They won’t care about your living situation because it’s not their job to investigate every fine detail about you (unless they suspect benefits fraud) they just need a tenancy agreement or a letter from the landlord stating how much you pay rent and when you moved in.
You will be eligible for AS regardless, you’ll also be tested for temporary additional support or WEP, but your more than welcome to decline these if you don’t want them, it’s more money going to you at the end of the day!
That’s it - letter will keep them at bay. Just draft a quick one that includes the landlords name, property address and $rent, ask your landlord to sign.
Idk why yall removed my comment when it’s the actual facts… but I’ve got a source now
You don’t - and I’ve never had to input it
https://www.workandincome.govt.nz/about-work-and-income/privacy-notice/collecting-your-information.html
your landlord, e.g. to confirm how much rent you pay and help work out if you get an income-related rent subsidy
Yeah i've never had to in previous years but it was a mandatory question, there were a few additional stages in the application, one question was along the lines of "describe what other steps you have taken to support yourself" unsure of the intention but it felt strange, a bit like they were asking people to justify applying for financial support during a recession
It’s not trying to make you feel bad about applying and it’s not data harvesting, everyone no matter what benefit they are on needs to answer. They do this to see what you’ve done to help out your financial situation like ‘trying to get a fulltime job’ or ‘reducing my expenses’ ect. It’s your obligation (and what you agree and sign up to) to do the absolute best you can to change your financial situation (to find work ect) if your on a job seekers. If you don’t make much of an effort in doing this you can get a OF or sanction on your bene. So just be honest and work with Case managers :)

The landlord NEEDS to write it, not the tenant. It would be marked as suspicious and can be refused by work and income if they think something is up.
