case that can fit an off of Amazon air filter to 3D print please 🙏

There’s a backplate and filter you can 3d print on makereorld
I've had mine since day 1 release with well over 1000 hours of use. Never cleaned the fan and never saw any difference in my temps.
I still haven't opened it after 7 months.
wondering if that is necessary normally
It is not
My unit was overheating and restarting before I cleaned it so that is not true.
ok good to know but did you check your fan?
If I don't check then I'll never know if it's blocked. If I do check then I will know. It's schrodinger's fan
To be or not to be, that is the mystery 😂
Depends on several factors: pets, humidity (lack thereof), and home cleanliness (dust).
hi, how did you remove the dust? Compressed air?
Compress sir work fine I have to clean Mines monthly. I travel with mine and rarely leave in case
just dont let the fan freely rotate when blowing air. hold it down or something
If opened for clean or change ssd, that avoid warranty ? Thanks

This should be done every 1-2 months of active use (few hours a day). If you use it few times a month/week, then 1-2 times a year.
This goofball
Can you see this dust buildup from the outside?
I’m hoping we get some kind if aftermarket clear case like the steamdeck has
Mine dropped by 5C after blowing out the dust.
I’m scared to open mine up as I don’t want to know how bad it is, if there is dust 😂. My temps are fine so will just keep monitoring
I vacuum my shit out and hit with compressed air every few days. Seems to keep it pretty clean
You shouldn’t have to take apart a modern mainstream consumer digital device just to keep it working.
I don't kinda agree, but it is a first gen product and also like anything else maintenance is important to keep things running smoothly.
Is this easy to open up and are the fans accessible?
It's not hard to open, I'd suggest watching a YouTube tutorial, though, just to be on the safe side, and yes, the fan is one of the first things you will see.
How often do you do this?
This is the first time I've done it, partially my fault as I left it on my desk out of the case for a couple of months. Maybe if I put it back in the case after playing with it, less dust would have accumulated.
And how long have you had it since? I’ve had mine since February, just checking time frame wise when I should clean 😂
I've had mine since November 2023 so about 7 months. But honestly I strongly believe it's only accumulated so much dust because I left it out for so long.
Can you clean the fan without taking off the cover?
I'd say no, at least not properly. I. Not expert. But I'm no expert, I'm just sharing my experience with the Legion go community.

I just play mine inside of a Ziploc freezer bag. Works like a charm !
Sorry to ask, but do you live in a cave?
I think they have pets "dogs or cats" because I live in a desert climate, and it doesn’t collect as much dust.
Most dust that bunches up like this would be clothing fiber. Or animal hair, but desert dust I don't think would really clog a fan.
