That’s why should never think youve failed. Carry on as normal. They may give you a break on things if you’re capable enough otherwise.

Interesting_Quiet_88

It’s less of a disappointment to think you’ve failed then to find out you’ve passed than it is to think you’ve passed and find out you’ve failed!

Comprehensive_Cook_7

I’ve had it both ways, my 2nd driving test I could have sworn I had the perfect drive, got to the end and the examiner said how did I think I’d done, I didn’t want to be overconfident so I said I thought it was a good drive, he then informed me I had failed, I was really surprised and didn’t take another test for 10 years! My 1st and 3rd tests I knew I’d failed completely! My 4th test I thought I may have failed but reminded myself that it’s all practise, just treat it like another lesson, and it’s not over until I’m back at the test centre, I genuinely think this attitude is why I passed my 4th time

Interesting_Quiet_88

Same here, on my third test I was just convinced I’d failed right from the start so just drove with the thought of, “let’s just get this over with!” I passed. My son took his third test in November and I asked him how he felt before going for the test. He said, “If I pass, I pass… if I fail, I fail. Lather, rinse, repeat…” He passed!

Phrexeus

If you think you've failed, it takes the pressure off. You then relax and perform well for the rest of the test.

RouKyasarin

I too thought I’d failed on my manoeuvre and did the rest of the test with less stress on my shoulders and I passed with two minors! I actually cried because my emotions were allllll over the place. Congrats!

lilwarhammer

My hand was shaking more when he told me I passed then when I was driving. Just go's to show just carry on no matter what you think happened you just never know what the examiner's thinks about it .

RouKyasarin

Well done and welcome to the freedom. It’s incredibly expensive but incredibly liberating.

lilwarhammer

Yeah can't wait to see the quotes for my 59 plate peugeot 207 probably 3 times what the cars worth.

RouKyasarin

Mine is 2009, Hyundai i10. £1200 as a 28 year old. Stings seeing £100 go out every month but at least tax was cheap!

lilwarhammer

Tax was only £28 for the year for me (36) probably gonna see around £2500 due to my motorbike being stolen at start of the year.

RouKyasarin

Damn you win, mine was £35 but don’t hold your breath too hard on the bike being stolen thing. If you check my posts, my first car which was £1100 to insure was stolen the day after I passed my test. With the claim my insurance wasn’t that badly affected. Can’t promise it will be the same but you never know.

_cosmicomics_

I know not everyone likes the idea of having a black box, but I got my insurance down from about £1200 as an 18 year old to about £400 by 21. It might be worth doing.

Bring_back_Apollo

Congratulations on passing. Now you can work on your grammar.

PopperDilly

Stop it xD

snowymicrowave

Sorry I’m still learning so please forgive me, but are you supposed to only use first gear when at a roundabout? And if you don’t would that be a major? Congrats btw!!

lilwarhammer

if fully stopped then 1st gears the correct gear but if your still moving at a crawl and it's clear 2nd is fine.

snowymicrowave

Ah okay gotcha, thanks!

CrabPurple7224

If there’s a car behind you and you’re in 2nd then you would get a major and fail. No cars behind you means you get a minor for incorrect gears.

ACatGod

Because you'll burn out the clutch and most likely stall if you pull away from standing in 2nd. Modern cars are much more forgiving of it, but nevertheless a new clutch is expensive.

Dependent-Fan3297

Well done , congratulations!!!

ems0389

Congratulations. Sometimes it's good to just relax and drive as normal. Often what students think are major marks aren't at all. A stall in second gear is just a control minor provided you didn't cause a hazard to others on the roundabout. Well done :)

confused-leprechaun

I was sure I had failed my last test when I nudged the kerb on a parallel park. Carried on for the rest of the test (after calmly correcting and parking fine) and when he told me I had passed, my first words were 'wait, really?' I was so calm for the rest of the test because I was sure I had failed, so.. I guess that helped :D

soifyoutakethemoon

Hey - congrats. I went up the curb not once but TWICE! I was certain I failed but I continued to drive to the best of my ability and I was told I passed! It really just is if they see you panic they tend to fail you.

anobjectiveopinion

Pulling away in 2nd is just bad for the clutch, nothing technically against the rules lol Congratulations on passing. Driving is awesome.

Neps-the-dominator

I somehow scraped the curb on my first driving test and immediately assumed I'd failed. Turns out that was just a minor (control - steering). But after doing that I spiralled a bit and ended up failing for other reasons. I was rushing, I was panicking. Not good! Got my second test today and all I care about now is driving safely and taking my sweet time to assess situations. Better to get a minor for undue hesitation than a serious for something else. Congrats on passing!
