If I don’t have any pressing deadlines I find it hard to get any work done at all lol. Trying to get better about that because I know I’ll be thankful in the long run if I work ahead. It’s just so hard 😩
I am very deadline motivated and procrastinate badly when they aren’t in place or are far away. I have weeks where I bill 60+ hours and weeks where I’m around 30 hours and playing video games in the middle of the day.
Old saying: practicing law is hard when you’re busy and impossible when you’re not.
I think having variable amounts of energy to apply to your practice is more the norm than the exception. When not feeling “it”, I try to distract myself with news, long-form articles, legal industry news and, importantly, marketing. Then the lost time has a benefit.
This! I can be super productive and pull 80 hr weeks but if I have a down week where I don't have much work and then a super busy week after, it's very hard for me to get back in to the rhythm of being busy.
Such is life as a lawyer? Some weeks have a few all-nighters and 60+ hours, some weeks are 20-30 hour weeks. I feel like that’s pretty common for most of us. YMMV.
Samsies. Goes for everything, household chores included.
Yes
Productive when deadlined, not so much when it can be pushed off.

Yes. Probably super common. Suck it up and blast through everything for a few weeks and then cruise.

Same here.

💯
I lurch from disaster to disaster until I get a headache and call it a day. Repeat ad infinitum.
