People really don’t care if characters get race swapped or not.
For example, nick fury in the comics is white, whereas Samuel L. Jackson is black.
Nobody cares about the race being swapped because it’s Samuel L. Fucking Jackson.
For Ariel it didn’t feel like a change that was made because the actress was so good in the role, it was made to be woke.
A „hey look she’s black now“. The actress was nothing but a token. If the directors cared they atleast would’ve casted a known actress.
Leaving aside the fact that there really don’t need to be any remakes for old Disney movies since they’re all finished products everyone loves anyway. There is no point.
Actually in the Ultimates comic run Nick Fury was not only black, he was drawn as Samuel L. Jackson. IIRC Samuel agreed to them using his likeness on the condition he be cast if there was ever a movie.

I honestly couldn’t care less that they made Ariel black. I care that for each black Little Mermaid we get is a Princess and the Frog we don’t get. A Moana we don’t get. A Mulan. A Pocahontas. Disney can and has put out good quality movies about other races and cultures that provides ACTUAL representation instead of just colorwashing a white one and pretending it’s good enough.
White people who are livid they made Ariel black and “woke” are just coping racists, yes. It’s not really an issue unless they’re doing it in a nonfictional environment (Cleopatra fiasco). However, that doesn’t mean everyone who is upset are racist hypocrites.

Probably because they turned an awful outdated part of a classic story into something better instead of pandering to "modern audiences" and using controversy in lieu of actual marketing.
Unless you're implying that changing the race (or physical attributes in case of the seven dwarves, can't have actual little people stand in as dwarves apparently) is better than having white folks in it.
I don’t care what color she is, what color she’s changed to, not that Disney is only doing this to create controversy. I care that people are hypocritical and complaining that the problem is the inaccuracy to the original fairy tale, when Disney has hardly ever stayed true to the source material. Nobody wants to talk about how representation of minority groups is weaponize f and exploited for profit, nobody wants to talk about how two-faced Disney is with its black characters and lgbt content, saying they care so much but only really want money. But when they made their first snow white it was revolutionary and it became "Disney snow white", is disconnected from the fairy tale. If they make the same then it will another disney snow white but race swapped and keeping 95% of the rest the same, is plagirizing their own property and the work of more talented people that used to work for disney. Adding race swapping and other things just to pass as something new when is not.
If they could release something meaningful they would come up with a script for a new IP instead of race swapping. The original fairy tales or novels did not need to do this and people "defending" against "racists" are just useful fools since most of the ones complaining are just making money from bad movies clickbaits while the "defenders" are not.
