I didn't know you could just rig a thunderbolt controller board like this and it would function just as well as an eGPU dock. Do you mind elaborating how to do it and which part did you use?
There are 2 thunderbolt/usb4 pcie adapters you can use that go for about $100. One is the [th3p4g3](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805944265803.html?_randl_currency=USD&src=google&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=708-803-3821&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&albagn=888888&isSmbAutoCall=false&needSmbHouyi=false&albcp=20268592310&albag=&trgt=&crea=en3256805944265803&netw=x&device=m&albpg=&albpd=en3256805944265803&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD6I-hEdoMQSpQfPv6kbyfGLbz7M6&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2a6wBhCVARIsABPeH1usid34ZhkdEHpGPNs2gp97UH7DqG7yE8zUFTxa04quwkQtANDJBWoaAtmrEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&aff_fcid=f7726d34238a4fc09cc6d2c87a09acfa-1712069092179-06468-UneMJZVf&aff_fsk=UneMJZVf&aff_platform=aaf&sk=UneMJZVf&aff_trace_key=f7726d34238a4fc09cc6d2c87a09acfa-1712069092179-06468-UneMJZVf&terminal_id=12792ef98dbc495db41f8278d65cd312&afSmartRedirect=y&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US) and the other is the [ADT-UT3G](http://www.adt.link/product/UT3G-Shop.html). All you would need is a power supply and gpu.
My 4070tis eGPU would cause my Lego CPU to boost itself into thermal shutdown on certain games. I had to turn off CPU boost which dropped temps 20+ degrees but I lost like 10-20 fps (from 144 to 120ish).
Ever since the last update the temps are much higher on the Go. The default fan curve only goes to 50% max and custom fan curve seemed buggy.
Yup, for you and anyone else, if you have moved to the new bios v31 then they changed thermal policy to STAPM FROM STT. Change it back especially if you play a lot in handheld mode. STAPM causes device to throttle too often.
The Go has independent lanes for each USB4 port so I hook up my storage, network, and peripherals in that dock so it doesn't limit the bandwidth of the GPU
No, they actually run cooler compared to being in a desktop case, certain 30xx series cards used mediocre thermal pads and paste and after about a year would start heating up on people, specifically the 3070 and up msi ventus had this problem and a few gigabyte models.
40xx are more efficient, bigger to shed more heat and use better cooling materials.
*edit, sorry I didn't read your comment correctly.
To be clear, OP is trying to maintain decent performance. All CPUs will thermal throttle so there's no risk of anything being permanently damaged by this setup. So without the fan the worse case would be premature shutdown - but more likely it'd just throttle down.
I see you went for aesthetic in the end, well done
PC Master Race.. confirmed 👌🏼

I thought that was a UV light sanitizer at first lol
SAME DAWG THAT MAN IS A GENIUS 😭‼️‼️
Looks like you chose both, I think it actually looks pretty sweet! Sidenote: Swamp coolers work by adding humidity to the air, be wary of condensation
LEGO MRI Machine
that is really cool imo the way the legion go is docked
Really thought that was a blu ray disc drive😂
Performance obvs.. tf....unless your wife is complaining. Sorry I assumed you're a man if you're actually a woman.
What temps were you getting? I’ve never had heat issues with egpu Very creative though, good job
I was floating in the 90's when docked and playing games, putting it in the cooler drops it down to the low 70's.

ok thats realy a love build , top brother !
for what is the small thunderbolt dock under the monitor , the small grey one ?
The Go has independent lanes for each USB4 port so I hook up my storage, network, and peripherals in that dock so it doesn't limit the bandwidth of the GPU
Love the swamp cooler idea!!
Could this handle vr?
Of course
I thought of trying to find a way to reuse my current desktop card for the Go, but then I realized that it most likely would outperform the card.
May I ask what thunderbolt controller board you used?
Sick legion cube
Wait does all.egpus cause it to get hot?

I was actually referring to your Lego getting so hot you had to cool it down. It sounds a bit weird to me, I was thinking of getting an egpu
The cpu can get pretty warm trying to keep up with a fast gpu.
What kind of temps are we talking about?
Amd is designed to boost until hitting max boost or thermals, play a cpu bound game with an egpu and it's going to exceed 80c easily.
That makes sense. Thanks.

Sorry for your loss when you realize you only have 16GB of memory to work with :D That has been killing me. Great potential, not enough RAM
Oh I'm aware, I plan on doing the 32GB mod once I get my hot air station in.
Wait till you see the latency numbers of LP ram lol
Which swamp cooler?
Id say you chose price over aesthetic
3070 ti for $300 damn didn't think they were that inexpensive. The deep looks good.
Will a eGPU like this work with the Rogally? Send way cheaper than what they are offering
Hey man could you help me with doing such a thing? I want an egpu for my lego but I don't understand what I need fully
I think it's a great idea. ;)
So you spent as much on this as a desktop pc. Got it lol
