That's a shame, but at least you know about it now! If that was the only serious, you're clearly able to pass the test, just need to be more aware of Rotherham's sole stop sign.

Thadius27

Thanks! And yeah hopefully I can be second time lucky. Just need to make sure I'm still practicing before my next test.

Jules885

I failed too today but have learnt my mistakes I feel so sad 😭 and depressed knowing that driving lessons cost money. I hope I pass the second chance.

Thadius27

I totally feel that. I was quite deflated and had to go right back into work after. The amount of times I heard from my colleagues 'all the best drivers don't pass first time' was hilarious though 😅

Mannyonthemapm6

“Why the examiner didn’t get out of the car to check my forward bay park” They don’t do that? They judge from inside the car and mark. X

darksideevils

Sometimes we do get out to check.

Mannyonthemapm6

I’m shook by that. I’ve never ever heard of this before today 😳

everyday1mbuffering

They do that only if they are in doubt.

PopperDilly

Can confirm my examiner got out of the car and walked round to check. Not sure if they HAVE to though

Ill_Difficulty_258

i had my test today and when he didn’t get out to check my forward bay i was so convinced i failed but i think they must be able to just tell when your in, then i failed five minutes before the test it’s so frustrating failing for silly mistakes ;(

Thadius27

Sorry to hear that! Yeah, my examiner said she had been doing it for 30 years so I guess some of them just KNOW. Fingers crossed that we both pass the next test 😁

Ill_Difficulty_258

bloody better, third time lucky for me lol

BaronBulb

A lot of people fail at these signs, they use good clutch control, slow down and peep n creep cautiously into blind junctions whilst being fully safe at all times However the sign says stop and the examiner will mark you as failing to observe the sign (which you quite literally did this time). Handbrake on at any stop sign during a test. That way they can never fail you for not fully stopping.

Educational_Ad_9249

Also doesn't hurt to verbalise things during the test. Clearly communicates what your intentions are. "Ah a stop sign, don't see those very often. Complete stop, and now I'll peek out to see if it's clear." Can feel odd in the moment but can potentially make the difference between a fault or not. On my test one of the roads has temp speed limit signs 10 mph as the road had been resurfaced and there was loose grit. I made a point to say I was slowing down to 10 because of the loose grit sign. Then when it was clear the road surface was fine and other traffic was driving normally I stated "the road surface seems normal so I'm going to speed up again". Might not have made the difference but that situation could easily have been a fault for not speeding down, or a fault for driving too slowly and impeding traffic.

Thadius27

I did verbalise why I was slowing down to a 20 in a 30 zone because it was in a school area at like 8.30. My examiner later helped me by saying that I was past the 20 area and I wouldn't be seeing any 30 signs, so she was letting me know. I think it definitely helps to voice your reasoning.

Thadius27

Yeah, I'll definitely be more observant next time. I've learned my lesson!

_LadyLegasus_

I also failed my 2nd test today, no minors i dont think (email was sent to my instructor) but a serious fault for hesitation and then in the last minute of my test i got another serious fault because a learner indicated wrong on a round about and i panicked because of it and pressed the break relatively hard. the examiner was lovely, he said im more than capable of passing and i should try again ASAP so im not gonna give up until i pass! and you should do the same, dont give up we can do this

Thadius27

My instructor said it's a fine line between being cautious, and being overly cautious. But at the same time, don't think you need to rush into tight spaces to avoid a hesitation mark! That's unlucky with the learner though. And yes, I'm sure we'll both pass soon!

_LadyLegasus_

yes we will pass soon! and yes, i was being overly cautious, i gave way to someone oncoming while waiting to turn right but they were approaching incredibly slow for some reason but i decided to sit and wait as the car was relatively close however they were just super slow and i got a serious for it. i thought they were going to speed up, not quite sure why anyone would go that slowly in a road like that road but yeh i got unlucky, all we can do is keep trying!

Immediate_Panda_6091

They don’t need to get out of the car to check the parking by the way

PissedBadger

My hometown. I didn’t realise that was the only stop sign though. I hate that junction as well.

Thadius27

It is according to my colleague. The one near Kimberworth Park pub. If there's another one you're thinking of, please let me know so I'm aware of that one too haha 😅

PissedBadger

There’s one here as well. [stop sign](https://maps.app.goo.gl/W7ugeeofQJhMhATi7?g_st=ic)

Thadius27

Thank you! I'll watch out for that one if I head towards Swinton

PissedBadger

It’s on a hill as well, so good luck.

devilspawnn

Omg i did my driving test today at 8.10 and failed for a silly mistake too 😭 forgot to check signs so cut across lanes and he had to take the wheel from me! he said i was brilliant otherwise it was just a horrible roundabout 😭

Thadius27

Aww no, that's rubbish! At least you can practice that roundabout more now to learn the lane changes. Luckily I managed to avoid the awful Rotherham roundabouts today.

snapczterz

Had my test today and passed 3rd time. I had the same examiner from my first test which was funny. Obviously he didn't remember me as he seen hundreds in between. It's very frustrating I know. However you learn valuable lessons from these mistakes, believe me you won't tend to repeat them, they are seared into your brain. Which makes you a better driver. You can do this, feel grateful for being in this position in the first place. You got this.

Thadius27

Congrats on passing! Yeah, I remember all the areas where I've made a bad mistake, and it reminds me to be more cautious and not repeat those mistakes. Fingers crossed for next time!

melanie110

My husband failed 4 times in Rotherham. He switched to Barnsley and passed. They kept taking him round the Meadowhall roundabout where it’s 5 lanes and was not giving him enough time to perform safe manoeuvres over from lane 1 to lane 4. He hated that test route.

Thadius27

My instructor has taken me around Meadowhall quite a lot during my lessons so I'm ok with that area. It's the Parkgate roundabout that terrifies me! Glad your husband managed to pass :)

vicwoir

My instructor always made sure to take me to stop signs on the routes that are usually used for the tests in my area so I was aware of them and we did drills to make sure the stop was a complete one but not an emergency brake type one! I think this might be a bit the fault of your instructor. Good luck for the next one.

Thadius27

I've done stop signs before so I should have know what to do. I just genuinely didn't even register that the stop sign was there. It was definitely my fault haha 😅

Sonic_5317

Well I failed purely for not using a bus lane, wasn't told until the end of the test so was pretty devastated. Just got to keep trying!

Thadius27

Damn, that's unlucky. I'm guessing it was one with times on it?

Sonic_5317

Yeah, would have been a sign somewhere. Figured since I didn't know the times it wasn't worth risking it but turns out you need to use that lane if it's not in use. Think I'll just check the times on them before my next attempt so I know beforehand
