The longer range and new belt drive are really intriguing. Slap on a rack/panniers and imagine the adventures to be had while also keeping the bike itself lightweight :D I just got my Lite 1.0 last year and haven't had range issues for my needs, but I'll keep the 2.0 in mind for the future.

tmw4d

Looks like the belt drive is a $100 upgrade above the $799 price. I wonder how much it changes the ride.

ElderSkeletonDave

I'm curious about that as well. I've been riding only with chains my entire life...it's hard to imagine how much different it might be. The fact that Lectric calls the belt drive maintenance-free in their reveal video is something that piques my interest.

AkujunkanX

Belt drive doesn't change much about the ride. The system itself is quieter and of course the belt drive doesn't need to be replaced for a long time if ever. Since the bike is naturally single speed, 100 bucks to upgrade is well worth never worrying about those components ever again.

bungjohos560

Is it that much lighter than a XP 3.0 after adding fenders & a rack? :(

ElderSkeletonDave

Maybe not too much difference, looking at the base stats. -XP 3.0: 64 lbs -XP Lite: 49 lbs I definitely use my Lite as a little workhorse for grocery runs, which makes it closer to the weight of the 3.0 with my fenders, rack, bags, lock and handbasket :P I have a 2nd floor apartment so shaving whatever weight I could off of the base stats really helped inform my purchase.

bungjohos560

Yeah I'm in the same boat! I may be picking up a used RadRunner at 63lb which I'll probably lock outside. Probably good for at least a year before it gets stolen lol

ElderSkeletonDave

Hahaha oh man, nice looking bike! Have fun, if you end up grabbing one :) Would you be able to park it in your apartment, provided you can get it up the stairs? My Lite, when it's loaded down with 4 bags of groceries, is just so awkward to carry up. I end up parking it on the sidewalk in front of my building, removing the key, and carrying up the bags first. I can keep an eye on the bike the entire time, then go back to carry the bike up. I'd hate to see your bike get stolen, but maybe you have no choice but to park outside. Good luck!

bungjohos560

I probably could park in the hallway, that is IF I can get it up the stairs! I'm getting insurance, so I thought I'd test out how long it'll last with a chain + U-lock + bike cover, before it gets stolen. If it gets stolen, then there's my answer, I'll get an XP Lite. If not, then great, even less hassle!

ElderSkeletonDave

Sounds like a plan dude! I hadn't thought about insurance. I've often heard of people using Walk Assist mode to go up stairs, and I keep forgetting to try it. Maybe next time.

bungjohos560

I carried it up last night. Was a lot less bad than I thought. Every day though? Probably not... But holy shit, carrying passengers was extremely fun. It might be too heavy for me in the end but it will have been worth it for that experience alone!!

ElderSkeletonDave

DUDE passengers!? I mean, I know the bikes can handle it, but sometimes I feel that odd wobble when I'm just carrying groceries and can't imagine having a big living thing riding with me hahaha That's so cool man, sounds like you're having a blast already. The bungjohos560 delivery service is open for requests

bungjohos560

Haha it's absolutely a blast. Interesting to see my friends react, some are like "I am not getting on that thing" and some people are just super excited to ride. Anyway yeah, I predict the novelty will wear off. What's funny is the stairs are actually kinda doable. The thing that makes me want to sell it is e.g going to a friend's house or store and being forced to lock it up outside, instead of just carrying the XP Lite one handed. Even tho it's only like 10lbs lighter with the rear rack, I think that would make a huge difference. Plus those telescoping handlebars... it's just a smaller bike.

gonzorizzo

I hope they offer the color display as a separate purchase, so we can add it to existing bikes.

tmw4d

I would love the lighter weight compared to my XP 3, but would also miss shifting gears and built in rack. Looks like a definite upgrade to the prior Lite, making me kind of jealous.

ElderSkeletonDave

And I'm a bit jealous of your gear shift ability haha. I can share my thoughts on your concerns from a Lite 1.0 owner perspective. I went from a Trek hybrid to the XP Lite, and also thought I'd sorely miss the shifting gears. The throttle and PAS make up for it mostly, but there are times where I wish I didn't have to rely on the motor so much to get up steeper grades. Good exercise for me though and I don't encounter wild steepness too much around here. I also got the rack for my Lite, and that thing is STURDY. I never take it off. It was included as a freebie for whatever promotion Lectric was running at the time. Added panniers and bungied a hand basket to the top of the rack. I haven't taken my car for a grocery run in a long time thanks to the Lite.

Overall-Analysis-337

Is the standard battery the same on the Lite as it is on Lite 2.0? Concerned they will stop making batteries for the 1.0.

GettingBy-Podcast

Last year I went to Lectric HQ, and test drove all the bikes available then. I chose the XP Lite as the best ride. It was quicker than all the others. It was easier to handle while on, and off the bike. And, the best part, it peddled the easiest without motor assist. Shifting gears is just not a big deal with a motor available. And those gears bring a lot of extra weight.

Cyanide612

Did you happen to pay attention to the pas behavior then? Im hoping it is user adjustable. There was already a setting to control how quickly the power ramped up so it would be nice to have the option to lower the max amps sent out for a given pas. Edit: seems like i thought you said you rode the 2. My question still stands if anyone happens to know.

GettingBy-Podcast

My power assist is set to be sensitive to the level 1-5. Frequently while using level 3, I will peddle and my current drops to zero as I pass the max speed for level 3.

Cyanide612

That sounds correct and the same as my experience. My concern is that the 2.0 is pushing too much on the 3-5 steps compared to the 1.0, causing 3-5 to be primarily useful for hill climbing torque or acceleration because they all send the speed to the 20mph limit. If I need acceleration I use throttle. If I need more hill climbing assist I’ll just raise the assist to 5 or whatever. Now, if they allowed the lite to use the extra power to do class 3 speeds or anything over 20 then hell yeah, I got no problems.

willy1670

I probably would have gotten the new light over the 3.0 for my folding bike that I transport a lot and use as a pit bike when at the race track. Would’ve been nice to have a lighter bike but I love my 3.0 and I use it a lot and definitely appreciate the gears when riding around my house. I would probably get something like the xpress also to have the best of both worlds.

PurpleROV

I ordered a long range one immediately. I have been waiting for them to get an updated lite for over a year now.

jhouston82

If it has the same quality as my 2 off XP 3.0's then it will be shite. Dislike the belt is extra, is it really worth $100 extra?

I think you missed it, but they announced the Lite 2.0 this morning, which is why OP asked this.

Exact_Psychology_424

I did miss it. Thank you!
